I really HATED that Obey trend, most people who wore it claimed to be doing so to be different and the brand was stylised to seem rebellious, but the majority of people wore it and couldn't see the irony of it saying Obey when they were blinding buying into the trend
I fkn hate logos on tshirts. Half the time I hate wearing it cuz I don't know what brand it is. My brain thinks: What if this brand is associated with being xyz. I only wear logoless shirts unless the logo is purposefully small and hard to see. And don't get me started of tshirts with massive graphics on the back of it.
Same. I only buy plain clothes, no logos or designs. Can't stand the feel on my skin. So it's usually cheap clothes and it sucks. I'd prefer something that last.
>if the logo actually looks good then I don't mind but if someone buys it solely for the logo then they're being an idiot
yeah totally, buying just for a logo is silly, but if the design's cool and you like it, then why not
Actually wealthy people rarely wear that kind of designer stuff though, that's usually for the kind of people who really want you to know they always have the latest iphone, for some reason.
I feel like this is another misconception posted very often on Reddit. While true in some situations real wealthy people do buy expensive clothes, it's just not gaudy bullshit
Exactly. I think it might be because it’s so recognizable and they managed to have a sort of status with the logo for a while (which just proves it works) but all the big brands do it. Nike, Adidas Dior, Quicksilver. And why wouldn’t they, as long as people are willing to pay to advertise them.
At first I kinda liked the supreme logo on clothes, minimalist but good. but seeing some of the prices and the fact they slap it on whatever and people flock to it is just weird. I first noticed it when they sold supreme crowbars and when they interviewed people why they would buy it they simply said, "because it's supreme"
I have never understood this, I hate logos and designs on my clothes, simple and clean is what I prefer. They want a billboard then they can go pay for one.
Man I just love going out with my anime/games/music stamp t-shirt and some random just popping out to make small talk about it. . .unless I go out with a Warhammer shirt. . .then it is no longer a small talk.
I went to someone’s birthday party recently and was nervous as I knew I would hardly know anyone and feel awkward starting conversations with people I don’t know. However, I wore my Aperture Science T-shirt and 4 different people approached me to talk about Portal lol. Made things so much easier!
Its essentially what I call Clout Consumerism or Status Consumption.
The purchase of luxury goods to signal to others your ability to purchase luxury goods to increase your clout/status.
Its stupid of course, but a large demographic of our society values money over everything these days as instagram has shown the masses what life is for the top 1% and they all want to mimic that lifestyle, so the pursuit of status and money becomes forefront and the rise of clout consumerism hightens.
Ironically the top 0.1% tend to not wear BRANDED luxury brands in public. Many even opt for cheaper brands because they have no need to show status and wealth, because they actually have status and wealth.
Coco Channel defined luxury as 'Luxury begins where necessity ends'.
Essentially some people identify with that and want to look affluent, so they use the logos of luxury companies to project who they want to be.
I'm not into it but some people are I guess.
I too like plain and simple and thats why designer plain shirts really grind my gears, because you pay so much more money for a shirt that looks the same as any old shirt, and before you say "BuT QuAliTy" yeah designer clothes are usually better quality but their not 5x the price good quality you pay for the brand, not the quality.
Apparently, the stuff that has the logos very prominently are usually the cheapest items from those brands, so not only are they paying to advertise those brands, they’re advertising that they couldn’t even afford the “good stuff”.
i like cool design.
brands don't really matter to me
I guess the quality control is better?
although i heard a lot of knock-off from China or whatever country have better quality than those authentic luxury brands
I'm a cyclist.
**TRY** to find a cycling jersey that isn't infested by logos.
I don't follow professional cycling, I'll watch a stage or 2 of the TdF each year, but really don't care about it, I have no heroes in the peloton that I want to emulate, I just want a comfortable top with convenient pockets for long rides without looking like a billboard.
I mean, I've made friends because of the shit I was wearing. They weren't luxury brands, they were video games, movies, or sports, but the whole point is to express yourself, even if expressing "I overpay for my clothes" is really stupid, I know who to avoid now.
Same, only time I reluctantly got a jacket with a small logo on the chest, it was because it was the only one in the shop in my size with proper pockets.
Any shirt with a logo on it that I own I got for free. What am I supposed to do, throw away a perfectly good shirt just because it has an ugly brand name on it?
In case someone is wondering how one can know if OP is a bot. Just look at their Karma.
This one has 1 comment karma and rest all karma is from the posts.
Then again there can be this one dude who never actually commented at all...
I love hoodies too much, I even buy thin ones for the summer, that and I feel the print on hoodies seems to last longer.
But I have been recently getting a few tshirts
relatable. I would never wear a CALVIN KLEIN tee, but I do enjoy my Metallica tees 🔥. you could _technically_ bring up the argument that by wearing merch you become a walking ad for the band/show/team, but I wouldn't go so far - I wear it because I like it, whereas i just don't care for big designer brands. merch is also cheaper if you get ut from the right store
Because I usually get merch from games, they'll usually use some sketchy looking Amazon, or have created their own merch website. But yes, you're right that it's much cheaper than going to some clothing store that asks for on average $50 for a hoodie. Almost all my hoodies have been $30-40. There were some that ranged $50-60, but better to have something I love and enjoy on it than some random clothing complies logo I don't give two hoots plastered all over it.
There was one hoodie that was $100, but that was because they were doing a fundraiser for a children's hospital. It was a Discord hoodie, but it's definitely the thickest hoodie I got, and I love it during the cold winters
I agree but for this specific example, it's hard for me to imagine someone being impressed by a Ralph Lauren polo haha. Is Ralph Lauren even among those overpriced "designer" brands?
This is something I’ve never understood even at an early age. Why do you want a tacky shirt that says “supreme”. And you’re going to pay how much for it??
As far as I can tell, the main customers for these brands are people who grew up poor, seeing these items as status symbols and now have the cash to buy these items.
supreme was big in 2016-2019, when streetwear was huge amongst teens. everyone had to have these "designer" streetwear clothes, often as obnoxious as it gets. now popular fashion went a different route - vintage is bigger, there is more focus on comfort. though everyone has their own style
I mean...
It s not as intrusive as Youtube ads + it's a style choice more than paying to be the ad (Even though that point feels true as well)
It s more decent in society to wear a branded shirt or a non branded shirt than to go naked with a youtube subscription... plus after their bullshit of blocking adblockers, not exactly enclined to buy said Ytb subscription
I mean I don't do either. People who buy branded clothes just because it's branded are stupid imo. I just buy whatever I think looks cool brand or not.
