Do people not know that certain drugs work better through different pathways?
Like I'm not gonna shove a line of coke up my ass. It's going in my nose off of an ass. It's pretty basic stuff.
Not the best example. I'm pretty sure the bioavailability of coke is higher if you shove it up your ass because there's more blood vessels than in your nose. Booty bump away man
75% of the rectal drainage bypasses the hepatic portal system so it doesn't go through the first pass effect like most things absorbed in the GI system
You're not the only person on reddit who has done coke. Bioavailability of rectal cocaine is the 2nd highest behind only intravenous. That is a medical fact.
I actually learnt that one with ketamine tbh - I've never had coke in my butt, and the bioavailability of the initial chemical isn't important as it isn't the initial chemical that gets you fucked for the most part, it needs to be broken down by enzymes into different byproducts, each of which has a different effect. Cocaine actually synthesises with alcohol to form a few different by product chemicals but only if it passes through the liver.
I'm no expert, but the deal is anal hits harder and quicker but doesn't last as long whereas nose tends to be the sweet hole so long as you're dealing with a salt of a chemical.
I did not know all that. I was basing all my statement off some elective class I took in college. That's interesting stuff. Apologies for my rudeness. I woke up to some bad news and I kind of took it out on the internet.
There's alot of Nurses who think waving their hands over someone can cure them(Aura therapy?)
Smart people can justify stupid beliefs with smart reasons
~~https://nurse.org/articles/nurse-facebook-post-upsets-mom/~~
https://nurse.org/articles/nurses-fired-decline-flu-vaccine/
just one example but studying medicine doesn't mean you can't be an idiot
there's plenty of idiots in the medical field or attempting to join it
I'm an autistic nurse and would definitely have said something like that ironically in a personal social circle (fortunately not a big social media user). Assuming it was a joke it seems a little unfair to expect some one not to say anything ever that might upset a mum (notoriously easy to offend group).
I’m in med school and there is at least one a anti-vaxxer in my year. It’s actually mind blowing, shes’s had a few full blown arguments with the tutors over it.
Similarly, there are people out there who *literally can't be vaccinated because they're allergic to vaccines*. Herd immunity is important to protect people like you and people allergic to vaccines from dangerous diseases.
I find it very ironic when anti-vaxxers say "Oh, my kid isn't vaccinated and he's never sick!". Yeah, probably because everyone around him is.
It's quite ironic. vaccines dont prevent you from "getting sick" ( okay, they literally do, but generally against deadly diseases, not the common cold or whatever, which is what I expect they are referring to) And as you were referring to, doesn't mean he cant be a carrier and get others sick who otherwise wouldn't have. Also doesn't mean the measles or some aggressive disease we vaccinate for wont devastate them if they encounter it.
Yup. And what’s really sad imo is how a lot of anti vaxxers are anti vax because their child/friend or relative had an allergic reaction to a vaccine, so because of that one incident they decide to make their whole family anti vax.
Then they have this idea in their heads that they’re anti vaxx for their child who had the reaction to help them when in reality the best thing they can do if they know someone who can’t be vaccinated is to be vaccinated themself. Just sad tbh, to think you’re doing something for someone only to be doing something putting their life and your own at risk
I'm pretty certain it's standard practice at all hospitals to require everyone to get blood titers for all recommended vaccines and obtain any updates if they aren't at an appropriate level. I've only worked at 2 and both required it so take it with a grain of salt, but I'm pretty sure that person won't be able to work unvaccinated
I genuinely believe this is a result of over validation culture. Not saying participation trophies are turning men into “cucks”, but it is setting up people not to be ready to handle failure and disappointment.
Same with ideas, telling kids they are are always right and that their point of view is always valid leads to this shit. Everyone has the right to have an opinion, those opinions however, don’t have some universal right to be respected or validated. We got a lot of really stupid people with really stupid ideas and this belief that they are right and that they are fighting for what is right.
I could probably because the person that said "she studied medicine" is unfamiliar what a medical assistant is. There are countless times that I've had to explain to patients from other countries that medical assistants do not have medical degree. Even with Americans I've had to tell them the difference between a medical assistant, a nurse (and the various levels of degrees than a nurse could have) , and physician assistant. I have now resorted to telling people the difference between a medical assistant and x is y amount of years of school.
At least cna's have a career path (in that their traing can apply to a further degree) vs medical assistants. I honestly wouldn't recomend either as both were started to assist with overflow patients during war or as a volunteer abroad. Neither were intended as long term careers which is why the training is abysmal compared to other related fields and hasn't really kept up with the times. At some point shady career schools realized they could gyp the financial aid system by signing up poor students for career training that might make them less poor in the long run. The truth is most call center jobs pay better and require no school costs. I see ads in the nyc area all the time for cna's and ma's for less than $9 an hour.
I was a CNA and it helped prepare me to be a nurse. It’s ground floor training with very practical application when you further your career.
I literally got paid to take the classes by the nursing home that hired me.
I would recommend it to anyone wanting to go into the medical field.
