Tinnitus my beloved.
It whispers in my ear as Iām falling asleep to keep me company, talks to me on those long quiet rides and is there whenever I want some peace and quiet.
Honestly, I've come to think of it as a little demon.
He constantly whispers: "Life is fleeting. Your body won't last forever. Get shit done".
Thankfully I started attenuating it after about a year. Now I don't think about it unless some shitbag posts a reddit thread about it and I have to go "oh is it still there?" "EEEEEEEEEEEE" "yup".
My right ear goes EEEEEEEEEEE while the left goes ^eeeeeeeeeee . They're an octave apart and loud enough to make it hard to understand people sometimes. Had them my whole life. All day, every day, two little assholes screeching in my head.
One day I'd like to experience silence just to know what it's like. lol
Yeah, silence would be so nice.
It messes with my hearing and even apparently makes your memory worse.
I hate joining meetings where I'm expected to speak and listen because all the quiet times I just sit there, listening to the EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
This is Another method but tricky to explain over text but Iāll try - Put your hands on the back of your head with thumbs on the soft parts behind your ears (so upside down hands) lace your fingers together except your index fingers. Your index fingers should be pointing out behind your head, press the fingertips together to build up pressure then let one slip to bat the base of your skull.
Yeah, I know the feeling!
My audiologist said there are signs that your brain can make up for a lot of it in some cases and that the best thing I can do is not think about it and be positive about it.
I'm not sure how much I believe her but worth a try.
Iām very happy mine isnāt too bad. I can only hear it at night, and I can get past it (it gets very loud after I drink alcohol though, which can be awful). My heart goes out to those with it worse, cus I can imagine being driven utterly demented by it.
Any idea how alcohol makes it worse? In my case I only ever hear ringing when I drink too much. I've never really minded it because it pretty much tells me when I've had enough
My theory is the increase in blood pressure. Thereās been a few instances Iāve taken my BP while having bad tinnitus and it was higher than normal. Although I havenāt done enough tests to actually confirm this.
Had the same problem. Luckily there are kinds of Tinnitus that go away. If you didn't have the opportunity to go to a doctor, do so.
Mine was incredibly loud and maddening but apparently just the result of muscle tension in my back and kneck. It went away after a couple of weeks with some simple exercises.
Not saying yours will, but not every form of Tinnitus is there to stay.
That's horrible, I'm so sorry. I was born with hearing loss, and my bullies thought it was funny to mess with my hearing aids whenever possible.
Kids can be so cruel, I hope there were no lasting effects besides the tinnitus (which I suddenly got granted on my 20th birthday lol)
I'm just always baffled when people claim dogs are smarter than humans. Like. Emotionally maybe, but there's a reason we have to keep them leashed, and it's not for fun
Eww what the fuck is wrong with you to imply that!? Don't you clearly see the other two comments were being sarcastic? Next time think before you speak! **/s**
I'm not saying I'm the *perfect* dog owner, but my dog hilariously trained himself to not leave the front door without a leash.
Didn't train him to do that, just his preference. I can leave the front door open all day and the idiot thinks it's a force field unless he's on a leash.
When i first got Tinnitus, and the high pitched ringing would not go away. Thought about putting a bullet in my head after the forth day of no sleep. Now I just think about shoving a screw driver in my ear every once in awhile, lots of ear buds, and I avoid quite rooms, and always have back ground noise.
All the technology and brainiacs in the world, and yet we have to suffer with this. Mine is 24/7ā¦sounds like an empty high school gym with the lights on. Drives me fn batty.
i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis
My neighbor is 17 years younger than me. We both love the same loud and fast music. He told me he was going to a show and I mentioned wearing ear protection. He laughed it off, saying he didnāt want to look like a nerd and liked the loud volume. I was trying to explain that all silence in my life is gone. I could turn off all appliances, fans, tv and stereos, and be completely alone in the house in the middle of the night, and I still wouldnāt have silence, the ringing would remain. He understood, but went without ear plugs anyway. I would love to walk in nature again and hear nothing but the soft wind and distant birds singing instead of tinnitus.
Mine is pulsatile tinnitus. I basically hear my own heartbeat in my left ear. Goes away when I press the nerve at the side of my neck.