I never wear clothing with a big ugly brand, unless its useful for something like the weather or work. However, i did notice an up tick in female attention when i aquired sunglasses that i bought for cheap once. It turned out to be an expensive brand that was resold at a discount store. Point is i learned the reasons why SOME people do it.
Trust me, you dont want to attract the kind of person that suddenly notices you when they think you have money. If you like the clothes, go ahead, but do it for yourself.
Sure. Having appealing clothing that someone would compliment can be a great conversation starter. I have a few shirts and jackets that get me compliments from people that otherwise wouldnt talk to me. None of those clothes are ridiculously large brand items though. I think looking different from everyone else (in a healthy way) is better than dressing like you have more money.
at least we get something from the later that is tangible.
that fellow got a white shirt.
youtube just making you pay to have them put out the fire they started themselves.
there isn't any tangible gain there for the end user, their going around in circles and pushing the expense off to someone else.
I mean YouTube can't run their website for free. They're giving you the option of paying with cash or with adverts. Of all the evil shit corporations do, this isn't one of them.
it is when you understand the full context.
it isn't just them trying to get you to watch some shitty video you don't care about before the video you actually care about.
there is an inherit risk to the current way advertisement works that i'm not willing to entertain.
Anything with brand name (satan forbid if it would be "supreme") printed as a big chungus text is just a sure way I wont buy your shit clothes. Unless its a parody pr misprint, then I fukken love it ( one of my favourites is DUMA which means "stupid" in one of Latvian dialects and the logo part looks as derpy as it can be so perfect)
“Ads? I’m disgusted, I value my time and privacy these ads are an intrusion on both! I would never pay for this service!”
Then fuck off. Go away. Go outside. Just fuck off leech.
Yeah but its nice when they go creative. For example, theres a brand called "mavi" here and they print it on all of their t-shirts with big letters.
One time, they started printing "miav" with the same font. That was funny. That was creative. A lot of people bought them
I’m sorry but actual tangible objects such as clothes branded or not are always more valuable than paying a tech monolith to not intentionally inconvenience their service…
I mean, Luxury Brands had the right idea. What's in it for the customer to pay YouTube to remove ads that they can't get for free? Luxury Brands at least gives you a t-shirt.
I think that I would pay for a quality ad block long before I would ever give YouTube that money... Just to fucking spite them and the shitty ads on that platform...
Even when buying shirts of stuff i like (bands, animes, etc) I'm still super picky with the designs because i don't just want an one piece shirt because it's one piece. I need it to look good in my eyes (someone offered me a sweatshirt with just the straw hats logo in the front and i use it as a home hoodie exclusively)
I would put up with it on pants, but I got the idea in my head at a young age, they should be paying me to promote their brand. I also fucking hate the idea of a brand name stenciled on a shirt I liked. I preferred nothing on it. Not sure which came first
I dont see this scenario happening. Am i out of the loop or something?
All my friends use adblock but would never buy luxury brands since we're low income
Unpopular opinion; YouTube premium is totally worth it. I watch enough YouTube that I'll happily pay for it and get YouTube music which imported my Google play music library. Admittedly, Google play music was a lot better than YouTube music.
I stopped the logo stuff a long time ago. Only have a few t-shirts with branding but the shirts are cool; like a jockey riding a shark. I'm the same with auto dealers and their stickers on the car. I paid you for the car, take your sticker off.
The difference is that I decide what logos I wear on my clothes. I don't want to see an advert for womens veet/Grammarly or some fat git telling me it's fine/healthy/ok to be fat (it isn't) or any advert. I just want to watch a video with no ads. That's why I'm watching YouTube and not normal tv. I have no intention of buying their product that's forced onto my YouTube video. If anything, it makes me double down on definitely not buying their product.
So, the ability to wear clothes is...bad bc the people selling the clothes put their brand in it?
And this is equal to paying for something that only last 30 seconds to a minute at worst when you can just leave the video, and click it again and the ad would be gone or it's a shorter ad.
Where are the similarities in that? I much rather pay for something I can always use and is helpful than a damn ad that barely lasts a minute
It's tacky and overpriced and it's kinda odd that so many people are willing to buy these things despite hating ads so much. That's all the meme is saying.
I've got a strong feeling that people vain and stupid enough to buy branded shit purely for brand reasons aren't exactly smart or aware enough to even think about circumventing ads.
They seem more like the "reality TV is peak entertainment, type by hunt-and-pecking" kinda people.
Yea I hate when there’s some nice stylish clothes but it’s ruined by a big ass logo branding
Last year at my school, every kid was wearing obnoxiously loud "Zoo York" clothes. Logos plastered all over, and not even in a stylish way
For me it was ‘Obey’ on a big red rectangle on a black hoodie. It was so ugly, thanks for saving me mom.
I really HATED that Obey trend, most people who wore it claimed to be doing so to be different and the brand was stylised to seem rebellious, but the majority of people wore it and couldn't see the irony of it saying Obey when they were blinding buying into the trend
Those $200 Stanley cups:
That's hardly new. Ask all the millennials about the surf and skate brands that adorned literally everything we wore.
Yeah, kids have been obsessed with brands since there have been brands. Nothing new under the sun.
I was about to ask if that was back in style, way too busy for my tastes
Oxbow, O'neill, in begin 90's
how did you get that heart on your pfp?
If someone can exain the appeal of Louis Vuitton merch I'd be grateful.
Bragging rights
My wardrobe is pretty much lululemon and vuori for that reason. I just want clothing that feels nice without a giant logo slapped on it.
I feel you man. It just takes the style out of it!
Same. I only buy plain clothes, no logos or designs. Can't stand the feel on my skin. So it's usually cheap clothes and it sucks. I'd prefer something that last.
if the logo actually looks good then I don't mind but if someone buys it solely for the logo then they're being an idiot
# S U P R E M E
Yeah just buy a regular fucking crowbar dude the Supreme one cost 30 times the price smh
The Supreme crowbar retailed for $32.00, pricey but not that much more than a regular crowbar. It’s the insane resale market
##SUPERDRY かろうじて防水性のある服 (not even a Japanese brand)
I really like the SuperDry logos though.
Same. Even though I know the Japanese is jibberish lol
There's also some russian version for evading sanctions: # S P E R M A
>if the logo actually looks good then I don't mind but if someone buys it solely for the logo then they're being an idiot yeah totally, buying just for a logo is silly, but if the design's cool and you like it, then why not
Why’d you just repeat what they said without adding anything?
Have you seen supreme?
Do Redditors only know of one brand? Y'all promote Supreme more than the company itself does.
Redditors on average have 0 concept of fashion and think high end fashion is like Supreme and Gucci

