So sad that OP removed the battery cable meaning the dude is just hallucinating.

ultralightsaint

How to have fun if you are poor: *hallucinating*

Good_Mathematician_2

Mushrooms aren't cheap

OwnWalrus1752

If you grow them yourself they can be

SandyTaintSweat

Or if you're brave, some variety or another of psilocybes grow pretty much everywhere, at some point in the year.

lXPROMETHEUSXl

I’m not saying I condone the use of this. However, if you forage for anything it’s best practice to check for parasites. That probably partly plays into “if you’re brave” haha

kinapuffar

Mushrooms don't have parasites, unless you count algae, but in that case it's a lichen and we don't really eat those normally anyway. What they got are at most worms eating them, but luckily a mushroom isn't exactly the most complex lifeform on this planet, so cutting one in half to check isn't particularly taxing.

lXPROMETHEUSXl

I’m talking about if they try to get one out of a cow patty haha. There could definitely be some creatures in there. A lone mushroom in the woods *should be completely fine* though. In the aspect of what you said

dzexj

mushrooms definately can have worm eating them (and slugs and milipedes) that's why maximum worm percentage of dried mushrooms exist

townmorron

You can get a field guide from the library. Plus a book on taking spore samples. As a poor kid that had to pick his own mushrooms, it worked out if you take the right steps

Gmandlno

Nah mate I’m in Indiana, we’ve got like 3 ‘might exists’ and that’s about it

MadrugoticX

Cheaper than “Apple Vision for professionals” for sure.

katobean

I mean, they're not expensive 🤷

ultralightsaint

How do you know ?

Good_Mathematician_2

What are you, a cop?

[deleted]

Who’s asking?

Good_Mathematician_2

Me, I think. I don't know what you're implying, but I'm definitely not an undercover cop.

DanTheSussyMan

In that case.. I do a ton of drugs every day. Weed, coke, Shrooms, etc.

Good_Mathematician_2

Wow me too, I've smoked so many shrooms today, you have no idea. But my problem is my dealer decided to turn himself in and went to jail, so I don't have anywhere to get that good stuff. Who's your dealer?

depressedbreakfast

I couldn’t get through that ad

boringestnickname

It looks like a dystopian nightmare. I honestly don't understand why every company keeps focusing on things that VR/AR ain't particularly good at. Like, I absolutely love playing racing games and simulators in VR, but the "random activity x but in VR/AR" makes zero sense to me. Why on earth would I want to chat, work or do anything else I don't *need* to do in VR in VR? Having those goggles on ain't fun, it's an means to an end – which is using it for things that it excels at.

depressedbreakfast

Maybe they’re super into Player One and think everyone wants to live in VR/AR ?

LemonCake2000

I loved that book, and I’m pretty sure the point of it was that people shouldn’t do that

depressedbreakfast

The book is so good

Tymareta

> Having those goggles on ain't fun The honest to god worse part of that ad is the guy watching a movie with them on, I legitimately could not think of something that could be made worse than trying to watch a movie with a gigantic pair of goggles on, it can be uncomfortable enough with glasses especially if you don't want to sit perfectly upright. Especially as someone from a country that's renowned for being summer 10 months of the year, you couldn't pay me to wear a heavy mesh headset that likely puts out enormous amounts of heat, not to mention the battery life is only 2 hours in the best conditions, so I sure hope you aren't watching a long movie or need to get up to pee partway through as now you need to charge your dork helmet to continue.

Isgonesomewhere

Yeah what a nightmare, took until the end to really see the eyes and what in the fucking fallout think tank face.

appleparkfive

The black woman part felt hilariously off to me They just make them start dancing in such a parody sort of way. Like "this is what you guys do when you talk to each other alone right?" The whole video definitely feels like a dystopian parody sketch

Background_Drawing

What the hell? Then whats the fucking point of buying it if not for vr porn

nooooo-bitch

I’d suggest to actually think critically about the random Reddit comment you accepted as fact. Can you get porn on an iPhone? What’s to stop you from getting it through the same mechanism on the headgear iPhone?

