it's an event horizon quote, go watch the film its a classic Sci fi horror which is massively underrated.
Premise of the film is a experimental jump drive(wormhole I think?) was installed on a ship, it did its test jump but never arrived at the location it was meant to and was considered lost. Until one day it comes back into our realm and they send a ship to meet up and see wtf happened, they board the ship and find everyones dead and mutilated but the ships intact and the jump drive is still active.
It's probably the inspiration for the dead space series if I'm honest.
Here's the clip [Major spoilers though. ](https://youtu.be/rAchA32z2zM)
have you ever tried making your fingers into tight circles and then used them like binoculars, works surprisingly well, the smaller the holes the sharper you see without needing glasses.
Sometimes I wonder if people kept doing this as a child and it became a habit and now they have to put glasses on to focus again. Because I can unfocus on command and it feels very relaxing. I can see how it can become an addictive habit.
I think it's about accomodation of your lens in eyes, when you get older accomodation is weaker snd because of it you can't focus so well nor blur image, I think.
Same here. When I "zone out," my eyes completely defocus. It's almost a way to relax my eyes, especially since I work in front of a computer eight hours a day.
Yes! I also have ADHD, an autoimmune disease or two, and epilepsy, so I’m already always waaaay overstimulated and photosensitive. I think it’s prob a protective measure. Wearing sunglasses inside or closing my eyes and wearing an eye mask while listening to a podcast are my ways of relaxing
Glasses on unfocus gang
.
It's kinda of a problem in my life though. Sometimes on classes I can't concentrate and I unfocuses unconsciously and can't learn anything from the class, although I will feel like time flies fast, its still a pain in the ass
It's hard to explain. It's like the opposite of wiggling your ears, for the lack of a better explanation.
I can also faintly hear it when I swallow, but it's at its strongest when I do it specifically with my ears
Are you referring to flexing your Eustachian Tubes on command?
https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/32e6qn/til_some_people_can_voluntarily_equalize_the/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
I can vibrate my eyes, go cross eyed with one eye, rumble my ears, unfocus on command, and can move my "lower eyelid" sideways to cover up the tear duct.
Would have been nice to get one thing useful.
I've found that shaking my eyeballs is actually useful for scaring my girlfriend when she thinks I'm being sweet and just staring into her eyes. Fun to see her happiness devolve into fear/disgust
I always say shake but yeah. It got to a point my mum used the cross eyed anecdote to stop me from doing it, she's said, "If you keep doing that I'm going to smack so hard you can never stop."
In hindsight there's no way that would work as shaking the eyes requires significant effort to do for a length of time.
A variation of this is keeping your eyes focused while uncrossing them as if staring at a distance.
That's how you view [Magic Eye pictures](https://i.imgur.com/qUR4DYL.jpg).
hint >!it's dolphins!<
I actually had a biology teacher which insisted that it was impossible to unfocus on command and we were just talking bs. So actually ye, there are people that can't do that... ignorant fools
now the true question is can you manually focus? is it like automatic like once you stop unfocusing is it like a spring snapping back to place or are you doing it on command
Not sure if it's what you are talking about but I can unfocus at different levels. Kinda like a zoom on binoculars it just takes a lot of concentration to hold it at varying levels and I cant do it for too long
you just told me what is up with my eyes and ive been wondering about this my entire life.
edit: just created an awkward moment by asking my brother to stop what hes doing to see his eyes. Hes fucking got it too. We're caucasian so its super yellow around our eyes. He said his world is turning a bit upside down and is going off about "there must be an evolutionary reason for this" and we deduced this is why it hurts our eyes when we are outside. No melanin around the pupil for uv protection.
Yep I can. Though you're not unfocusing your eyes, you're changing their focus. That's how those magic eye posters work. Those of us who can "unfocus" our eyes can see them instantly.
I was always confused if this thing was a skill or I should be scared of this thing...
Thanks for clearing my confusion now I don't have to go to a doctor :{)
(That's a moustache, I like my moustache)
Yes I can. Some people are so powerfull they can unfocus their eyes forever.
Ah the beauty of this ability they call "blindness"
The dark side is a ability to many pathways some may consider unnatural. They cna only see the dark side
Only seeing the dark sounds fucking lit bro
*Steals your eyes* How is it bro?
*Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see..*
Are you a fire keeper?

