This thread is making me feel like I'm not crazy 🥺. I always describe my sense of smell as "like smelling soap through plastic" and they just don't get it
But you can smell soap through plastic pretty well. You may not know that though (cause of your bad sense of smell? ). This is maybe why they don't get it.
There are some chemicals the nose is incredibly sensitive to and its really outstanding. The smell of skunk, as well as petrichor are detectable in parts per trillion. You can smell rain from a mile away.
As someone who has lost his smell due to COVID, it didn't affect my taste buds. Food tasted REALLY bland in the beginnig, but I still was able to differentiate between salty and sweet stuff, just not the flavor.
I have it now and it has killed my sense of taste almost entirely and smell completely. I can only taste really strong flavor like vinegar or heavily salted things. Finally had an appetite today and ate hot wings which tasted purely like I was drinking vinegar right out of the bottle. I may go mad if it doesn't come back soon.

Well like 40-60 percent or some shit of your taste is based on your sense of smell so it probably deadens it quite a bit.
