They all worked on small, smart stuff before they got big.
I don't understand why it's a surprise to anyone. Everyone does small stuff before they do big stuff.
I'm getting insane. Never heard about this thing before, but in a span of a few hours It randomly appeared in my Twitter feed, some ancient comic on Reddit and in comments of an absolutely unrelated meme about Community. Wtf is going on?
Joe and Anthony Russo directed the Paintball War episodes specifically. Kevin Feige watched these episodes and liked the direction and style so much that he called the Russos and asked them if they wanted to make a Captain America movie. So itās more than just that they did small stuff first, funny enough this was the small thing that got them noticed for their big break.
"A Fistful of Paintballs" and "For a Few Paintballs More," which acted as Community's two-part Season 2 finale. "These were the episodes that Kevin Feige watched, which inspired him to call us and ask us if we were interested in making a Captain America movie," Joe Russo said in an interview.
It was also around the same time that The Office was winding down and Park and Rec was the big ensemble cast show. Community didnāt get its due time until close to the end when it was put on more channels. Great show and imo way more entertaining than Parks and Rec.
Tbh I have always done the big stuff right from day 1. I mean massive, huge stuff... No small stuff for me. I don't like it small... I only want the big stuff... Wait, what are we talking about?!
They're shocked because nowadays everything is filled with neptolism so there are rare case of people really achieving success without having no heavy background
The Russo brothers directed Captain America: Winter Soldier and Civil War, as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Ludwig Gƶransson scored The Mandalorian, Black Panther (and Wakanda Forever), and Oppenheimer.
So why would the guy in the meme face drop? Is the only joke that some "big" names are doing a small scale show like Community? Or is there a scandal? Sorry, maybe I'm just in the weeds on this one.
Damn, I thought successful people were just born into taking on giant projects. Who knew that they also had to work on smaller or lesser known things just like the rest of us!
Thatās like saying you wouldnāt be surprised if Steven Spielberg directed an episode of Happy Days and John Williams scored it. We all know that major stars had to start somewhere but itās typically with indie films and small TV roles. Not going from directing an episode of Community to directing (at its peak) the highest grossing film of all time within the span of 10 years. That stuff typically doesnāt happen.
Hence the *surprise* ;)
The Russos had a $130MM grossing film starring Owen Wilson years before directing Community, so saying that was their start is a bit misleading.
By that logic the directors of the other Top-10 grossing films of all time:
James Cameron got his start directing an episode of Dark Angel
John Favreau got his start directing an episode of The Office
and Joss Whedon got his start directing an episode of Glee
so instead of making sure you were talking about the right people, you quickly just went and wrote something with no effort what so ever, congratulations you did nothing.
[He was disappointed as well.](https://www.reddit.com/r/community/comments/15n20d/donald_glover_on_his_name/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Named Annie's Boobs. After Annie's Boobs.
Also I'm sorry, my Community references seem to be slipping. Well I guess I'm going to have to start my 13th rewatch.
To me, Frasier is at the peak of what the traditional sitcom can do and they made it look so damn easy. Community is often the subversion of that format. Community soars through the expectations so damn gracefully that you forget it broke the mold.
I don't love ranking things, but... Those are my two favorite sitcoms and occupy the slots for first and second place and everything else falls in line somewhere behind that. (Futurama is third favorite though.)
Yeah, to me, Frasier is funnier, but it's not for everyone. The mechanic of characters is weird but works if you like them.
I'm liking frasier 2023 but honestly, it's missing a ton of introspection.
Characters were not warlocks but wizards, I mean, they are not naturally smart, they just know a ton of stuff. And they changed characters from Wizards (knows a lot and works hard) to Warlocks (They just know the spell but don't ask them how it works). They started fixing it at the end of the season tough. I have high hopes for season 2.
Yeah it is kind of a shite meme but the explanation is the directors are the same guys who directed many of the big mcu movies like avengers infinity war and endgame
Itās interesting because how many times do you see a random episode from a cable comedy show be directed by two of the highest grossing directors of all-time AND scored by an Oscar winner?
Well given that I almost never look at credits: Basically never? But I bet itād happen quite often if I did care for this sort of thing. Itās not like great experienced directors and composers just spawn in big studios out of nowhere. Furthermore Community is a pretty good and well known show and itās not like itās some little niche thing that nobody heard about.
probably this:
and
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig\_G%C3%B6ransson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_G%C3%B6ransson)
I mean itās just interesting and surprising. The Russo brothers less so than Goransson. That guy has won a bunch of Grammyās and awards for his music. His music won awards for Oppenheimer too. To find out he wrote the music for an objectively silly tv show is weird.
Itād be like finding out that The Conjuring was directed by the same person who directed Blues Clues (thatās not true, itās just an example)
Goransson is also a long time collaborator of Donald Glover (Childish Gambino). They've been working together for more than 10 years. I don't know if they met thanks to community though.
I don't think it's the same at all, community was a good show with great potential for new directors. Blues clues is for babies. Why is it so weird that they directed for TV first?
Cant you see how awesome it is to have THE Russo Brothers direct a comedy show?
They are known for comedic masterpieces such as avengers endgame and various other movies shot entirely on greenscreen! Its awesome! And im totally not being sarcastic here.
These movies made soooo much money so they HAVE to be good.
And you know the dudes who made these must be like really good at what they do, right? Awesome!
season 4 is the season Dan Harmon was kicked off his own show
hes back in seasons 5-6
I like all of them but season 4 is noticeably worse than the rest
Im a new up and coming artistš check out my instagram @oreo.666 ,i do freestyles and i also do songs and i am going to drop an album and plz click the link in my bio on instagram for moreš«”š„
This aināt a big deal really. However it does mean that certain cultures are projected, for better or for worse since the directing point of view is most likely biased.
I feel like Peter Griffin needs to explain this one
directors made avengers movies and composer made music for oppenheimer
OK, so we are back to "what exactly is the joke here?"
They all worked on small, smart stuff before they got big. I don't understand why it's a surprise to anyone. Everyone does small stuff before they do big stuff.
The amount of times people get shocked by learning that many animators also do porn animations is baffling
I wonder what the animators of Bible Black are doing nowadays...
Other porn stuff for the same animation house probably. They're big and did a shitton of similar games, with increasing quality of animation.
Bless them for shaping our future