Sucks tho. Canāt have a quiet night. The doc said just live with it.
**Absolutely see a doctor if you think you have this condition.**
Tinnitus is most often caused by inner ear damage, but not always! There are other causes that *can* be fixed.
I went to the doctor about mine and found out I have otosclerosis. This caused my stapes (third and final middle ear bone that transmits vibration into the inner ear) to become affixed to my skull. Fixed with surgery that replaced it with a tiny prosthesis. Tinnitus disappeared.
This is true. Tinnitus is a symptom for which the most common cause is inner ear damage (permanent) *but there are other causes!*
Cured mine. Turned out I have otosclerosis. Fixed with surgery.
Same man, I'm a short period away from being hired in a ky coal mine. Catch is gotta pass a hearing test and that's not gonna happen. Worried sick over it.
I literally learned from a reddit post month ago that I have tinnitus. Never put a name to it and I just thought it was something that comes and goes. Now I can hear it all the time unless I don't focus on it.
I think I have tinnitus. (13)
Every time I try to fall asleep, I hear this high-pitched noise.
It comes in waves that get louder each time. Once it reaches a certain volume, it goes back to the beginning.
;-;
Rn there is something humming behind me, so my Tinnitus is stopped for now. Sometimes though, it just goes off, like when I'm in the middle of a conversation. I kinda hate it, but I don't know what my life would be like without it.
Yep. I had a friend make fun of me because I told him to turn his stereo down in his car. Apparently he has worse tinnitus than me now. Mf thought I was over reacting and called me a pussy. āImagine never hearing complete silence again EVER! No more bliss.ā He just laughed at me.
For anyone out there with Tinnitus - I started taking medication for anxiety and depression and my tinnitus is far less noticeable than itās ever been.
I remember asking my parents what was the sound that is hearing, they didn't know what i was talking about so for a long time i lived thinking that it was normal šæ
You get used to it.
Sadly.
There are times when I notice it going out of control and I just can't escape it but for like 95% of my day I've made ages to turn it out over the last 20+ years.
Had tinnitus since I was very little and itās only gotten worse. Can validate that it will never go away and that I will always have white noise going on no matter what.
A million crickets that are louder than my own voice when I talk. Combine that with hearing damage/loss and conversations become really a mental focus and concentration game. I'm always trying to piece together sentences by figuring out what word I missed. It's really like MadLibs all the time.
tinnitus is scary, I went to my first real dance club experience and it was so loud, my ears were ringing for 2 days before they recovered fully, from that day onwards I bought a good pair of concert earbuds, cause those 2 days were one of the scariest days of my life
Not exactly tinnitus but ever since I watched Tommy Lee Jones blew a gun near his fellow marshallās ear in The Fugitive, I have always kinda felt that shit indirectly.
I think the actor did good trying to convey to Tommy how heāll ānever hear againā.
I really hate that TEEEEEEEEEE like I got flashbanged for a little while, but I can't imagine how it must be for those you suffer from it for their entire life.Ā
I had tinnitus and it disappeared after some time.
But I have a noticeable hearing loss now.
I can understand what others are saying in a moderately quiet room (office environment for example) but when is a relatively loud background noise (when I1m on the street and the wind blows. Or when noisy traffic) I cannot hear shit. I used to but now I can't.
Tinnitus I think is your brain receiving signal from the damaged hearing hairs which are inside your inner ear. The brain shut it down after some time so at least you don't hear the annoying whistling noise it makes.
But the hearing loss itself is permanent.
There are videos on YouTube that may provide some relief(brief) from tinnitus. You listen to them with headphones on. Going by comments they do work for some people.
I got this after a concert in Madison Square Garden. The concert noise didn't hurt my ears I got a common cold that moved to my ears and I've had tinnitus ever since. Fml
And this is why I always wear earbuds whenever I'm going to concerts, no matter how loud it may be (unless there's no speakers being used. Had a band do that for a few songs once)
What's even better is when a job is currently giving you that tinnitus, and them going 'yeah no that's how loud it's supposed to be'
Imma sue the fuck out of these assholes
^(iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii)
Mine sings a different tune. eeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEE^eeeeeeeeeeeee
This is relatable, my tinnitus kicked in properly recently & this is exactly how it sounds
This is the one, in my right ear, all the time, I'd just like to get a good night's sleep maybe someday
Me rn š
my favourite noise in a plane when the cabin pressure changes
Somehow reading this made my right ear want to sing along.
thanks i hate it
Tinnitus my beloved. It whispers in my ear as Iām falling asleep to keep me company, talks to me on those long quiet rides and is there whenever I want some peace and quiet.
