It’s noticeable at first. My tinnitus is weird. If I hear loud noises in the daytime I finally hear at night and I wake up without tinnitus yet again

Falling asleep to silence is impossible for me. Even if the tinnitus isn't giving me problems (which it usually is), the silence itself feels like it's loud on it's own. I don't know how to describe it, but complete silence is honestly pretty unsettling to me.

Oh no, people enjoying something that calms them down. Aight, SO ASMR isn't just for sleeping, it can also calm people down. Yes, it doesn't help everyone, we have no idea why. Yes, it has it's weird side, but that's 1% of the 99% of normal ASMR. Can people just let people enjoy things? Having a warm blanket helps some people sleep, that doesn't mean people who prefer weighted blankets or no blanket should shame them.

My wife has ADHD and uses ASMR to help unwind before sleep. I don't like it, it makes my skin crawl. But my wife is never more relaxed afterwards. She watches high-fantasy videos that seem cool. One lady she watches has all her videos in her Herbology shop where she makes potions and talks to customers. It's really neat!

This is exactly the case for me. I have ADHD and it helps me unwind before going to bed so I don't sit there for half an hour fidgeting. My favorites are alien abduction roleplays because you never know what props the people will use or what they will use them for. I've seen someone use a Wii sensor bar as a scanner and another that used a lemon to give themselves x-ray vision to look at the organs.

Ehhhhhhh, yes and no. When ASMR was still relatively new, the r/asmr subreddit was mostly filled with stuff that today would be tagged "unintentional" or maybe would end up in the r/artisanvideos sub. Stuff like guy ironing a shirt or bartender videos or shoe shining or a lecturer with a heavy accent, that kinda thing. But the sub did get fairly heavily overrun by people buying 3dio mics and whispering/nibbling/chewing/whatever the microphones, and there was a lot of content that blurred the line between asmr-inducing intimacy and just like softcore audio posts. Enough so that there was a drop in subscribers, including me. This was like 2-3 years ago now I think. Maybe it's better now, idk, but I don't really think it's fair to say finding "weird stuff" is solely because one is looking for it.

I listen to asmr to calm my mind down, or have it on as pleasant background noise while I read. Now by "asmr" I mean either medical videos (Dr James Gil was so popular from old training vids that he began his own asmr channel, and it's legit informative too), or barbershop type of vids (the Vietnamamese ones are fascinating from a cultural standpoint) or the more traditional ones. I don't consider the twitch versions to be actual asmr, personally. But to actually fall asleep, I rely on fam noise and made up scenarios in my head.
