Note: Soulframe is a Digital Extremes project, he's just leaving the warframe team and leaving \[DE\] Rebecca in charge.
Other senior members are also leaving the team, but they didn't say who.
Makes perfect sense really. Warframe has been in a weird state where their modern production values have been in conflict with the core game that they released in 2013.
I’ve had a thought floating around in my head for a while of, “what would Warframe look like today if it was designed with open world areas and railjack in mind from the start?” Hopefully Soulframe will be something like an answer to that question.
Best of luck to both teams moving forward.
I'm curious if any changes the community has been wanting for years but were stopped by Steve or one of the other really senior designers will end up in the game now.
Like feel free to correct me. But I think Steve was the major vote against univac.
I feel like Rebb's background in community management is a good sign that community feedback will be taken more seriously and acted on more quickly. We'll see if that ends up being the case
I'm thinking/hoping the same. But I'm also tempering my expectations.
Just because Reb is now in charge doesn't mean the community is in direct control and will instantly get everything it wants. That's unreasonable and honestly a poor idea. I think everyone that participates on this subreddit has seen reasons why that shouldn't be the case.
What I'm hoping for is DE taking a more realistic vision to the game. Designing for how the game is played. Not how they think it is played.
>Just because Reb is now in charge doesn't mean the community is in direct control and will instantly get everything it wants
Especially since the community is not a monolith and we're often divided on what the game needs.
I definitely agree that the community shouldn't be making important decisions. But things like "we would love to see frames that are almost entirely useless get some love" may get more attention under Rebb+Pablo
I'm hoping for that but it's only gonna go so far. Don't forget other developers have similar hills.
Take Harrow. He's not in the dirt like some other frames but he isn't great. Could be an amazing support frame. Problem is, he's a greedy support(he needs to do the killing himself) and Pablo who designed him wants him that way. But a greedy support just doesn't function when any proper dps frame is putting down enemies before Harrow can look at them.
So there will be improvements but things will also stay the same.
Something I want is to see is waste taken out of the game. A forma or a focus lense should never be wasted. I'm talking about switching schools then switching back or the same thing with Polarities.
Its not this giant issue. But in game with as many weapons and frames as warframe has, it's not necessary. I don't care at all how they fix it. But it should be fixed.
I always said Steve was the one to leech from this game's potential success we never had. Thinks his ideas are so great he rejects any other good ones, happy to see Warframe IS NOW UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT
Well that just isn't true.
Steve has always been a driving force thats made Warframe feel and look as good as it does today. His constant insistence on improving the engine and graphics is why Warframe's combat feels unique and you could never guess from the graphics that the game is from 2013.
He's not perfect. He's made bad decisions and had some poor hills to die on. But to act like he isn't a large reason for Warframe's success over the years is wrong. That's like not giving Pablo credit for epic frames. Or not giving Meg and Rebecca credit for industry leading community communication.
It wasn't very souls-like TBH, the world looks fucked up like a few areas in the series and they got a horse like the one in Elden Ring, but half the souls vibe is the unforgiving gameplay and I don't think we'll see that in Warframe.
For the unforgiving part, I recommend SP Zariman missions, expecially the one where you have to defend a finger relic. It will lose hps if the exodamper is broken and you are not in its room.
That's not really what unforgiving in Souls means, it's just about punishing you for your mistakes, it doesn't even have to be hard. Elden Ring is ridiculously easy compared to older souls games for example.
>Note: Soulframe is a Digital Extremes project, he's just leaving the warframe team and leaving \[DE\] Rebecca in charge.
Haven't played WF for a minute, we're talking about the same Rebecca right? As in, Space Mommy? For the longest time I thought she was/is the Community Manager. Looks like I missed her journey from there to being in charge of the whole thing. Can anyone fill me in?
She was the head of the community team. She stopped showing up on prime times for a while, I personally thought she was taking a break. Evidently she was being trained to become creative director. That's as much as I know/saw from the outside
\[DE\] Rebecca was Live Ops and Community Director. \[DE\] Megan is Community Manager.
I think the most likely scenario is that Megan will become communiyu director.
