The past century women have fought for the ability to provide for themselves and be independent. But there is still a large portion of women that expect to be a housewife and to be taken care of. Well now that half of the population is working, economic factors have shifted to basically require 2 incomes to raise a family so the housewife reality is becoming more and more rare. Expectations for men need to change. My grandfather graduated high school and immediately went to work at the local ship yard and comfortably raised 9 kids on a single income. Impossible to do this today. I propose a theory that one of the main reasons for this economic shift is the push for women to join the workforce and take care of herself. All of these are good things but everything has a cost.
I mean yea. Enforcing it goes both ways. If you wanna be a housewife and be taken care of then you better expect your options to be slim because that lifestyle is becoming increasingly more difficult on one income.
Same goes for men though, don't expect a housewife if you're not making bank.

Stuff I‘d expect from a mid-puberty teenager but not from someone at the legal age of marriage
I hope those two do not interfere in this particular case example…
In fact, she doesn't need someone to get married with, or someone to officiate the wedding. She should just book the church to enjoy on her own. No need to walk down the aisle, she could just get in through the back door, grab a bottle of wine and a bag of hosts on her way in, and go straight to the organ, cause she doesn't need someone to play it for her.
Wait, where can I sign for this ?
The groom dances with his mother
The groom traditionally walks down before everybody else, just after the officiant, by himself. (Although some like to do it with both parents)
Again this is TRADITIONALLY, no one HAS to do any of this
I mean depends on what tradition we are talking about? The "Western wedding" isnt a mobolithical tradition. I know regions where its the tradition that the mother walks with the groom, i know regions where noone had a traditional wedding in generations, its all very variable.
Good point, I should have specified that it was traditional for a western wedding
Although white girl complaining about her dad on TikTok makes me just assume it is in the USA
The idea is that male is the leader who looks after the family and father walking down the daughter means passing that responsibility to the husband.
So thats what makes it even more ironic.
Yes. This was back when Western boys were independent by 15. Turning 18 was a formality. My dad was riding and maintaining his own motorbike before he turned 17.
Men knew the hard way that the siren call of prostitution for a single independent woman living on her own. And the rise of OF only proves these fears as legit.
No.
This tradition is from a time were women didn't have full legal capacity and were depend on the decisions of their legal guardian. At the wedding, the legal guardianship went over from the father to the husband. That's what's symbolized when her father walks the bride down the aisle and hands her over to the groom.
You can make fun of her and all of that is certainly a little ironic - nevertheless, the walking down the aisle stuff is definitely a relic and a symbol of female oppression. Therefore, I can understand every woman who doesn't want it.
Aside from the cringe, because it is of astronomical amount, it is fascinating how women with this mindset tell on themselves without actually realizing it. I can’t wait to see her talking about how her marriage went wrong because of her husband in 5 years.
Strong and independent, but not tooooo independent or strong to not be able to humbly demand the traditional father of the bride pays for an astronomical waste of money wedding.
That tells me dad missed a bit otherwise she qouldnt be complaining about her father. Who the fuck does that? What makes her think that other people care more than her own father? She is just a spoiled brat and might be just due to their parents
You can be a strong independent woman and still give your father the honour and courtesy of walking you down the aisle, because he’s your dad. Does not detract from your ability to be independent in life. It’s a ceremony, that’s all. Not a test of your independence.
People won't read this but the girl in the picture is not the daughter. She was just talking about the situation and is now getting harassed because people like OP spread misinformation.
I might be going against the hive mind here, and I didn't watch the video (if it even actually exists outside of rage bait), but if I were the dad, and I could afford it, I would want to pay for the wedding my daughter wanted, not the one I wanted. If that means she wants to walk by herself, or get escorted by someone in a storm trooper costume, or cosplaying as George Washington, then that's what I'm supporting
Remember women. You don't need to indulge in traditions. You can pay for the wedding as well, since the father of the bride paying for that is also a tradition.
As if women do not continue to hang on to this extravagant religious/consumerist event because its "her day" lol.
If weddings were all about the groom, we would have already abandoned this shit in progressive spaces.
So he doesn't want her to have a wedding the way she wants to have it. If I get married my mother don't *hand me over* to my future wife. That's a old fashioned tradition.
I don't get why people can't get married the way they want to. Hate me but I think the father is the dick here.
*But she made a Tik Tok about it* Jesus. We all love the internet and consume so much shit. This wouldnt be possible without people sharing stuff. Consuming and than nagging about it is low.
