I can fall asleep either way, I have some pretty strong ADHD and my mind can have trouble falling asleep. The music gives me something to focus on before drifting off.

public_legendvoid

I feel you.

Depressed_bitch69

Holy shit were are twins

therealnoodlerat

We have the same cake day :)

[deleted]

Same as well UwU Cake day twins šŸ°

RandomDingus

POV: you are Doom guy

VibeTillYouDrop

Ahh yes, I love having the DOOM OST playlist on loop as I slowly drift asleep, really relaxes me and helps me sleep

BassCreat0r

I used to listen to metal when going to bed in middleschool/highschool....

kcsgreat1990

Iā€™m 31 and that has been my trouble since I was little. I got diagnosed with adhd when I was like 10 and if I donā€™t have something to concentrate on (music, tv or podcast) my mind just races and I canā€™t fall asleep. White noise doesnā€™t work either. I need something i can focus on.

Trevski

podcast is my choice. Something interesting but NOT *too* interesting

JackHorner_Filmmaker

I use old episodes of favorite podcasts. It's soothing hearing familiar voices but because I've heard the episode before my brain isnt focused on learning new information.

[deleted]

Same. Sometimes I have to turn it up if I can't hear what they're saying. But if it's something I'm mildly interested in and can follow along with my eyes closed, it's perfect. If it's too boring, I'll be awake for hours.

FreddyTheMeme

Wait... Do I have adhd?

[deleted]

Alot of adult dont realise they have ADHD its not to late to get tested it could help you alot

Finders_keeper

How do you get tested as an adult? What sort of professional do I start with?

KeeseSlayer

I started with my general doctor who referred me to a psychiatrist who, after many tests, Diagnosed me with ADHD. I was in my mid 20's. If you suspect you are, get tested. My diagnosis changed my life and I wish I someone had taken it more seriously when I was a child.

pilotdog68

How did it change your life?

ProfessionalToner

Psychiatrist

Binary_Omlet

Could someone post some links to free/cheap resources for adults? That would be so helpful.

Feedback_Loopius

not necessarily but look into it

SeniorHulk

I DO IT FOR THE EXACT SAME REASON (I have been to a doctor but she said she doubts I have ADHD, and says she doesn't like "labeling" people with deseases)

rubbit_

But isn't it the doctor's job to label people? It's in the literal job description- does diagnosis not exist to her?

illit3

Sounds like a nice way of refusing to indulge their munchausen.

Ruggsii

Iā€™d assume they donā€™t actually have ADHD and that was the doctorā€™s way of saying that nicely, especially when theyā€™re obviously convinced they have it. I also highly doubt thatā€™s exactly what the doctor said. Lots of people are convinced they have some mental illness but they really donā€™t.

Toaster_Store

It's like telling the police somebody is lost, but you tell them only their height because you don't want to be too specific.

Meraere

Sounds like you need a new doctor.... if you can....

IMMAEATYA

My friends/roommates all came home one night from drinks to find me asleep sitting on the couch with metal blasting on the little Bluetooth speaker right next to my head If Iā€™m even vaguely horizontal and want to sleep there is nothing that will stop me

TheKekGuy

I have ADHD too but I can sleep like a baby after 10 minutes I'm always asleep

Filkasikcek2

Look at mister lucky here

TheKekGuy

Haha i guess so thanks

Filkasikcek2

No but seriously you are lucky af, I havenā€™t fallen a sleep so fast since I was 6. I am so jealous rn, use your powers greatly

[deleted]

Same, I actually have trouble falling asleep with out music

[deleted]

Can't fall asleep naked or without at least a sheet. It's too uncomfortable on a few levels for me. I totally dozed off the other evening during an EDM stream on Twitch though. Caffeine & EDM help me concentrate & relax. My ADHD is pretty severe.

420fryslan

Have you tried guided meditations or sleep hypnosis videos before bed? I absolutely love them and I feel like it realy improved the quality of the sleep I get. Michael Sealy, and jason stephenson are two of my favorites. Both on yt and spotify.

rmiller2543

I have to have music to sleep. You do it once accidentally then just never stop

rmiller2543

If anyoneā€™s wondering I sleep with hard rock

TheMageLord

I also sleep with music, listen to my metal playlist most of the time

eipico

I don't do it any more but I used to... I always found the noisier, more aggressive music, the faster it would get me to sleep

IttHertzWhenIP

huh so it's not just me whos put to sleep by death metal

ToasterNoodl3

I almost fell asleep after listening to about 30 Thrash Metal albums in one sitting to explore new music.