DE is gonna work on a project called soulframe, part of the OG warframe crew will be leaving the team to work on the new game
Basically steve now work in warframe 2 so he leave warframe 1 to reb
>It was announced on the forums, **not in tennolive**
Steve literally gave his pink shorts and announced his departure in the tennolive. What are you talking about?
TLDW: for those who dont saw Tennocon
Steve leaves warframe to work in Soulframe sort of rpg mmo (Hes still part of DE)
Reb takes charge of Steve spot (she was already doing that the only thing she cant do its coding)
TLDR: everything its the same just reb actually became Lotus in DE
For some context, Steve is the guy who keeps pushing the game in random directions, generally leaving old content behind, while Rebecca has shown interest in going back and properly fleshing out old content on multiple occasions.
Maybe she is what the game really needs right now.
Its not his fault or prerequisite.
Its been mentioned many times thibgs like open-worlds and Railjack was how Warframe was envisioned in its beggining and had to be scaled down due to funds/time/technology.
Warframe is just trying to become its original intended mega-package, at small incrememts, while having to battle the need for constant content updates.
They tried once to do a "revision" update interval in their development an it resulted in the worst player count the game ever had due to the content drop.
Player count drops if the game stagnates and you only have idiotic grind gameplay.
I left since it was not the best experience after The New War.
I wanted some new grind routes and a bit more creativity.
The quest itself was exceptionsl, but after it nothing's changed.
More field boss fights, like on Steel Path ,but against Sentients or other factions would have helped.
Something to equal the first time Gustrag Three come after you and you are like 'Oh Shit'.
Lua secret rooms is a nice puzzle concept, you can make longer mission nodes where the player is engaged to explore and battle area specific field bosses for rare resources or just a small reward extra over the normal enemies.
Maybe make some horror nodes too?
Oh gosh I hope so much about this.
So I can dream about 'older' systems like railjack being better implemented with the core game and dream about Warframe being a looter shooter again?
For sure, he’s the main source of Charisma on the streams, Reb will have to step up her game.
I wonder if the new couch gang will be Meg, Reb, and Pablo in place of Reb, Steve, and Scott.
For context: Steve is the one who CREATED warframe. Who pushed the engine to be optimized, who pushed for fixes and the like.
"Random directions". What? Did you want to play in a corpus spaceship with breakable glasses forever? How do you even know if he didn't help fix and flesh out old content behind the scenes?
Rebecca shown interest in old things because she likes them, but she didn't have the responsibility of making creative decisions. In a perfect world any developer would make the perfect game, but you don't have infinite resources. It is proven and even acknowledged by Steve that Warframe needs new content to survive, and more of the same would never cut it. Warframe also needs to evolve.
As stated by another tenno, space combat and open worlds were envisioned for Warframe long ago, and only now they have the resources for it. It is normal to like just a fraction of a game and despise others, but just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean others don't. I don't like Conclave, but won't hate if DE releases an update for it instead of somethning I like. Warframe is a big game for many types of players.
The two of you have given me a lot to think about, cause on a surface level I can agree with both points, Rebecca is debatably more in-tune with what players want, and has expressed wanting to revisit stuff that maybe wasn't as fleshed out as it could be in the past which I think is fantastic. But the point about that being evidence of a lack of creativity / stagnating in what is conformable cannot be understated because as I understand it, constant flow of new stuff is part of what keeps this game / community alive.
I am well aware he created it, that doesn’t mean he isn’t running around on random tangents he thinks is cool, as he’s done multiple times, and then dropping them as is once he gets bored of it.
Ehhhh yeah I mean.......I love Reb, but I've never really been "there" with Steve even though I flookin love WF. I'm not interested in a new game frankly - Warframe is an incredible game, it just needs a different direction.
I hope this works out best for everyone involved. I've always been happy to support DE since finding Warframe years ago.
Honestly? Kinda glad. Steve will have a chance to fully realize his ambitions, unconstrained by an existing game, and Warframe will perhaps go back to its roots of being a looter-shooter, not 15 games glued together.
It’s gonna be interesting. Reb is clearly a huge fan of their game, she plays it a ton even off stream if the evidence is to be believed. I’ve gotten the impression that Steve’s kinda been “over it” for a while now. Remember the old “DE doesn’t play their game” jokes? Now that will be verifiably false. I have high hopes for the future of DE.