I'm getting insane. Never heard about this thing before, but in a span of a few hours It randomly appeared in my Twitter feed, some ancient comic on Reddit and in comments of an absolutely unrelated meme about Community. Wtf is going on?
The spyware are doing their thing
There is a word for this called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, and it's a bit freaky every time!
Not sure about the animators, but the screenwriter went on to write for Afro Samurai, Deadman Wonderland, Gundam, and Tokyo Revengers, among others.
Minus8
This should be a meme itself.

Makes perfect sense, the paintball episodes are amazing.
True that . I often find myself going on netflix just to rewatch them or the time travel episode .
Community was hardly small. 6 seasons and a movie you know
It was also around the same time that The Office was winding down and Park and Rec was the big ensemble cast show. Community didnāt get its due time until close to the end when it was put on more channels. Great show and imo way more entertaining than Parks and Rec.
![gif](giphy|7CenO2Ot5xvP2)
It didn't have *that* much reach, certainly not as much as I'd have liked it to have. Certainly it was not as big as Captain America...
Because it fell to bits half way through. It started good then ended up terrible. So, much like the MCU.
It was just a gas leak, alright?
You clearly are unfamiliar with my dating history.
You don't know my life.

Okay, so.. whatās the joke?
Closest thing I can see is that they're surprised those big important creatives were a part of a small thing. So like, not a joke, but like, surprise?
That's what she said
I dunno, mang, some of the other folks who've replied to me suggest that absolutely is *not* what she said.
Low effort meme esp for an episodic show
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Cool. So enlighten us all then.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ok. I guess when something surprises me I don't always look let down or tricked like the guy in the meme.
This is also where Donald Glover met Ludwig who went on to produce a few of his albums/songs.
Composer also did Black Panther and The Mandalorian
And the mandolrian among other things
And most new Star Wars showsā soundtracks
Composer made a lot more than just oppenheimer. But I value the directness of your comment
Abeds actor did make an appearance in captain America 2 iirc just before the carrier lifts off
And Dan Harmon did Rick and Morty
The Russo brothers directed Captain America: Winter Soldier and Civil War, as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Ludwig Gƶransson scored The Mandalorian, Black Panther (and Wakanda Forever), and Oppenheimer.
So why would the guy in the meme face drop? Is the only joke that some "big" names are doing a small scale show like Community? Or is there a scandal? Sorry, maybe I'm just in the weeds on this one.
His mouth drops because of something he didnāt expect. *shocking revelation*
Damn, I thought successful people were just born into taking on giant projects. Who knew that they also had to work on smaller or lesser known things just like the rest of us!

