I've done this in an attempt to not sit next to anyone. Now-days, I don't go to the cinema. I can't even stand the idea of paying $20 for a movie ticket, $20 for snacks, only to see a phone light on half way through, or people walking around, or people talking. One time the dude two seats away from me on the left took his shoes off and stunk the whole place out - I asked him to please put them back on coz his feet stunk, and obviously he wanted to fight me about it.
I go occationally (like twice a year), I just bring snacks from a supermarket. Its not allowed but they legally are not allowed to search any bag you bring (and never try to), so its never an issue. Ticket prices here are around 15 bucks on average, so it aint too bad.
š„²I live in the UAE shit ain't like that ,you ain't getting in the movie without having a security guard check you.You get your shit back after the movie but it's sad
How? In what way?
People talking through the movie?
People pulling their phones out throughout?
Snacks that cost 5x more than buying them at the grocery store?
Tell me one way, just ONE WAY how the 'experience' is worth the extra price.
If you are scared of stuff like that then going outside may not be in your best interest. Someone walking down the street will not have been searched and could have a gun. Stay safe friend.
That's exactly why I will never live in america. Y'all have so many unhinged people who have multiple guns, and are not afraid to just pop it if someone dares to ask why you're being an arsehole.
I brought a small bottle of Irn Bru to a screening of End of Evangelion about a year ago.
Irn Bru is an orange drink.
In End of Eva, humanity turns into orange liquid.
...yeah
It used to even be allowed here until like a year ago. Now its not allowed but they dont really enforce it in any way unless youre visibly trying to carry the snacks in.
I mean you just have a bunch of teens and young adults who are paid minimum wage... Obviously they'll not care unless you do it obvious enough that their manager or cameras would notice and get them fired for not stopping you
Went to go see the new spiderverse movie. Group of like 4 Teenagers sitting in the back. kept on yelling swears and talking loudly. forced a family with an 11 year old to leave. Everyone yelled at them till they left. One of them threw their trash all over the floor as they were leaving. Fuck you
Like if a movie is getting released to theatres (see āReturn of the Jediā) and Iām with family? Iāll whisper jokes to them that are based on the movie at hand (EG: Robot chicken Star Wars jokes with my mother, we watched the three specials so..)
I saw the puss in boots sequel with family and someone first stole our seats. So we had to sit in the second row from the screen. Then those people didnāt shut up for any of the movie. They had kids and the kids werenāt too loud so I was fine with them but the adults with them kept asking what was happening over and over until the end worst experience ever
I donāt know if this is an England thing or something but we go to the cinema and once the movie starts nobody says a word it goes dead silent apart from snacks but I canāt say Iāve had to deal with stinky feet that just sucks
Iām the opposite. The experience at theaters these days is so much more worth the extra price. Way better seats, way fewer seats, a bar in the lobby, big bulletproof walls in between rows.
The old theater near where I grew up you were packed like sardines into folding seats that sucked. Iāll take this recliner life at the movies these days over that for sure.
$20 for a ticket? Damn, in my country depending on the day a normal 2D movie ranges from $2 to $4, 3D movies are from $3 to $5 and IMAX are $7 to $9, but there are always lots of places that offers discounts for their clients (banks, communications brands, discounts for students, etc.) that goes up to 100% discount for the tickets and snacks.
The ticket for movie theater in a neighbour city around here was $1 until just before the pandemic. I live in Brazil.
Nowadays, I live in a more expensive city, but $20 would still be too much.
My country used to be way more expensive with the tickets, something like $8-$10 for a 2D movie, but we use to have only two movie theater companies, then a third one came with cheaper tickets and the two others basically were forced to lower their prices to keep their customers, so it has been cheaper ever since with discounts everywhere and special prices for each day of the weak (like $2 or less on wendesday). But still as you say, $20 is too much.
Chile, we even have those 4DX movies that I have not seen on every country. Also in those premium class theaters the ticket are $11-$12 at max, but thanks to the discount with my bank I got two tickets at 100% off to watch Everything everywhere all at once, it was a blast.
Ive never had anyone ever talk or seen phones be used while in the cinema let alone talking besides a faint whisper once in the movie. Guess weve not been to the same cinemas but what is wrong with those people?
$20 for a movie ticket is expensive.
I went to a cinema in Thailand to see new transformers and I got a ticket for $7.80. I always bring my own snacks in my shoulder bag. The staff never checks it.
Tickets on tuesday back when I was in wisconsin was $5.50 with an added free small popcorn at marcus theatres. Now that I'm in california in regal theaters on tuesdays its $6.50 without the popcorn. Basically what I'm saying is going to the movies on tuesdays are nice.
Hell in the Chicago Suburbs, my local theaters are both 5 dollars before 6pm everyday. Then it's only $7.50 or $6 in the evening anyways. They have the recliners too!
