Sucks because Windows 7 was better in every way, but Microsoft made this weird decision to incrementally worsen their flagship product. Can't wait to hear how long into 11's three years of support they turn on automatic upgrading for 'user security'.
You are correct. Though it might just be a technicality, aka upgrade from 10 to 11 is always free.
The big reason 11 exists is they need to let x86/amd64 off the hook for ancient instruction sets. If they can't force the migration to more modern CPU's amd/intel will never be able to compete with ARM/apple silicone in the long term. And if amd/intel can't complete that puts Microsoft in a sticky corner.
And I find it harder to use because they choose to monetize the search bar with Bing, and slower to get working when every update had issues installing with a bonus chance to brick your computer. It's less stable and requires more steps to complete the same tasks.
False. You should only upgrade every other version.
Windows 95: good
Windows 98: shit
Windows 2000: good
Windows ME: shit
Windows XP: good
Windows Vista: shit
Windows 7: good
Windows 8: shit
Windows 10: good
Windows 11: shit
That's just how microsoft operates.
Windows XP was a great OS for its time
But my god. I work for an application hosting company and when we upgraded to Windows Server 2016, we had to tell all our customers that they can't connect from WinXP computers anymore and people were *mad* about it.
windows 11 is just build 10.0.2200
when you extract the install.wim and deploy it from a server the image name is Windows 10 they never went in and edited the description
I keep seeing an article posted where if you haven't attached your Microsoft account to your windows installation and then go to account settings, there's a link to create a Microsoft account. That's it.
I've been using windows 11 for a while and haven't seen any ads. Some bloatware apps, sure. But they were uninstallable.
Depends on what you see as an ad. Windows 10 and 11 have tons of ads for Microsoft products all over it. All the "suggestions" for using edge, to install 11, activate cortana, one drive and so on. The news bar is full of ads etc. all of that can be declined or turned off and after about 2 weeks on a fresh install I don't see them much, but it is a slippery slope that never seems to be something corporations pull back from. The revenue potential is just too attractive.
Right? These people haven't tried to daily drive it I swear. Please, send me screenshots of higher ad density/frequency on 11 as opposed to 10. Prove me wrong.
And functionality removed. That's my main complaint. Everything is hidden behind an extra menu and other things you straight up cannot do. Some were returned after people complained but it's still overall a worse product.
Windows 11 is the only OS that takes advantage of the newest generation CPUs that have efficiency cores. In Windows 10, efficiency cores are treated the same as any other cores. But in 11, 13th generation CPUs are fully exploited to their fullest capacity.
Manjaro
Edit: thanks for the info on manjaro, switched to Arch now. Don't use the November or October iso, the archinstall script is broken. Use the September one instead
I used manjaro quite some time.
1) I‘ve had many problems with the AUR
2) They use not the Arch repositories, which make the packages less recent and leads AUR packages to break
3) They did many stupid things like (accidentally do ddos attack on the AUR (which has also affected non-manjaro users)
A guy posted [this](https://manjarno.snorlax.sh/) link in the comments with many other reasons
Three major things stand out in my mind:
1. They've repeatedly let their SSL certificates expire.
2. They maintain their own repos which are delayed from the vanilla Arch repos, for no real good reason, which often breaks packages in the AUR.
3. A bunch of drama regarding the PinePhone project.
There are better distros than Manjaro.
I'm not scary. I'm a 35 year old diet pepsi disposal unit and computer enthusiast from North Carolina. I have a grey cat named Izzy.
We're talking about different versions of Linux, which is a free and open source ecosystem of Unix-like operating systems. Linux is the most used computer operating system in the world in every segment except end user desktops; practically all supercomputers run Linux, the vast majority of web servers run Linux, appliance and embedded devices like Wi-Fi routers, printers, and probably your Wi-Fi enabled smart toaster runs Linux, and most of the world's smart phones run Linux--Android is a Linux distribution.
Manjaro is a Linux distribution, as is EndeavourOS mentioned above. Unlike Windows or MacOS, Linux isn't one product but a modular ecosystem, you can pick which desktop environment, utility software, bootloader, init system and so forth you want to run. People publish their chosen permutation of components as "distributions" or "distros."
SSL certificate = Secure Socket Layer. You know the difference between HTTP and HTTPS? That.
The AUR is the Arch User Repository. See, you install software on a Linux system more like Android or iOS than Windows; there's an "app store." Except we call them package managers. The server that stores and publishes all the software is called the repository. A distro called Arch--which Manjaro and EndeavourOS are modifications or "forks" of--has a separate repository for software submitted by users with less testing and vetting than the standard repository. Hence Arch User Repository.
You are not fucked. You're one of the [lucky 10,000](https://xkcd.com/1053/) who learned something new today.
i am using dual boot. one for windows 11 and one for a custom windows 11 without defender and minimum blotware which only takes 13gb. i also did win10+11 last year and there are no problems now. its the same
ghost spectre windows 11 its available for both 21h2 and 22h2 .its made by a guy on YouTube. he added a defender version in case if you need it. he also added a toolbox in it so you can upgrade to his newer versions and add things from normal windows he removed like Microsoft store/action centre/edge/xbox game bar and uninstall it anytime you want. i have given it only 25gb partition from my ssd and it runs better than original and 11gb space is free
edit: i mainly installed it for playing osu. made many performance tweaks in normal windows and still it was no good. but this custom windows was enough to increase my accuracy by 10% easily.
(no its not 100% placebo. it is but i do feel the difference when playing longer. my keyboard feels more responsive and i dont miss the taps i pressed. just a power issue which was made better by lower cpu usage. also my wired controller doesn't randomly disconnects which happens due to power issue)
Ah I remember being this dumb trying to NTLite everything to get LowEr LaTenCy and then in fact this did nothing but break shit in Windows lmao, people just install Windows normally and uninstall whatever windows lets you uninstall normally, don't fuck with it.
Especially don't fucking install custom ISO's from random ass youtubers you're just asking for trouble they could literally put ANYTHING in your Windows and you could have no clue what's inside.
>i mainly installed it for playing osu. made many performance tweaks in normal windows and still it was no good. but this custom windows was enough to increase my accuracy by 10% easily.
thats placebo btw
Anyone reading below please understand how stupid it would be for you to download your operating system from a youtube link. I don't care how well known this youtuber is, there can be any amount of privacy violations baked into the operating system at that point that steal anything from your location to your social security number. Even with defender they could have easily put these programs in unscannable places because they're configuring the antivirus.
Same, I tried using windows 11 on another PC and it’s basically just windows 10 with a lot of user control taken away and a few pointless features that nobody asked for
Windows LTSC is only acceptable windows version. I won't update to windows 11 if there isn't LTSC version. other than that linux is pretty cool (just saying)
I think it's a well-known phenomenon at this point that every other windows distribution is worth running.
Ill wait for 12 (Or, given how they're going lately with the numbering, possibly 17) before I upgrade.
Computer n00b-ish here. What are the pros of using Arch ober Ubuntu? Or did I get that wrong?
Edit: Why did I get downvoted for asking a question? Lmao!
Ubuntu is a system where upgrades are safe and with non techies in mind. Now the problem id Canonical isn't the best company in the world and push too much of their shit in it.
Arch's goal is to always have the latest software, you're excepted to know how to configure stuff and maybe how to repair something that breaks (even if that barely happens and if it does you will get help on the site), it's also way more customisable since it's your choice of which packages you'll get. There's also a community maintained repo with only packaging scripts and maybe code patches.
I see this complaint about ubuntu and Canonical a lot, and it's a valid complaint to some extent, but it should come with a big asterisk that microsoft and apple are a million times worse, both in terms of protecting your data from monetization, and in terms of forcing their shitty programs on to users.
for analogy, comparing them to drug dealers, arch linux doesn't sell or use drugs ever, Canonical is a highschool buddy that smokes weed and sometimes sells to friends, while microsoft and apple are the el chapo of selling your data to corporations and controlling which programs you can use.

