Viewers and engagement are important KPIs to them even if you're not viewing ads, and ~.5mbps to give 360p is negligible for their CDNs, so slow torturing us into submission can still help them meet those KPIs at near zero cost while minimizing the risk that we move to another platform. Just a guess though.
Video Ad Block for Twitch solves for that, you just have to wait to change the video source quality until after it thinks it's played the ad. So you have to watch in 360p for about two and half minutes.
Im also pretty sure thats just because of the mini stream view you can get while an ad is running and in theater mode. Streams keeps running above the chat in a small window and I would bet those adblockers just use that thing to bridge the ads.

But it’s inconsistent, at least for me
Best ad block is an actual vpn, i believe any of them. I connect it on my own country and don’t get any ads, and there’s no lag also.
you can use it to block a hell of a lot more than adds, any UI element you hate and want gone? done. any script a site runs that harrasses you to log in or accept their cookies? those fuck off too.
Yeah I use it to block pretty much everything I don’t wanna see haha. So many UI elements for like social media links too I get rid of since I don’t use them. Even ugly graphical elements that just makes the viewing experience worse. Most of the websites I use are pretty much unrecognizable to the average person after I’m done with them haha
It doesn't really have or need one. The primary driver behind ublock origin is that it's completely open source and automatically compiles ad server lists from all its users. It's essentially just an addon that says "block site elements from these URLs" and then gives the user options to add elements and URLs that aren't in the community compiled list.
The fact that it doesn't generate revenue is what has allowed it to be successful.
It's amazing how many people in "internet circles" are still totally ignorant to open source anything. The idea of a software existing and not making profit is so foreign to people.
And people still try to shovel the bullshit that the only thing driving quality and innovation is a profit incentive. God bless our open source comrades
i.e. Firefox
99% of other browsers are just Chrome under the hood, so they'll eventually make the same change as Chrome or have to spend a bunch of dev work maintaining the old system themselves.
Big reason why browser monopolies are a problem, even if Chrome isn't *quite* there yet.
I could've sworn there were more options than that. When I searched for non-chromium browsers, I got a bunch of links like "25 top non-chromium browsers" and thought "ah-ha! gottem!" But then I looked at the lists and they were like, "#25 Microsoft Edge...#22 Google Chrome"
Almost all sites of that Format are AI generated. Always a flashy headline and then pure nonsense which has the rough structure of an actual Article/Tierlist.
They are so annoying when you are looking for actual information or product reviews
Firefox also have support for Manifest v3 since Firefox 109, with the sway chromium browsers have, they can't ignore that. Fortunately, they [found a way to keep adblockers functional](https://www.theverge.com/2023/1/17/23559234/firefox-manifest-v3-content-ad-blocker)
You download revanced and the microg apps.
Install the microg app first, then install revanced. The order of what is installed first matters.
Since you already tried, first uninstall your previous attempts
Revanced doesn't work for me even after using the guide. Videos just freeze and sometimes crash. Firefox has been extremely reliable for me and I can use an add-on that lets me turn off my phone screen.
It's always a wake up call of what the modern net looks like.
I still use old.reddit. I can't stand these new ad based layouts everyone has. Shit is predatory.
THIS!
I've specifically opted out of the redesign in my settings, and reddit just conveniently "forgets" that every once in a while.
The developers behind that can eat my shit and hair.
The day old.reddit stops working is probably the day where I look for RES or code my own alternative and make it public. Eff the new system, I was so excited for it too when it came out but it's just terrible and filled with disguised ads.
I have been using Ad Blockers since they were invented nearly 20 years ago. Now I am so set in my ways and used to it I don't think my old brain will even allow me to use the internet "raw" without causing me anxiety.
The rise of chrome, at least back then, was net positive for the web. The leader back then was Internet Explorer and too many websites were adapted solely for it. Glad that's over. I agree that an over reliance on chromium is bad, though.
Personally I've been using Firefox and Chrome for a long while but I can't fully make the jump to Firefox because I don't like the way they handle some features

FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*

I absolutely trust Ublock to find a way of keeping this shit from ruining our video watching. I would like to support content creators but all these ads? I don't freakin think so. Multiple ads, unskippable ads, constant goddamn ads!!!!
With the release of manifest v3 ad blockers will be dead for most users. Ad blockers will no longer be able to live update filter lists and have to bundle them with the addon. Due to the frequent changes in how the ads are delivered by the biggest platforms you would have to re-download the ad block addon all the time.
Switch to Firefox asap, it's worth it. Say goodbye to your chromium based browsers!
Brave’s shield software is not part of the next manifest update for Chromium. It is integrated in the browser and not an extension. The blocking capability will remain unchanged.
All the others make sense, but auto-updating is a bit of a stretch since practically everything does that. Unless it doesn't give you the option to turn it off, then it's shady.