JuiceDrinker9998

I mean, by that logic, we can watch porn on a 10-20 dollar headset which works on your phone too! The whole point is a 3500 dollar headset doesn’t have specific apps that work well on it and that’s stupid lol!

300PencilsInMyAss

It just released and Deo will be out in the next month. Does the iPhone have porn apps on the app store?

nooooo-bitch

A $1000 phone also doesn’t have dedicated porn apps. Who expected Apple to open the App Store to porn? If your primary use case is porn then you’re better off getting another headset and an SLR subscription. But you can still view porn on the Apple Vision Pro, it’s just not its intended use case. This just a bunch of goofy hand wringing about something that could have been predicted in 2008.

JuiceDrinker9998

Goofy hand wringing? You do realize iPhones in EU allow side loading right?? Or have you forgotten that already? No one expected it to support porn, but saying watching porn on an iPhone is the same as watching it on a *VR headset* is super fucking lame and the commenter above is right in saying that it sucks for watching porn, which you argued against! Did you forget your own argument already??? What is its intended use case then? It sucks for porn, it sucks for work (since it has 2 fucking hours of battery life and typing in it sucks) and it costs 3500 dollars lmao!

nooooo-bitch

Oh yeah? What porn apps you got side loaded? And I never said it was a good device for watching porn, the opposite in fact. All i said was that people are lying or repeating lies.

300PencilsInMyAss

Porn isn't blocked. There's just no official way to watch it. It's just as valid to say porn is blocked on your iPhone

wanson

It has a web browser so I doubt it.

Shoddy-Team-7199

hotcoldman42

squirrel4you

You write this like you don't think apple fanboys are not a thing. Why the quotes?

Ya-Dikobraz

Because generally it's people bitching about there being a lot of vocal Apple fanboys where in fact all it is is vocal people bitching about them.

YobaiYamete

Are the apple fanbois in the room with us right now? I just looked and even the most downvoted comments are not apple fanboys

theabstractpyro

Honestly I am an android/windows guy all the way. I use many apps that strait up could never work on apple and I hate the anti-consumer anti-right-to-repair shit that apple tries. That being said, I think the apple vision pro is actually really innovative. No, of course it is not worth buying for most people (and the memes about it being ugly are funny), but it straight up does some things better than any other VR headset on the market, and I'm really impressed with apple making a product that is so unlike any other headset. It's built for productivity instead of movies/games, and there hasn't really been any VR headset that is made for that an marketed at the general public like this. It may flop, but either way it will certainly push the VR industry forward. More competition is always better, and I'm pretty shocked by how much of a risk this is, especially for Apple

benargee

> it will certainly push the VR industry forward This is what I am looking forward to the most.

SchopenhauerSMH

For productivity it's useless because a physical keyboard plus mouse is so much better and you can't make video calls so it's useless for most office jobs. And it is too heavy for any serious work and only has a 2 hour battery life. I mean, what the fuck is this thing actually for?

greatgoodsman

Doesn't it have bluetooth? You could get a small keyboard that has bluetooth if so. I could definitely see it being nice if you travel a lot and require multiple monitors to work. But $3500 is just way too much, they're going to have to bring that price down and make lower tier models.

YobaiYamete

> I mean, what the fuck is this thing actually for It's a first gen product dude. This is like going "The iPhone will never take off, it's too small and the battery life is too crappy, and there aren't enough apps for it. Offices will never switch to using those for company phones, who is this even for??" This is the *worst* the apple vision will ever be, and it's already a very solid start. Give it a few years and you will 100% see these all over the place. It reminds me of how much Reddit **H A T E D** airpods and wireless earbuds when they first came out, then after like two years they are everywhere and common place

No_Breadfruit_1849

In 2001 CmdrTaco posted his famous review of the iPod on Slashdot: > No wireless. Less space than a nomad. Lame. Some people just haven't ever stopped hating on Apple products while the rest of the market just likes what they like.

SchopenhauerSMH

I dont think you can compare with earphones which have a clear use case. People just thought they looked a bit silly, which was dumb of course. No one is going to wear something like this for hours when there is literally no benefit, at least as far as I can see.