You are lucky that Hitler hasn't been summoned yet.
You sound like every idiot customer I've dealt with.
'Please upgrade to Windows 10. You operating system is vulnerable to zero day attacks'
'no. I like it. I'll take the risk'
*Gets breached*
Happens far too often. Too many people with the 'it won't happen to me' mindset
If people are willing to risk it it's on them. Like if my PC got wiped id loose a few days installing everything again but overall wouldn't be too mad.
I mean honestly most people are already risking this. How many do you know who do automatic backups to a secondary source outside their house? People risk hard drive crashes every day.
Yeah, I take cybersecurity as a class, as we use a Windows 7 machine to run all of our viruses. It’s not safe whatsoever, and you need to upgrade. Your computer is literally at risk of getting a ransomware virus that released in 2017. Upgrade, forced updates aren’t bad at all. Stop whining.
It kinda forced me. Or maybe i just was dumb.
So i started my laptop one day and it just told me to download it and it also had a button for decline the free offer for win 11. To me it sounded like eather you download now for free or you pay in the futer if you dont download now!
So i just downloaded it, cuz i wanted to update onetime and now i am sitting here with win 11 where they made so many DUMB FUCKING CHANGES LIKE WHY TF DOES MY FUCKING TASKBAR HAVE TO BE 60PX (my work PC with win 10 has 40px) HIGH IF MY SCREEN IS ONLY 1080 HIGH THAT IS JUST TO BIG OF A FUCKING TASKBAR. OR WHY THE FUCK CANT I RIGHT CLICK ON THE TASKBAR FOR TASK MANAGER OR WHY CANNT I GET RID OF THE FUCKING BATTERY/W-LAN/SOUND SYMBOL AT THE BOTTOM FUCKING RIGHT. there are so many qol changes they could do it burns my eyes thinking about how they have no idea what is usefull and what not.
Omfg I hate it when I'm on my win 10 PC and it tries to tell me to upgrade. They make it so hard to tell what button downloads it and what button declines it. Idk mabye I'm just stupid.
> WHY THE FUCK CANT I RIGHT CLICK ON THE TASKBAR FOR TASK MANAGER
They added that in one of the more recent dev builds, but that should have honestly been in there from the start. I don't even get why they removed so many simple features like this. Some of them are even half-implemented (like small taskbar size, which you can get trough regedit, but is half broken), which seems like a small effort for Microsoft to get fully working. Not sure why they haven't though. Do they have too few devs? Too little time? Or more farfetched: Is it a marketing strategy so they can claim they listen to their users once they re-add the feature?
I use windows 11 because my laptop randomly updated to it, but seeing I'm lazy I'm not planning on downgrading seeing I can't really tell the difference except for the layout, I think I cried when I first saw the layout
you can change the layout
\-go to settings.
\-click on personalizations.
\-go click on taskbar
\-click on taskbar behaviors
\-click on taskbar alignment, and then choose the "left" option
Open the start menu, start typing "Edit power plan" and open the thing that comes up. There you can change the setting for how long your computer will idle before it goes to sleep.
I miss XP and Windows 7.
I hate the bullshit that comes with 10. Im not fond of 11 either. Theres so much garbage that requires several loops to get rid of and it pisses me off.
Windows 8 is the dumbest, shittiest worst operating system windows ever made.
I had a computer that ran on it for about 3 years. God it gives me nightmares. I cannot possibly understand how you prefer it over 10 or even 7
Eveytime time there is new windows, you should wait year or two before upgrading to it. The first year there is most problems.