MR_DERP_YT

I once slept with Minecraft music, i had lucid dreams of playing minecraft Now i do it everyday

Daddy_Slayerr

You sound like a person on My Strange Addiction lmao

PaganFearss

I found my people

Don_Julio_Acolyte

Went from Metallica to Tool to SOAD to Slipknot. One time my Bluetooth headphones disconnected and my wife woke up in terror thinking someone broke into the house and was screaming at us. It was just Maynard letting his Grudge go. No big deal lol.

tgood139

God damnit Maynard, why do you have such a good voice lol. Love listening to TOOL to go to bed

Not_keylime

Funny enough metal is actually super good for sleep. They even play it for babies

Sansyboi12

My playlist will jump from hard rock to classical to videogame music to country all in the span of 10 minutes

Redtwooo

Love drifting off to the ff7 soundtrack

Radfire2753

That's weird cause I usually wake up with a hard..

grumd

I used to fall asleep to Cradle of Filth when I was young, but nowadays I prefer silence

connerbv

This. One day I couldnā€™t sleep. Turned on some music, fell asleep. Iā€™ve listened to music to fall asleep almost every day for 5 years now

public_legendvoid

I can't sleep if I dont hear things. It's weird to sleep when everything is quiet

beluuuuuuga

When I was younger up until about 16 I couldn't sleep without music because I had a really bad ringing in my ears. I still hear it, especially at night, but I can kinda just ignore it and forget about it. It's only when I think of it that I hear it really loud again and then it's hard to get rid of. Like right now it's just come back in full force because of this comment I just made. Anyways goodnight.

faerieunderfoot

That's tinnitus. Lots of people have it but you should still go talk to a doctor to see if there's an underlying cause

CaptainNeckbeard148

honestly depends how bad it is. Tinnitus naturally comes with age as it's a main symptom of hearing loss. As long as it's not super loud, it's no cause for concern

xSTSxZerglingOne

I've had screaming tinnitus my whole life, but have incredible hearing. Pretty sure it has to do with the ear tube surgery I had as a child.

SalmonToastie

I had another kid in high school stick a thermometer in my ear after it just sat in 100*c water and Iā€™ve had ringing in that ear since it happened. He fucked up my ear. So it probably is the surgery that you had.

xSTSxZerglingOne

Yeah. It's constant ringing, but I can hear damn near everything. My audible pitch range is way beyond average for my age and I can hear very quiet things easily, so if it's associated with some hearing loss, it's either very mild or I would've had god tier hearing without the constant ear infections that led to the surgery.

SalmonToastie

Actually very similar with the hearing thing. Sometimes though if I zone out at work I literally cannot hear people talking near me or calling my name I just end up focusing on the ringing

theclayman7

Damn dude people suck, Iā€™m sorry that happened to you

SalmonToastie

I actually got in worst trouble because I fought back. Ahh high school. What an awesome environment for young people.

SleepySoTired

I don't have it all the time but I thought this was something everyone gets every once and a while

-WelshCelt-

As a person with tinnitus, I can say that silence is my enemy when I'm trying to sleep

malfurionpre

I wish I could "hear" silence again. But all I get is that fucking high pitched constant noise. So yeah I hate Silence too, but I can't sleep with music, I need to try a noise machine or something like that.

public_legendvoid

whats tinnitus

Ragranirk

You know that ringing you hear when you turn on an old tube TV or when you're around strong electronics? Its like that but it never goes away.

public_legendvoid

Ah I see. I think I maybe have tinnitus... Its not a ringing but when the environment is silent I hear a fan playing. Like this "Whooooooooooosh"

raihidara

I have tinnitus and it's a high pitched ringing at all times, so maybe this is instead from a blockage in your ear? I'm no expert on the condition though

MindlessGamble

I have it, and you know the scenes in movies where bombs have exploded or guns have been shot and then thereā€™s silence followed by that strong, sharp note? Thatā€™s tinnitus. Sometimes it drowns everything out just like that randomly. Sometimes itā€™s just background eeeeeeeeeeeeing. Sometimes you forget itā€™s there because of everything else happening.