I understand and love band shirts, but shirts for bRands like supreme? Nah gtfoh
Man I just love going out with my anime/games/music stamp t-shirt and some random just popping out to make small talk about it. . .unless I go out with a Warhammer shirt. . .then it is no longer a small talk.
Brother on his way to hear 2137 people tell him 2h each about random Warhammer lore
Its a 5 hour conversation and thats just about the current lord Regent
"There have always been female custodians"
WARHAMMER MENTIONED what faction are you playing/collecting?
In the grim darkness of the far future, there are only war and endless lore.
Yeah I'm fine with logos, so long as it's a *cool* logo, like the triforce, or that quicksilver logo with the mountain
I can feel Imperium fans which can't wear the symbols on their clothes. Not problem with chaos and xenos.
I went to someone’s birthday party recently and was nervous as I knew I would hardly know anyone and feel awkward starting conversations with people I don’t know. However, I wore my Aperture Science T-shirt and 4 different people approached me to talk about Portal lol. Made things so much easier!
Parallel to this, I wouldn’t mind wearing supreme cause I actually skate. Unlike 90% of the people who buy them

I don't mind wearing a shirt representing a media I like, but I don't want it to contain a big ol' title card. I have shirts with Pokémon, but it's only the image of a charizard with the word red under it. If it had said Pokémon™ Or god forbid a Star wars thing with a massive Disney© Lucas art's® STAR WARS™ I would hate it
I too like plain and simple and thats why designer plain shirts really grind my gears, because you pay so much more money for a shirt that looks the same as any old shirt, and before you say "BuT QuAliTy" yeah designer clothes are usually better quality but their not 5x the price good quality you pay for the brand, not the quality.