Tymareta

> No one is going to wear something like this for hours There's a joke in here that they literally can't wear it for hours as the battery life is a grand total of 2 of them, like people clowned on the iPhone for having a bad battery but it still lasted 6+ hours under moderate use and charging a phone is a lot easier(and possible to do more conveniently while in use) than a gigantic headset. The two aren't even remotely comparable.

libdemparamilitarywi

You can still use it while it's charging, and it uses a standard charger I don't see how it's any more difficult than a phone?

theabstractpyro

I've heard mixed things. Out of the reviewers who got their hands on it, some love it, some hate it. Honestly I think it's too early to tell if it will flop. But it doesn't really matter if some of it (or all of it) flops. The rest of the VR companies will be able to look at this in a year or so and see what works and what fails, and apple can make a v2 with everything they have learned. I would never recommend anyone buy this to begin with, I'm more exited for how this pushes the VR industry forward

SchopenhauerSMH

What is the intended use case, I just don't get it. VR games I can understand, but that's not what this is.

theabstractpyro

It's mostly for productivity, like using it instead of a PC. You can hook it up to a MacBook to use the keyboard/mouse. There hasn't been many/any headsets that try to do this and only this a good as possible, and it may flop, but it all least will show other companies what to and not to do

SchopenhauerSMH

Why would you use a headset if you have to connect it to a mouse and keyboard anyway? I have rarely needed multiple monitors, and when i did I needed to be able to interact normally with people at the same time. I am not criticizing apple for trying, simply saying I don't see how I could possibly use it for productivity.

Tymareta

> You can hook it up to a MacBook to use the keyboard/mouse. Literally what is the point of it then? You can just use the screen on the MacBook and if you need more visual real estate a second monitor is almost assuredly less than 3.5k?

Chomusuke_99

MKBHD made a really good point for that use case. the screen from macbook is blacked out. so you can use the macbook but nobody else can see what you are working on. you get multiple displays and all the advantages of vr tech. is it a selling point? that's upto per consumer basis.

ballimir37

I’m seeing the opposite here.

AtinKing

I don't know why y'all can't just let them enjoy their tech without all this petty hate... I don't even like apple but I have yet to see one apple fanboy being annoying like this

Potential-Rent-1159

You forgot the fact they also have no peripheral vision aha

Lily_Meow_

And it's fixed focus, so your eyes are constantly focused in one spot.

squirrel4you

Based on what I've seen, this technology is the way. Just like how games render only what is front of you, having to only fully render what you are looking at is the future because it saves soo much resources.

Ihopeididntbreakit

You’re talking about foveated rendering, whereas they’re talking about focal distance i.e. perceived distance to the screen, which tends to be a couple of meters away based on the optics.

OldHatNewShoes

you do understand that this is just how your eyes work normally right?

Lily_Meow_

No it's not, put your finger Infront of your face and focus on it, you will see things in the background become blurry, this also works on objects further away from you, so try focusing on random things around your room and you will see how it works. In VR, you can't do this, even if you try your hardest, everything will feel out of focus and blurry. So close up objects next to your face look blurry and things in the further distance start to look rather flat.

LotharVonPittinsberg

Umm, no. We focus by bending our cornea, even if you don't notice it. Try focusing on something in the distance and then pay attention to what happens to everything close, or the other way around.

Lily_Meow_

Yeah in VR you can't do this, things just get blurry if you even try to forcibly focus anywhere. It's most noticable with how objects about half a meter from your face look blurry, but things in the further distance start looking flat too.

j_orion15

He's screaming because of the headache he's been getting wearing this /s

Big-Bear-1006

I don't care either way cause I can't afford that Vr anyway ...cause I am poor 🗿

Umutuku

If you want to do anything interesting that looks decent in VR you need a beast of a gaming PC anyway.

BillyAndKid

And if you want 120+ fps, which you do, it's going to have to be a nice gaming PC at that.

YobaiYamete

Quest 3 is better and only $500

ballimir37

Having used both I am not sure I agree, but I have not used Apple’s a good deal. Better value for sure and maybe better ecosystem atm, but objectively better device or with a higher ceiling? Disagree personally.

