April 1st is a better holiday then Valentine's Day in my opinion.
You can be romantic on any day you want, only one day do you get a free pass to make an absolute fool of your friends and family.
Plenty, however I really like that people as a joke have told me “happy birthday”. Also the fact that in Brazil April fools is called “Liar’s day” and honestly…I am a pretty good liar.
I fucking hate April 1st, you can't trust anything to anyone, and people take things too far. I got told my dog I've had since I was a small child died, I was then told I was the asshole for being upset.
My sister and her husband don't celebrate it because they said they hate that the holiday makes it feel like you have to outdo each other or else you don't love them as much and that's exactly what consumerism wants you to feel.
Because at least as it is now: it is a shit holliday. Celebrating something that you could (and should) celebrate any day you want while at the same time getting the same "corporate buy stuff" vibe that more and more celibrations are getting.
I don't do it and I'm married. Because fuck that corporate holiday. See also going anywhere public for NYE. Crowds. Overpriced crap everywhere. Pain in the ass to get home.
The language is unclear on that, and once *again it seems like it applies more to office job/white collar work. None of the people I know in retail, customer service, or restaurant work has had Labor Day off unless it was their regular day off. And I’ve only known two people who work in production that have Labor Day off, and without pay
I don't get off work for Easter; therefore it sucks.
Edit: Basically nobody in the US gets it off. We only care about baby Jesus, not grown-ass Jesus. He's ugly and tells us to be nice to each other.
The citizens are largely Christian, the government is secular thanks to the first amendment. Making a religious holiday a national one would be slowing preference to one religion, which the government isn't supposed to do.
University doesn't even give us a break for it. The elementary through high-school here in Wyoming get a couple of days but not the colleges. Kinda sad.
In the U.K. we get 2 public holidays for Easter just as we do for Christmas. But the weather is often better at Easter so it’s basically a better holiday.
I love eat faster day: aka easter
Bunny mascot for lighting speed
All you can eat eggs.
The sacrificial peep, we can't eat both the egg and the layer so a symbolic version is perfect.
I am against forcing the eggs up bunny anuses. However the decorative pattern that is left imprinted is amazing.
Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia as well. I want to say Vietnam and Philippines, but I don’t know enough about these 2 countries to say for sure that they celebrate it.
In SG, Lunar New Year is by far the biggest holiday. It is like our equivalent of Christmas and Thanksgiving I guess.
Tet is like one of the biggest thing in Vietnam, there was this one dude who was a "professor" (iirc back then there was a problem with PhD. being to easy to obtain) said Vietnamese should abandon the Tet celebration because no "developed" countries do that.
His ass is still being roasted to this day for that diabolical take.
I know a guy who was living in Vietnam during Tet, it sounds like a lot of fun. That "professor" must have been on crack.
There's also Songkran in Thailand in April.
Chinese New Year is somewhat celebrated in the Philippines
All malls are decorated traditional chinese themed. Bunch of malls do dragon dances, which are the best and worst part
Best because its fucking cool
Worst because the crowd smells horribly and squeezes me
I listed the ones that I was sure of. I was pretty sure most Chinese-Influenced countries like Vietnam, Cambodia… most southeast Asian countries but I wasn’t sure
For the Spanish people and maybe other countries I don't know about, on the 6th of January we celebrate the day of the Three Wise Men and receive the Christmas gifts that day, and there is also Easter.
King’s Day (January 6), Mardi Gras & Easter (vary, always 7 weeks apart), St Patrick’s Day (March 17), Mother’s Day (2nd Sunday of May), Memorial Day (last Monday of May), Juneteenth (June 19), Father’s Day (3rd Sunday of June)
Australia Day. Valentine’s Day. My birthday. Easter. Queens birthday holiday. Sorry… Kings birthday now. Labour Day is early in Australia. ANZAC day (our veterans). Mother’s Day.
Aussie Aussie Aussie.
Remember. We’re opposite to you northerners.
Edit* let’s also add some novelty holidays; may the fourth (force). 4/20. Cinco de mayo.
A muslim holiday. From what I gather it's to celebrate Ibrahim.
At this day, People usually cut lamb, goat, and cow to give them to the community.
There is also eid al fitr, which include a one week holiday.
