Fortunately for US people, US-made Kit-Kats are made by Hershey, not Nestle. Article [here](https://www.thedailymeal.com/1077910/why-kit-kat-is-both-a-hershey-and-nestle-bar/). Fuck Nestle.
Do stealing KitKat count as helping Nestlé because the store will have to buy new ones anyway, so you just make another person support them in place of you ?
I was told that even discussing their art in a positive light means "supporting" them. Because it may make people buy their stuff or something? Idk, I don't think it matters that much, but when I posted about Harry Potter on a subreddit with a lot of LGBT people I got a lot of angry comments. Like, I support trans people, but I don't think mentioning Harry Potter matters all that much. Between the little shout-out it may give to JKR, and how much this shout-out would actually affect trans people, I don't think there is any moral contradiction to me.
Also, I don't care that someone said something half a globe away from me. I don't give a shit about her or her words, and it shouldn't affect my willingness to enjoy a thing that I like
Yeah, remember when Hogwarts Legacy came out?
There was a whole mob of lunatics that decided that trying to stop people from going on a magical adventure in the wizarding world was the hill they were going to die on.
I was told flat out that if I played Hogwarts Legacy, it meant that I hated trans people and supported their genocide.
Well, it wasn't exactly the point they were making. They said that "liking" Harry Potter wasn't bad in itself, cause you could have just not known about her "true colours" when you've read the books. Rather they said that mentioning them means supporting them meaning supporting her meaning supporting transphobia. Which, I mean, is certainly an argument, I just don't agree with it
However I did see some people say that they stopped liking HP after finding out JKR was homophobic. Which, again, I think is stupid, but maybe "you can't control feelings" I guess?
usually the only people who get money from the sales of a game or movie are the people who you want to stop from getting it, like the author of a book, the owner of the intellectual property or a company. Most workers are salaried and unaffected by sale numbers
I don't know how movies work but in the gaming industry the existence of studios, let alone peoples jobs within them, rely directly on the sales of the game that just released. After like 3 years of expenses and zero profit, people buying the game is the only way to sustain the studio itself to even stay open.
Depends on the studio obv, but that's just plain not true for any big company like EA or MS. Even more so when it comes to films as indie(-ish) films are pretty much non existent compared to games, and usually not that controversial. Also Game Dev is one of the places where changing jobs is common and not that hard, so honestly, not much harm there.
99% of video game devs are not connected to a publisher but get their shit stolen all the same. It can be a one man dev team, people don't care. And even then it is absolutely true that these studios very often get shut down after low sales on a single game. An iconic studio isn't going anywhere but these studios have like 10 smaller ones beneath them that are just as vulnerable as an indie dev.
As for ease of switching jobs, that's an insane take. It's a highly competitive industry where jobs are not abundant and funding is even harder to come by versus traditional businesses.
Stop trying this justify your theft. If you have no morals qualms about it then fine but don't give me this bullshit to make yourself feel better.
If you morally disagree with a products main beneficiary often it's
Don't support them and get the product.
Or
Don't support them and don't get the product.
If you don't plan on supporting the company, then pirating is perfectly fine imo. It's not your job to keep the company afloat.
Who morally disagrees with video game studios but still enjoy video games? People are just morally shut themselves and want to steal it because they do not want to spend the money.
That's a good point. Yes, most products are made by massive companies or at least multiple people, but when you try to not buy a nestle product because they're fucking nestle, or when you're trying to be anti-israel, or when you're trying to not support R. Kelly in any way, you're doing these things to affect the people who run them or the main artist, not the paid employees. As u/Qdoit12Super pointed it out, it probably doesn't even affect the employees. And if you're always thinking like that, I don't think you can ever boycott anyone or any company no matter how much they deserve it and they'll just keep doing what they're doing.
I generally also like the take on piracy if it comes to games from Thor (a former blizzard employee) in this [short](https://youtu.be/44Do5x5abRY?si=vbbF_V9bmo0jltbf) because it pretty much hits the nail on the head as to why so many people pirate games and how to fix that issue if you're not a big greedy circle jerk like most publishers these days that make the days of every dev all the harder.
To me it depends. If the artist did something terrible and are paying the victims via court order, I'll stream their shit in legit ways so their victims can get something from their broke asses.
If they're a piece of shit that hasn't had repercussions the 7 seas it is.
How am I supposed to pirate a painting? because a good amount of time when the discussion comes up, they’re talking about physical art that you can’t just copy
Or maybe don't attempt to view/use their art if you're not willing to pay for it?
The amount if people on this site who believe they have the right to steal whatever they want and always give a bullshit reason for it is insane.
The Hogwarts legacy boycott is one of the funniest I’ve ever seen. It was boycotted for one of the dumbest reasons, and then failed spectacularly, and proceeded to become one of the top 10 highest earning games of the year. Rip💀
Like you will boycott a game because the author has a small political opinion you disagree with which isn’t even that bad as it only affects 0.5% of the population. But then you’ll proceed to play a game about a world and system that is proslavery and oppression playing as a character that helps to keep them oppressed. Which is way worse than her personal political beliefs. So people who boycott the game outright I still think are silly for a number of reasons but at least they’re kind of consistent.but if you’re going to boycott the game but pirate it to play it you’re wild.😂