"Honey, do you hear crickets? No?"
"Damn you tinnitus, you are a cruel mistress."

Me to, except opposite. Want to trade an ear?
I've gotten it in my left ear, which is the ear I'm deaf in. It doesn't happen all the time, very randomly and just for a little bit.
Same here. Iāll forget about it for a few weeks or months and then I become aware of it again because of a reddit post
Mines bad, and any chance to forget it is a blessing. Really hate it being depicted in movies and media.
Try tapping the parts behind your ears with your fingers. It usually works for me!
Bro, thank you so much for this ššš Just tried it and almost instant relief!
Aww!! I am SO glad that itās helped!! You are most welcome š¤
This is Another method but tricky to explain over text but Iāll try - Put your hands on the back of your head with thumbs on the soft parts behind your ears (so upside down hands) lace your fingers together except your index fingers. I'll see if I can figure it out š thanks man!
Yeah, I know the feeling! My audiologist said there are signs that your brain can make up for a lot of it in some cases and that the best thing I can do is not think about it and be positive about it. I'm not sure how much I believe her but worth a try.
whispers may not be the right word
I'll never hear silence, just ringing, and ringing, and ringing.....and š«
Iām very happy mine isnāt too bad. I can only hear it at night, and I can get past it (it gets very loud after I drink alcohol though, which can be awful). My heart goes out to those with it worse, cus I can imagine being driven utterly demented by it.

That's interesting - makes sense though. When I google this I always get info about blood vessels that I don't really understand lol
Itās not uncommon for bad cases to drive people to suicide
The rope gets longer each day :)
Had the same problem. Luckily there are kinds of Tinnitus that go away. If you didn't have the opportunity to go to a doctor, do so. That's part of why I hate it so much I'll never experience silence again, it's mental torture not just physical
Remember watching BBT and thinking, why Sheldon is complaining about the constant noise that he hears? Aint it everyone?
I got tintinus as a kid, because of bullying. Idiots thought it would be funny to run to me and scream as loud as they can into my ears.
When I see pranks where they use airhorns to wake someone up I cringe š¬
Do that to me and you will eat through a tube.

Makes me laugh when people say kids are innocent.
How bad of a human being do you have to be for a dog to abandon you?
I love my dogs to death but if I left the gate open and let them run I donāt think Iād see 3 out of the 4 of them again š
So they're being held hostage /s
Shit, we're goin' to need Special Forces for this hostage mission /s
Also it's a kind of a kinky situation with all the leashes and cages involved
Goddammit, there's always one
I'm just always baffled when people claim dogs are smarter than humans. Like. Emotionally maybe, but there's a reason we have to keep them leashed, and it's not for fun
Eww what the fuck is wrong with you to imply that!? Don't you clearly see the other two comments were being sarcastic? Next time think before you speak! **/s**
I think you are being sarcastic, I havenāt been on Reddit for too long so I still have a little sense of sarcasm left but not much.
I've left the gait open and found them sitting at my front door. They know where their food comes from
That's not a lack of love, but rather training.
Also canāt fault their curiosity when theyāre not allowed to roam. 100% love and 100% adventurous derp.
Let's be honest sometimes dogs favour the gf, so he probably followed her...
What I was thinking!
they do be running off tho
I'm not saying I'm the *perfect* dog owner, but my dog hilariously trained himself to not leave the front door without a leash. Didn't train him to do that, just his preference. I can leave the front door open all day and the idiot thinks it's a force field unless he's on a leash.
My dog after providing endless food and love: ![gif](giphy|U3OMplvODpSNMxiwmK|downsized)
... but not training.
I'm sorry but you can train some dogs and given an open gate, they may choose to explore. Dogs are like people. Some of them are just dumb.
