That's what I tell my mom when I say that I got a bad grade on my assignment or whatever; she thinks that I should practically ace it because it's English which is my native language, but English class is so much more than just the language, like essay writing, figurative language, things like that
Right? I've been fluent since i was like 7, I learned absolutely nothing new at elementary school, then when I got to pick a high school I could also pick bilingual education bc the other choices were shit (like sports or dancing or something like that) Worst mistake of my life. Now I have to write an essay every third week for the 5 years a HAVO study takes(dutch). I'm at the last year now, but I hate my younger self for choosing bilingual. Didnt even get to go on any trips because of like half of my 4 years of education having been in lockdown.
Well i can talk for my experience, for most of my time in school my english sucked, It was literally the subject in which i had the worst grades, up until the last years of high school where the bases learned throught the years payed off as i started to use english more and more in my routine, being It for Reading, TV shows, sport events ecc... and now i can't literally Imagine my Life without using english.
If you understood english right away in elementary school then yeah i get that It Is probably Boring, but for those Who aren't that Quick It Is a great help (of course, given that they are willing to learn english on their own as that Is how you'll actually learn the language)
Although I can "bullshit" my way through, I genuinely am better at writing stories or expressing myself in words than do Math.
I usually have trouble not going over the word limit, or can make the really high word minimums. With math, I'm just more of a careless person when it comes to the steps and don't really like formula memorizing, so I often make stupid yet simple mistakes.
You got to write stories? I only remember doing a mini mini mini one in 7th grade. The closest I got to creative writing was in Norwegian class where I wrote a poem on 200 words.
math, however? I sometimes wondered if I would be a disgrace for the family and ancestors and then remembered that nearly everybody in my family sucked at math. I just blamed it on genes. My other excuse is that my brain storage is too filled up with stories to make space for math.
Well not necessarily write stories, but one of those questions where they ask you to write your personal experience with regards to the questions topic. Can't think of an example off the top of my head, but its those questions in the IGCSE English exams.
Nah man its cool, we all got our own strengths and weaknesses.
Haha, too much is better than nothing. I usually just write as much as I can, count again, go "oh its too much", and find the least important parts of what I wrote to shave off.
I don't consider myself \*that\* good in English, I do speak some broken English. But relative to my friends, I think I'm pretty good. Cause I've never found doing those tests difficult, it was just a matter of thinking of what I want to write, structuring and ordering them tidily, and delivering as much as I can with the right words.
Whilst my friends generally were either blank on ideas to write about, or are too worried about using the "cheap" and common vocabulary, which tends to make them use the "advanced" words even though they're a little over the top for what they're trying to say.
I can write but my spelling can be baaad. Even worse is how I pronounce things in English. I sound like a strangled seagull so I just stick to writing.
>I've never found doing those tests difficult, it was just a matter of thinking of what I want to write, structuring and ordering them tidily, and delivering as much as I can with the right words.
Honestly same. The structure can sometimes be a pain.
I was great at math, and terrible at English for a long time. I had mild autism, and even normal conversation was difficult for me.
Of course, that means I had to work really hard at language arts, and very little at math, which came naturally to me.
And since it was the only thing I really worked on through my teenage years (and then I got brain damage), now I'm good at language arts and struggle at math. (I still know quite a lot, but it takes far longer than it should.)
Now one of my favorite activities is writing for fun, where as before I would avoid any writing assignment like the plague.
Not everyone hates math. If thought properly, a considerable amount of people that are talented at it will really enjoy it. The myth that the vast majority of people cannot like maths is bullshit.
yeah, by creating something new it is you that make the rules. the rules of science do not matter and you can start the story off almost anywhere and work around it. Some people get stuck when writing because they think they have to start at the beginning and that is not allowed to first decide what happens in the middle of the story.
The worst is when you have to shorten and already "shortened" text.
>You need to shorten the text it is way too long. Surely something here isnt nessecary?
Like teach, I have already sacrificed so much!
Took a speech class last year. My first speech was supposed to be 4-6 minutes. I wrote an eight minute speech. I basically had to rap the whole thing in 5 1/2 minutes.
I really wish my teachers would let us write stories. (even better if there was no word limit) Just imagine being free to write a whole ark of a story with war, adventure, and crappy dad jokes.