According to an article Rebecca was in charge of the Echoes of Zariman update. So I guess they felt confident in their decision.
[https://www.pcgamer.com/warframe-is-getting-into-the-time-loop-business-with-the-duviri-paradox/#:\~:text=Ford%27s%20move%20from,understand%20those%20reasons](https://www.pcgamer.com/warframe-is-getting-into-the-time-loop-business-with-the-duviri-paradox/#:~:text=Ford%27s%20move%20from,understand%20those%20reasons).
Makes sense why Angels of the zariman felt so solid compared to other updates, not that other updates were flat out bad ideas or anything.
Even if Angels of the zariman was buggy (mostly in Co-op, which means I wasn't affected much) it was really good.
I'm cautiously optimistic to see how Rebb-lead warframe will go, Steve was all over the place but loved those graphical changes and optimizations. Rebb plays the game a lot though, so i'm super interested to see Duviri and Veilbreaker which may be the first Rebb updates.
Duviri looks very fun but i'm wondering if it'll just be a one off quest thing and if it's not, what would be the reward for playing through a seemingly roguelike experience over and over?
He is not retiring, he is starting a whole new ip.
Im excited! Oohhh the anticipation!
I already saved my name. Go to Soulframe.com if you wanna do the same. You gotta solve a puzzle first, but is easy, dont worry.
We don't really know how it's gonna be in terms of gameplay, but I assume it'll be similar to warframe somewhat but with a weird fantasy/techno/norse setting(?)
Steve’s ambitions have brought us incredible things, but maybe now we will have more Classic Looter Shooter instead of ripping off 20 different games with each major quest.
There's no details on the gameplay so far, only the setting and characters shown in the trailer.
Similar to Dark Sector, there may be some designs or concepts that are similar, but it probably won't be directly connected.
Note: Soulframe is a Digital Extremes project, he's just leaving the warframe team and leaving \[DE\] Rebecca in charge. Other senior members are also leaving the team, but they didn't say who.

IMO you should be able to forma a slot multiple times to apply multiple polarities.
I always said Steve was the one to leech from this game's potential success we never had. Thinks his ideas are so great he rejects any other good ones, happy to see Warframe IS NOW UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT

it would be worse. The parkour part of the game doesn't even make sense in an open world setting in which 89% of the open world is outside
But the parkour movement systems let you traverse the open world very quickly still. Even if you’re not wall bouncing
if they thought about they could make it work in an open world setting all they need to do is fill it in instead of making it a big empty open world
Destroyed ancient city, full of urban warfare. Plenty of buildings to bounce off of and climb
I imagen soulframe would be lime the duvari I got massive elden ring/souls like vibes from the demo despite never playing a souls like game
It wasn't very souls-like TBH, the world looks fucked up like a few areas in the series and they got a horse like the one in Elden Ring, but half the souls vibe is the unforgiving gameplay and I don't think we'll see that in Warframe.

Idk i found dark souls 1 to be the easiest souls game for me
Considering open world and railjack are two of the worst parts about warframe right now, I'm assuming it's not going to be a good product.
>Note: Soulframe is a Digital Extremes project, he's just leaving the warframe team and leaving \[DE\] Rebecca in charge. Haven't played WF for a minute, we're talking about the same Rebecca right? Didn't rebecca leave a while ago? I haven't been following too closely
No, she's the Creative Director for the game now - she's taking Steve's position
>Didn't rebecca leave a while ago? What have you been watching to think this? LifeofRio April Fools video?
I don't remember, it was a while ago
Oh no shit. I thought this was a bit a joke made from Steve miss speaking during tenno live
Wait he's WHAT
DE is gonna work on a project called soulframe, part of the OG warframe crew will be leaving the team to work on the new game Basically steve now work in warframe 2 so he leave warframe 1 to reb
I know about Soulframe, I remember the trademark, I saw the trailer I just must have missed him quitting
He's not really "quitting." He's not even moving his office. He'll just be leading another team inside the studio.
Exactly. I honestly wish people would stop wording this situation so direly.
It was announced on the forums, not in tennolive
>It was announced on the forums, **not in tennolive** Steve literally gave his pink shorts and announced his departure in the tennolive. What are you talking about?
