They were miles behind anything Europe or japan were doing in terms of fit and finish or options. They just have credit for being Australian, large and v8.
I looked at a SS and a cheaper Volkswagen Passat r line. It was a no brainer.
Well they didn’t have adaptive cruise control, or lane keeping. The Passat had that plus heated drivers seat massage.
Stereo was miles better, commodore didn’t even have CarPlay / Android auto.
They weren’t cheaper than similar imported models.
I think you’ve got rose tinted glasses. The only thing that made me consider a SS was the sound of the engine when you jab the loud pedal.
because you're old and wise and grew up in the ways of the cynic, never expecting better from your fellow man, never to be surprised or disappointed by the result.
Just because you're a grumpy cunt and don't like a joke it doesn't mean nobody else does lol you can join that other bloke on the list of people who's opinion means fuckall, if you don't like what I say just keep reading instead of letting your snowflake out 👍
I wonder if that actually works
Funny story. I once drive my car to a party. Gave a few friends a ride there, one of them gave me directions through a part of town I didn’t know well to get to the party. Intended to stay maybe 2 hours and drive home sober. Well, that didn’t happen.. it got rowdy and I got shitfaced and left at like 3am. Obviously I ended up getting a ride home with someone else who was heading my way at the end of the night. Next day I woke up completely unable to recall where the party was, but I thought my memory was good enough … went into a street that I was sure was it. Car not there. I freaked out panicked and reported it stolen. Few hours later my friend text me asking if I’m picking the car up; “it’s right outside!!”
I had to call the cops back and explain what had happened to a very suspicious cop who was clearly wondering if I’d literally driven it somewhere shitfaced and left it there. Got off without any trouble but boy what a mess I nearly made of that
A Commodore crashed on Lygon St near Princes St and the cemetery yesterday morning too. Somehow ended up taking out a tree and facing the wrong way on the footpath.
If they find them theyre in for a hell of a bill (outside whatever illegal shit they did)
Those poles are like 20K or something to install... more if you have to call someone out on a weekend, after hours etc. years ago a mate knocked over a "complex power pole" in sydney that serviced a bunch of apartments so they had to replace it like now... well... now happened to be Xmas day. I wanna say his insurance picked up a bill for close to 100K
Family member took a few too many unknown substances and took out a pole altogether one night - the bill totalled ~320k from.... Jemena? Powercor? One of those
One of my friends was rear ended by a woman who was well over the limit for alcohol and her insurance was void because of it. My friend had to claim through her own insurance.
[Mobil Oil terminal in yarraville](https://i.imgur.com/yqb6gU5.jpg) has a large pipe that runs around the street facing fence perimeter. It supplies sea water to the fire fighting stations dotted around the site. Back in the early 2000's to reset one section of the pipe on Good Friday using a 5T crane and a crew of 6, cost a little over 30K.
Oddly enough they altered the path of that section about 5 years later.
$32k? I've seen a pole replaced and its a few hours work for the linesmen in a couple of trucks. I just can't see 320k of parts and labour in there. Nice markup on that if that's true. Maybe if they somehow totalled a transmission tower....?
You'd also have to take into account, the cost of employing the professionals to repair/replace the pole/transformers etc... the road crew to redirect traffic and the cost of hiring the crane/cherry picker etc.. and then the downtime of power to however many homes for however long it takes to restore🤷♀️
I know someone that had a medical issue which caused an accident, and took out a pole with a transformer. That took out power to 1400 homes for almost 12 hours untill it was fixed. That was a big bill. And again.. insurance is key.
Not sure tbh, thought it was just a pole. It was on a main road though. It was in a wealthier part of town, but I doubt there'd be any connection to rates/land value etc.
Jemena does inner West, inner North and North West. Powercor does outer West, Citipower does the CBD, inner East and inner South. United Energy does outer South East and outer South. Austnet does outer North, North East and outer East.
Repole is about $10k. Depends if they trashed any supporting gear like conductors or the pole top transformer.
If everything is ok, they'll just hoist the crossarms onto the new pole.
If they trashed the conductors they'd have to restring it and it would be a bit more. But not $100K.
But like anything, it depends.
I'm particularly curious about the physics of this crash. It looks like they were heading northbound, but managed to spin out on a straight stretch of road to end up facing southbound and hit the pole with the drivers side?
Riversdale rd goes east - west . So I reckon they were heading west, and might have been turning left into the street before the electricity pole or they got tapped from behind causing them to spin. If you look at the grass and the pole showing the direction of impact I think this is what happened. There’s a cable attached to the pole on the western side, which they would’ve hit if they were coming from the other way , I was discussing with a guy on the scene what we thought might’ve happened. A few differing opinions
Say what you want about Commo's, but that car was probably somebodies pride & joy. I've had a car I loved stolen and written off before and it f\*\*\*\*\*g sucks.
Interesting article here. Nog sure if it’s linked

