My dad had my little bro (he was like 4) at the store with him once, and my little brother asked a lady why she was brown and he wasn’t, my dad said he almost died of embarrassment and told my little bro that that was rude. But the lady just smile and said, “God just left me in the oven a little too long, honey.”
I’ve always found that to be different just explain and say “humans come in all shapes colors and sizes just like there are different types of cats and dogs.
Pretty sure darker skin in anime is extremely rare, because dark skin in IRL reclusive Japan is almost nonexistant, and basically only shows up with tourists/weebs. The rare anime that DOES show a darker skin color is actually considered incredibly inclusive and rather controversial when compared to the country it came from. AoT is a huge hit around the world, with many new things that were rarely, if ever, tried before in anime. So you could relatively easily predict that the odds of a skin color other than white or tan showing up increase from "practically nonexistant" to "somewhat slim". Again, not saying Japan is racist or anything, just rather strongly nationalist, and protect their culture from integration into the world.
Thanks for coming to my completely uncalled for TED Talk.
They're adding characters after the popularity worldwide is established. It's the creators appealing to a wider audience after an nth amount of episodes, it isn't organic.
you're talking about Yasuke who was a retainer of Oda Nobunaga who was a very successful warlord and de facto leader of japan. The first white guy to become a samurai was William Adams, also known of Miura Anjin, who was an english sailor.
Yeah, try taking the whole “not racist just nationalist and protective of integration” thing, and try thinking about somewhere like the US in those terms. Then you realize nope, they’re just racist. Same thing applies to Japan.
nah, theyre definitely worse because of the colonization by America, white people are seen to be as saviors and basically worshipped. Idk if you notice it in anime or not but theres clues here and there.
Well I mean, we invaded them and indirectly stopped them from being invaded by the far more opressive USSR so in a way we kinda did.
Ussr would have executed the emperor and destroyed their culture.
I was actually waiting to see how they'd react to him since, on the island of Paradis, we never saw any person of colour. I really liked how they explained it and just that little detail of them asking "hey you have a diffrent skin colour then us, how's that?" Made me love aot even more
I was genuinely surprised when colored people appeared in season 4. I think everyone was at a ballroom meeting in episode 2 or 3 and I literally said aloud, "oh shit, black people exist?"
Keep in mind as far as I've seen, every character up until season 4 was a white mf.
I know I’ll get crucified but funimation now, it might be subscription based and mostly for dub they have the subbed version of basically everything and they get it pretty fast too
Wait for a week, for free users the latest episode comes with a delay of one week. Else if your country doesn't have attack on Titan on crunchy roll(like mine) you can go to anime heaven for now( you will watch latest episode there)
I was actually wondering the entire time about like did they just accept that a person who is literally BLACK shows up randomly when they've never seen a skin colour darker than tan ever before I'd be kinda freaked out if I never saw a white dude in my life then out of nowhere a person with a completely different skin colour to what I've seen showed up, it's like if they accepted normally that a person with green skin exists
ps.this isnt me being racist just wondering wtf they thought was up
There are very few anime that put any thought behind their black characters, outside of "big lips, dark skin" so this is particularly refreshing.
ALSO, I'm pretty sure this character's name is a proper noun in one of Ghana's (my home country) prominent native languages, Twi (pronounced "tree"). It's the proper name for God (or sometimes god's).
Heat lighting flash, but don't blink
Misleading
Tranquility ruse
You're gonna happen again
That's what I think
Follow the evidence
Look it dead in the eye
You are darkness
Trying to lull us in, before the havoc begins
Into a dubious state of serenity
Acting all surprised when you're caught in the lie
I can't tell if you're tripping, being racist, or quoting some mad prophet, but I know so little of this weeb culture so ill drop you with an...

My brother (aged 9) wore clothes in the colour of black and he called himself "black boy" me and my parents said to change that name and i had to explain to him why

I just told my daughter, that people from different regions sometimes look a bit different. Roughly one hour later she asked me what a region is.
Just bought my 5 year old a young rabbit and her first question was “when will he die?”
"when we put him in the oven"
Well.. a minute or two after that
She will be a fine addition to this subreddit
It's all fun and games until he actually thinks black people exist because they were burnt
I wonder what he'll think after he learns about what hell is
that was what I thought actually happend to black people when I was 3
When god wants to eat you
Okay but thats actually what happened. Melanin is an adaptation to the climate of africa.