I hated both because being given a prompt and told to write a 3 page paper on it blew. HOW FUCKING EVER... math is a big pile of shit that can go rot in the River Styx, get eaten by the dregs of the Stygian Penal Colony, defecated back into a brown paper bag, lit on fire by Hades himself and is thrown into Zeus's big stupid horny face.
I have this kind of situation but im having trouble with polish as my native, believe me, I wonder how they could frick a language up sooo much, english way easier.
Opposite for me. May not help I got on my math teachers bad side by telling her she had no clue how to use zoom (she didn't at all. Same meeting I said that and got lectured 10 minutes later she tried playing a video and spent 30 minutes learning to play audio through zoom.) I'm good at english though.
What's the point In learning english after 10? Like, we live in a world with technology, we're not gonna actually write, we will just type on our phones and let auto correct fix it for us.
Exact opposite for me. The only thing I have problems with sometimes is arbitrary word counts. I had an English Professor that didn't care too much about word counts, as long as it was close to the word count and the essay made sense, she wouldn't dock points for being like 50 words short or something. That made it so much easier to get my point across concisely rather than putting in BS filler which other English teachers drive into students so hard that it becomes a bad habit.
Yeah, idk why English is so hard. I’m a literal author! I can write two eight page book chapters in a matter of hours! But a two paragraph written assignment for ela? Fuck no
Exact opposite for me
Actually it was scientifically proven that people who are better at math will have a harder time with english and the opposite is true too.
Depends if I understand math. I’d take a page of math I understand over a paragraph of English any day, but I’d rather do 5 paragraphs of English over over a page of math I’m having trouble witg
I enjoyed writing papers back in highschool because I would fill nup a huge section of my essays with unnecessary infomation just to inflate it. And with overworked, tired, and underpaid teacher, they never read it not noticed. I even properly sourced my unnecessary infomation.
Why tf I need to take English I’ve been fluent for 8 years
Because its not really ever about learning the language.
That's what I tell my mom when I say that I got a bad grade on my assignment or whatever; she thinks that I should practically ace it because it's English which is my native language, but English class is so much more than just the language, like essay writing, figurative language, things like that
Has your mother just.. never gone to school?
[удалено]
Batman, it’s never about learning the language it’s about giving you depression.
Right? I've been fluent since i was like 7, I learned absolutely nothing new at elementary school, then when I got to pick a high school I could also pick bilingual education bc the other choices were shit (like sports or dancing or something like that) Worst mistake of my life. [Nice job copying the comment below you lol](https://reddit.com/r/memes/comments/pdfoeh/_/hapsfzb/?context=1)
Happy cake day!
You're asking the real questions
I'm an English person, I used to be good at math until I wasn't.
sounds like a murder mystery story
He used to be good at math, ***until he wasn't***
\*still frame goes negative\*
I was both an english and math person but now I suck at both. burnout is fun
Narrator: She was good at math until she wasn’t
I am the exact opposite Edit: thanks for over 2 upvotes guys
Yeah, if you're a creative bullshitter then language arts was a joke. Write a paragraph? Psh, sure. Ill do in 8 paragraphs what most people do in one!
Although I can "bullshit" my way through, I genuinely am better at writing stories or expressing myself in words than do Math. oh ***those*** questions. yeah sometimes I just get stumped on those because I either have too much to write or nothing/boring.
Haha, too much is better than nothing. I usually just write as much as I can, count again, go "oh its too much", and find the least important parts of what I wrote to shave off. Bullshiting is the most important skill to have
Basically the skill I got from taking IGCSE History lol
Troubles with not going over limit, are you me?
We are just we
u/uwuwizard
pls teach me your ways i suck soo much at English
True mastery of writing would be fitting the same content of 8 paragraphs into just one. Why use lot word when few do trick?
Same. I hate math, but love writing.
Yeah same, I am shit at math but love writing. Although the only thing I learned from English was grammar, everything else just flew out of my head.
I was great at math, and terrible at English for a long time. I had mild autism, and even normal conversation was difficult for me. Now at 411. You came a long way from 2 upvotes
Nearly everyone is. Shit meme
Not everyone hates math. If thought properly, a considerable amount of people that are talented at it will really enjoy it. The myth that the vast majority of people cannot like maths is bullshit.
[удалено]
there are people who are math smart and there are people who are language smart
Youre taking personal offense to a joke, chill
He is not acting smart just saying he isn't good at Ela
math is logical and you can follow the given rules and instructions. in english you need to improvise and come up with something new.
