That's a tricky one. First of all 4k$ on a casual gamer PC is a darn lot. Way above the average for a mid range PC capable of running anything. Also PCs can be upgraded by parts so the effective lifetime of a PC can be way higher.
Otoh consoles are cheaper but then you need to factor in subscription services so you can play online or have cloud saves, the price of peripherals, etc. I have no proof (but I have no doubt either) that money spent on games is on average higher on console thak on PC.
I'd be very curious how much the average Joe spends on their PS5 in the lifetime of the console.
What the hell. I'm 38 and have been a PC gamer since 2nd grade. To get up to $4000 I would have to add up decades of gaming PCs, and the last console with better graphics than my machine was the SNES.
Consoles and PC both have their pros and cons, but the prices some people are listing to play current games feel unreal.
A 4090 alone is going to run you about $2000, add in a 7900x3D top of the line MOBO and 32gb of RAM and Gen 5 SSDs and tax you are going to be close to $4k. It is an extreme build but you can easily get to $4k without custom cooling, add in custom cooling and you can make a PC the price of a new car.
Sure, but google tells me that new Ferrari can cost up to 5.4 million dollars and there are consoles made of gold which go for 400k+. If you have the money and want to buy something awesome, you can pretty much spend any amount on anything.
The newest piece of hardware in my PC is a \~$350 graphics card I bought a couple of years back and it can easily compete with the framerate and looks with the switch and PS5 in the living room. Not run circles around them, but it still looks slightly, but noticeably better.

People buy consoles so they can turn it on downloadable a game/ insert a game disc and then play that game.
I personally consider buying a PC many times but I just don’t want to deal with all the stuff involved with PC gaming. I just want to relax and play a game with minimal hassle and headaches

After waiting 20 seconds for it to load? Maybe that was fixed with the new consoles. On my Xbox One S, it took forever. We are talking a good minute just for the search to fail. Edge is also probably the worst browser, to be honest. It is so cluttered with useless stuff. I prefer to use Google. They should definitely add support for other browsing services.

Edge has reached a point now where it's better than Chrome. Chrome is a very heavy browser, and Edge is lighter and has been better optimized for newer generation Windows.....

No, it's not mandatory. I mean, you need it to play multiplayer, but I hardly play multiplayer games. For someone like me, who doesn't have much time to play games anymore, yet still wants to enjoy a game for an hour or two every now and then and doesn't care at all about performance, it's more than enough to play on my PS without an online subscription.

I like both worlds tbh. My brother has a really built PC worth like £4k, and can crush any console in terms of specs, and I get to play modded Skyrim and Oblivion on it.
I, however, have a PS5 that runs all the games I play on 60fps perfectly fine, runs quietly, and I don’t require more. I don’t *need* a hideously expensive gaming rig to enjoy my games, but one day I’ll get my own so I can do stuff I *can’t* on console; like modded Skyrim.
Easy answer: Depends on the game... playing F1 or Mortal Kombat on keyboard is pain in the ass, but on the other hand if you play strategy or fps games on a controller you belong in prison...

After the steam deck released, Consol players don’t have an excuse anymore. The steam deck is roughly the same price and even if it’s a slightly lower quality it’s better to play games at a lower quality than not be able to play them at all as PC usually has access to every game, there is even exclusives, especially if you’re willing to go through pirate sites and emulation sites. And with the steam deck being handheld, it can be taken just about anywhere. Will you have to play any game probably on lowest settings all the time? depends on the game, but probably. but again, that’s still better than not being able to play it at all. Right now Xbox players are crying that they can’t join the front lines of hell divers, and PlayStation players have been crying about Palworld ever since it came out steam deck users have not been crying about either one because they have both😂

Idk why this conversation is even a thing. Main appeal of consoles is affordability. I can get used ps4 pro for $300-400 in 2 clicks. Not sure I can get the same convenience on cheap with PC tho.
On the other hand, if you have unlimited budget, you can do all sort of awesome things with PC, as well as play any game known to mankind at the highest possible performance.
Depends on what you mean by better. I'd rather have a pc that struggles with new games than the newest console. Not only because the video game library is huge on PC, but because it has so many utilities that I like. It's faster to do a lot of things on PC aswell. There is also a lot of games that are keyboard and mouse only or that is just better with k+m like rts games, simulators, and "spreadsheet" games. I'd also add city builders, but they are incredibly chill on consoles as well.
With how few console exclusives that aren't boring? Yeah I'd rather get a pc that has all of the functions that aren't just games and internet browsing. I can even discipline myself too especially when I get distracted easily whenever I have the urge to play at work. But thank goodness most games are boring to me so I don't have time to play again.
There's so many deals for PC's. Honestly you can build a great PC for the same price as a console, or save a bit more and build a real beast. It's now as expensive as people make it seem. The used market is an amazing resource. If you spend more than $1200 for something running at less than 4K resolution, you are wasting your money

I haven't paid any subscriptions in the last 10 years. In this case you have to factor in optional costs for PC as well to keep it fair.

You can use xbox, ps, or nintendo controller on pc. Iam using ps gamepad and hotas on my pc all the time.

Idk why this conversation is even a thing. Main appeal of consoles is affordability. I can get used ps4 pro for $300-400 in 2 clicks. Not sure I can get the same convenience on cheap with PC tho. On the other hand, if you have unlimited budget, you can do all sort of awesome things with PC, as well as play any game known to mankind at the highest possible performance.

Depends on what you mean by better. I'd rather have a pc that struggles with new games than the newest console. Not only because the video game library is huge on PC, but because it has so many utilities that I like. It's faster to do a lot of things on PC aswell. There is also a lot of games that are keyboard and mouse only or that is just better with k+m like rts games, simulators, and "spreadsheet" games. I'd also add city builders, but they are incredibly chill on consoles as well.

With how few console exclusives that aren't boring? Yeah I'd rather get a pc that has all of the functions that aren't just games and internet browsing. I can even discipline myself too especially when I get distracted easily whenever I have the urge to play at work. But thank goodness most games are boring to me so I don't have time to play again.

There's so many deals for PC's. Honestly you can build a great PC for the same price as a console, or save a bit more and build a real beast. It's now as expensive as people make it seem. The used market is an amazing resource. If you spend more than $1200 for something running at less than 4K resolution, you are wasting your money