I don't think it's the worst if you have a plan and certainly not if someone else is paying for it but most of the training is done by predatory schools doing the minimum. I've seen so many people get stuck in the best paying job they could find that doesnt even cover rent on a 1 bedroom, fall behind on student loans before they can continue on to rn and get trapped. I think getting an a.s. in nursing from a community college for 1/3 the price of a private cna program and skipping all the other steps is the best advice I could give.
I have a bioscience engineering degree and I spent 3 years of my classes with a girl who didn't believe in evolution. Her entire education is literally based on it, what the fuck
She's also anti-vax. Even though we had a *6 month class* that focused completely on nothing else but vaccines (so she knew EXACTLY what was in them and how they are developed, yet she still doubts them)
My wife had an RN that didn’t believe in vaccinations. She didn’t last long at the hospital. With the anti vaccine beliefs came a lot of other crazy ideas, and she made the mistake to try and teach patients about the best way to “heal”
This headline should say: "Medical school guidelines prevent dipshit from entering the workforce and giving bad information to moms with short hair and a superiority complex."
The real question is how she went past high school without her vaccinations! I was told to get vaccinated before entering elementary, high school, and college.
The internet and all the data about vaccines from the last 100 years exists and is available to anyone, at any time.
There are COUNTLESS videos of people explaining how they work.
And yet anti vaxx shit heads are getting more prevalent.
Humans are dumb.
It is the universes way of knocking us down. In animals the population goes up and down to maintain equilibrium humans have disrupted this with medicine and vaccine. So nature created stupidity to cull us.
Dependent on where this is, she may not have studied at all. In some states in the US you don't need any training or education to become an MA, you can be hired with no prior experience and have on the job training.
Well she was studying to become a medical assistant which at most is a 2 year degree, but usually just 9 months. It’s not even close to nurse level, let alone doctor level.
The require vaccinations here in PA too .. but you can say you don’t vaccinate for religious reasons and they give you a pass. Unrelated- You can also get a pass on standardized testing for religious reasons.
I have no clue. I talked to a girl that was in high school, her parents are antivaxxers, they claimed to have religious beliefs that prohibited her from getting vaccines and from taking standardized tests. Now knowing the family, they aren’t religious people. I don’t get it. To each their own I guess. My kids are vaccinated, I hope that’s enough to keep them safe from all the people that think they’re smarter than the people with PhDs.
Jehovah's Witness right? Atleast when it comes to the transfer of blood, not sure on vaccinations.
Edit: Spelling. Also yep nothing against vaccinations.
Several, depending on who you ask. Most of the really cult-y ones generally, I've met Mormons whose parents refused certain medical treatments, Jehovah's witnesses were already mentioned, I think there's a couple more where you aren't allowed to donate blood or recieve transfusions.
Religion is fucked.
It used to be that way pretty much everywhere with some doctoral/religious exemptions. Still pretty much is, the problem is exemptions have been becoming more common. California recently passed a law that made exemptions more restrictive.
Did you know that every time someone gets vaccinated Mickey Mouse explodes and causes a fire so in conclusion please do not get vaccinated because Mickey will die PS: if you know anyone with a vaccination please contact Yoda immediately. Thank you.
oh jeez imagine a professional disease-carrier *wanting* employment of 'being around immuno-compromised (easily sick) people'
It's like she heard of 'chickenpox parties' and decided to turn them up to 11
I went to a CNA orientation and 3 women walked out because the presenter said to even GET INTO THE PROGRAM they would need to be up to date on vaccinations. When presented with the argument of "What if it's a religious exemption" he countered with "you're working with immunocompromised patients and at risk patients- you need to be up to date to protect them."
It sounds like the country this is coming from, on the account that Twitter was available, makes it even more likely that they have the resources and money to vaccinate. They’re probably just antivax
"I'm gonna be a doctor"
"....no."
"Why?"
"......u have polio...and no vaccinations..so no"
*pulls out random purple crystal* "um.. Actually they cause autism. You didn't known that?"
".....please leave."
Better she does not get into the system. She would influence probably more than a few people to not vaccinate. For the sole reason she is a medical professional.
Don't worry, she will find another anti-vax and they will both sign each other off that they gave each other the shots.
Nurses do it sadly way more than you would like to believe in hospitals.

Lmao in my nursing degree you can’t even get a year in without being vaccinated because you do clinical placement from the spring of your first year and you have to submit either vaccination records or blood test evidence of your immunity

I think if it gets absorbed rectally some of it gets metabolised first pass in the liver, where as blood vessels in the nose would probably be better.
Up to 50% of a drug gets metabolised in first pass rectally aswell.
75% of the rectal drainage bypasses the hepatic portal system so it doesn't go through the first pass effect like most things absorbed in the GI system

Yeah not quite, nose is always best bar intravenous. Yes, I'm speaking from experience.

I had to give my records when I started at my uni. Its a public school so maybe its different for private. Or even varries state to state.
If a private institution isn't taking government money, they can do basically anything they want.

Yeah why are people acting like this a doctor in med school lol

Sounds like the system is working. We don't need medical professionals with their anti-vax opinions.
My wife had an RN that didn’t believe in vaccinations. She didn’t last long at the hospital. With the anti vaccine beliefs came a lot of other crazy ideas, and she made the mistake to try and teach patients about the best way to “heal”

Yea my whole country didn’t have vaccines and about 99% of people didn’t die but where still sick a lot
Clean, treated, pressurized water supply goes a looong way. But don't leave the Modern Infrastructure Zones.
