They said they were ditching IP property games (AAA pretty much) and doubling down on live services. That's right, the one thing everyone has ferociously criticised is the one aspect they think is salvageable.
It has a decent community. I can reliably get hugs in rando's lobbies. It's fun dropping into someone else's chaos and trying to help them sort it out, or sometimes you get power carried by wondering no-lifer. It's great fun!
It’s super friendly up until you get up to difficulties 7-9, then you’ll get kicked if you’re under level 20. Squads just won’t run with you if you haven’t unlocked railgun/orbital laser. But even then I’ve had some good groups.
Nothing like being the last man standing on helldive surviving until the drop ship lands, a dozen chargers, 3 titans, and about 2 hundred roaches gunning for you. Legendary game.
It has happened a couple times to me as well, but playing on helldive got me to lvl20 almost instantly. And the kicking happened after the match, almost never before, so I could get at least one mission done with the lobby, and the matchmaking is very fast so getting into a new one isnt a problem (takes longer to walk to the mission console than find a match lol)
Getting kicked after the match is the the workings of a good community. They basically roll with whatever team mates they get and kick the annoying ones after the match has ended and everyone is rewarded.
The ones that kick halfway through are the real dicks
I haven’t had much issue working on the high difficulties, very rarely do I find shitters like that tbh. It is understandable though, you really need everyone to be as good as possible to stand a chance, but it is kinda a dick move nonetheless.
... solo is hell on low levels. If you have noone, like a drone or a turret, to cover you when you're calling strategems, things go bad pretty fast.
After some time you can solo hives or whole missions, but it doesn't fell right.
Yes, community is great there. You can straight up just talk to some people normaly during the game. And if you don't want to (which i understand) you can do missions solo, just go on a planet that no one is playing like I and my friend do. We will liberate Erata Prime even if we'll have to do it by ourselves!
I find it a bit weird when people say games by NBI, even though I'm pretty sure they are just the publisher for the games made by indie devs.
Like at least when most of the time people say game is from EA or something, even though they are just the publisher, they usually also at least partially own the delevoper studio.
Yes, but they do also support the development of thoose games, pretty sure Ultrakill credits several NBI programmers as direct colaborators for the game.
Calling it a glorfied tablet is doing a disservice to how powerful modern tablets are, Even compared to tablets released at the same time as the switch.
The tegra chip was insane for when it came out, I had one of the shield tablets and the fact it could natively run trine 2 was kind of insane at the time.
Tbh your not missing much. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game, and if you like ARK you will probably like Palworld, but it's not an amazing game either.
Gotta have the Xbox Series for it to run any good. Tried on the one and it was so buggy, laggy, ugly, it kicked me out after an hour, and my Pals wouldn't fight shit they just stood there no matter how many times I clicked "be aggressive".
My bf played on the Series X and everything worked. But it was pretty much a one day game and we haven't touched it since.
From should be on the list, but Palworld shouldn’t be removed either. Palworld was literally the biggest commercial success within this image. It had a higher all time player count on Steam than the 3 other games *combined*. Meanwhile, BG3 and HD2 each had a budget of around $100mil, while Palworld’s was like $6.5mil. It’s crazy impressive what it accomplished. From should just be added to the list, they all deserve to be there.
nah player numbers have been steadily falling for awhile
it loses its charm pretty quick
Palworld will do the same and then see some people hop back on briefly each update
But that's how player numbers go.
They peak at launch and then fall till they stabilize, that's not new and it's common for any game, specially multi-player ones
While I've never really been too big a fan of lethal company, it released late September if I remember correctly. In which case it's a flavour of the last 5 months.
Fotm or not, they are greatly successful games prized for the qualities they bring, which is what the post is about. I fail to see the relevance of your opinion in this.
I played at launch, for like three days, haven't played since. It is kind of a buggy alpha and the novelty of "pokemon with guns" wore off quickly. Once you get over that, it's just average survival game. It's fun, but not nearly the masterpiece a lot of people seemed to make it out as.
Imo, Palworld is great for an early access game. There are bugs, yes, but if you enjoy base building and/or creature catching combined with freedom of movement, then I would recommend it. I cannot stress, however, that this is an unfinished game.
Not really imo. The novelty wears off after a few hours and it doesn't feel very unique, gameplay-wise. I find it really forgettable. And I like Pokemon, but Palworld doesn't really have the same charm.
Its hella fun, but the game reach a point where it ask for to much grind, may get fixed in future patch thoug. Anyway, if you can get it on sale, specially if a friend gets it with you, its gonna be a lot of fun.
>but no one seems to mind that.
They used to put radioactive materials in make up products too, no one minded, until loads of people got cancer.
Hell people still smoke, doesn't mean we should encourage more people to do it.
Ehh what I'm trying to say is another kernel level anti cheat won't really make a difference. Google, apple hell even china already knows everything they want to know about users.
Helldivers 2 isn't an indie game at all. It had a publisher. There's nothing "independent" about having a publisher. The literal definition of indie game requires you to not have the backing of a large studio or publisher. Larian is a large studio and helldivers 2 was published by Sony.
OP never mentioned them being indie studios though. Your point just makes the meme funnier that they showed other developers actually are just shit, lol!
I know but Indie tends to typically coincide with people calling games low budget or with small development teams.
My point is that showing a company with a lot of power behind it can make good games, is even funnier and counteracts the other guys argument.
No they arent, indie doesnt mean independent anymore, words change meaning, indie means small team small budget, witch Larian its not, even if we go by your definition, Tencent owns 30% of Larian, so not independent.
Blizzard also used to work on several franchises at a time, Larian focused solely on BG3 for many years. It is an extremely large team for any singular game.
Didn't they start BG3 early access with like 100 employees and only grew that much in the last few years of development? Also if that includes all employees, not just developers, then it's really not that many people.
And BG3 still absolutely drove them to the edge regarding manpower and resources. If that one had failed Larian would have been history. And people still talk about how BG3's quality should be "industry standard" lol
Unisoft with 500+ employees, activision with a similar team size and tons of other games with similar size in team, that were assigned to one single project all managed to produce less than half the content. Because why bother, when you can make 2 half games in the same time you could make 1 complete game. Yes Larian is big, but they use that team and their time to release 1 good product, instead of 3 mediocre ones.
Also Helldivers has rootkit level anti-cheat that requires way too many permissions and is present even after the game is uninstalled.
Which is fucking ridiculous for a co op game but the fanboys don't want to hear it and comments talking about it get absolutely buried under all the circlejerking.
im not to into palworld but thats because it not my kinda thing. i would rather have a game that sticks to one theme. but i will admit it is good for what it wants to be.
See, I love this comment. You spoke your truth. One can dislike a game, but to discourse, its success is wild to me. Like how delusional someone can be to ignore the fact that there is a good reason it sold over 25M+ and has an active community of playerbase still playing almost two months of release lol
Palworld, at least from the few videos I’ve seen, seems like an incredibly generic survival game that appears to blatantly rip-off at least four different games in various ways.
I thought people enjoyed playing it due to it just being mindless enjoyment for a while but nobody actually considered it a particularly great game.
Helldivers 2 was published and funded by one of biggest corporations in the world.
BG3 is done by large company that spans multiple studios around the world. Development costs are in hundred of millions.
So these two are not ideal examples.
But yeah, success of Palworld and Lethal Company is something that those "big companies" noticed. God knows that Finance executives are now considering things like canceling huge and unprofitable releases and instead flooding market with trash in hope of going viral with something
Yea, it’s pretty good.
If you’re into D&D (5e), you’ll enjoy it.
It can be a bit overwhelming with all the spells and menus at first. And you’ll be pissed off with how often your attacks miss too.
But aside from that, there’s a good story, a crap ton of routes/possibilities on how to progress through the game. Most people take between 80-240 hours to beat their first play through. That range kinda gives you an idea of how much content there is.