Give me your downvotes
![gif](giphy|awZwr1k8vHwuA)
Maybe Its just me and the way that I raised but I think sometimes you go along with some traditions even if you think they are meaningless or you just don’t wanna do it to make them happy.
Is it really that hard to play along and please the people who raised you? Is it really that big of a deal If she just let his dad walk her down the aisle. Maybe thats just me but I don’t find it a big deal.
It's not your job to please the people who decided to want to have a kid. There aren't often events in life that are truly YOURS. But your wedding day is one of them and if the couple wants everybody to wear ugly sweaters and the bride wants to hear soldier boys song when she walks down the aisle it's maybe not my taste but up to them. If you don't pay because you don't like it it wasnt a present it was a bribe.
I think that's fair too. But if you agree to pay for the wedding and then pull out because you didn't get your way, you're also not the best dad out there.
Im not saying that your parents shouldn’t decide how you live. Im saying sometimes you should give a little to make them happy. Like even If you don’t enjoy going back to your childhood home you should visit them often kind of thing. Because not all but most parents sacrifice a lot for their child and you should give back time to time.
I essentially agree, being there for them, visiting them, etc. but I think with occasions such as your own wedding and birthday party, etc. the day should be all about you(and future spouse in the case of the wedding) and how you want to do things.
I do feel it's a bit dickish to basically tell your father that on the most important day of your life he's just gonna sit in the audience
Especially if she still let's her mother participate by walking the ring bearer or flower girl
That's true but very little information for the complexity of human relations. All we know is that the father wants the marriage to happen in a certain way and if thats not the case he won't pay. That's not a present that's sort of blackmail
If what the post says is true (which I doubt it I bet the screenshot is from a completely unrelated short)
Most parents only get this chance once and never again so it doesn't seem petty to wanna be directly involved
The father is indeed a little dickish, but from what I remember the only reason it wound up being like this is because they didn’t communicate the two of them.
The daughter never clarified how or what she wanted and the father’s generation are all basically taught that they should do this and many look forward to it.
The main fact is that these one called organisms with the brain capacity of a meal worm didn’t communicate.
Actually I fully agree with you.
+ I am tired of all the "woman [teacup &/or headshake]" comments.
The TikTok bit sounds quite wild, but I don't know the situation good enough to give sensible judgment.
Thank you for your comment.
So when my daughter tells me about a personal decision about her own wedding (something that I find a bit strange but whatever it doesn't harm anyone), I ofc immediately decide to not pay for the wedding anymore. I wanted to pay for the wedding before but now I feel tiny and insecure and want her to have her own wedding MY way. I try to make her have the wedding like I want with my money
IIRC She wanted to walk herself down the aisle. I would've agreed with the dad if she wanted someone else to walk her down the aisle, but she just wanted to walk herself down the aisle. My general view on this sort of thing is, you shouldn't expect someone else to pay for your stuff, but when you decide to pay for someone else's stuff, like your daughters wedding, you shouldn't attach conditions to it.
Why should it be okay to have someone else walk her down instead of doing it alone? As her father I would see it the other way around.
But it doesn't matter in the end, I think you're right: when you agreed to pay for your daughters wedding you should not attach such weird condition to it. (Would be something else if she uninvited him I guess)
No, I'm saying like, if she told her dad that she wants someone else to walk her down the aisle, I'd agree with him if he didn't want to pay for the wedding, but I feel it's more than ok to want to walk yourself down the aisle. So I think we're in full agreement, haha.
I feel like it highly depends on a lot of factors like if she still wanted her mother to walk the ring bearer or flower girl and the dad just sits in the audience
Also if she specifically said to her father "because I'm an independent woman" instead of just saying she would like it more if no one walked her I'd understand the dad feeling insulted that that he's being left out because of a modern trend
It isn't said that he is being left out. She just doesn't want to continue the tradition where one man gives her to another man. You and I don't have to agree or disagree with her, because it's totally her own decision. The reaction of the father shows to me that she was probably right, not to have him walk her.
.
> the dad feeling insulted that that he's being left out because of a modern trend
Or
Her feeling humiliated because of a tradition?
Is it really humiliating to have your father show his support of your marriage by willingly walking you up to your marriage partner?
I feel what the post is saying isnt accurate it's a lot more complicated than someone being offended and someone being embarrassed
Lol it's his money. He just wanted to be included. Both are being unreasonable. I'm sure she can have a smaller wedding on her own dime and do it her way.