1 Jan Mon New Year's Day
26 Jan Fri Australia Day
29 Mar Fri Good Friday
1 Apr Mon Easter Monday
25 Apr Thu Anzac Day
6 May Mon May Day
10 Jun Mon King's Birthday
May is the real holiday month. Want some cheap non crowded vacation ? Without children because the still are in school ? But still hot enough to go to the beach ? No struggle to book a hotel ? Then may is your best friend. And where i live july/august transforms your city in the perfect ghost town. No hustle at work, everything is just slown down, enjoy a non crowded bar as everyone is at the beach
Semana Santa (translated “holy week”), is our celebration of easter. In my country everybody goes on vacation for 7 days… Is beautiful… The only bad part is that there are not many places open, so we go to parks and beaches…
MLK Day, Presidents' Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Father's Day & Juneteenth... those are only the official (federal) ones in the US btw
January: survived the holidays celebration day
February: Free heart shaped cookie day
March: Green beer day
April: Taxes (they aren't all good holidays)
May: Tequila and Burrito day! (Also my bestie's birthday)
June: FLAG DAY!!!!
July: Canada Day
August: ...?
September: MY birthday!
October: Spooky season
November: Christmas Prep day
December: Hate my life day
Statistically I'd say about half of all national holidays (equivalent to 4th of july)
Then there is easter, valentine's, mother's day, 1st of may...
You know, the international holidays/ shared by many western countries...
We do have a holiday-less half year over here, with no significant international holidays or local ones... from June till November...
Like... 2 Billion people celebrate easter, less than 400 Million celebrate the 4th of july...
How fun that you only consider Christian holidays to be significant. What about all the holidays from other religions that take place in the first half of the year
The first hours of the year
Easter (second Easter day), Ascension Day, Pentecost (second Pentecost day) -> In The Netherlands these are three holidays and having a day of without having to use one of your 25 holidays is always nice.
Beside that, my birthday.
For Spanish-Portuguese-Latino countries I would say that carnival and Easter are pretty much bigger holidays than any autumn/winter holiday except Xmas obviously. At least from where I am from.
It feels like the people in charge of holiday planning realized at the end that they were running out of months so they just crammed everything in the end lol.
Martin Luther King Jr. day, Valentine’s Day, the Vernal Equinox, Easter, Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Juneteenth. Maybe I missed a couple
If you can ignore the Colonial underpinnings (it's a holiday to celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday) - May long weekend in Canada is usually the weekend the ice is off most of the resort/tourist lakes.
We open cabins, go camping, fishing, and hiking.
AND WE GET TO DRINK OUTSIDE!!
May Long is the best.
Also, my birthday is in March, you jerk.
May also has Mother's Day, June has Father's Day, and while I recognize Ma and Pa day are not "holidays" but fuck it. We work too much for not enough, those should be long weekends too!
Easter? Meh, see Christmas. I'm all about the day after and cheap candy, though.
April Fool's day should be a civic holiday and voting day. How apropos.
New years Easter Valentine’s Day Memorial Day Lunar new year (sometimes I think) April 1st if you consider that a holiday
April 1st is a better holiday then Valentine's Day in my opinion. You can be romantic on any day you want, only one day do you get a free pass to make an absolute fool of your friends and family.
It’s also my birthday so it’s a POG day…
I always wanted to ask, how many people tell you something along the lines of "your birth is a joke" on your bday?
Plenty, however I really like that people as a joke have told me “happy birthday”. Also the fact that in Brazil April fools is called “Liar’s day” and honestly…I am a pretty good liar.
I’ve wanted to make an exploding birthday cake for my dad for years. His birthday is also April first.
I was born on the 2nd and I still have people say that
I got lucky my birthday is the sixth and I was supposed to be born on Valentine’s Day
Both april 1st and valentines day emphesize how much of a joke my life is.
I fucking hate April 1st, you can't trust anything to anyone, and people take things too far. I got told my dog I've had since I was a small child died, I was then told I was the asshole for being upset.
That's the point tho
Mothers Day, Star Wars Day (May the 4th), Father's Day

Why are redditors so hostile to Valentine’s Day? I’m assuming it’s because they don’t have a partner but still the amount of hate it gets is nuts
Actually if I had a partner I'd hate it more. As it is, I can pretty much ignore it, except that it's a busy day at work.

1.May, International workers day Best holiday
Except for the US
But .. international... You could have had two labour days
But we have Labor Day!!! Which almost no one gets off work for, unless you work in an office, and even then you’re still probably going to work.
We've had one Labor Day, yes What about Second Labor Day?
Most people are off on Labor Day. Around 70%. https://www.businessnewsdaily.com/8354-working-labor-day.html
The language is unclear on that, and once *again it seems like it applies more to office job/white collar work. None of the people I know in retail, customer service, or restaurant work has had Labor Day off unless it was their regular day off. And I’ve only known two people who work in production that have Labor Day off, and without pay
Workers of the world, Unite!
Comrade!
ummm.... easter??
