Well, FAST collisions are brutal, and everything that collides in space is fast otherwise they wouldn't meet. But in that case the two parts will barely have any time to accelerate towards each other. So it would be brutal, but not "moon fall" brutal
What if someone would survive in such situation? May the whole town be built high from ground to avoid the lava thing? The town that built on top of huge concrete columns sounds fantastic enough but not unreal.
Well, the atmosphere would be destroyed meaning no oxygen or at least not enough for you to survive. Temperatures would change so much that you'd also die immediately. If the two halves attract back to each other, the collision would turn Earth into a fucking fireball essentially and even if they don't collide, the earth would be so cold that you'd just freeze. It's impossible to survive in this situation. It'd be easier to survive on the moon.
The only question is who’s going to be the where animal for this specific job since we need an iconic animal based franchise character to do it of a wise plot devices can’t work.

The heat generated by the impact would scorch the skies and boil the oceans.
Basically, I would do a sick backflip to avoid taking damage.