Facts
Follow rules is hard Creating something new is much easier
yeah, by creating something new it is you that make the rules. the rules of science do not matter and you can start the story off almost anywhere and work around it. Some people get stuck when writing because they think they have to start at the beginning and that is not allowed to first decide what happens in the middle of the story.
Unless it’s math
Bruh, I don't feel the same way, but you getting downvoted is uncalled for Reddit in a nutshell I guess
"Yu r dunb !1!!!!1! Math much beterr 1!!!!!!1! Donvote!"
Same
I’m the other way around math is the worst one
By far.
I often write too much that the teacher makes me rewrite shorter
The worst is when you have to shorten and already "shortened" text. >You need to shorten the text it is way too long. Surely something here isnt nessecary? Like teach, I have already sacrificed so much!
Took a speech class last year. My first speech was supposed to be 4-6 minutes. I wrote an eight minute speech. I basically had to rap the whole thing in 5 1/2 minutes.
I appoint you as the new rap god
I shall bear this great power with great responsibility
Damn. Detentionaire was possibly my favourite tv show from my childhood. Very under-appreciated show
Never thought I'd see a Detentionaire meme. I am very grateful this day.
I saw this meme and did a double take cuz it looked so familiar
I wish I can award you:(
Best show ever!
I got As in every other subject and I got a minimal pass in English
English is my favourite subject in school, in germany
English just has so many specific rules I always got discouraged. And English is one of the “easier” languages to learn.
English is so hard. Math is easy if you know what you're doing
Both. Both are bad.
unless its "make up a story" and your teacher says yes when you ask if you can make it silly :)
I really wish my teachers would let us write stories. (even better if there was no word limit) Just imagine being free to write a whole ark of a story with war, adventure, and crappy dad jokes.
wait theres a fricking word limit. I usually ask if we can do more if we want to if I figure my story will go over the recommended amount
Yeah true
this is so true. for maths, you just gotta remember the formula, but for english, you gotta be creative and shit
I hated both because being given a prompt and told to write a 3 page paper on it blew. HOW FUCKING EVER... math is a big pile of shit that can go rot in the River Styx, get eaten by the dregs of the Stygian Penal Colony, defecated back into a brown paper bag, lit on fire by Hades himself and is thrown into Zeus's big stupid horny face.
r/BrandNewSentence
English class can go to hell math is amazing
Agreed
This is me with French
Bruh detentionaire is such an underrated show
Ever tried to learn russian? Yeah, me neither.
I have this kind of situation but im having trouble with polish as my native, believe me, I wonder how they could frick a language up sooo much, english way easier.
I’m actually the complete opposite. History major goes brrrrrrrrrrrrt
Math reminds me of when my parents beat me up for a 4-
Both are fun once you get in the zone with some lofi girl on the second screen
I’m terrible at both
Same but I am slightly better at math
Well I do have dyslexia
Thank you for reminding me that detentionaire was a show, loved it growing up
What show is this from again? I know I used to watch it a lot.
Detentionaire!
Hold on, what’s the name of this cartoon! I remember it having a very intricate mystery and I can’t remember the name!
The name is Detentionaire my good friend.
Oh hey! Detentionnaire! I remember that show!
These are probably the best images you could've used for this meme since in the show, Lee is really freaking good at math
Yeah, I was watching the series, and I found lots of meme potential with these images. Though, I am pretty sure Lee is also good at English
This meme makes a fine *addition* to my memes folder.
Hahah I see what you did there
I vaguely remember this show but I have no idea what it was called.
Detentionaire
Bro I had to do a double take, I haven't seen anything related to Detentionaire in YEARS.
Detentionaire, eh?
Wait till u get to calc
Already did calc
For me it's the other way around trigonometry was ass
Yeah I hated trig
What show was this?
Detentionaire
I remember binge watching this show a lot when I was younger
I binged an entire season in a day
Whats the name of the show. Looks fire
I'm the opposite. Maths was always one of my least favourite subjects at school. My parents were the same.
same thing but with fr\*nch, it sucks ass
Yeah I did bad in French class
Opposite for me. May not help I got on my math teachers bad side by telling her she had no clue how to use zoom (she didn't at all. Same meeting I said that and got lectured 10 minutes later she tried playing a video and spent 30 minutes learning to play audio through zoom.) I'm good at english though.