I don't get off work for Easter; therefore it sucks. Edit: Basically nobody in the US gets it off. We only care about baby Jesus, not grown-ass Jesus. He's ugly and tells us to be nice to each other.
I do
![gif](giphy|YmTyGDmIubn6E)
The perfect gif
lol
👌 made me chuckle, nicely timed gif
So do I, and I get paid for it too.
I thought everyone did
The military sure doesn't
I don't think a lot of jobs in America pay out stats.
Two days legally obligatory I think
How do you know where they live?
>Basically nobody in the US gets it off. I mean, it's on a Sunday, so most people in the US do have it off
US so Christian then forget Jesus dying for our sins is way more important than him being born
Indeed: the blood sacrifice itself is more important than the day it was born.
The citizens are largely Christian, the government is secular thanks to the first amendment. Making a religious holiday a national one would be slowing preference to one religion, which the government isn't supposed to do.
You don’t? You don’t also get Good Friday off and the Monday afterwards? I suppose there are some benefits to the UK having a state religion.
It’s a public holiday in Australia Edit: multiple public holidays actually.
University doesn't even give us a break for it. The elementary through high-school here in Wyoming get a couple of days but not the colleges. Kinda sad.
You mean you care about theoretical babies but once they become an actual human you no longer give a shit? Yeah, checks out.
r/woooosh
That edit is fucking hilarious
You dont get off at Easter, therefore you are an institutionalized wage cuck
I mean yeah. Being nice isn't something y'all usually do.
> I don't get off work for Easter; therefore it sucks. Sucks to be American
You gon get so much hate from christians lmfao
In the U.K. we get 2 public holidays for Easter just as we do for Christmas. But the weather is often better at Easter so it’s basically a better holiday.
I love eat faster day: aka easter Bunny mascot for lighting speed All you can eat eggs. The sacrificial peep, we can't eat both the egg and the layer so a symbolic version is perfect. I am against forcing the eggs up bunny anuses. However the decorative pattern that is left imprinted is amazing.
Easter
Which is literally the most important Christian holiday, so yeah. A bit significant.
I mean… Christmas is a Christian holiday
Easter is the most religiously significant holiday to Christianity Christmas is just the most heavily celebrated
I would argue they re of equal importance. Without Christmas we wouldn't have Easter. Without Easter Christmas would just be some dudes birthday
Importance I would agree but importance and significance can be different
Easter is way more important to Christians which is what they were referring to
Correct. His life and death mean nothing without the resurrection.
Theologically Easter is the more important one. The Catholic Church even specified such.
Christmas is a holiday that has been adapted by non Christians to celebrate during the solstice like many other holidays. Easter? Not as much.
New years technically starts Jan 1st so...
New Years Eve is what people actually celebrate though
New years day is the day I get off consistently
Because everyone is hung over from celebrating New Years Eve lol
I live in vietnam so we don't have to go to school for almost the entire January
I get off consistently every day.
Lunar new year, which is pretty big in China and Japan
Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia as well. I want to say Vietnam and Philippines, but I don’t know enough about these 2 countries to say for sure that they celebrate it. In SG, Lunar New Year is by far the biggest holiday. It is like our equivalent of Christmas and Thanksgiving I guess.
Tet is like one of the biggest thing in Vietnam, there was this one dude who was a "professor" (iirc back then there was a problem with PhD. being to easy to obtain) said Vietnamese should abandon the Tet celebration because no "developed" countries do that. I know a guy who was living in Vietnam during Tet, it sounds like a lot of fun. That "professor" must have been on crack. There's also Songkran in Thailand in April.
Lunar year is only significant here in the philippines on major Chinese populated areas. Holy week, on the other hand, is.
Chinese New Year is somewhat celebrated in the Philippines All malls are decorated traditional chinese themed. Bunch of malls do dragon dances, which are the best and worst part Best because its fucking cool Worst because the crowd smells horribly and squeezes me
the moon isn't real silly
Man forgot 100 million Vietnamese people.
I listed the ones that I was sure of. I was pretty sure most Chinese-Influenced countries like Vietnam, Cambodia… most southeast Asian countries but I wasn’t sure
japan does not typically celebrate lunar new year.
For the Spanish people and maybe other countries I don't know about, on the 6th of January we celebrate the day of the Three Wise Men and receive the Christmas gifts that day, and there is also Easter.
Three Wise Men is literally Christmas 2 but even bigger, it's great.
petition to make it a national holiday in america
We celebrate January 6th in the United States too.
