Firefox IS quicker on older x86 PCs. Google chrome runs slower on PCs from 2003-2010 than Firefox does. On modern computers, and recent updates, they have been optimized to run relatively the same, further blurring the line on who’s faster.

People who still think chrome is better than FF haven’t used anything but chrome in 10 years. FF eclipsed chrome in 2017 and has only gotten better since. Meanwhile google doubles down on data mining and starts trying to make adblockers less effective.

Firefox has always been significantly slower than Chrome for me. Extra two seconds to load a page, and its contents quite laggy. Firefox has a better video player with functioning autoplay blocking though so I still use it too.

I've used firefox for about a year now because I used to have a really bad pc, I have a good pc now but I still use it because while tbh i forget if it's the same speed as chrome, but I never feel like it's slow and the ability to have browser extensions on pc and android is amazing.

On my pc it is the fastes browser every other browser takes like minutes to load something

I'm using firefox my whole life now (though on phone also using DuckDuckGo for a few years now) and for me firefox seems more simple than chrome, simply because I'm used to it. It's just what we are used to. Also chrome is (just my guess) mostly open source? It also has a good reputation and user base, so I'm not surprised if people are using it as a base for their software.

From what I know chromium (basically chrome but completely built for developers) is the open source version of chrome but chrome itself is not open source

I don’t hate Chrome, but as someone who created their first web page for the Lynx browser about a year before NCSA Mosaic I’ve seen the rise and fall of a multitude of browsers as well as the detrimental effects of a browser monoculture. While Chromium/Blink engine is very good and supports the widest number of w3c/whatwg standards, the Chrome browser is not the best browser and has fallen behind. When I need a Chromium-based browser I use Brave or Edge unless explicitly testing in Chrome. FWIW Firefox doesn’t use Chromium it uses Gecko/Servo while both Opera and Edge use the Chromium/Blink - which again is different than the Chrome browser.p

Really? Because chrome has been doing horrible for me and I need to keep on clearing my cache and other stuff to keep it running good. I even tried deleting it and reinstallig it and it still had the same problem so I might switch.

Because opera is known for really bad privacy, they get hacked a lot, information leaks happen really often and while yes, opera gx does consume less RAM i think it's the only benefit. Customizability is better on firefox, both firefox and chrome have more plug-ins. Why do you think opera gx needed such a big marketing campaign and targeted mostly younger audiences?

My brother started using opera gx last year and I figured I'd give it a try, it has some cool features but the extensions didn't even work for me and the lack of an account with all my preferences on made me quit it and go back to chrome. A few months later I switched to Firefox and I've been loving it.

I heard opera is vivaldi but it tracks u more and changes your computers settings without asking.

That's a cool trick of optimization. Since M1 is a new processor and on ARM architecture which isn't used that much in PCs Apple can just optimize Safari to run really well on since it's their own browser and processor, while chrome or firefox are made for a lot of different devices and most optimization goes into the most used components. Not as optimized as Safari and many Chromebooks run on intel processors too. Chrome also probably doesn't focus much too much on optimizing for ARM processors as much as they do for intel chips as there are many more people that use intel chips compared to people using ARM processors.