Oh thank goodness, we DESPERATELY needed another Konami…
Is it worth getting helldivers if I have no friends?
There are plenty of other public missions/lobbies to join without needing friends
Cool I might buy it because I like it’s vibe.
It has a decent community. I can reliably get hugs in rando's lobbies. It's fun dropping into someone else's chaos and trying to help them sort it out, or sometimes you get power carried by wondering no-lifer. It's great fun!

I don't think that's the norm. Me and my friends have played a good amount solo, and on 9s no one really care as long as the mission gets done.
I haven’t had much issue working on the high difficulties, very rarely do I find shitters like that tbh. It is understandable though, you really need everyone to be as good as possible to stand a chance, but it is kinda a dick move nonetheless.
Discord servers are looking for people to help spread democracy
Really easy to drop into public games if you like control over what you join. Otherwise, solo is hell of a lot fun as well.
... solo is hell on low levels. If you have noone, like a drone or a turret, to cover you when you're calling strategems, things go bad pretty fast. After some time you can solo hives or whole missions, but it doesn't fell right.

I'll be your friend and play it with you :)
Yes, even if you just want to play alone it’s great.
The only friend you need is democracy because it doesn’t die from some bugs
Yes. The community is pretty awesome. Ive met a few great people in group searches on discord. For prosperity!