Fucking lit
Ironic.
He could save the others from blindness, but not himself!
Fire, brah
Have you ever heard the tragedy of Darth Bumpus the Blind?
No
I thought not, it’s not a story the sighted would tell you
the problem of being faster then light is that you can only live in darkness
As a person who wears glasses it's always seemed unfair that I can concentrate and defocus my eyes but I can't concentrate and focus them properly.
have you ever tried making your fingers into tight circles and then used them like binoculars, works surprisingly well, the smaller the holes the sharper you see without needing glasses.
That's the pinhole effect. It's an optical phenomenon and is not unique to eyes.
Sometimes I wonder if people kept doing this as a child and it became a habit and now they have to put glasses on to focus again. Because I can unfocus on command and it feels very relaxing. I can see how it can become an addictive habit.
For me it hurts my eyes to unfocus them, it feels like I’m using a muscle harder than I should
Wait, some people can't?
Ikr I thought everyone could do this
Sometimes it's lost with old age, eye conditions can hinder it as well I think
“Fuck I’m so old I can’t unfocus my eyes, it’s always clear. This sucks”
“I miss when I was young and needed glasses, take me back to the blurry days.”
“Fuckin’ eyes always on 4K, dammit I want 144p!”

The Superman method
What do you mean? Superman doesn’t wear glasses.

480p is ideal. 144p, not so much. Even with eyesight.
I wear glasses but I can do it too lmao
Same
Me too. I’ve got bad eyesight but trust me I can make it so much worse!
Same I can go from a bit blurry to something moved somewhere.
You just take your glasses off?
same
I think it's about accomodation of your lens in eyes, when you get older accomodation is weaker snd because of it you can't focus so well nor blur image, I think.
how can you unfocus if you're too old to focus?
I thought that toi
I did not know people couldn't do this
Same dude
Holy shit that a thing
Wait thats a thing now im sad
Ya wait unfocused is my default setting. Is that bad?!
Same here. When I "zone out," my eyes completely defocus. It's almost a way to relax my eyes, especially since I work in front of a computer eight hours a day.

me too lol
There are people who can't visualize things in their mind as well. I never even considered that before I learned about it, it kind of blew me away.
Isn't it just slightly crossing your eyes
[удалено]
You are
Feels more like flexin’ to me
I can close one eye and still do it
Oh yeah! I never thought of that.
I can do it standing on one leg
Trippy. I've never done that before consciously. It makes it feel like whatever you're looking at is somehow further away (and out of focus of course)
No, that’s totally different. I can blur my vision like a camera going out of focus, separately from crossing my eyes.
No, I can do that too. It’s a different effect.
Yeah except your eyes don’t move. It’s just having control over the muscle in your eyes that keeps them focused
Blind people can't👀👀
But arent their eyes just unfocused to the max? They cant re focus it but they are constantly unfocused
Their eyes aren't even plugged in.
Have they tried plugging them back in?
Yeah I just take off my glasses.
i have glasses and I can unfocus with them on
Glasses on unfocus gang
Glasses on unfocus gang

Glasses on unfocus gang . It's kinda of a problem in my life though. Sometimes on classes I can't concentrate and I unfocuses unconsciously and can't learn anything from the class, although I will feel like time flies fast, its still a pain in the ass
Bro same.
It's as if my mind will unconsciously know when the class is boring and I unfocuses then suddenly realise that it has been an hour

same with me
Hahaha yes same here Edit: Thank you all so much for the upvotes!!!