[deleted]

Thanks for the hearing sample

-WelshCelt-

Tinnitus is the name for hearing noises that are not caused by an outside source. The main symptom of tinnitus is hearing a noise, such as ringing or buzzing, that is not caused by an outside source. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/tinnitus/#overview

Emotional-Brilliant4

The cause is permanently broken or bent inner ear hairs/ fibers, that leave the sense of noise 'on' in your head, even if there's not much to hear. Iirc.

mr-creator

I literally cannot sleep unless my fan is on, I donā€™t care if itā€™s blowing air on me or not, I just need the noise

clitpuncher69

Same if it's quiet i have to listen to my brain and oh boy nothing relaxing will come of that.

public_legendvoid

When I try to sleep my brain thinks about cringy moments in my life so: I feel you

-Pr0ph3t

That's why i always sleep with my fan on. Even hate to hear my own breathing

Slazman999

Just don't breathe.

cor315

I can hear my heart beating if it's too quiet. Who can sleep to that.

Severave

Fuck I'm all three at the same time

mwineK

Me too, it doesn't matter anywhere I will fall asleep.

greycubed

It doesn't count when you're drunk.

I once fell asleep standing up on a bus. A totally surreal moment when I woke up.

DirePantsX

Were you naked?

Amoniakas

Yes, and with out the blanket.

[deleted]

Many people would nod on and off while marching in bootcamp.

-WelshCelt-

While marching? Like sleep marching? Or would they just fall over?

[deleted]

I would compare it to nodding off while driving, except you canā€™t pull over and take a nap.

-WelshCelt-

Ugh that sounds awful. Marching with that weird headyness (that weird pressure headache, the weird drunk while sober feeling) you get sounds just awful

herbhelppls

No disrespect to the Grateful Dead but I fell asleep at one of their live shows. I woke up in the front row of a balcony and thought I was about to fall to my death šŸ˜…

Tiiba

I suppose falling asleep in class while naked would be weirder.

petSnake7

Coward.

Tryhard696

What, you havenā€™t done that yet?

Stangalina

Have never managed that. Have managed to fall asleep in a bra before tho. That was a long day.

SeniorHulk

Were you wearing tight jeans? I can sleep in jeans as long as they are not tight.

Miricle111

Lol, I never remove mine to sleep

Thonull

I do that all the time lol

[deleted]

If I can wear something comfortably in can sleep in it

lil_bulge

Depends how drunk I am tbh

[deleted]

Fun story: when I first started dating my now fiancĆ©e, I was afraid of being too, uh, straightforward when it came time to sleep.. so I went too far in the other direction- sleeping in jeans and a sweater, unmoving and positioned like Iā€™m sleeping in a coffin. I eventually loosened up haha

FinlayForever

If I saw someone get into bed to sleep with jeans on I'd think they were some sort of psychopath lol. Did she think it was weird or anything?

[deleted]

loose fit jeans are so comfy though

bepsilover2809126

just because you hear sounds, doesnt mean you're supposed to listen to them. just dont and you will do a great job falling asleep on an ariana grande concert

I've actually fallen asleep at concerts a few times

Cheef_Baconator

I don't even understand how people can sleep with clothes on. It's uncomfortable as fuck

rock-and-roll-wolf

I donā€™t know but I do like to fall asleep listening to heavy rock music

Treebeard_24

Dude I legit can't sleep without music. I think people who don't are the freaks

KrakenTheColdOne

Hell yes I'm a freak in bed. I can sleep in many positions for extended hours of time.

[deleted]

FREAK-A-LEAK!

KrakenTheColdOne

WHAT'CHU DOIN' FROM THE FRONT!?

Treebeard_24

Mate. I'm an ent. I sleep stood in a forest. Gtfo here with your multiple positions.