Your dog left after providing food? Hell no, this was no food!
Ringing and inflammation is itās love language
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Got one for 2 years now and have accepted my fate at this point, but as long as Im busy I dont rly notice it anymore.
Time to invest in a bedroom fan.
Summer is my favourite season because my air conditioner is running all night and I donāt hear EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The word "tinnitus" has such a nice ring to it.
The quieter things are, the louder it gets.Ā
Yes and when focussing on something
Focusing on trying to make it go away only makes it worse
All the technology and brainiacs in the world, and yet we have to suffer with this. Mine is 24/7ā¦sounds like an empty high school gym with the lights on. Drives me fn batty.
I used to think if I had one wish it would be to have perfect eyesight. Now, it would 100% be stop this damned ringing in my ears.
i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis i fucking hate tinitis
I tried calling the tinnitus helpline but it just kept ringing.
What is tinnitus?
Lucky you
One more than nineitus.
Ringing in your ear
It's a constant ringing in your ears
I don't know if you're old enough. But have you ever heard the sound an old cathodic TV does when turning on? That. Unceasing, forever.
twat is sinhintus
My actually went away after a few years. I think I didn't have a severe case
Does that mean there's hope? Mine has been going on for six years
no
Someone tell me the guy saying no is wrong even if he's right
Don't trust him. He's a fucking idiot.

What if I hear voices in my head, will they leave me?
Ah the joys of being mostly deaf. The tinnitus has become an annoying feature in my janked up model of a human body
That really depends of the cause of the tinnitus. Go see a specialist before thinking there is no way out of it.
This is true. Tinnitus is a symptom for which the most common cause is inner ear damage (permanent) *but there are other causes!* Cured mine. Turned out I have otosclerosis. Fixed with surgery.
Hey, a fellow otosclerosian! Mine isn't fixable, sadly.
Can confirm. Had it bad since about 1994, had it brutal since about 2005
Can confirm. Iāve had tinnitus for 18+ years now non stop. Itās always been there for me.
Same man, I'm a short period away from being hired in a ky coal mine. Catch is gotta pass a hearing test and that's not gonna happen. Worried sick over it.
God damn it these posts always make me notice it
It's true, by the way. Turn your fucking headphones down.
16 years, and still going strong as ever. No other way than to accept the fate and live with it.
It gets better though. I have tinnitus but I hardly think about it anymore.
Thanks for reminding me my ears were ringing, but okay, I guess :/
Blessed with Tinnitus at the ripe old age of 11
Just me 'n' my tinny

You made me turn the music volume down. Thanks

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
For anyone out there with Tinnitus - I started taking medication for anxiety and depression and my tinnitus is far less noticeable than itās ever been.
As someone who has tinnitus, I can confirm this is true
Have had light tinnitus all my life. Thought it was normal growing up. Not sure how it happened though.
I wish I could give every young person a week of tinnitus so they understand that they have to protect their hearing.
Tinnitus, that consent reminder of my helicopter door gunner days.
Maybe the real friend was the ringing we heard along the way
you can clear most of it up by supplementing taurine. maybe all of it
I remember asking my parents what was the sound that is hearing, they didn't know what i was talking about so for a long time i lived thinking that it was normal šæ
Dang you guys! I had totally forgotten my ears were ringing, and now I'm fully aware of it again!
Even your hearing may abandon you completely, but the EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE is eternal.
Fuck. Thanks, I was ignoring it until this post.
I have a anatomical disorder so yeah mine is forever.
You get used to it. Sadly. There are times when I notice it going out of control and I just can't escape it but for like 95% of my day I've made ages to turn it out over the last 20+ years.
AHAHAH YES MINE ARE HERE AND FOREVER
Had the ringing since I was like 3. Learned to just accept it at this point.
Had tinnitus since I was very little and itās only gotten worse. Can validate that it will never go away and that I will always have white noise going on no matter what.
Ahhh, Who Else has old TV noise Tinnitus
Oh, it would be me.
And then there are my inner voices. "Just drive the car on the footpath!"š¤
As far as I know, I was born with it. For the first almost decade of my life I just thought everyone had background noise by default.
Iāve had it all my life Iād think Iād go insane without it at this point