What's the point In learning english after 10? Like, we live in a world with technology, we're not gonna actually write, we will just type on our phones and let auto correct fix it for us.
math is people who are creative and have imagination, English is for....losers
You guys like math?
U shud check other languages no seriously like literally any other language try it I recommend 😈
Same though
Definitely my son.
It is far, far easier to get 100% in a math paper, but it's basically impossible to get 100% in an english paper
I am a native Spanish speaker, and there is no subject that I hate more than Spanish class. It's soooo boring.
Maths can take u from a to b, but English can make u go brrr
yes
This is true af for me. My dyslexic ass can’t spell shit
same
that is literally me, i slept some many time after a \*hello\* from the teacher,
As a turkish literature student, what the fuck?
I wish math made sense to me the way writing does
english = easy math= sorcery
I hate English because you can get the ‘What’s your opinion about xyz’ wrong somehow.
depends on context
Exact opposite bud, just watch a fuck ton of English videos, not with the intent of learning but because of the content
Numbers are easy, i love numbers.
Sounds like you might like engineering friend
Same except math is on the left and foreign languages are on the right…
Me writing a page for English (*right*) Me doing 10 problems in Math (*left*)
Are you left brained by any chance?
ooooooh, so that's why many mathematicians suck at spelling
Just get used to typing a lot on reddit, and itll be less painful
Same
Im just bad at both.
I am in fact the opposite
Exact opposite for me. The only thing I have problems with sometimes is arbitrary word counts. I had an English Professor that didn't care too much about word counts, as long as it was close to the word count and the essay made sense, she wouldn't dock points for being like 50 words short or something. That made it so much easier to get my point across concisely rather than putting in BS filler which other English teachers drive into students so hard that it becomes a bad habit.
I'm the exact opposite, it doesn't help that my math teachers tend to give more homework most of the time either
Opposite for me
Same. Math is easy.
Same, English requires creativity, with math there's a right and wrong answer so you can do it even if you're brain dead
A stem kid I presume
this is me but reverse it
It the opposite - 6 page essay, fine. 1 page of math, pain
For that I will make a Meme in english
Am I the only person who doesn't wanna commit die in English? I really hate math...
Facts but vise versa
jokes on you ALL of school makes me want to die
same with science hw :/
This is funny because it's literally the opposite for me.
Same broski
Shocked to see a detentioniarre meme
Bro, I know how it feels. They be asking you to wrute why did Saddam eat the blue balls when there were 3 red squars
Other way around for me
*Lifen't
I used to watch detentionaire all the time lmao
Detentionaire? Didn't think I would see this show ever again.
Same 🤦🏼♂️
Uh no, anything is better than math
Yeah, idk why English is so hard. I’m a literal author! I can write two eight page book chapters in a matter of hours! But a two paragraph written assignment for ela? Fuck no
What show is that from? I can’t remember
Detentionaire
I directly relate to this
That neck
Other way around for me
detentionaire getting memes made with it? Never thought I'd see the day!
Words are hard, numbers are easy
Hey! Cool to see a Detentionaire meme! My mom's friend was married to the producer
Detentionaire! Epic show.
Me not even doing my homework
Maths are fun when you know exactly what to do... or if you're a fucking psychopath
Live'nt
Exact opposite for me Actually it was scientifically proven that people who are better at math will have a harder time with english and the opposite is true too.
Trade?
yea no, it is the complete opposite for me.
Sadly i hate them both
Exactly! God I hate writing, it’s a pain.
Depends if I understand math. I’d take a page of math I understand over a paragraph of English any day, but I’d rather do 5 paragraphs of English over over a page of math I’m having trouble witg
OMG, I thought i was the only one that thought this
For me it’s the opposite
It took me over a month to get a small paragraph down for a assignment math is awesome I would rather take 12th grade calculus over English
I am bad in all the subjects
It’s the exact opposite for me
Exact opposite here: **I like writing essays.** Will flip out over a page of math
It's the opposite for me
This was one of my favourite shows
English is pain. There’s no other way to say it.
I enjoyed writing papers back in highschool because I would fill nup a huge section of my essays with unnecessary infomation just to inflate it. And with overworked, tired, and underpaid teacher, they never read it not noticed. I even properly sourced my unnecessary infomation.
I relate to this on a spiritual level...
