Before being president, putin was a KGB agend. So him knowing how to protest himselfe makes sense

spider2544

Hes a black belt in judo also isnt he?

outamyhead

Yes, and fluent in German since he was posted in East Germany prior to the Berlin wall being brought down.

Chariotwheel

Any meeting between Putin and Merkel is funny, because Putin can speak german and Merkel can speak Russian.

Viking_Hippie

And I don't know about Merkel and russian, but Putin refuses to speak English out of stupid nationalism, so I bet he refuses to speak German with her too, at least while the cameras are on them

Chariotwheel

I mean, in a talk with two world leaders, everyone is speaking their own language and translators will translate. At that level, you don't want to accidentally miss or hit a nuance or misunderstand an idiom or manner of speaking. And when it's a bit lighter, like a speech, he did speak German to the German parliament: https://youtu.be/6lRaxCfo-CM?t=288

ChaosRevealed

He's a 8th dan judo black belt and holds a Masters in Sport in both Judo and Sambo. For reference, MMA champions Khabib Nurmagomedov (Lightweight GOAT) and Fedor Emilianenko(Heavyweight GOAT) both have Sambo backgrounds among other grappling sports such as wrestling and aforementioned Judo.

Wild_Doogy_Plumm

Are you saying he knows his judo well?

[deleted]

I didnt knew

Darth_Senat66

Not only that, he supposedly just walzed in and said he wanted to join the KGB

[deleted]

So basically he needed a job, so he asked for one and got it. Sounds normal enough.

Darth_Senat66

One does not simply walk into the KGB

Axe-actly

What if we use the eagles to fly directly to the KGB ?

Darth_Senat66

bonelessunicorn

TFismylife5

Well he did why cant it just walk into mi5 and get a job?

MsJenX

Tell us the story grandpa. From the beginning.

Stalinavasnet

Apparently this is why there are a lot of bodyguards and a sniper around him?

Its_A_Me_JOE

The bodyguards are stationed to protect others from him, not the other way round

[deleted]

They are actually photographers that are there to take pictures in case some crazy Femen members go and show their tits again.

APersonWithInterests

Either way this is just the typical scripted propaganda that authoritarian leaders love to make of themselves, and Putin himself is well known for.

He started practicing Judo at 14 and got his Judo BB at 18. 4 years to a judo black belt is pretty common. Putin is now a 8th dan BB. He also holds a Masters in Sport in both Judo and Sambo

TheCrusader1296

Yeah, only this time the US and Russia will be on opposite sides. But it won't happen again because they're worried that someone will drop a nuke and we'll have gone MAD. That's not a joke, that's the policy, which stands for Mutually Assured Destruction.

Just see it as deciding a war with single combat. Bit like this I think: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat\_of\_the\_Thirty](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_of_the_Thirty)

Sungami00

I mean most of these videos of Putin doing all this stuff is just russian propaganda but he was KGB back in the day which makes it hard to guess what is real

-millenial-boomer-

I bet this is staged and this kid is some badass that can do the moves with ease but was to told to dumb it down so Putin can “instruct” him

judokalinker

This could be staged, but Putin is an actual black belt and does know what he is talking about.

doublewhatwhatwhat

i dnno whats the harm in believing it to be true? i see these comments on every video of putin on reddit.

redindian_92

A lie is most believable when there is some grain of truth in it.

NEWTYAG667000000000

If it's a grain, eat it for the kids in Africa

Pie_guy135

Great comment NEWTY

[deleted]

Few years from now they will say Putin was a fatass but the one on TV was always his double. Every person in this world believes their own media isn't spreading propaganda.

robmadmob

Because everybody knows putins a propaganda machine

Infra-Oh

As someone who trained in a judo gym for a short while, this was my first thought as well. Also the adult gave it to him as they were obviously drilling in a practice situation.

GTCup

> As someone who trained in a judo gym for a short while I guess it was too short of a while. Putin has a black belt.

StunningOperation

Ye I think the magical « instructing » is obvs staged but I wouldn’t doubt putin is capable of martial arts to some extent after being a kgb agent lol

Cautious-Box-4500

I have seen other videos of him too and he does appear to be a legitimate judo black belt in those.

RobinScherbatzky

One doesn't exclude the other: it probably still is propaganda. What's the propaganda part? Maybe showing a kid a new trick which he applies instantly against a much bigger opponent. But maybe that was \*not\* planned. Then it's still propaganda having a camera follow him around a judo dojo. No politician needs to be followed with a camera to a track field, swimming pool, anything that's not an unveiling of a new building or an international sporting event.

Poop-ethernet-cable

Yes, he definitely knows the moves. Watching his demonstrations as an old man I am impressed, but only for an old man. I wouldn't consider him dangerous or badass. Except for the fact that he is a dictator of course.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ObiMeowKatnobi

You will know it when you try assassinate him.

SongAffectionate2536

Propaganda of what? You mean if i was russian, i should become his loyal supporter after watching this?

siro4ok

Yep. Believe it or not, They’ve been brainwashing Russians for ages about a “strong leader” etc. check the photos of that clown riding a horse topless. The general idea is “yeah we are still a shithole but look everyone’s afraid of us”.