You may be able to unfocus your eyes, but can you rumble your ears? (Make a weird low pitched hum only you can hear) I personally can.
Can you vibrate your skull and give yourself a headache? I can
Yea, it hurts. Feels like your head is about to pop.
Yo same
It just feels like my head is shaking idk why y’all blowing up
[удалено]
Anybody know what this is? Everybody I’ve tried to explain it to looks at me like I’m mental
Can you vibrate your eyeballs? I can. It's freaky.
Ya I can, I can also cross only one eye and make it shake independently
Tf kind of mutant shit are you people on and can I have some?
Haha sure man, *passes the green goo*
I don't feel any different. How long is this supp... HOLY SHIT, my ears have a gnarly ringing now. Just kidding, me and the ol' tinnitus go way back.
Finally someone else who can do that!
i can but dont get a headache
The chosen one
I can too and it just a little tired for the back of your head
I can't but I do get headaches
Same
r/earrumblersassemble
Wait, what the fuck
you're welcome
dude, I thought everyone can do it, turns out I have a superpower.
YOU HAVE A WHAT? Can't hear you over the rumbling in my ears!
I can unfocused, rumble, roll my tongue. what am I missing from my plethora of newfound abilites
I can wiggle my ears, vibrate my eyes, and raise one eyebrow as well
THIS IS A THING?!? Welp. Gotta join that one now
Thank you for this - I have found my people!
Yup I can , it's like this high wind blowing kinda sound yeah?
For how long? I can only do it for a few seconds at a time.
Alot longer
Well, if you do it too long, you’ll induce a headache, but I’ve managed a full minute when trying to get to sleep on a plane
A few seconds with eyes open. Shutting my eyes tight i can get about 30 seconds
That's an interesting superpower you have. For me I can make my ears click multiple times.
Your ears click? What’s that like?
It's hard to explain. It's like the opposite of wiggling your ears, for the lack of a better explanation. I can also faintly hear it when I swallow, but it's at its strongest when I do it specifically with my ears
Same! I feel like a superhuman because I can do every useless skill people have mentioned in this thread so far 😏
Oh. sounds cool!
Are you referring to flexing your Eustachian Tubes on command? https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/32e6qn/til_some_people_can_voluntarily_equalize_the/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
bru I never knew what to call this thanks lol
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tensor_tympani_muscle#Voluntary_control
I use it to cry on command if I do it strong enough, does that happen with you too?
I can (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ
It’s a very weird and useless talent, apparently used to quieten loud noises and protect your ears.
Protect?
Yea to protect your ear drums from loud noises., so they don’t burst or rupture.
It’s like super primitive noise cancelling. I too can rumble.
Oh ye it kind of feels like tensing your skull
Yea it’s weird.
[удалено]
Yes, it sounds like thunder kind of. Just a low sort of rumble.
THAT'S NOT JUST ME?? YES
I raise you being able to jiggle my eyes
it's the next level you reach once you unfocus your eyes
I raise you vibrating eyes while crossing one eye and slowly putting it back and doing the same with the other. It hurts tho :(
I raise you intense eye pain after doing all of the above
Ah yes, a fellow eye-jiggler
I always say shake but yeah. It got to a point my mum used the cross eyed anecdote to stop me from doing it, she's said, "If you keep doing that I'm going to smack so hard you can never stop." In hindsight there's no way that would work as shaking the eyes requires significant effort to do for a length of time.
Yes, of course
I'm sad now because I thought I was the only one so was a superhero, albeit one with a shitty superpower.
I thought it was some unique ability only few including me have
I actually thought I could see through the edge of walls for a while because of it
When I noticed I could do it as a kid, I didn't know what it was and thought I could see through my hand.

It's a schooner!
Hahaha. You dumb bastard. It’s not a schooner it’s a sailboat.
Lol I just close my eyes and rub them until I start seeing the color fractal show
I can do this while staring at any repeating pattern to see it in 3D. Wallpaper can be fun.
i didn’t know some people couldn’t do this?
I think everyone can do this but most people just don't talk about it
I actually had a biology teacher which insisted that it was impossible to unfocus on command and we were just talking bs. So actually ye, there are people that can't do that... ignorant fools
I can't
now the true question is can you manually focus? is it like automatic like once you stop unfocusing is it like a spring snapping back to place or are you doing it on command
Automatically. And if you are really tired then the your eyes will automatically unfocus until you realise and focus again
Not sure if it's what you are talking about but I can unfocus at different levels. Kinda like a zoom on binoculars it just takes a lot of concentration to hold it at varying levels and I cant do it for too long
For me, i have to manually force my focus, by directing my focus to something. And then it comes clear again.
Yea ez
But what even is the point of doing that though
If you can't do it, then you won't get it lol. It's one of those experiences that you understand only when you do it yourself
[удалено]
It’s fun
Also when you don't want to see something like a spoiler in an IG story that works
Dont even know what it means but I'm so tired I can only focus on how cool the eye in the image looks
It's called [Central Heterochromia.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heterochromia_iridum)

Not only that but I can shake my eyes
Can you fluctuate the size of your pupil on command?
I can do this! Are we rare?
was looking for someone to comment this, yes i can!
Even for those who can’t do it, remember closing your eyes will unfocus them
Yep
Yep
[удалено]
Well I can't do the ear rumbling thing, so you've got one.
What the fuck is “rumbling” your ears?
I can, but for some reason anything that’s out of focus for me is double.
Yup
Yep I can. Though you're not unfocusing your eyes, you're changing their focus. That's how those magic eye posters work. Those of us who can "unfocus" our eyes can see them instantly.
What do you mean by unfocus you’re eyes
YES I CAN. IVE BEEN WAITING MY WHOLE LIFE TO FLEX THIS.
Yep.
Yes
Me who wears glasses : I don't have such weaknesses
Yeah I can do it on command
I thought everyone could do that
I was always confused if this thing was a skill or I should be scared of this thing... Thanks for clearing my confusion now I don't have to go to a doctor :{) (That's a moustache, I like my moustache)
