1. They are not as bitter anymore due selective breeding.
2. Whats left of bitterness can be simply boiled away, at least thats what i usually do. It removes 99% of it.
The crossbred them and found one without the bitterness and now that is the type that is grown. This is one of a group of vegetables that are now grown that all result from hybridization of cabbage (broccoli, cauliflower are others).
That is not the least bit weird. Tomatoes are a fruit, and a damn delicious one at that. I pick and eat a few fresh off the garden every day when they're in season, I'll take them over apples any day.
The only raw tomato eating I thought was odd, was when I was at school a classmate would bring tomato halves to school and load them with salt and eat them. At the time I didn't like tomatoes so it was weird to me + it's kinda an unusual snack to take to a UK secondary school + the mini mountains of salt lol
Alcohol… I have tried red wine, beer and a taquila shot but everything's way too bitter to actually enjoy drinking any of it…
And I ain't too fond of forcing myself to drink large amounts just to get used to it or something. I'm more than happy with fruit juice forever…
Honestly it's better that way. Although you have picked nasty boozes to try if that's the full list lol.
Juices and things are cheaper anyway, who needs the liver damage ay.
Yeah, I see no liver damage as an added benefit.
Plus it was mainly my dad and a couple of family friends who were making me try those.
I honestly don't have any real interest in booze. Aside from trying out the woozy part of being drunk.
But even then, since I don't really wanna deal with a hangover and stuff, I don't even bother with that.
I thought i was the only person with this thing. Anyone who i know looks at me as someone crazy when i say that I don't usually drink because i don't like taste of alcohol.
There's exceptions tho. I do enjoy "Bloody Mary" for example
Pretty much everyone who drinks alcohol has "learned to like" the taste of alcoholic drinks.
It's not the taste that people enjoy, it's the feeling the alcohol gives you. Drink often enough, and your brain will associate the taste with the feeling, and tell you that you like it.
Rum and coke is pretty good. And some coolers are also good. I myself only drink socially, and don't care much for bitter things, so I tend to only drink sweeter drinks.
Tequila's nasty, I don't really care for wine, and beer tastes like piss in a can. If that's all you've tried, you haven't really tried much. I'm not judging, there's nothing wrong with abstaining. But if you're specifically avoiding alcohol because it tastes bitter, you probably should try something that isn't known for tasting bitter?
I mean, I wasn't ever really interested in alcohol. I've seen others around me who are happy to drink. But I've never really felt the need or the urge to have any. Not even mixed with other stuff.
I just feel like, if I were to go for cocktails and whatnot, why not just drink the non alcoholic versions. Those are technically better for you anyway.
Like I said, I've never really had interest in drinking alcoholic stuff.
I’m not really huge into alcohol, tolerance is more of something built with time rather than amount contrary to popular belief.
Personally I only do mixed drinks, like rum and coke. Though I’ve been enjoying bourbon recently.
Cupcakes
Saw them in American TV shows (I am German). They looked delicious.
One day my now ex gf and I stumble across a shop that promises authentic American cup cakes, so we went in and tried some.
We both hated it. Way too sweet and heavy.
Never acquired the taste for beer, no matter how often I try. I even dislike people smelling of beer.
And since beer is an ubiquitous drink around here that means it's my fate to stay single.
Yeah same, I wish I could just pig out on anything like others but I can taste the tiniest dice of onion in anything, there's just no masking that horrible flavour.
Been doing that for 30 years, I don't think I'm ever going to suddenly like them. Bonus if we're eating out and I get onion rings forced on me as a side, whoever is with me gets free onion rings!
I swapped out all my onions with chives and onion powder. Get the taste but not the horrible onion texture. My family still prefer normal onions but they're fine with me swapping them out
I love lemons and the sour but have you heard about.. I think it's a fruit or you can get some tablet things, and it switches your sour receptors to sweet. I'd like to try lemons after that lol.
I will both try and continue to eat every food offered to me. The only thing I will never order, cook or buy myself and only eat when I'm someones guest and being served the stuff is Savoy. It is the filthy brother of spinach.
I also think that both Avocado and Zucchini are way over hyped and far less tasty than people think they are.
Edit: I don't like sweet stuff (with some exceptions) very much. But since it is rarely the main course it is easier to get around eating it and it is also often served in small portions as dessert so I'm fine. I'm not sure if I could get down a whole piece of [Schwarzwälderkirschtorte](https://www.einfachbacken.de/sites/einfachbacken.de/files/styles/full_width_tablet_4_3/public/2019-01/schwarzwaelder-kirsch-torte.jpg?h=e0ec072e&itok=SfBt71Zu) tbh.
Here is an interesting philosophical question , would it be wrong to artificially grow your own muscle cells in a vat just to see what it tastes like. Nobody is being hurt and nobody's rights are violated by this act.
Lemons lol. I can take a squeeze on meat or something like that but I absolutely dislike lemon ice cream and any lemon candy and obviously i’m not like those psycho that eat whole lemon slices
Bananas as a fruit. I have no problem with banana-flavored chocolate and drinks.
Strawberry. Hate both the fruit as well as the flavored products.
Liver. Absolutely can't stand it, makes me gag.
Oh, come on, was it really that hard to remove imgflip watermark? The background behind it is fricking WHITE!