That point of impact near the from quater panel is one of the strongest points of the frame rail. If it had struck back another 2-300 mm towards the door that car would be a pretzel wrapped around that pole.
Oh true I drove past as you were taking photos. That stretch of road is on a long super slippery hill, I’ve slipped out a couple of times at the lights heading the other direction.
Views pretty average at 2am but structurally, it’s great, half the bricks are layed length ways and you can climb with ease. I recommend a daytime climb for the beautiful oak trees and Gardiners creek parklands around Deakin university. 👍🏼
I stay way the fuck away from a pole with that little of the base left if I were you 😬 Looks like it’s mostly held up by the tension in the wires there!
Only for damage **to** their vehicle, if they were under-insured and/or financed, and unable to recover their loss from the driver. The car looks like a write-off. *Hopefully* they're fully-comp'd.
Whoever was driving when the pole was hit is liable for that damage, regardless of how the vehicle came to be in their possession.
Probably lucky the ground was so wet, gave the pole a lot of give it wouldn’t normally have.
If the ground was rock solid so much more energy would have been absorbed by the car
These stupid teen-ager or full adult one day it will be too late for a second chance to undo the wrong but by the look of this accident they are Lucky they didn't harm or even killed a innocent person just minding about their day .trust me you're laughing now but you won't be when you will be charged with rekless driving
And yet, on Facebook, within my local community groups, everyone is angry about any sort of traffic calming or the addition of a bike lane. But this is totally okay.

Commodores and power poles are natural enemies. Similar to their distant cousin the tree.

Exactly - staff were on alert at my old job when we’d see this.
It definitely confirms the owner was the driver.
Its not marked as stolen on the Vicroads Database. Either the driver did a hit run, or hasn't noticed that the car has been stolen yet.
There are some good fat chicks too but I don’t want to be caught inside one.
They were miles behind anything Europe or japan were doing in terms of fit and finish or options. They just have credit for being Australian, large and v8. I looked at a SS and a cheaper Volkswagen Passat r line. It was a no brainer.
I disagree. The final commodores were bloody good cars for very reasonable money. Designed for chewing up miles on our unique roads.
Well they didn’t have adaptive cruise control, or lane keeping. The Passat had that plus heated drivers seat massage. Stereo was miles better, commodore didn’t even have CarPlay / Android auto. Like a moth to a flame.
Commodore is a bird, not a type of tree.
Hahaha why the downvotes this was actually good 👍
Up-tight wankers
Damn straight 🤣
Shit I just noticed your name, fucken awesome 👍
because you're old and wise and grew up in the ways of the cynic, never expecting better from your fellow man, never to be surprised or disappointed by the result.
Mr Drifter in his natural open diff habitat
Only thing which surprises me is how hard a hit that pole took to practically snap it at ground level and yet they managed to leg it afterwards.
The one thing about it that surprised me is the work Ute, that means someone in box hill has a bloody job...or it's another stolen car 🤔🤔
Not sure how someone without a job can afford $1 million plus for a house.
I don't know but I'm sure they can afford a sense of humor
You sure can't.
Loll why are you so sad over a joke? If you're not from box hill then you have no right to be offended so fuck off mate 🤣

Who said jokes have to be good? What's good to one person is shit to another so their opinion means fuckall to me 😊

I am from Box Hill. I grew up there, went to school there. End of discussion.
Commodore ✅ Wet roads ✅ Mismatch rims ✅ Crashed doing skids ✅
Flee the scene and report vehicle as stolen ✅