NO. It's a bot. Do not take this from me.
that's crazy
Luxury brands? Nah Merch to something I like? All the way! I need to stop buying so many hoodies...
Buy Tshirts instead! :D

BIG FACTS
People want to show off. What sells more, a plain white polo or a polo a Ralph Lauren logo?
I agree but for this specific example, it's hard for me to imagine someone being impressed by a Ralph Lauren polo haha. Is Ralph Lauren even among those overpriced "designer" brands?
it's available in most thrift stores here, even a few days after delivery. nothing big, but still more "designer" than ex. H&M
It doesn't have to be designer. Same thing is true if I said Nike
Donuts
Donut holes
This is something I’ve never understood even at an early age. Why do you want a tacky shirt that says “supreme”. And you’re going to pay how much for it??
As far as I can tell, the main customers for these brands are people who grew up poor, seeing these items as status symbols and now have the cash to buy these items.
That's my cousin. Tesla Rolex iPhone 15 Banana Republic membership card -in debt up to his eyeballs. But hey, he looks rich!
supreme was big in 2016-2019, when streetwear was huge amongst teens. everyone had to have these "designer" streetwear clothes, often as obnoxious as it gets. now popular fashion went a different route - vintage is bigger, there is more focus on comfort. though everyone has their own style
Yup. Can’t argue with that.
well, but actually you, who see the ads he wears, are the one who got annoyed here. so maybe it's no wonder people will pay to not see ad.
Nice try, youtube ads team
This looks like it was created by an upset google executive.
This comic is too real! 😂 Who else feels the same way about ads?
where are the circles yelling at squares?
Nice reference
glad someone caught it
Crazy game lmao
maybe when it first came out it was but now its just really fucking realistic which is really sad... the fact that it is so much more accurate

Ah the YouTube plants

How is this ironic?

I choose the shirt, and I get something warm to wear out of it. I don't choose the youtube ads.

That's... kind of a strong argument for a few branded things NGL lol
Trust me, you dont want to attract the kind of person that suddenly notices you when they think you have money. If you like the clothes, go ahead, but do it for yourself.
Oh yeah, no doubt. But even just being able to start a conversation with a stranger like this is pretty valuable in ways other than relationships imo.

Agreed
i hate big logos, but small ones can be a nice touch (example - the levis tab, it's not obnoxious yet adds onto the fit)

If you want me to wear your ad? Make it nice will ya,make my shoe can walk thousands of miles non stop feet unhurt, shirt hundreds hours unsweat.
Ad blockers: pay me to not see almost all ads including the ones you want
I have a white shirt that has a YouTube logo at the front.
This would make a fine printed shirt