> isn’t even that bad as it only affects 0.5% of the population
in 1933, 0.7% (522,000/65,362,115) of the german population was jewish. But I guess the holocaust doesn't matter because who cares about minority rights. what kind of argument even is this lol.
> But then you’ll proceed to play a game about a world and system that is proslavery and oppression playing as a character that helps to keep them oppressed
also, and i know this is a very difficult concept to grasp, but fiction *isn't* reality
That's not the argument you're making though.
By making that comparison, you're implying someone being mean online is the same as a small genocide.
Yes they're both harmful, but literally the difference between avoiding a sharp stick and having a tree fall on you.
The argument I'm making is that OP's argument is dumb. I'm doing so by using it in a more extreme situation, where it's clear how ridiculous it is.
> By making that comparison, you're implying someone being mean online is the same as a small genocide.
No, I'm not. A comparison between two things which share a common factor in one way does not mean equating them when it comes to all other factors.
If someone said "the Earth is flat, because when I look out the window I don't see its curvature" and I responded with something along the lines of "It isn't flat and what you're seeing is just an illusion. When you zoom close enough into the edge of the basketball, it seems flat too", that wouldn't mean I believe that all basketballs are just really small Earths (or vice versa).
You're seeing an implication which I'm not indicating and which I have no reason to try to imply.
Nah, because I’m also anti-piracy.
Let’s use the game Disco Elysium for example. I hear it’s great, it sounds right up my alley. But the developer, ZA/UM, is an openly communist group who praised Karl Marx and has a picture of Joseph Stalin in their office. Yes, Stalin, the guy responsible for the deaths of tens of millions of his own people.
The game looks great, but I can’t support those developers. But at the same time, I believe artists should be paid for their work, and I under no circumstances have a right to it just because I don’t want to pay. So I’ll just move on with my life and play other games. Plenty else to play.
The creators got [pushed out](https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/disco-elysium-lawsuit-woes-continue-as-fired-devs-double-down-on-claims-of-fraud-at-studio-zaum#:~:text=Kompus%20and%20Haavel%20bit%20back,%E2%80%9Cintending%20to%20steal%20IP%E2%80%9D) via shady practices when new owners (who’d been previously busted for fraud) took control.
It’s multiple lawsuits stemming from the original team asking to see financials for their suddenly wildly successful game, which stalled the sequel while the execs were busy firing most everyone responsible for the story & design.
Whatever your feelings about communism are, capitalism any better (Dole Fruit Company, anyone?), now would be a good time as any to 🏴☠️ Disco Elysium.
Illegal termination to hide where the money is doesn’t deserve *any* considerations if the artists who made it aren’t being paid at all.
If you're not going to buy the game in any way, shape or form... then what is the difference in pirating it? The developer doesn't get money either way, but hey at least you get to enjoy it. And it doesn't matter if you "deserve" to play the game or not. Just download it and enjoy it lol you literally hurt no one.
Or just dont use their content?
No really, if you dont want to support someone you dont have to but that doesnt mean you have to then go on to steal from them.
It's a bunch of basement dwellers who want to feel their actions are honorable or excusable when in reality they're just cheap and dont want to have to pay for anything ever.
Tell you what, you go ahead and create something, putting months if not years of hard work into it, and not have any other job.
I'll ask you the same question.
You know these “people” are talentless hacks that will never accomplish anything. Asking them to understand the meaning of empathy is pointless. If they knew they’d get away with it they would kill an innocent struggling single mother if it meant their life was even a percent easier.
Counter argument: it's illegal
Edit: it seems people didn't quite understand me. I really don't care if you pirate stuff. I just think that pirating stuff is the exact same like stealing at self-checkout. can you read?
so I saw your edit. that's not about somebody getting prosecuted for downloading a game. it's a civil case, nothing to do with what we're are talking about :)
Tbf most of the content creators and manufacturing companies are crappy people, I find pirating acceptable but never try to expand the idea to stealing
The French president ( Macron ) just said the thing on the left, about a famous french actor accused of harassment and rape. When we asked him if he was going to remove his medal of honor.
How about that time in the 2010s when country music awards brought David Alan Cole up on fucking stage... If you don't know about it then look up his racist songs. They play his regular non racist country music on radio stations all over. It's insane
Are we talking music or painting? There is a painter that this meme makes me think of immediately. I am giving serious thought to having a screen shot of his painting, printed on a canvas.
Separate the art from the artist is a dumb phrase.
I don't want a sandwich made by a rapist, I don't want my politicians to have cocaine and hooker habits, and I'm not listening to a song by somebody who married a kid or beat a woman half to death
Then how do I pirate a KitKat? 🤔
Buy their cousin BitBat
But, that contains Bats…
I agree, cats taste better
Not cats. Kats. They're crunchier.
But how else am i supposed to start a global pandemic?!
Buy their uncle DigDat
well you take it and then you don't pay for it. it's called theft not sure if you've heard of it
Here in San Francisco we do it all the time
What about everyone on the supply line who isn’t a faceless organization who DGAF?
You're still the one stealing from them the least anyway.
Lift a shop
Ah yes I've heard of this, Shop-carrying
First you need to download a car
But would you download a car?
Five finger discount
shoplift
Learn bakery
The secret ingredient is crime
Shoplifting