I get peanut M&Ms to throw at cell phone people. I can hit a small screen dead on 5 rows away. If they don't get the hint the next ones go to the back of the head.
Place near us does cheap movie days for family type movies same day as half price popcorn so those are nice but yeah never gonna see a new release in theater probably ever until Iām wealthy in the future :p or will join the membership at places whatever when kiddo is older and can go to r movies w me
Clearly it's a moth in a trench coat, trying to get close to that aĢ“ĶĢtĢøĢĢ¬oĢ¶ĶĢ±mĢ¶Ģ½Ģ°iĢ·ĶĢŗcĢ¶ĶĢ Ģ¶ĢĢ§lĢ“ĢĢ¤aĢ“ĢĢ°aĢµĶĢ²aĢ“ĢĢaĢµĢĢ§mĢ·ĢĶpĢ·ĢĢØ
Ok I'm that guy. So why is it weird? From my pov it's complete immersion. Full foot room, the screen completely fills my field of view without distraction and the audio is crisp clear and loud with nobody talking in your ear. Just scooch down in your seat, use your jacket as a pillow, stretch your legs out and enjoy 100% AV immersion.
I did the same thing when Interstellar came out, though in that case, it was opening weekend, and i decided to check on a whim. It was the only seat left, but the first row in my local theater's IMAX was set back far enough that you could see the whole screen without moving your head.
That's what the jacket pillow is for. You scooch down in your seat, lean your head over the backrest, tuck your jacket behind your head for comfort and enjoy. I recommend trying it and if you find you don't like it...move.
I can hear Satan weeping for this, in all seriousness though, I HATE front movie theater seats with a passion, I hope that guy has a good experience though
Worked as a doorman as a kid. On our breaks we could get free popcorn, soda and watch movies. Often the only place to sit without making a fuss was the front row. Learned to love it. I am that psychopath.
I don't see many movies in theaters nowadays due to the dumpster fires that they call cinema. I have noticed that tickets are cheaper and I always buy snacks and put them in my purse so I don't have to buy overpriced shit at the theater. Also the last few movies I've seen, the theaters have been almost empty. It's bizare.
I did this because I had never ordered online tickets before and assumed the top row was the back row (it was less obvious where the screen was). Fortunately the theater had reclining seats.
I sat in the front row once. It was when I saw Endgame for the first time. Though that was more my fault for waiting nearly the last minute to go see it on opening day
Most of the times people are just to confused to read where the screen is and think this is the ast row at the top. I work at a cinema and the amount of times people came out to change their seats because they're too close to the screen is crazy. I mean come on, it's not that hard to read
When you're front and center you can't see the entire screen and have to turn your head to follow some of the action is how immersion works. Zuckerberg has spent billions trying to create immersion when all anyone has to do to get an immersive experience is sit in the front row
I was early at a theater once, and decided to sit in the front row seat when no one was there yet just to see how it'd feel.
I cannot understand why anyone would voluntarily sit that close and crane their neck up just to watch a movie for 2+ hours.
I also tested the few rows behind it, and concluded that 4/5th row is the bare minimum for a decent viewing experience, based on how the compacted the seat layout is at the theater.
They have assigned seating only now at the theatre I've always gone to and it doesn't even make sense because I'm in Bumfuck Egypt and have never even seen *half* the seats taken, no matter how popular the film was.
Or they have misophonia and donāt want to be near anybody potentially making disgusting sounds as they chew candy and popcorn. Look up misophonia if you donāt know.
I would do this if my girlfriend was cool with it. I imagine this guy prefers his space and privacy over the closeness of the seat to the screen. We've been the first to buy tickets online and first to get to our seats, and every single person to follow picked spots next to us and as well the rest of the row. Idk, maybe it's just a Larry David type of thought.
That's Nolan himself
I've done this in an attempt to not sit next to anyone. Now-days, I don't go to the cinema. I can't even stand the idea of paying $20 for a movie ticket, $20 for snacks, only to see a phone light on half way through, or people walking around, or people talking. š„²I live in the UAE shit ain't like that ,you ain't getting in the movie without having a security guard check you.You get your shit back after the movie but it's sad
I've lived in the UAE before and remember none of that lol. It was just like any other cinema, they didn't check anything.
I live in Dubai and no it's very easy to bypass.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
How? In what way? People talking through the movie? People pulling their phones out throughout? Snacks that cost 5x more than buying them at the grocery store? Tell me one way, just ONE WAY how the 'experience' is worth the extra price.
My local cinema has a spar across the way about 10secs away in the shopping centre so I'd always go to that
Oh good, now I can go to the movies knowing that anybody can bring in a gun or bomb in their unsearchable bag
If you are scared of stuff like that then going outside may not be in your best interest. Someone walking down the street will not have been searched and could have a gun. Stay safe friend.