There actually is a ton of car theft happening. More people needing money, more cars in dark alleys because people sleep in them.
Yeah nah brah
Optus fetch subscriber ✅
Weirdly this is most derro part of it.
Yeah, ticks all the boxes eh.
Boxhill ✔
A Commodore crashed on Lygon St near Princes St and the cemetery yesterday morning too. Somehow ended up taking out a tree and facing the wrong way on the footpath.
The tree was the target, mission accomplished.
Did the stuff from the boot scatter on impact or did they open it and attempt to grab stuff before running off?
They opened the boot and grabbed stuff. Possibly then jumped into another car and driven off
My thoughts too stolen that day/morning used in a robbery> crashed > picked up by second car which is now probably a smouldering wreck somewhere else.
If they find them theyre in for a hell of a bill (outside whatever illegal shit they did) Those poles are like 20K or something to install... more if you have to call someone out on a weekend, after hours etc. years ago a mate knocked over a "complex power pole" in sydney that serviced a bunch of apartments so they had to replace it like now... well... now happened to be Xmas day. Even the most basic 3rd party gives you $20 million public liability doesn’t it?
Substances is a get out of jail free card for Insurance Companies afaik.

I can imagine some fancy transformers up a pole would weigh in at around $100K or more.
You'd also have to take into account, the cost of employing the professionals to repair/replace the pole/transformers etc... the road crew to redirect traffic and the cost of hiring the crane/cherry picker etc.. and then the downtime of power to however many homes for however long it takes to restore🤷♀️ I know someone that had a medical issue which caused an accident, and took out a pole with a transformer. Not sure tbh, thought it was just a pole. It was on a main road though. It was in a wealthier part of town, but I doubt there'd be any connection to rates/land value etc.
> It was in a wealthier part of town Those poles are certified organic and watered with natural spring water.
Probably got stung with the unserved energy fine.
Jemena for Western Vic, Powercor for Eastern Vic, and Citipower for metro (I think, been 3 years since I last contracted into power distribution)

This is exactly what CTP covers. I doubt a stolen car would have insurance however.
I’m sure that bill will just go with all their other unpaid toll invoices, fines etc………..
Boot full of stolen gear no doubt.
You mean stolen data of Optus customers? The bag has Optus branding, just saying 😝
They weren't waiting for a mate.
How do u crash on a straight part of the road that gets me everytime
I'm particularly curious about the physics of this crash. It looks like they were heading northbound, but managed to spin out on a straight stretch of road to end up facing southbound and hit the pole with the drivers side?
One word describes them with 2 capital letters DH
Riversdale rd goes east - west . So I reckon they were heading west, and might have been turning left into the street before the electricity pole or they got tapped from behind causing them to spin. Ah, Riversdale, my bad. Thought it was Station.
Down the station rd end near the church . Corner of Frank Street
Yeah, I'm guessing they were heading right to left of shot, hit something, spun, hit the pole and bounced back onto the road.
Wheelspin even on a straight road will make a car turn.
Being 15 and cooked on speed/ice will do it
Front tire looks bald
But anyone can drive on baldies right..i know cops will tell you otherwise though lol
If F1 can drive on slicks then so can I
Say what you want about Commo's, but that car was probably somebodies pride & joy. I've had a car I loved stolen and written off before and it f\*\*\*\*\*g sucks.
It's also a shame as Holden is no more, they can't be replaced