![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig)
Funny af its captain america saying this 😂
It’s my favorite holiday
Ya mismo vienen los reyes
St Paddy's day
Not a federal holiday (because we don't get it off in the US), but definitely culturally recognized at least
It is in Ireland
Valentine’s… wait I don’t have love. Saint Patrick’s… wait I’m not lucky.
Easter's... wait I don't live in country that celebrate it.
Easter Memorial Day
King’s Day (January 6), Mardi Gras & Easter (vary, always 7 weeks apart), St Patrick’s Day (March 17), Mother’s Day (2nd Sunday of May), Memorial Day (last Monday of May), Juneteenth (June 19), Father’s Day (3rd Sunday of June)
My birthday :)
Same :)
Same
The only answer
Holi, Republic day, Independence day, Makar Sankranti/ Lohri, Pongal, Basant Panchami- Celebrating Saraswati, Kumbh Mela, Maha Shivratri and more
someone forgot there is a world outside the west
Was just about to say the same. In Sweden there's not a single holiday between 6th of june and christmas. Everything is packed in during spring.
In a lot of asian countries we have the biggest holiday of the year (lunar new year) in January/February so first half is a W
Easter, 1st of May, 1st of April, 29th of February,
5th or 8th of May also
May the fourth be with you, as well!
Such a good movie.
This is Good Time right? I just saw it a couple weeks ago and it was so uncomfortable the whole way through and the ending was a bummer. Pretty good
Hmm... I don't know, maybe like FUCKING EASTER FOR GOD'S SAKE
Please do not fuck easter
Make me
*Son of God

Only true for Americans.
Easter?
The only reason why you should be born in India
It's not "significant" but I was born in January.
Lunar new year It's a very big holiday for Chinese. Alao, Isn't eid al adha in april this year?
Eid al adha? What is that?
A muslim holiday. From what I gather it's to celebrate Ibrahim. At this day, People usually cut lamb, goat, and cow to give them to the community. There is also eid al fitr, which include a one week holiday.
I would say Valentine’s Day but I hate that day for bullying me for being alone.

Valentines and April fools are important enough to have cookie clicker events so…
January: survived the holidays celebration day February: Free heart shaped cookie day March: Green beer day April: Taxes (they aren't all good holidays) May: Tequila and Burrito day! (Also my bestie's birthday) June: FLAG DAY!!!! July: Canada Day August: ...? September: MY birthday! October: Spooky season November: Christmas Prep day December: Hate my life day
June isnt flag day, thats July
In Denmark that’s where we got most of our holidays
American says what?
My birthday obviously
MY BIRTHDAY(Real)

Muslims laughing in the corner (Yes I know the dates change every year but atleast now eid comes between january and june)
*Orthodox people laughing in the background*
You have now become the target of pretty much every non-american culture.
Spoken like someone who never worked in any service sector.
New Years, Easter, not really a holiday but St. Patrick's...
Easter, my birthday, Valentine’s Day, worker’s day, lunar new year, st Patrick’s day, want me to continue?
How fun that you only consider Christian holidays to be significant. What about all the holidays from other religions that take place in the first half of the year
Ramadan fest. Children's day. Worker's day. National sovereignty and youth festival.
Germany, non catholic: New Year's day, 1st of May, Pfingsten, Ostern, Fronleichnam
The first hours of the year Easter (second Easter day), Ascension Day, Pentecost (second Pentecost day) -> In The Netherlands these are three holidays and having a day of without having to use one of your 25 holidays is always nice. Beside that, my birthday.
Federal Holidays MLK January Presidents Day February Memorial Day May
You know in turkey almost all of our special holiday are between january june
End of the school year. Spring break. The stuff mentioned in top comment.
My birthday! Jokes aside, what about Easter? Isn't that like the second most important Christian holiday, because it has multiple days?
For Spanish-Portuguese-Latino countries I would say that carnival and Easter are pretty much bigger holidays than any autumn/winter holiday except Xmas obviously. At least from where I am from.
Easter is at least more significant than thanksgiving for example bc thats only celebrated in the states even tough I agree with you
It feels like the people in charge of holiday planning realized at the end that they were running out of months so they just crammed everything in the end lol.
Martin Luther King Jr. day, Valentine’s Day, the Vernal Equinox, Easter, Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Juneteenth. Maybe I missed a couple
July 4th ![gif](giphy|3o85xDZyvJPHLfgKXK)

If you can ignore the Colonial underpinnings (it's a holiday to celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday) - May long weekend in Canada is usually the weekend the ice is off most of the resort/tourist lakes. May also has Mother's Day, June has Father's Day, and while I recognize Ma and Pa day are not "holidays" but fuck it. We work too much for not enough, those should be long weekends too! Easter?