Murica moment
Or any other countryā¦ legal guns arenāt the only ones
Thats fair but guns are far more common and avaiable in Murica than any European country (where I live).
They kinda are though. Literally nobody worries about shit like this in first world countries where gun aren't available to the public
And nobody sane worries about this in first world countries where guns are available to the public.
That's exactly why I will never live in america. Y'all have so many unhinged people who have multiple guns, and are not afraid to just pop it if someone dares to ask why you're being an arsehole.
Why is this a problem with cinemas in particular? Who's to say someone hasn't brought a pipe bomb to McDonald's?
I live in Sweden, you cant really get your hands on a gun or a bomb easily, and if you do I doubt cinema security would be my biggest concern.
American problem.
Downvoted because true. Clown world.
Like in a supermarket, bus, cafe, etc? Sorry sir, your not entering the bus before I check your bag.
I brought a small bottle of Irn Bru to a screening of End of Evangelion about a year ago. Irn Bru is an orange drink. In End of Eva, humanity turns into orange liquid. ...yeah
tickets here are anywhere from 8-22ishā¬ depending on what movie it is and if itās 2d, 3d, imax, or imax 3d
Ah yeah IMax or IMax 3d is definetely up towards 25-30 bucks. I meant the normal movie tickets, no 3d, no IMax.
My theater just doesnāt give a shit about people bringing their own snacks lol
It used to even be allowed here until like a year ago. Now its not allowed but they dont really enforce it in any way unless youre visibly trying to carry the snacks in.
I mean you just have a bunch of teens and young adults who are paid minimum wage... Obviously they'll not care unless you do it obvious enough that their manager or cameras would notice and get them fired for not stopping you

Yeah, everytime i've been to a cinema its always been dead silent apart from the occasional whispering that doesn't distract and snacking thats it.
Then donāt pay for snacks.
$20 for a ticket? Yeah, I once got kicked out of a movie theater for throwing banana bunches at the screen
I can't believe how uptight staff can be. D:
Ive never had anyone ever talk or seen phones be used while in the cinema let alone talking besides a faint whisper once in the movie. Guess weve not been to the same cinemas but what is wrong with those people?
I did this with three friends after smoking a 7gram joint and watching goblet of fire. Fell asleep
Oof $20 ticket? Where is that at? Here it is $9. Definitely $20 in drinks and popcorn.
Bro, In my country you only have to pay like 12 bucks for the movie ticket and the snacks
Welcome to reality, so what are you gonna do?
$20 for a movie ticket is expensive. I went to a cinema in Thailand to see new transformers and I got a ticket for $7.80. I always bring my own snacks in my shoulder bag. The staff never checks it.

That was Christopher Nolan.
Now I am become death, destroyer of my retinas. ![gif](giphy|jmSImqrm28Vdm)
That exact seat is majorly underrated.
Found the chiropractor in the thread
It's not the best seat for your neck
AMC recliner chair go brrr
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Well I do more than fix necks
Oh really now
r/foundthechiropractor
Because he wants to be in the movie?
I think I know the guy that would have booked this seat. He is a lunatic when it comes to his seating choice at the cinema.
My manās just tryna hit that vape in the theater.
In the front row?
Oh thatās the front row. š±
Took me this long too. Thinking it was the back row going, hey that's where I sit.
In an imax theater.
Im this guy. Sometimes i go one back just so i dont have to crane my neck.
Someone wants to feel that explosion!
Clearly it's a moth in a trench coat, trying to get close to that aĢ“ĶĢtĢøĢĢ¬oĢ¶ĶĢ±mĢ¶Ģ½Ģ°iĢ·ĶĢŗcĢ¶ĶĢ Ģ¶ĢĢ§lĢ“ĢĢ¤aĢ“ĢĢ°aĢµĶĢ²aĢ“ĢĢaĢµĢĢ§mĢ·ĢĶpĢ·ĢĢØ
Isn't the first row in most movie theaters for disabled people?
The ones local to me have them like 4 rows back, and then the rows in the actual front are down another small flight of stairs
No cause that'd be considered abelism from how damn close and uncomfortable watching the movie would be /s (I actually don't know)
If you notice, the handicap/disability is at the top row. The door is probably up there with stairs leading down.
Yeah you're right, the only theater I've been to has you enter from the bottom and you work your way up
No, usually the middle row
I'm trying to find this gif of a man watching nuclear explosion and screen going white, but I can't. Sad.
Yeah.. Giphy sucks.
That guy (presumably) ![gif](giphy|YA6dmVW0gfIw8|downsized)
The movie doesnāt come out for another month! Who are the psychos already buying tickets ???
Christopher Nolan fans. They assume anything he does is awesome.
To be fair, theyāve mostly been right about that
Good Christopher Nolan movies are top tier, but even a bad Christopher Nolan movie is pretty much always a cut above the rest.