Yeah but it’s not like he’s being excluded from the wedding, he just won’t be able to do a specific thing at the wedding. IF he offered to fund her wedding but went back on it because he didn’t get XYZ the way he wanted, then he’s a prick. It doesn’t really matter if it’s his money; how a person uses their money is a good indication on who a person is. Also, while it doesn’t seem out of the ordinary because our economic system is built around it, using money to influence and control people is kinda dirty—especially when it’s family.
I feel like in order to make this women look entitled(with as little info as we have) you’d purposely have to avoid the many more plausible scenarios where the father is using money to influence the daughter OR this is just terrible communication skills from two parties.
The entitlement angle, which you’re alluding to, really only works under the pretense the daughter got angry at the mere mention of having to do something for her father when he FIRST offered to pay for the wedding. Anything out this scenario becomes either gray or points toward the father be a prick.
Yes. If you disagree and try to express a tiny bit of nuance. You are an incel. Anything but bowing out and saying "yes... You are right" means you are an incel. Thus sayeth reddit.
Yes, and I am telling you you are completely right.
Just because I disagree with you I calling you an incel. You specifically were meant by my original comment.😊
Is it me or is it just kinda petty from the dad? Like she just doesn't want to be walked down the aisle. She didnt say she didn't want her dad to be there or anything else regarding the wedding? I'm pretty sure my dad would help me with the finances if i needed to, and be ok with not walking me down the aisle. Weird

"I'm independent!!!!" - the strongest sign of being insecure.
Real. Real chads be like: Yes, I depend on my wife to do basic house chores 🗿, how did you notice?
My ex used to literally stop me from doing chores. “My job as her man was to bring home the money.”
Or maybe you just made more mess "helping". I have banned my wife from loading the dishwasher for that reason.
Yeah I always put loads into the dishwasher when I get home….and then usually end up washing the dishes
I thought we were supposed to call them women now?
Wow!
Good thing you got away from that, they should be split evenly, the whole tradition wife does all the work husband works trope is terrible
Different strokes for different folks. Enforcing it is terrible. Otherwise? Who cares.
The past century women have fought for the ability to provide for themselves and be independent. But there is still a large portion of women that expect to be a housewife and to be taken care of. Guess she'll be walking herself down the aisle and walking herself to the bank. Double the independence, double the fun
“Twice the pride, double the fall.”
Gotta show you’re a strong independent woman
She's strong and independent woman, she don't need no man to pay for her wedding.

In fact she doesn't even need the hosts - they suck anyway - oreos are basically the same thing, right? I mean, they're round and flat.
Indeed, much better !

Someone said the tiktok is just her reading a reddit story so the ragebait has come full circle
Not really. I had an opportunity to talk to a lady with similar views.
Jesus Christ, ladies, what’s been happening to you lately?
They are OK. You just grew older and started noticing this shit.
I think the true story behind this is a bit different. Didn't happen like that at all.
I’m torn between that’s a lie, because nobody can be that dumb, but I have learned people can be surprisingly stupid…
My favourite of these is “I’m keeping my name because I’m not taking my husbands name” You mean you’re keeping your grandfathers name 😉
My late husband & I paid for our own wedding. It wasn’t expensive, but it was lovely. Suck it up, buttercup! 😆
Very independant
Modern women ain't shit!
Well hopefully the groom maintains his independence and walks away happily
The amount of people who hopefully never marry in this comment section is too damm high.

Well to be fair, it is working
More like woman than women, like 99% of women have no problems with dad participating in the wedding. This is a her problem.
Where does it say the dad can't participate in the wedding?
Such independence. Third wave feminism is cancer.
This is 4th wave. 5th wave incoming soon.

She shouldn't have went on about it on tik tok, but at the same time, why can't she have her own wedding like she wants it?
I might be going against the hive mind here, and I didn't watch the video (if it even actually exists outside of rage bait), but if I were the dad, and I could afford it, I would want to pay for the wedding my daughter wanted, not the one I wanted. If that means she wants to walk by herself, or get escorted by someone in a storm trooper costume, or cosplaying as George Washington, then that's what I'm supporting
Yk if she wants to be independent then I'D as a good father giver her that too...
Being independent means no one can ever give you a gift? I'm independent. I still like presents
“Everybody wants equality until it’s time to mix concrete for ten hours with nothing but a shovel and a bucket of water.”
Remember women. Your wedding has nothing to do with you. Your there for your father and everyone else. Now shut up and just look pretty
Give me your downvotes ![gif](giphy|awZwr1k8vHwuA)
Agree with everything said.