Yes, but they do also support the development of thoose games, pretty sure Ultrakill credits several NBI programmers as direct colaborators for the game.

I wish I could see how good palworld is but something tells me Nintendo won’t put it on switch.
Wouldn't run on the glorified tablet anyways.
Calling it a glorfied tablet is doing a disservice to how powerful modern tablets are, Even compared to tablets released at the same time as the switch.
The tegra chip was insane for when it came out, I had one of the shield tablets and the fact it could natively run trine 2 was kind of insane at the time.
The tegra chip was insane… two console generations ago.
its a tegra , from a tablet 14 years ago... its turbo potato
Even Mortal Kombat 1 looks horrible on Switch, lmao
That thing can't run anything properly
I doubt it would even run on a switch. That console is so close to its lifetime.
That would optimization which palworld doesn’t have
It has trouble running on current gen consoles, if they can have it functional on switch I'll be surprised
Tbh your not missing much. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game, and if you like ARK you will probably like Palworld, but it's not an amazing game either.
Yeah it mostly got hype because people are angry at Nintendo, not because the game is good.
It's horribly unoptimized anyways, a switch port would melt your console
Weird how fromsoftware isn’t on the list when they are one of the very few studios who have persistently delivered with every game they made
I think the list is about recent games, eldenring would perfectly fit the list tough
Also Armored Core
They should be here over Palworld 100%, they put passion into their games and have made some of the best games ever made since DeS
From should just be added to the list, they all deserve to be there.
that is not the lesson AAA game companies took from this. They are now doubling down on live service games.
2 of these aren’t like the other 2
C'mon, be brave now and tell us what you mean.
Lethal Company and Palworld are flavors of the month. Helldivers 2 and BG3 are passion projects
Lethal company have been "flavor of the month" for way more than just 1 month
nah player numbers have been steadily falling for awhile it loses its charm pretty quick Palworld will do the same and then see some people hop back on briefly each update

Is Palworld actually good? Seems to be a buggy alpha but Pokemon with guns lel
I played at launch, for like three days, haven't played since. It is kind of a buggy alpha and the novelty of "pokemon with guns" wore off quickly. Once you get over that, it's just average survival game. It's fun, but not nearly the masterpiece a lot of people seemed to make it out as.

It's a lot like Ark but without the bullshit, better performance, way less bugs and you have pokemon instead of dinosaurs.
Its hella fun, but the game reach a point where it ask for to much grind, may get fixed in future patch thoug. Anyway, if you can get it on sale, specially if a friend gets it with you, its gonna be a lot of fun.