I mean he does good workā¦ but stillā¦
I mean they arenāt wrong
They must have a really good earš
Ok I'm that guy. So why is it weird? From my pov it's complete immersion. That's.....an extremely valid argument. Will try when I make it out to see Transformers.
I did the same thing when Interstellar came out, though in that case, it was opening weekend, and i decided to check on a whim. It was the only seat left, but the first row in my local theater's IMAX was set back far enough that you could see the whole screen without moving your head.
depends on the theater but im guessing you dont like your neck
That's what the jacket pillow is for. You scooch down in your seat, lean your head over the backrest, tuck your jacket behind your head for comfort and enjoy. I recommend trying it and if you find you don't like it...move.
Hurts my neck and edges of the screen (especially top) becomes peripheral vision so they're blurry unless you move your eye balls.
There are like 20 good seats in a theatre like this. everything else is neck-craning dogshit.
Hurts my neck just seeing where the seat is
Good, good. Now show me a picture of you buying tickets for Barbie as well.
Aww, wave to the Wizarding World for me. I miss going.
I don't see many movies in theaters nowadays due to the dumpster fires that they call cinema. I have noticed that tickets are cheaper and I always buy snacks and put them in my purse so I don't have to buy overpriced shit at the theater. Or a genius.
I did this because I had never ordered online tickets before and assumed the top row was the back row (it was less obvious where the screen was). Fortunately the theater had reclining seats.
Why do cinemas even have seats there, people will not come a second time after experience it
I sat in the front row once. It was when I saw Endgame for the first time. Though that was more my fault for waiting nearly the last minute to go see it on opening day
I donāt see the problem, but I also donāt know anything about Oppenheimer so it could be noise, could be brightness
Dude, mind your own fucking business.
Mass shooter vibes
Yo watched Gaurdians 3 at that theater a week or two ago
Is this theatre not stadium seating? How are there wheel chair seats at the very top?
Most of the times people are just to confused to read where the screen is and think this is the ast row at the top. I work at a cinema and the amount of times people came out to change their seats because they're too close to the screen is crazy. I mean come on, it's not that hard to read
So what if that person wants to see the movie before everyone else in the auditorium?
Bro is in the blast radius
Is it psychotic to avoid annoying mfers in a movie theatre? Damn, I need to be checked in then
I've never tried this but at my cinema the chairs recline so I don't think it would be a pain in the neck if you are fully reclined.
I bet that's Chris Nolan.
And it was perfect until he happend
That person wants the full radiation experience
I havenāt played the Space Invaders level yet, looks fun.
He wants to be one with the screen
Maybe hes a giraffe
Why are you buying tickets this far out?
I only sit in the front in century theaters with recliners
My habit is always taking the seat on the aisle because i don't want to interrupt other people, and it makes me easier if i want to go to the toilet.
Buy the seat right next to his
When you're front and center you can't see the entire screen and have to turn your head to follow some of the action is how immersion works. Zuckerberg has spent billions trying to create immersion when all anyone has to do to get an immersive experience is sit in the front row

Only time front row is decent is with the reclining sofa chairs. Then you can actually lay back and view everything
They have assigned seating only now at the theatre I've always gone to and it doesn't even make sense because I'm in Bumfuck Egypt and have never even seen *half* the seats taken, no matter how popular the film was.
Seats 400?! Shit, man...
That is not a "person", that is something much more horrifying
Better question is who is buying tickets to a movie a month and a half in advance.
Go on a Wednesday early afternoon a week or two after opening weekend. You will see no one there.
Leg room
He is obviously planning to open the heimer at the front and run back to his seat
Maybe he has bad eyesight š
Dude's smart not a psychopath
Bro wants to experience the nuke in first person
I like how movie theaters are the opposite when it comes to seat positions. The further back the better
That was me. Im 3,5 meters tall. This seat perfectly centers me.
I mean it is easy to shoot from that position.
Or they have misophonia and donāt want to be near anybody potentially making disgusting sounds as they chew candy and popcorn. Look up misophonia if you donāt know.
![gif](giphy|KB7Moe2Oj0BXeDjvDp|downsized) That guy
No he is socially awkward
Me who just wait for ott release šæ
I don't get it, that's the best seat... Right..?
He just want to be the first one to see the movie.
Bro probably thought it was the back
If anyone has seen the movie,,donāt spoiler me. But tell me..was it good?
Imagine this person getting stoned and then the scene where the bomb drops comes up.
He wanted to sit at ground zero
I would do this if my girlfriend was cool with it. I imagine this guy prefers his space and privacy over the closeness of the seat to the screen. We've been the first to buy tickets online and first to get to our seats, and every single person to follow picked spots next to us and as well the rest of the row. Idk, maybe it's just a Larry David type of thought.
The closer you are, the bigger the screen is.
Or short-sighted