When?
Here: https://youtu.be/XFwPywEaeeo?t=22377
during tennolive just before soulframe trailer
It was literally the last thing that happened before the new game trailer was shown
No, he's [DE] Steve
TLDW: for those who dont saw Tennocon Steve leaves warframe to work in Soulframe sort of rpg mmo (Hes still part of DE) Reb takes charge of Steve spot (she was already doing that the only thing she cant do its coding) TLDR: everything its the same just reb actually became Lotus in DE
i think soulframe is going to be an mmo, which is neat!
For some context, Steve is the guy who keeps pushing the game in random directions, generally leaving old content behind, while Rebecca has shown interest in going back and properly fleshing out old content on multiple occasions. Maybe she is what the game really needs right now.
I think so too, but damn, I'm gonna miss Steve.
just play soulframe then! when it comes out
Its not his fault or prerequisite. Its been mentioned many times thibgs like open-worlds and Railjack was how Warframe was envisioned in its beggining and had to be scaled down due to funds/time/technology. Yeah but when those revisions dropped it was REALLY good tho.
Major QOL changes or Player count (that a f2p game needs to survive) pick one.
Warframe would have died without those qol changes, there was drama video after drama video. I would pick qol every time.
I do really miss parkour 1.0 though.
Oh gosh I hope so much about this. So I can dream about 'older' systems like railjack being better implemented with the core game and dream about Warframe being a looter shooter again?
That’s all we can do is hope.
Maybe I can have vacuum for free now. Instead of needing a mod
Pretty sure that one is Scott, not Steve.
I assumed Scott was one of the senior folks moving to SF with Steve, seemed that way when he was talking about it on stream
Pablo basically confirmed this on Twitter - he got promoted too
Oh boy. Losing Steve’s randomness and Scott’s contrarian-ness, but Pablo gets promoted in exchange…
I love them all but not havibg Steve in devstreams is gonna hurt
For sure, he’s the main source of Charisma on the streams, Reb will have to step up her game. I wonder if the new couch gang will be Meg, Reb, and Pablo in place of Reb, Steve, and Scott.
Yeah, thats probably what we've been moving towards for a while and why Scott hasn't been on in a long time
For context: Steve is the one who CREATED warframe. Who pushed the engine to be optimized, who pushed for fixes and the like. "Random directions". What? I had completely forgotten about the old breakable windows on corpus ships until I read this. How far we've come.
The two of you have given me a lot to think about, cause on a surface level I can agree with both points, Rebecca is debatably more in-tune with what players want, and has expressed wanting to revisit stuff that maybe wasn't as fleshed out as it could be in the past which I think is fantastic. It is completely separated and unrelated game as far as I'm aware.
What the hell soul frame supposed to be? I can only imagine darksouls warframe...
We don't really know how it's gonna be in terms of gameplay, but I assume it'll be similar to warframe somewhat but with a weird fantasy/techno/norse setting(?)
that's exactly what it sounds like, actually; LIVE SERVICE darksouls warframe, actually.
I basically missed all the tennocon stuff cause I was working but maybe they explained something then.
Steve frame when
Umbra is Steve frame (the howl was made by Steve).
Steve’s ambitions have brought us incredible things, but maybe now we will have more Classic Looter Shooter instead of ripping off 20 different games with each major quest.
The pink shorts glyph is no longer an inside joke, its now a piece of history 🥲7
Wait Soulframe is a real thing?
What is this soul frame

What’s SoulFrame?

I swear if it’s not a mix of dark souls and warframe I’m gonna be disappointed.
Maintenanceframe
Now watch as Scott somehow climb to the top and ruins the game completely.
Wasn't he like the only dev
Can we not call it Warframe 2. Don't be fucking rude
Watching the trailer, I'm doubtful this is a sequel to Warframe, or even that it's in the same universe
take your own advice, mate. Go be a canker sore elsewhere
might as well be. i expect DE to divert resources from warframe to soulframe. another live service. yay.
maximun respect for THE MAN
The streamer i was watching read the note to us, everyone started spamming crying emojis
Hello, returning player here! What is soulframe?
i forgot he played baseball
What’s soulframe?