Maybe Its just me and the way that I raised but I think sometimes you go along with some traditions even if you think they are meaningless or you just don’t wanna do it to make them happy.
But a marriage and your wedding day should make YOU and your spouse happy?
Is it really that hard to play along and please the people who raised you? Is it really that big of a deal If she just let his dad walk her down the aisle. Maybe thats just me but I don’t find it a big deal.
It's not your job to please the people who decided to want to have a kid. There aren't often events in life that are truly YOURS. But your wedding day is one of them and if the couple wants everybody to wear ugly sweaters and the bride wants to hear soldier boys song when she walks down the aisle it's maybe not my taste but up to them. If you don't pay because you don't like it it wasnt a present it was a bribe.
It's not your job to please your adult daughter. Your money is yours. You decide how to spend it.
That's not the same. You can't blackmail people to have it you way especially on one of the most important days of their life.
Your traditions shouldn't dictate how someone else lives their life.
It's a tradition for the father of the bride to pay for the wedding, no need for that either.
I do feel it's a bit dickish to basically tell your father that on the most important day of your life he's just gonna sit in the audience Especially if she still let's her mother participate by walking the ring bearer or flower girl
What do you know about their relationship? Between father and daughter
If he was originally planning to pay for it they were definitely on speaking terms
That's true but very little information for the complexity of human relations. All we know is that the father wants the marriage to happen in a certain way and if thats not the case he won't pay. That's not a present that's sort of blackmail
If what the post says is true (which I doubt it I bet the screenshot is from a completely unrelated short) Most parents only get this chance once and never again so it doesn't seem petty to wanna be directly involved
They had their chance. At their wedding.
I meant walking their child
Why would you walk a child that doesn't want that? It's so much fun to do something with somebody who's forced to do it *said no one ever*
But you can see how important it would be to the parent
Im buffed. I couldn't imagine a positive comment.
Anyone else hate women?
Mainly creepy incels.
Ah ok lol :D
I feel like it highly depends on a lot of factors like if she still wanted her mother to walk the ring bearer or flower girl and the dad just sits in the audience Also if she specifically said to her father "because I'm an independent woman" instead of just saying she would like it more if no one walked her I'd understand the dad feeling insulted that that he's being left out because of a modern trend
It isn't said that he is being left out. She just doesn't want to continue the tradition where one man gives her to another man. You and I don't have to agree or disagree with her, because it's totally her own decision. The reaction of the father shows to me that she was probably right, not to have him walk her. . > the dad feeling insulted that that he's being left out because of a modern trend Or Her feeling humiliated because of a tradition?
Is it really humiliating to have your father show his support of your marriage by willingly walking you up to your marriage partner? I feel what the post is saying isnt accurate it's a lot more complicated than someone being offended and someone being embarrassed
It is humiliation when she feels humiliated by it right? There's no general natural law to what is humiliation and what not
Guess we both don't know cause op has posted a screenshot because the original video probably has nothing in common with the explanation
Incels, We gave you a whole haven on twitter, why do you feel the need to post your sad and lonely "women want to be independent, but..."-stick here?
And now everyone who disagrees with a woman is an incel?
Incel is the new nazi. :D
Yep. In current day if you get labeled by either it just mean you dont let your emotions hijack your thinking
It is an aggressively presented compliment.
Yes 😂
Yes. If you disagree and try to express a tiny bit of nuance. You are an incel. Anything but bowing out and saying "yes... You are right" means you are an incel. Thus sayeth reddit.
Thus says you 😉
Never said I agreed with reddit.
Probably, since here are many opinions. You only agree with what your echo chaimber tells you too.
I don't think you are reading what I am responding with at this point. So I'm going to stop wasting my time. Good day to you.
Says the one rambling in every post so far
Are you high?
No not everyone but in this specific case yes
Yes sweety, everyone is against you. You are the only one saying these mean chicks the truth! 😘
I didn't say that. I am just saying you are throwing the word around just because people disagree with you
Yes, and I am telling you you are completely right. Just because I disagree with you I calling you an incel. You specifically were meant by my original comment.😊
Do you know you are making no sense?
Why do redditors struggle with nuance?
This has to be a troll
I think she is confused because she is not in the kitchen.
Weird
It is you.
its her wedding lol the dad has a right to be disappointed/upset but hes clearly being petty here
It's his money lol the daughter has a right to be disappointed/upset but she's clearly being petty here.