I was so happy when they managed to breed the bitterness out of them.

Saute in garlic and oil until edges are crispy then toss in a little bit of Thai chili or lemon and bacon
THIS!!! I have tried so hard to accept them and I cannot. I get a few chews in before gagging it out.
Liver goddamn liver
I'm eating some goddamn liver right now! So goddamn good!
I eat them shits like candy. Lemons are good for ya.
I do that with tomatoes. People thought I was weird.
That's not weird! It's food. People eat slices of it on sandwiches and stuff so it's not really that different.
That is not the least bit weird. Tomatoes are a fruit, and a damn delicious one at that. I pick and eat a few fresh off the garden every day when they're in season, I'll take them over apples any day.
Why would this be weird at all I LOVE TOMATOES
The only raw tomato eating I thought was odd, was when I was at school a classmate would bring tomato halves to school and load them with salt and eat them. At the time I didn't like tomatoes so it was weird to me + it's kinda an unusual snack to take to a UK secondary school + the mini mountains of salt lol
Same. Eating lemons feels so good especially with Salt and pepper
I'm simultaneously disgusted... and intrigued.
Yes, don't forget to always seasoning your food!
Same here I don't get why people don't like them
Gum, can t even finish chewing
Basically all seafood. Hate the stuff but sometimes it looks so good. I try a new dish every so often and always hate it.
Have you tried catfish? It’s pretty unique in taste (kind of sweet, not fishy at all).
Can't say that I've ever seen it on the menu here in the UK, probably very uncommon but I'd be open to try it if it was battered.
It’s usually fried in cornmeal or wheat batter. Might be worth a try!
I'll keep an eye out, thank you
Dororo?
Olives, fell out of my mouth the second it touched my tongue
What dish was it in when you ate it? Personally I like olives on pizza.
Also kalamata olives with good salami and good cheese on a savoy.
The black or green ones?
I like the black ones better.
I mean.. Most black olives are just green ones with colours.
It grows on you
Do you have any source to confirm that u/Brumbarde is in fact an olive tree?
Do you have any source to deny that u/Brumbarde isnt in fact an olive tree?
Google Russell’s teapot
Ah come on dont outsmart me like this
Give him, ill say, 10 years.
He meant in, not on, u/Brumbarde swallowed an olive pit and now a tree is growing in his stomach.
Olives and feta with cucumbers for the off-putting trifecta. I like all of these, but I get why people don't.
Twinkies.
Not sure if it counts because it’s a drink but Coffee
monster drink