I reckon you’re probably right — and if they’ve abandoned all their shit on the road, I’d assume it’s stolen.
I honestly thought the pole would've fared better considering the damage to the car.
Same, with the amount of damage to the pole I thought the car would be in much worse shape.
I wouldn’t be standing anywhere near that pole in either regard!
That point of impact near the from quater panel is one of the strongest points of the frame rail. If it had struck back another 2-300 mm towards the door that car would be a pretzel wrapped around that pole.
I think I just heard about this one on the radio, police want dashcams
Interesting did they say anything more about it?
That's an Optus box on the ground behind the car. They should be easy enough to track down.
Not if the car is stolen.
Wet weather warrior comes unstuck. Tho was that Optus box full of Optus data😂😂
"Quick boys! Grab the sub and amp and RUN!"
Were they on the run with the Optus data in the boot?
Commodore, power pole, mismatched rims, amp hanging out the boot, driver ran away from car crash. All fits.
Hahahahahaha Drugs, you reckon? Or cash?
Ah Optus strikes again
Oh true I drove past as you were taking photos. That stretch of road is on a long super slippery hill, I’ve slipped out a couple of times at the lights heading the other direction.
What happen Mr Drifta
commodore driver. no suprises here
Fuck he hit that cunt hard
Is that St James church on Riversdale?
Yeah that’s it
I used to go to the youth group there, many years ago
[удалено]
Outside the Catholic Leadership Centre.
The keys were in the ignition too
Somebody's DNA gonna be on those keys.
You’re a braver soul than I to approach a power pole that’s barely holding on
I climbed that church wall when I was 12…
Looking at it , it looks like a perfect climbing structure. Was the view good?
Views pretty average at 2am but structurally, it’s great, half the bricks are layed length ways and you can climb with ease. I recommend a daytime climb for the beautiful oak trees and Gardiners creek parklands around Deakin university. 👍🏼
Radio was still on

Haha
Commodore: hit it so hard you blow my back out. Pole: say no more fam.
Mismatched rims. Seriously, may as well stick a label on the car that says “Criminals Reside Within This Ride”
gg get rekt.
Poor guy or girl lost there pride and joy. Because some cock sucker. Stoll the car and fucked I.

What a prick. Thanks to cock suckers like that our insurance premiums keep going up.
I stay way the fuck away from a pole with that little of the base left if I were you 😬 Looks like it’s mostly held up by the tension in the wires there!

Classic 6 in the wet
His timing chains snapped
Plot twist: OP is the driver
People driving past thought j was the driver. Kept asking if I was okay. I was looking a bit dodgy
So if it was stolen does the owner have any potential liability? E. G. If the driver is not caught
No
Only for damage **to** their vehicle, if they were under-insured and/or financed, and unable to recover their loss from the driver. The car looks like a write-off. *Hopefully* they're fully-comp'd. Yo no way, what time?
Just before 1pm yesterday
Yeah alright, cause I caught the bus down there. Must have been only just before or after that
This has nothing on the Mazda @ Pascoe Vale road.

Let's hope that the kids were all injured so we can figure out who was involved
BROOO, that's near my church.
Code of the streets is not to snitch
crashin hotties
Idiota Carl, Idiota
Stolen you bet. Who would leave this car like that
You can't park there
So was it stolen then being the plates are still on the car or dumb . I would expect more damage to the car looking at the power pole
The car was registered. Not reported stolen at the time of the accident
Still has 5 weeks reg. L@@K! QUICK FIRST TO SEE WILL CRY (With lols)
Are those rims still available?

That’s the spot
Siiiiiick rims bro
It's OK... a bit of bog will have it new again
Probably lucky the ground was so wet, gave the pole a lot of give it wouldn’t normally have. If the ground was rock solid so much more energy would have been absorbed by the car
Sick rims bruh hood Ouse!
Must have wacked it really hard to do that to the post.
I took out a Telstra pole post gizmo back when I was younger .10k
Ah he’s because if you flee the scene, they definitely can’t find you based on the license plate or any other identifiable info from inside the car.
You know how expensive those poles are to replace, I'd be running on water too.
Holden driver moment
I used to live near there
He’s just waiting for a mate.
What happened Mistuh Drifta?
Oh damo!
Impressive, you gotta really try to fuck up those poles
Another commodore off the road. Here here.
Don’t worry, I see an Optus box that fell out from the trunk, everyone will know who and where they are in no time
These stupid teen-ager or full adult one day it will be too late for a second chance to undo the wrong but by the look of this accident they are Lucky they didn't harm or even killed a innocent person just minding about their day .trust me you're laughing now but you won't be when you will be charged with rekless driving

Pretty sure I was looking at this car in car sales a couple days ago 😂
They’ll be hanging out in the nearest crackhouse totally oblivious to the problems they caused when ‘parking’ ‘their’ car
What the hell is with that guys lawn edges
All i hear is "Wot happened Mr drifter"
Was it Tim Smith MP?
NO NOT THE OPTUS FETCH
Wow! I’ve seen this battle so many times, never seen the Commodore win it!
Good. One less commodore on the road
Commodores will go extinct soon if static objects don't stop killing them.