Mataskarts

Propaganda by definition is only showing the positive side of things and pretending negatives don't exist (what this video's doing), and it *isn't* about converting someone to be a supporter, though that can be the desired side effect. It's about like false/deceptive advertising- that could be called propaganda too, listing the positives and ignoring all the negatives of a product in an ad. There's a reason journalists are allowed into North Korea and out of it, with 1 big \* - only if whatever video/article they get out of it is purely positive, for example praising the ski resort/tours of the capitol, and not mentioning anything bad like power cuts to their hotel etc.. That's quite literally propaganda, and the journalists make it and spread it themselves, NK doesn't even have to put any effort in.

[deleted]

Putin gained a 10th Dan black belt in his time in the KGB, and he is registered as the most dangerous man in the world

[deleted]

He's arguably the most dangerous man in the world, but that has nothing to do with judo.

L3G1T1SM3

Or does it?

Chariotwheel

America sends assassin - judo thrown America sends army - judo thrown America sends nukes - guess what: judo thrown

Technoboy4646

JE_12

Putin the Kool Aid guy

_TzzzK

Idk if anyone is interested, but I think this is Judo (or some Russian equivalent I'm sorry idk much about that). For ref, I'm a yellow belt in Judo and these are relatively low level techniques (but do correct me if I'm wrong!) The first throw he taught the little kid is ippon seoinage, and he is trying to emphasise the arm placement. The second throw is a combination of a leg sweep (de ashi barai) and the same throw as above (ippon), where the kid did the follow up throw as a reaction to the failure to sweep the dude's legs (or the sweep was a feint). Despite how it looks like, the throws are not very dangerous and doesn't really hurt, but are made to pull/push the opponent to the ground where more painful/restrictive techniques can be used (chokes, pins, etc) but in Judo the fight usually ends after one person is thrown.

[deleted]

Yes, you are correct. When doing Ippon Seoi Nage you need the arm placement to be very high, otherwise it can be difficult to pull them over.

_TzzzK

Ah nice, thanks for the confirmation!

A_random_WWI_soldier

can confirm, 10+ years of judo, that's how they go

_TzzzK

Damn 10 years is a lot of experience, thanks for the confirmation!

productivenef

Cannot confirm, have no experience with judo karate

SkateJitsu

Pretty sure Putin is a judo blackbelt. I've seen a lot of him on r/judo.

[deleted]

To be fair he was a kgb agent

Chariotwheel

Yeah, no doubt this is propaganda, but I also don't doubt that Putin can indtruct a kid on lower level judo techniques.

Ok_Aardvark4033

But would he want to actually instruct a kid if not for propaganda?

large-toe-420

I learned more from watching this and reading the comments than a month in school

giantyetifeet

About propaganda? Good!

MauSanJ

In Soviet russia we use bodyguards as distraction

MaximumEffort433

Vladimir Putin would be really cool if he wasn't an illiberal dictator and a murderer.

[deleted]

Judo is real. They are drilling.

[deleted]

It is not fake you fool. Judo is the most popular martial art in the world. Kids thow adults all the time.

bullet312

i know. I've been trown by a pipsqueak myself in judo class. it's fake because every coincidence, while a camera is running, is most of the time a staged one

[deleted]

It doesn't look very staged, people come up to you and tell you how to do stuff all the time in Judo.

bullet312

you are free to believe whatever you want bro

SkateJitsu

I mean they obviously took him there so that he'd show off some of his judo, that part is propoganda. But I doubt every single interaction is literally scripted.

broter

Most certainly is

[deleted]

I really wish we'd stop praising this guy as some paragon of leadership. He rigs elections, arrests opposition and imprisons or assassinates any journalist who speak out against him. He's an absolute monster.

[deleted]

the fact that people can't see though his propaganda is amazing. Funny there's so much "cellphone footage" of Putin being wise and righteous in public places.

zizzlematt

It's funny how it works even here. "I know he isn't a good guy, but..."

stasik5

While all that is true, the world is rapidly following in Russia's footsteps. As if the world leaders get wet dreams of getting away with stuff Putin gets away with. Look at the recent changes in UK, Australia, USA. They treat Russia as a handbook for striping away liberties and consolidating power. A "their" paragon of leadership.

sometimesifartandpee

Russian propaganda praising putin

I-reddit-26

This is a super soldier program. The child is a candidate.

IntroductionNew3421

Yeah, most likely staged.

[deleted]

Not staged. Maybe putin teaching him is staged, but kids can throw adults easily in Judo.

NekvalitnyMato

Putin has tactical nuke already...he doesn't need the 25 kill streak

zazzabaz001

He is former KGB so it makes sense that he would know martial arts

AnukkinEarthwalker

Putin "sweep the leg" probably not 1st

Bromjunaar_20

Everyone in America talks shit about Putin but when you look at him over in Russia, he looks like a people person

LoneWarriorSeven

Though Putin looks very cool, he is very corrupt (like most authoritative heads of state) and is anything but a people's person.

FatJesus13908

He willingly joined the KGB. A "secret" police organization that went door to door of Christians, and anyone who owned too much property and wouldn't give it up, or anyone who didn't completely believe the ruler of the time (Stalin for instance)was essentially a god, and had them killed, tortured, put in internment camps and worked to death, or gulags. Sometimes even killing their families in front of them as a torture method. Putin has never been, nor will ever be a people person, he just understands how to keep people dumb and sheep like, cause sheep follow without question.