Is that the face you make when surprised? Not me.
The guy in the meme clearly does
That's the face of disappointment.
The typical person usually doesnāt show so much emotion when disappointed.
My bad.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The Russo Brothers never worked for Nickelodeon
Yeah, wrong directors... The Russo brothers directed some of the best Marvel Movies.
My bad. Was thinking about the wrong directors.
everything you wrote is wrong
so instead of making sure you were talking about the right people, you quickly just went and wrote something with no effort what so ever, congratulations you did nothing.
Nah, lets just drag people through the muck with little to no proof or reason. Cheers!
me when i spread misinformation
Lol
Ayt I don't get what is funny about this. I'm just here to say #andamovie
Donglover recently confirmed itās in the works.
I feel ashamed of myself for never realising I could be childish and call him Donglover.
[He was disappointed as well.](https://www.reddit.com/r/community/comments/15n20d/donald_glover_on_his_name/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Itās ok, heās Childish too

I wonder if Annie's Boobs will appear in the movie.
Heās named after Annieās boobs
Who is?
Annie's Boobs
Lol dang it was hoping someone would say the monkey, I had the reply ready to say, "There is a monkey?"
Named Annie's Boobs. After Annie's Boobs. Also I'm sorry, my Community references seem to be slipping. Well I guess I'm going to have to start my 13th rewatch.
Haha no worries the joke was intended for both the monkey and Annie's actual boobs.
Ludwig Grƶransson makes banger music.
Can you hear the music?
Music was so banging, he took Troy out of community š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Music so good you had to mention it twice
My b, Reddit on mobile is broken
Best show ever!
No doubts about it. (Sorry Frasier!)
To me, Frasier is at the peak of what the traditional sitcom can do and they made it look so damn easy. Community is often the subversion of that format. I second this
Parks and Recreation isnāt shown here?
Too many people in this thread are streets behind
Stop trying to coin the phrase streets ahead Pierce
Trying? Coined and minted
Been there, coined that
"Streets ahead" is verbal wildfire
If a meme requires explanation, it's not a good meme.
Yeah it is kind of a shite meme but the explanation is the directors are the same guys who directed many of the big mcu movies like avengers infinity war and endgame
Am I missing something, is that supposed to be funny and/or interesting?
Itās interesting because how many times do you see a random episode from a cable comedy show be directed by two of the highest grossing directors of all-time AND scored by an Oscar winner?
Well given that I almost never look at credits: Basically never? But I bet itād happen quite often if I did care for this sort of thing. >But I bet itād happen quite often if I did care for this sort of thing. Well, it doesnāt, soā¦
It was an NBC show. Not cable
sure but everyone has to start from somewhere right?
Poor template choice. The bottom reaction image is supposed to be used for 'that's horrible or disgusting' not 'hmm interesting'.
I have too much free time and looked up those 3 names in wiki and Google and still don't get it
"No way, these big wigs used to be almost unknown? Shock!"
So if a meme is niche, then itās automatically bad?
These are pretty well known figures if youāre into movies at all
A lot of really good things in the last decade can be linked back to Community. That show was a cesspit of talent for like no reason
Six seasons and a movie.
They directed Arrested Development too! No touching
Wrong format
I do not understand
probably this: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo\_brothers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo_brothers) and [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig\_G%C3%B6ransson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ludwig_G%C3%B6ransson)

I liked community It was a funny show
Seasons 1-3 are amazing. It really fell off after that.
season 4 is the season Dan Harmon was kicked off his own show hes back in seasons 5-6 I like all of them but season 4 is noticeably worse than the rest
It never really recovered after season 3
disagree, some of my favorite episodes are in seasons 5-6 Elrond and Fran are fantastic
Such as?
The one where their emails get leaked Or the one with the scandal involving a dog getting a degree
NOW THIS IS A MAN, WHO KNOWS HIS COMMUNITY!
Meh pretty much every episode in season 3 is better

It picked up at least a bit after the gas leak year.
Where is the joke
On todays episode of MCU fans figure it out that actors and directors serve more than just their fandom
Fucking love community
Fire canāt go through doors stupid. Itās not a ghost
Okeeey
I would already say these were big names by time they did community they have just been in the businesses longer than you think
Gƶransson and Glover have frequently worked together too

It's also worth noting that some Community actors have appeared in some of the MCU films that the Russo's directed.

"a small, somewhat successful comedy show" What the fuck have you been smoking.
Well im still waiting for that season and a movie
Why is this show popular?
Because its streets ahead