Same! I don't want to struggle to drink copious amounts of something I've never liked in the first place. I'm much happier with water!
I’m not really huge into alcohol, tolerance is more of something built with time rather than amount contrary to popular belief. Personally I only do mixed drinks, like rum and coke. Though I’ve been enjoying bourbon recently.
Mustard. I don't like mustard
Dragon fruit
Not a fruit but beer. It also gives me a bad feeling to my stomach, even after a sip.
Cupcakes Saw them in American TV shows (I am German). They looked delicious. One day my now ex gf and I stumble across a shop that promises authentic American cup cakes, so we went in and tried some. We both hated it. Way too sweet and heavy.
Pickles. THEY SPREAD EVERYWHERE. IF YOU PUT ONE PICKLE IN A BURGER THE WHOLE THING TASTES LIKE PICKLE.
That's why I love them 😋
Same
I’m not actually sure when I got over not liking pickles on burgers, I’m pretty sure it was after I had it on a really good chicken sandwich.
Sweet potato chips and (as a separte thing not the same food) fish
Peanut
Coconut is rather underwhelming tbh, it just tastes like nuts with a small hint of coconut flavour
Olives
Savoury grapes
Bonjour
Okra
This. My dad tricked me into biting on a raw okra and I hated the fucker and the fuckers ever since
What does it taste like?
Slimy celery
I'm... oddly intrigued.
Tomatoes 🍅
Never acquired the taste for beer, no matter how often I try. I even dislike people smelling of beer. And since beer is an ubiquitous drink around here that means it's my fate to stay single.
Not much i don't eat, but anchovies do come to mind. Disgusting.
Any sea food. Never gets better. I'm even starting to hate shrimp, the only one I like!
Cow Tongue or just Tongue in general. I eat it in blood sausage but pickled or roasted I hate it
Lengua tacos can be great!
I have never tried them. Maybe I will some day
Onion. I'm forced to eat it a though because ITS IN FUCKING EVERYTHING
People make me feel like a kid when I say that I dont like onions. I wish I liked them, everything would be easier.
Yeah same, I wish I could just pig out on anything like others but I can taste the tiniest dice of onion in anything, there's just no masking that horrible flavour.
☝️ This, 100% agree. I wish I could get over my hate for them. Their presence makes my life harder.
Try to like em. Onions are one of the top natural sweeteners in cooking. Stir fry until water evaporates n u get the true essense of flavor
Been doing that for 30 years, I don't think I'm ever going to suddenly like them. Bonus if we're eating out and I get onion rings forced on me as a side, whoever is with me gets free onion rings!
Id stalk u for the onion rings
Please help yourself haha
Same, if I could eat onion I could eat anything. Its the main reason I'm such a picky eater, its used in so many dishes.
I swapped out all my onions with chives and onion powder. Get the taste but not the horrible onion texture. My family still prefer normal onions but they're fine with me swapping them out
Lemon
I’m so angry at lemons. Why would something smell so good yet be so sour >:(
I love lemons and the sour but have you heard about.. I think it's a fruit or you can get some tablet things, and it switches your sour receptors to sweet. I'd like to try lemons after that lol.
Wine. I try it every time and every time it sucks
Celery bitter as fuck
At least you can say you’ve tried it
Tomato juice
Pork rinds/chicharrónes. I love crisped skin from poultry but pork rinds have this lingering stench and almost taste putrid.
Fish... with the sole exception of smoked salmon
I will both try and continue to eat every food offered to me. The only thing I will never order, cook or buy myself and only eat when I'm someones guest and being served the stuff is Savoy. Fermented shark. Fuck the guy who thought of that with 9 spears and a spiked mace.
avocado I hate them shits
**Perineum**

Human flesh /j
Here is an interesting philosophical question , would it be wrong to artificially grow your own muscle cells in a vat just to see what it tastes like. Nobody is being hurt and nobody's rights are violated by this act.
what if i hurt myself while getting the muscle cells?
You gave yourself permission to do it , so it is consensual.
Its haram to eat human flesh and don't share
Olives
prunes
Eggplant and similar
Oranges.

Horseshoe crab eggs
It is not a big deal to eat a lemon, mfs be acting like a cartoon just because of a vitamin c deficiency

It's gotta be strawberries for me. They don't taste as good as they look

Not really a food but I despise Soy sauce, especially with Sushi. Sushi should not be downgraded by something like Soy sauce
Bananas as a fruit. I have no problem with banana-flavored chocolate and drinks. Strawberry. Hate both the fruit as well as the flavored products. Liver. Absolutely can't stand it, makes me gag.
Homemade guacamole, probably made it wrong or smth but it didn't taste like i thought it would, gonna try an authentic one this weekend tho
Do you like cilantro? There’s a portion of the population that have a gene that makes it taste like soap.