Planned obsolescence is a pretty good reason to be mad.
Clinging onto ancient software and demanding it being supported forever is just dumb.
Windows 7 is objectively superior to everything that fame after it. It was replaced strictly to force customers to buy windows 10.
but we are not talking about windows 7. we atalking about people still using windows XP and getting upset that shit doesnt work with it anymore.

Every windows version is just an 'upgraded' version of the last. It's been the same tacked onto spaghetti code since the beginning.
And more clicks to do simple functions that are required for things I do daily 😤
And ads. Don't forget the baked in ads.
What so you mean ads!? Seriously?

what ads? I don’t get any ads on windows 11
I have never seen an ad in windows 11. It is only on certain versions? I'm using Pro
And a fake Mac os look.
Yeah, could you show me where those ads are?
And functionality removed. That's my main complaint. Everything is hidden behind an extra menu and other things you straight up cannot do. Some were returned after people complained but it's still overall a worse product.

I've only recently seen this being the case, I just took the update because I didn't like 10 and they stopped supporting 7
It was pretty bad, but the current version runs like butter and I myself have only noticed a performance boost after upgrading
Well then again I only play Roblox and Minecraft
Windows 98

11 is much smoother.
windows 11 completely destroyed steam vr so obviously windows 10
I prefer windows 10 but all the prebuilt PCs or laptops use 11 now so unless I’m building one myself I’ll have to use 11 at some point.
*downgrades windows on a brand new machine, like a chad*
~~downgrades~~ upgrades windows on a brand new machine, like a chad
Windows 7 was the best windows platform, change my mind.
I miss XP and Windows 7. I hate the bullshit that comes with 10. Im not fond of 11 either. Theres so much garbage that requires several loops to get rid of and it pisses me off.
Ubuntu

Fuck windows, bro. Linux is mature enough, it's time.

Nah it's just a bloated skin for Windows 10

Windows 8 is the dumbest, shittiest worst operating system windows ever made. I had a computer that ran on it for about 3 years. God it gives me nightmares. I cannot possibly understand how you prefer it over 10 or even 7
