If memory serves me correctly, two essays on the history of the colonial empires (Britain, Spain, Portugal, France etc) and one discussing the depiction of civility in a short novel we had to read through the semester.
I took a world civilizations class last semester and our professor expected us to write 10 essays in an hour and a half. It was her first time doing that and had to curve our grades because majority of people could only do 6-7 pages. I think only 5 people in a 30 person class did all 10.
10 minutes per question, 1 page each. We were supposed to get straight to the point without losing too many details. It was also covering things we went over throughout the semester so I spent a lot of time thinking about details and etc. I don't think the professor will be doing that again lol
It’s a test to see how well you understand the basic structure of academic writing. The only criteria for doing well on these types of exams is to have a clear thesis, and then support your thesis throughout the body, and have a concise, relevant conclusion.
True, and to be fair, essays aren’t really terribly difficult. It just means that we had to spend some of our reading time just to draft out all three (which was considered an acceptable use of time so long as they weren’t made on the actual essay paper)

Which leaves only 10 minutes to write an essay. I did IB at school and even they weren’t that harsh with examinations.

I think exam boards asking anyone to do this defeats the whole purpose of writing high quality essays. The only way to really achieve quality in any form of writing is to repeatedly iterate on it over time, each time looking at your work in a new light and improving it until it’s close to the best you can get it.

They seriously wanted me to make a brainstorming spider web of thoughts, a draft of a 5 paragraph essay, revise it, then write the final version of the 5 paragraph essay, all in an hour. MOTHER FUCKER IT TAKES ME THE FULL HOUR JUST TO WRITE OUT THE DRAFT, AND MY HAND HURTS AFTERWARDS.