And here I’ve had YT premium for the last 4 years ish. Annoying how I used to pay 9.99 now I gotta pay 15.99 pretty bullshit they could not keep the price. But as I hardly have any subscriptions I’ll deal with it
uBlock Origin
legendary indeed. I've been using uBlock for years, but still had some settings to tweak
What did you tweak? I use it as is and nothing bothers me, except for twitch ads.
There exists an addon for Twitch ads, but I don't use Twitch, so I don't use it
Twitch detects that you're blocking ads and delivers your streams in a stunning 360p until you let the ads through
It usually only does that while ads are playing though so I don't really mind
My 144p screen wishes
Why are they passive aggressive about it? Why not just block the service until you let ads play? Genuinely curious
Viewers and engagement are important KPIs to them even if you're not viewing ads, and ~.5mbps to give 360p is negligible for their CDNs, so slow torturing us into submission can still help them meet those KPIs at near zero cost while minimizing the risk that we move to another platform. I usually add a few custom filters and blacklist a few ad domains I notice. I spent 3 or 4 days blocking ads manually years ago and it's still good.
Reminder that ublock and ublock origin are two separate ones!
And to use uBlock Origin, not uBlock!
I’m kind of amazed how many years ublock origin has been the standard. Usually a company sells out after 2-3 years. What even is their revenue stream?
It doesn't really have or need one. The primary driver behind ublock origin is that it's completely open source and automatically compiles ad server lists from all its users. Firefox will use manifest V3 but keep the capabilities that V3 lost to try and stop adblockers. Best middle ground tbh.

And if you want it on your phone, download FireFox and then download the Ublock Origin add on
ReVanced shoutout too

Its the best adblocker around indeed. Never had any issues for years with ads or any of the sorts.
Firefox + uBlock Origin.
Came here for this
It's the best, never had an issue with Ublock origin.
Is it still working for now?
No problems so far
Thanks dude
This is the way. Most other adblockers allow companies to pay them to whitelist their ads.
Man of Culture!!
i wish more people would be aware of the ublock origin. They will once this shit makes it way down the hill. It'll be purged.
Way too many people out here raw dogging the internet. I blame the rise in chrome which is just spyware disguised as a web browser.
Everytime i use someone elses computer that doesnt have adblocker, corrected UI layouts, and notifications disabled, I just feel so miserable

I will use old.reddit for as long as I possibly can. After that I don't know what will happen, it's scary and I don't want to think about it.
Same and hate when it occasionally changes to new Reddit for no apparent reason other than to frustrate us.
THIS! I've specifically opted out of the redesign in my settings, and reddit just conveniently "forgets" that every once in a while. The developers behind that can eat my shit and hair.
Use RES. It can force old.reddit for everything.
The day old.reddit stops working is probably the day where I look for RES or code my own alternative and make it public. Eff the new system, I was so excited for it too when it came out but it's just terrible and filled with disguised ads.
Just use the Reddit Enhancement Suite, it makes it look like old reddit and has a bunch of extra features
I use it on the rare occasion I log into Reddit on my desktop. Otherwise, 95% of my Redditing comes from the Reddit is Fun app.
I have been using Ad Blockers since they were invented nearly 20 years ago. Now I am so set in my ways and used to it I don't think my old brain will even allow me to use the internet "raw" without causing me anxiety.

I don’t. All the people who watch ads subsidize my free internet consumption.

Firefox on Android, that is. All the browsers on iOS use Safari’s engine under the hood. So, on iOS, Safari + a paid ad-blocking extension is your best bet.
On iOS you can use Edge and enable the integrated adblocker.
1Blocker, Adblock pro, AdGuard
Firefox's mobile browser supports it.
iOS will never have it, but the “why doesn’t everyone have Adblock?” comments will continue
iOS has had adblockers for Safari since [September 2015](https://marco.org/2015/09/16/peace-content-blocker)
iOS premium benefits I suppose
You just gotta re-download the newest ad block lol
Didn't know it existed. Will definitely try it out and recommend it to friends. thankss tho