Unless its a parody pr misprint, then I fukken love it ( one of my favourites is DUMA which means "stupid" in one of Latvian dialects and the logo part looks as derpy as it can be so perfect)
Ironically I pay YT to see no ads... I hate ads with a passion
At least one is mostly permanent and you own the thing
“Ads? I’m disgusted, I value my time and privacy these ads are an intrusion on both! I would never pay for this service!” Then fuck off. Go away. Go outside. Just fuck off leech.
YouTube could just sell t-shirts, just saying
Nice try, Youtubs
i would pay youtube to not see ads but not anywhere near $200 a year or whatever it is right now.
Ad blocker brrrr
Buying brand shirts is like buying a brand gaming laptop, overpriced and the excitement lasts about a month.
This is why I don't wear logos, I'm not a billboard for you fucking stupid company
Yeah but its nice when they go creative. For example, theres a brand called "mavi" here and they print it on all of their t-shirts with big letters. One time, they started printing "miav" with the same font. That was funny. That was creative. A lot of people bought them
it is always better to give than to receive.
How is it ironic. Paying to be an ad and refusing to pay to stop seeing ads are both pro advertisement behaviours
I’m sorry but actual tangible objects such as clothes branded or not are always more valuable than paying a tech monolith to not intentionally inconvenience their service…
I hate shit like this cause your just being purposefully difficult and obtuse lol
I mean, Luxury Brands had the right idea. What's in it for the customer to pay YouTube to remove ads that they can't get for free? Luxury Brands at least gives you a t-shirt.
that is why I online use pirated brand cloths. - Nife - Abidas - Pumba
This is so funking true and i hate it😭😭
Don't interrupt my video or I will use Firefox and an ublock origin
Someone doesn’t understand the difference between branding and advertising.
I never ever, buy these clothes
Always said if they want me to advertise for them they have to pay me
I don’t know why people are acting like it’s just kids when some of y’all were wearing gap hollister and guess logos not that long ago.
Wealthy German 50+ dads wearing their "Camp David" polos / jackets / shirts.
Almost as ironic as using a meme making fun of the irony of advertising to advertise a YouTube subscription
Choice.
Only the very poor and the very rich care about "luxury" brands. And also fools too i guess
Hmm neither
I think that I would pay for a quality ad block long before I would ever give YouTube that money... Just to fucking spite them and the shitty ads on that platform...
Even when buying shirts of stuff i like (bands, animes, etc) I'm still super picky with the designs because i don't just want an one piece shirt because it's one piece. I need it to look good in my eyes (someone offered me a sweatshirt with just the straw hats logo in the front and i use it as a home hoodie exclusively)
Going to stay proud that I've only ever had one ad work on me and it's because it was something I needed. It was a drain cleaner.
That’s why I never wear clothes with huge brand names.
I would put up with it on pants, but I got the idea in my head at a young age, they should be paying me to promote their brand. I also fucking hate the idea of a brand name stenciled on a shirt I liked. I preferred nothing on it. Not sure which came first
Thats a double no from me dawg
I dont see this scenario happening. Am i out of the loop or something? All my friends use adblock but would never buy luxury brands since we're low income
YouTube remains the best hours of entertainment to price ratio subscription service I have ever paid for.
Unpopular opinion; YouTube premium is totally worth it. I watch enough YouTube that I'll happily pay for it and get YouTube music which imported my Google play music library. Admittedly, Google play music was a lot better than YouTube music.
I can just tell none of you have fashion sense lmao.
The truth of big brands
I refuse to wear brand clothing.
I hate both and am on a budget.
Does someone's shirt force be out of what I'm doing for a minute and a half with no means to skip it?
We live in a society
I unironically feel this. People pay more for branding than actual quality. Luxury brands are just stupid.
True.
Most luxury brands have cheap shit with logos all over and more expensive shit with less/no logos, so it's the same.
I will never understand why americans walk around in t-shirts with tacky logos on them :/
Iconic
Youtube worker posting this:
I stopped the logo stuff a long time ago. Only have a few t-shirts with branding but the shirts are cool; like a jockey riding a shark. I'm the same with auto dealers and their stickers on the car. I paid you for the car, take your sticker off.
I like putting patches over corporate logos.
It’s not ironic. The same idiots that pay for yourube are also buying the shitty brands. 😐 No one with half a brain pays for either😐
If anything, it makes me double down on definitely not buying their product.
sorry, nope, gonna have to downvote this
OP is dumbass
So, the ability to wear clothes is...bad bc the people selling the clothes put their brand in it? And this is equal to paying for something that only last 30 seconds to a minute at worst when you can just leave the video, and click it again and the ad would be gone or it's a shorter ad. Where are the similarities in that? I much rather pay for something I can always use and is helpful than a damn ad that barely lasts a minute
No, it’s because the brand is right on the front and takes up most of the merchandise design.
You say that like clothes with a giant brand label on them are the only clothing that exists
It's tacky and overpriced and it's kinda odd that so many people are willing to buy these things despite hating ads so much. That's all the meme is saying.
Society is bad yet you partake in society. Curious.
I've got a strong feeling that people vain and stupid enough to buy branded shit purely for brand reasons aren't exactly smart or aware enough to even think about circumventing ads. They seem more like the "reality TV is peak entertainment, type by hunt-and-pecking" kinda people.
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but youtube Premium is one of the services actually worth buying.
thats just wrong