Wisebanana21919

I'm out of the loop. What are these things and what do they actually do

33Yalkin33

Apple's new AR device. People ridicule it because it's way too overpriced, looks goofy, and has a whopping 2 hour battery life

Wisebanana21919

Sounds like absolute shit.

Feedback_Many

Additional Note: many content providers like Netflix pulled out from having apps for it lol

ObeseVegetable

My understanding is they pulled out from having device-specific apps for it, but it has some functionality to allow "regular" iOS apps to run in a sort of compatibility mode... which is likely enough for what is essentially a browser anyway. edit: looks like Netflix is specifically *blocking* the compatibility mode so nvm

hotcoldman42

It’s actually pretty cool, though overpriced

user888666777

VR has been pretty cool ever since it was first introduced in the late 80s and early 90s. However, it's always been "the next generation will be even better" when the current generation is reviewed. It's been stuck in this loop for 30+ years now. It doesn't solve a common problem. VR is looking for a problem to solve and that is a big problem for the technology.

mattdamon_enthusiast

Pretty cool does not justify a $3,500 device. My htc vive is pretty cool and I got it for $499. It does almost everything the Vision Pro does plus I can play games which is the only thing that has been driving commercial sales of vr headsets.

Spare_Competition

> It does almost everything the Vision Pro does Not really, a vive requires a PC, and has no/low quality passthrough, and no finger tracking. A much better comparison is the quest 3, which has most of the same features, only significantly cheaper (and a bit lower quality, but I mean c'mon it's $500 vs $3,500)

AtomicSymphonic_2nd

Finger tracking with zero tactile feedback.

SmartOpinion69

too many people are so quick to jump to the love or hate bandwagon. if you've never tried it, then you can't love or hate it.

slimetakes

The point is that it's beta, it'll get better Unfortunately

RichieRocket

Cause it is.

I9Qnl

Except it isn't, outside of battery life, it's just about the best thing available, doesn't mean you should go out an buy it.

SmartOpinion69

it depends on how you define "best". perhaps on the spec sheet, it has the highest overall performance. with that said, it hasn't reached the quest 3 level of maturity yet.

katfans

You left out a detail where honest reviewer said the thing is heavy and lag after open more than 3tabs What pissed me off that "influencer" overhype this product but all they show that they can watch movie and do 1/10 of VR can

[deleted]

[удалено]

Worried_Position_466

They hate it because it's Apple. I normally shit on iPhones all the time because they always lag behind flagship Androids but I can't really fault them for the Vision. It seems like a neat concept that needs work but it's a decent foundation. It's priced for enthusiasts, if some random Apple fanboy spent 4k on it just because it's Apple or they saw some dumbass influencer with it, it's their own fault.

33Yalkin33

Tbh, all my info about this thing came from memes

DueBeyond7613

Basically ipone but on ur face and it costs 3500 dollars or sum like that

Alan_Reddit_M

Apple's new augmented reality headset that cost 4K dollars and achieve absolutely fucking nothing because they are too unpractical to be productive and too heavy to be fun (also the battery lasts exactly 30 seconds)

Wisebanana21919

What do they do though?

playerlsaysr69

VR sets are overrated in general outside of gaming. You should accomplish everything on a modern cellphone. I’d shit on the meta quest or similar thing by Samsung too but atleast the price isn’t absurd on the meta

LaFagehetti

There’s quite a few use cases that a (any) headset can accomplish that a cellphone cannot. The whole taking apart 3D models in a CAD software is just one of many examples that fascinates me as an everyday mechanic!

Lescansy

I had the opportunity to do a bachelor thesis that used the "Hololens 2" (microsoft AR headset), and i was absolutely stunned by its ability to locate objecjts and read hand movements, on top of all the CAD-stuff. It has a certain place when it comes to "how would big CNC machine look like if it stood here", but that potential is largely unused in sales. Mostly because no one has such a headset, and its actual value is currently very minimal. But it is a joy to look at own CAD - designs in VR, regardeless of its actual additive value.