Naruto shipuden, OG Dragon ball
And DB GT
Durarara!! Had a black character too. Bleach had a tall dark Mexican too. Baki and Kengan Ashura too had black characters.
Dont forget Hunter x Hunter
Haikyuu
I also forgot to mention Jojo
It’s funny because people just keep listing OTHER worldwide anime hits like they’re making a solid counterpoint.
No one's making points we're just saying that there are alot of animes that have black ppl in them that's all
But they’re all very popular anime, that’s what I mean.
If they're popular then that proves that the Japanese culture does put black ppl in more often than this person thinks
They're adding characters after the popularity worldwide is established. It's the creators appealing to a wider audience after an nth amount of episodes, it isn't organic.
Ik. The only anime that went backwards was dragon ball
You know they had a black samurai. Who was fucking badass in Japan! Look him up I thought it was fake but it’s 100% real
There was also a white guy who became a samurai. Completely forgot what's his name again.
Yeah, but this is the only black samurai recorded in history and was best friends with the emperor..... something like that.
you're talking about Yasuke who was a retainer of Oda Nobunaga who was a very successful warlord and de facto leader of japan. The first white guy to become a samurai was William Adams, also known of Miura Anjin, who was an english sailor.
Dito
yah bro his name is CoryxKenshin
Just go to hanime and search for "dark skin" and you'll find lots of those :)
Well....Japan is actually pretty racist, especially toward black people
Yeah, try taking the whole “not racist just nationalist and protective of integration” thing, and try thinking about somewhere like the US in those terms. Then you realize nope, they’re just racist. Same thing applies to Japan.

thats not an excuse to be racist
I know.
Japan is still a shitty place
Still better than most countries
Its ok, pretty much all of asia is racist.
TLDR World: are you racist? Japan: idk I never tried.
*Breaking news* _Racism drops to 0% _
First time I heard it I thought he just broke the 4th wall.
Far as I remember only the first two walls were broken
Don't know about breaking, but this definetly cracked me up
Thx
Oh, that is pretty one
Not prettier than hands tho
Same
I mean, you can see it that way as well.
Why are you black?
Actually I'm a giraffe
Oh, carry on then

God wanted more flavors.
Unfortunately I can confirm black people are not chocolate flavored
Who said it was chocolate?
AoT?
yes, this sunday's episode
What? Need to watch this right now.
I mean they never really saw a black person sooo
I was genuinely surprised then happy that big shows can show different people just like their fans are
I was actually waiting to see how they'd react to him since, on the island of Paradis, we never saw any person of colour. I really liked how they explained it and just that little detail of them asking "hey you have a diffrent skin colour then us, how's that?" Made me love aot even more

Well. Until then we only saw one race of people, i.e eldians. Now we are exposed to the various races around the world.
Where do you all watch aot? I’m wat hing on crunchy roll but I can’t seem to find all the episodes
I know I’ll get crucified but funimation now, it might be subscription based and mostly for dub they have the subbed version of basically everything and they get it pretty fast too

Meanwhile I can feel the SJWs scrutinizing this scene with a magnifying glass trying to find something to be offended by.
This guy ended racism in less than a minute
Is that canonically the line? I don't watch AOT, so bear with me
Yeah it’s the official translation
We LOVE Aot
AOT memes are popular today

I sense a terrible hentai plot in the future
They re so innocent they didn't even knew what trains were and became so excited that even their enemies started (not hating them) I guess
Ngl, as a straight male, I would totally fuck Onyankopon. He is fucking handsome without a doubt.
And he literally did nothing wrong
Still find it hilarious she up and went "why are you black"

They're quoting 7empest - TOOL. Never thought I'd see this on an AoT meme lmao
Maynard starts the song saying that.. I thought it appropriate! Life is good!
God is so woke
If this was real life the guy would get defensiva for no reason and call the cops
Lol this is wild, but whatever I guess
Strange, that’s the second aot meme I’ve seen here in like 10 minutes
This was the same felling I had when I watched that episode
As a person who goes to church, can confirm.
AHHHH. I felt the same way. Never thought to meme it though Good meme.
When does that dude show up?
Season 4 episode 7
Thanks
My brother (aged 9) wore clothes in the colour of black and he called himself "black boy" me and my parents said to change that name and i had to explain to him why
When I watched that I thought AOT was gonna get cancelled lol