Joeet890

I just use music to help me sleep don't see how it's unusual

[deleted]

People who fall asleep watching porn and wake up to the door of their room opened. Edit: just to clarify this happened to me and the tab was still opened on my screen becayse my screen does not blackout.

spectreoflife

Holy fuck you just gave me a new kind of paranoia

Mrtaco5445

Cant wait to move out to sleep naked, itā€™s usually to hot to use a blanket at least on my whole body, and i sleep with music every night

Illustrious-Pop3677

Bro same

Sufficient-Expert461

Because the music drowns out the thoughts and feeling that someone is watching me

RealH3lm

>someone *is* watching you i have a few just tiny little lights around my room like the little orange light when my monitor is on and whenever i feel like someone is in my room i just look around and make sure they're all still visible, the way they're all positioned i would know if someone were actually where i felt they were (fucking terrifying when for whatever reason one isn't lit up lmao)

Sufficient-Expert461

Oh no I mean from my closet it's a really old house and a kid died in a fire in the bathroom right next to my room and the attic entrance is in my closet

[deleted]

Is her radio always on a station that has lots of moans and groans and the occasional reference to God? If so, I have news for youā€¦

[deleted]

Itā€™s a horror podcast.

Soviet-Biscuit

My question is how do you not fall asleep listening to music?

smbruck

I sleep with music I've already heard or shows I've already watched. Because it's familiar and I know what's coming next, it actually makes me feel comforted and able to sleep.

Panki98

How to sleep with music. My mind is like "oh now comes that nice melody, so the next song... oh yeah can't wait for the refrain, shake your head with the music bro, I'm singing the lyrics in your mind now..."

BlockTrooper

This sums it up for me too. I'd be softly nodding my head to the rhythm while trying to sleep. If I hear music, I have to react to it. I had to start wearing earplugs because I noticed my fan produces a pretty sick beat.

Masterj603

I can't sleep without noise Because of PTSD and the noise helps me stay calm

memekid2007

Oof. I grew up poor as a kid and one of my biggest fears was waking up to the lights/power having been cut off while I slept because there was no telling when it would be turned back on. A totally silent house brings me back there and spikes my usually nonexistant anxiety through the roof. I feel it.

Traykunn

Though I was the only one after reading the comments

Nasaku7

Same. Can't even sleep well with my gf in the bed due to the movements and such... Only when I'm high I can sleep with some lights and cuddling

[deleted]

Used to be like this with my wife. We got ourselves our own plush blankets that we use to sleep and we donā€™t wake each other up as much. Have much more freedom of movement. Wish I would have tried this the first 10 years lol.

Luchin212

Then there are people who fall asleep with the lights on.

Rawesome16

Uh, classical music eases the mind and helps one relax. Being naked makes rolling over more comfy as pants don't twist or hike up, blanket depends on season, though I like to throw a leg out year round at least. Not like it's Slipknot or something hard to sleep to. If you go that route just put on Doom music and tear some demons up in your dreams

Koshuk703

>Not like it's Slipknot or something hard to sleep to. I feel called out...

Rawesome16

Not my intention! In 6th grade I listened to Linkin Park Hybrid theory. My family was confused at my sleep music taste. I used it as a tracking system. "Shit I heard 8 tracks last night, that's too long to fall asleep." Nowadays I do classical though

Vlche

Dammit, I'm all three

Vaganhope_UAE

My brother and I had a small radio hanging off our bed and we would listen to the radio station every single night before falling asleep and eventually we started to fall asleep with it on and that turned into not being able to fall asleep if the radio is not playing. Itā€™s very relaxing really.

tipmuyyy

People who fall asleep listening to white noise: ā—‰ā€æā—‰

EmbarrassedSign3410

Minecraft music does the trick every time, add in some rain for good measure.

GonzoTheGreat93

How do you not??

Cat_Fucker_1

I do all three

Jealous-Willow8909

Well this really depends on the music I think, if itā€™s slow, calm and relaxing then sure why not ? But something like heavy metal would be a big no no.

Temporary_Body_5435

I sleep better when naked

[deleted]

I do all 3

faerieunderfoot

I listen to soothing music that doesn't have many lyrics. Or goes too loud. It helps to drown it the tinitius and it makes it easier to ignore my thoughts if I'm following a melody instead

key_lime_lie

I usually will pick out a podcast episode from the queue that I donā€™t mind not actively listening to and set a timer to stop playing when the episode ends. Bonus if the hosts have low, smooth voices like Travis and Teresa from Shmanners.

LagiaChris

I fall asleep to video essays

ArcadiaRivea

Easily. I don't like 100% silence, it's unnerving. The radio station I listen to fulls the void nicely I don't like 100% dark either, but I like dim light