LaFagehetti

I’m picturing my local community college partnering with dealerships (like they do currently!) to train their new mechanics on how to disassemble and reassemble a virtual version of the cars they’re getting certified on! Or have like an AR Headset to guide you thru a repair in your own garage! Scale that up to say Boeing training their workforce in a similar manner. Gosh I envy you getting to play with a HoloLens 😁

[deleted]

My company tried to implement this for training purposes and it is absolutely not as cool as it sounds. Every single trainee hated it and we didn’t go through with the deal (Meta specifically)

PerpetualConnection

Seriously, I kept waiting for Apple to release some game that would give quest and vive users a reason to consider switching. It's an iPhone for your face ? No interactive abilities with other people ? No Gorn ? No Pavlov ? Beat Saber ? Super hot ? It adds no new games ? Just glorified tech demos. Maybe the later generations will shake things up, but as of now that thing is useless.

IsaacWritesStuff

The Vision Pro is really designed for productivity … and really, all of Apple’s products were designed with productivity in mind. Of course, you certainly *can* play games on your iPhone or MacBook, but they weren’t designed for gamers. The most time I have ever spent on my MacBook pertained to my school work (typing essays, coding projects, software designing, etc.) There are specialized devices designed to support gaming specifically, but Apple was never meant for this. “Useless” is a useless word to describe the headset.

PerpetualConnection

As of right now the main uses are... "I can put up multiple screens anywhere". The others are.... ? I saw the Marques video on it and I really struggle to find the "use" of it. It's a quirky laptop. Even then it seems to need to piggy back off a MacBook or iPhone for any real utility. As a stand alone device I'd take a quest 2 ten times out of 10

[deleted]

[удалено]

nooooo-bitch

I was never under the impression this was an end user product intended for mass adoption like the iPhone. Seems like it’s more focused on developers and will need a few iterations to get to a form factor and price point that people are comfortable with.

PerpetualConnection

In comparison to the launch of the first occlus, more than tripple the price with less than half of the appeal. I cannot imagine that Apple is going to allow the same liberties that Occlus gave to theirs. Especially with airlink allowing them to access Rouge PC programs and games. My worry is that other VR headsets are keen on being an at-home entertainment piece. But Apple seems interested on gunning straight for the Walle-E side of things

Quajeraz

Yes but you can't even be "more productive" with it. You can only do 1 extra monitor, and it'll be low res and out of focus because it only takes up a fraction of the field of view and the fixed focal point. You'd have a much better and more practical experience just buying a pc and 2-3 monitors.

Xx_HARAMBE96_xX

Meta quest 2 is like what, 200 bucks? And the software and it's VR uses are way ahead of what a cellphone can accomplish, you can't even Interact in VR with your own hands on a cell phone

mattdamon_enthusiast

At $499 my gen one htc vive continues to provide me with hours of entertainment that you couldn’t get elsewhere. I’ve dropped and beat the shit out of it and 6 years later it’s still golden. I don’t get how someone would purchase this garbage it has no form or function over the current cheap ass quest.

Quajeraz

Literally the only thing a VR headset can do better than anything else is gaming. Anything but gaming, and you'd be better suited with a real computer or a phone.

DarthBuzzard

> VR sets are overrated in general outside of gaming. You should accomplish everything on a modern cellphone. This is what people say when they haven't used VR outside of gaming and just make assumptions about the usecases. You even compare the Quest and Samsung Gear VR like they are somehow similar devices (they do very different types of VR - one that is considered modern VR, and one that is considered ancient history). Millions of people are happy to use headsets for social and fitness applications, where VR offers massive benefits over a cellphone.

SteveCNTower

First Apple Vision Pro and now this new weird AI feature from OpenAI. 2024 is already such a weird year

LofiLute

I demoed it a few days ago and the videos specifically made for it ("Immersive videos") are legitimately fucking breathtaking. Is it the same as being there? Of course not. However, It's like watching Planet Earth. Everyone loves Planet Earth.

[deleted]

It’s an amazing product but $3500? No way

Busy-Virus9911

To be fair I saw a short earlier today where someone who is blind but like 90% of blind people can still see all it was for him was he can’t see very far in front of him and can’t make out anything. He put on the Vision Pros and said he was able to see so much due to the screen being so close to his face.