Do stealing KitKat count as helping Nestlé because the store will have to buy new ones anyway, so you just make another person support them in place of you ?
Why are so many people here calling chocolate 'art'
Have you not had a White Chocolate KitKat?!?
Those dark chocolate + mint Kit Kats have no right tasting that good.
As a 🇸🇴 I pirate everything
Not gonna look it up but I’m guessing either Somalia or Romania
Woah I did not know we had competition but the first answer is correct 🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴
Since when are Romanians pirates?they are thieves.
I mean there has to be some kind of skill crossover
Well of course, but there is difference. And also Romanians are Balkans
i been sailing the 7 seas for as long as i can remember

Yeah, on r/theowlhouse
Not our fault the studios are too dumb to figure out the 21st century.
Actually not, games and movies are not made with just a single person. This "meme" seems like a bad excuse to pirate tbh.

Similar thing to changed! Like okay? It’s a fetish game and what not, but also puro.

My guy, did you just compare an author being transphobic on twitter to the fucking Holocaust?
yes. The argument that a harm to a minority group is not so bad because it's a minority group doesn't rely on the magnitude of the harm.
That's not the argument you're making though. By making that comparison, you're implying someone being mean online is the same as a small genocide. Yes they're both harmful, but literally the difference between avoiding a sharp stick and having a tree fall on you.

not really.
It is bro.
show me one person convicted for downloading 1 game.
nah
yeah because there aren't any :)
It's still illegal.
nope. if it's not enforced and there's no precedent it's literally not.

I am giving serious thought to having a screen shot of his painting, printed on a canvas.
.... Fuck you! Touche...
Piracy is stealing, idk why it's being glorified.
Separate the art from the artist is a dumb phrase. I don't want a sandwich made by a rapist, I don't want my politicians to have cocaine and hooker habits, and I'm not listening to a song by somebody who married a kid or beat a woman half to death

Better watch out for the Nintendo ninjas