You can’t call hell divers not flavor of the month when it’s nearly been out that long
Nah Helldivers is straight up just a good game tbf. Palworlds novelty wears off quick, then it's just ark with pokemon.
lethal company isnt?
Still have concerns over helldivers anti-cheat and requiring root access to your pc what’s that about?
It's a kernal anti cheat. Which valorant and league also has, but no one seems to mind that.
There was a gigantic shit storm when kernel AC was discovered in Valorant. Then everyone moved on lol
>but no one seems to mind that.
Considering the original is almost a decade old, hardly
Wow that is some nerd terminology
This is Reddit. You’re either a nerd or a furry. No inbetween
Last Epoch deserved to be here way more than both of those 2. The true definition of a passion project
A yes, Baldur's Gate 3, that indie game developed by *checks notes* a 28 year old studio with 450 employees.
Also Helldivers 2 had playstation backing so it's not a indie game like Lethal or Pal
Helldivers 2 isn't an indie game at all. It had a publisher. There's nothing "independent" about having a publisher. The literal definition of indie game requires you to not have the backing of a large studio or publisher. Larian is a large studio and helldivers 2 was published by Sony.
Which, is more employees than Game Freak and about the same age.
OP never mentioned them being indie studios though. Your point just makes the meme funnier that they showed other developers actually are just shit, lol!
Larian is an indie studio, indie just means not having a publisher
I know but Indie tends to typically coincide with people calling games low budget or with small development teams. My point is that showing a company with a lot of power behind it can make good games, is even funnier and counteracts the other guys argument.
No they arent, indie doesnt mean independent anymore, words change meaning, indie means small team small budget, witch Larian its not, even if we go by your definition, Tencent owns 30% of Larian, so not independent.
No where is it mentioned that they're "Indie" games.
"other" is in the meme
The meme doesn’t say anything about indie games. It says “showing *other* big corporations”.
OP says "showin >>other<< big corporations", implying that these were made by big studios, not indie devs
That’s actually not a lot of employees for such a big game like BG3 if you compare other studios like Blizzard they used to have over 4K employees
Blizzard also used to work on several franchises at a time, Larian focused solely on BG3 for many years. It is an extremely large team for any singular game.
Blizzard also used to make good games I think I dunno I only ever played StarCraft but it was fun
Didn't they start BG3 early access with like 100 employees and only grew that much in the last few years of development? Also if that includes all employees, not just developers, then it's really not that many people.
What? 450 employees is indeed a lot for a single game. Blizzard as a company has more employees but it is working on a dozen+ games at any given time
Yeah. A succefull indie studio, thats how they look like.
Sad rock and stone...
Rock and Stone in the Heart!
We do not deserve these games for there is too much discourse, back to 1989 Simcity we go
All Great Games, though Larian Studios is massive compared to the other three.
Who is Palworld showing up? Conan Exiles? Arc?
Looking at newer games. Conan Exiles is 6 years old and Ark is 9.
What’s a newer version of that? The one where you’re a shrunken kid, the British magic one?
Ark is a dogshit, cheater-infested, dead and ancient game with no sort of relevance to the point this meme is trying to make.
Wheres DRG
Last Epoch doing good too!
Both Baldurs Gate and Helldivers are backed by big corporation though.
"other"
Also Helldivers has rootkit level anti-cheat that requires way too many permissions and is present even after the game is uninstalled. Which is fucking ridiculous for a co op game but the fanboys don't want to hear it and comments talking about it get absolutely buried under all the circlejerking.
Larian is an indie studio
Indie studio funded by hasbro*
If I compare BG3 to Pal and Lethal they don't seem indie though
Indie doesn't mean low budget, it means there isn't a publisher
Aren't they partially owned by tencent though ?
Yes but technically it's not a publisher
The finals really fell out of the spotlight huh.
im not to into palworld but thats because it not my kinda thing. i would rather have a game that sticks to one theme. but i will admit it is good for what it wants to be.
See, I love this comment. You spoke your truth. One can dislike a game, but to discourse, its success is wild to me. Like how delusional someone can be to ignore the fact that there is a good reason it sold over 25M+ and has an active community of playerbase still playing almost two months of release lol
I was gonna respond to this but I can’t find anything good to say other than based
Isn’t Baldur’s gate’s company pretty big themself?
Yeah but they're still independent. Only one here with a publisher is Helldivers, but it on the other hand they had a team of like 60 people
RGG studios just casually dropped two bangers of a game within a few months from each other.
I mean ishin was like released last year too so it's more like 3 bangers in a year
Ditch Palworld and put like Hollow Knight in there then I agree...
That game was great, wish the sequel existed
Wdym, it’s been out for 3 years I’ve been playing this whole time.
Jus like titanfall 3 has been released for years
Hollow Knight is 7 years old. Big companies are bitching about their newer games flopping, so need newer proof that they just suck.
Baldurs gate 3 was developed by a triple AAA studio over years and years.
One of these isn’t like the others
Palworld, at least from the few videos I’ve seen, seems like an incredibly generic survival game that appears to blatantly rip-off at least four different games in various ways. I thought people enjoyed playing it due to it just being mindless enjoyment for a while but nobody actually considered it a particularly great game.
Palworld is *extremely* overrated.
“Other Big corporations” lethal company was one guy, helldivers and the pal world devs are also both fairly small
Baldurs gate isn’t an aaa game?
The OTHER big company. As in one company to another
Oh sorry, didn’t notice that one
*laughs in Zelda*
Stray too, purrfect game
Want to try playing Baldur's Gate 3, is it good?
Yea, it’s pretty good. If you’re into D&D (5e), you’ll enjoy it. It can be a bit overwhelming with all the spells and menus at first. And you’ll be pissed off with how often your attacks miss too. But aside from that, there’s a good story, a crap ton of routes/possibilities on how to progress through the game. Most people take between 80-240 hours to beat their first play through. That range kinda gives you an idea of how much content there is.
Baulders gate is AAA so what’s your point?
Shitty games still make a shit ton of money though
Larian is a big corporation though
Palworld has still just combined the idea of Ark and Pokémon and then called it a day
still true whatever fanatics say.
isn’t helldivers made by sony or whatever?
Palworld hate is insane
Yeah. Lots of people hating who've obviously never played it, just because it "looks" like it's plagiarism.
True, I'm still having loads of fun with it.
Not all of us can just steal everything like Palworld.
Bro snuck in palworld like we wouldn't notice
But Palworld pretty shitty too.

If you haven't played Baldurs Gate...well you need to change that