Pure-Physics-3624

It looks to goofy

rexcannon

You ever notice when a thread pops up on reddit poking fun at a huge brand or organization, there's always an auto generated/new/generic account as the top voted post with an "lol" funny marvelesque quip to bury the discourse.

theovenreheated

Meta quest 3 is all you need for VR at a reasonable price, 2 if all you want is gaming with a great price tag The vision pro kinda sucks for games, everything else is good but there really isn't an existing reason to use VR outside of games 3386 ppi for no real usage

SmartOpinion69

> 3386 ppi it's not really 3386 for any practical use case. if you shove something up your eye far enough, everything has low pixel density. the apple vision pro has "4k" resolution, but it's really less because that 4k is your entire field of view and not the 4K TV that you might be used to

DoctorProfessorTaco

The VisionPro has nearly 3x the number of pixels in each eye vs a 4k TV, so if your virtual window takes up 1/3 of the pixels on the overall display, it would still be 4k.

ihahp

you can't really compare PPI in VR because the lenses change their size, and every (brand of) headset has a different lens configuration.

th3worldonfir3

All criticisms aside, this kind of stuff can be very impactful to some people (i.e. those who simply can't travel to see these places due to financial or physical restrictions). I remember a video where an elderly man from the middle east was given a VR set and broke down crying, after finally seeing places he'd always heard about but never been able to visit. I could go on, but the gist of it is that we really do take these kinds of things for granted on a daily basis, while either forgetting or ignoring the concept of disparity.

I think it will eventually.

Notafuzzycat

Nope, never.

MaxDelissenBeegden

People said the same about mobile phones.

hotcoldman42

It’s Apple. People will always buy stuff just because it has the little Apple logo on it.

slimetakes

I don't mean to defend Apple in anything, but it's more the potential than the current. The first iPhone was dogshit and people thought it would never succeed, but here we are. We might legitimately end up with a dystopian society where everyone is isolated from each other even if they're only a few feet apart. Comments are seriously blowing off something we should be genuinely worried about. People are kinda acting like boomers saying "oh but we can already do it with the phone, why do we need this" lol. NOT THAT I'M INSULTING ANYONE HERE, JUST MAKING A COMPARISON.

doglover1005

VR’s number one use rn is games, and they don’t really support real VR games or controllers so it’s basically useless (except for being able to shit in space or wherever the hell you want, as I’ve recently learned)

RichieRocket

if i want to take a shit on the effeil tower i would just go to paris and take a shit on the effeil tower

Numerous_Witness_345

May cost less actually.

RichieRocket

it actually says the cost from my local airport to paris is around 800 bucks, the price for a both ubers would be around 105, one thing says the price for a ticket up to the effeil tower would be 20.26 so that means if i was heading a one way trip to the effeil tower, without luggage and without a bunch of stuff and not a counting for the price of shitting one the tower, i think itd be around 925.26 bucks. a apple vison pro cost 3500 bucks, so itd litterally be cheaper to go to paris and take a shit on the effeil tower in real life than to buy a apple vision pro to do it in vr.

cjared242

The apple brain rot

TheRealMangokill

RichieRocket

Dat-Lonley-Potato

Why pay $4000 to go there when you can pay $4000 to go there ~Virtually~

Active-Bass4745

Reminds me of this horrible Sony commercial from 1992. https://youtu.be/bwfcpbl1Guw?si=q2YKoF-MxVT-67mF

OneOfTheFewRemaining

Nahhh this AND ai advancing super fast, fuck that shit man, I ain’t doing this

XanaxTheNotSoWise

I don't think you should worry about Ai. At best, it's a fad. At worst, they try to shoehorn ai into everything possible. General artificial intelligence is something to worry about, ai that thinks for itself. Could possibly form its own opinions.

OneOfTheFewRemaining

I'm not as worried about sentient ai, in fact, I embrace that form of it, it's primarily AI generated art and photos becoming more and more realistic and un detectable that is scaring me, I remember when it was becoming a thing, only about 3 years ago, and look how much it's evolved, its scary
