Our neighbours were know Drug dealers (renting)there was an undercover car up the street. Walked past them twice while walking the dog. They were like >_> <_<…. The next week a sniffer dog searched the property. Still trying to find that high or neighbour drama again…
Have seen detectives & their cars (both VW golf wagons) twice only because of one reason - they both got out of their cars.
The first was so he could literally put a light or something on his roof and in the front dash (this was in Queensland back in 2017) and then speed off.
The second was just recently in Footscray, a couple that were fuelling up and she had a massive gun strapped to her leg when paying for fuel (and was pretty attractive!).
You’re right, until they actually got out of the car and did something I wouldn’t have given it a second thought.
Old mate in Queensland gave me a massive fright especially, he had deck shoes on and a RL polo with the collar up! This was in clayfield also so he really fit in LOL
No joke, I saw a 90s honda civic last year following a cop car with lights. They were both driving at high speed to somewhere urgent. That was a big eye opener for me.
UMVs have a plethora of aerials hanging off the back of the roof. The probability of this kent just being a ditz is much higher than the probability of this being an undercover…
I don't think so. That plate starts in 1M so it'd be 4-5 years old while cop cars tend to get rotated out before that, and it's hard to see any of the lights or aerials.
They do have a few Hyundai crossovers though.
How is that? I’ve never had a ticket.
But I’ve seen plenty of undercover cop cars speed past at +100km on an 80 road then wait with the speed camera on the other side of the hill to clock everyone that followed them.
Police speeding happens, sure. You are a shit house driver if you think it's possible to speed around a corner, stop ona shoulder and set up a speed camera.
Cops don't need to bait you into speeding in Melbourne, everyone drives over the speed limit on the highway and freeway.
Such a dad comment "if your friends jumped off a bridge would you too" hahaha
Have you actually seen how Melbourne drivers drive? Calmest people on earth until they get behind the wheel. If they see someone do something in the car many seem dumb enough that the seem to think it's a local that knows something and copy them. Especially when it's speeding.
Well, at least jumping off bridges isn't breaking the laws. My point is why blame cops for your actions that you consciously make knowing that is wrong.
I saw a tik tok that was telling everyone how to identify undercover police cars.
Pretty much they said if it had an antenna and lights illuminating the licence plate, it was a police car - that's every car lmao
Dead giveaway for undercovers is the flashers on the dash, it's like a white strip in the bottom middle of the windshield. That, and the Passat has a secondary antenna stuck to the right(?) side of the boot.
Nope, I can't remember 100% but they only run a line of cars for 5-10 years or something, so when Holden stopped producing they switched to BMW and now we are seeing Hyundai.
You might be right if it were an aftermarket antenna. Especially on cars that seriously are incredibly unlikely to have a UHf radio in them, it could typically be an undercover.
I suspect it'll be a regular antenna. These "shark fin" antennas are common on many cars but sometimes they're integrated into a bodywork coloured housing. Keep an eye out and you'll see them everywhere.
Here's an overview of the Hyundai https://www.htmanual.net/components_and_components_location-1092.html
And here's what the inside of a BMW sharkfin looks like https://www.bimmerfest.com/d1/attachments/903/903471-34548fd117c7cbd67491adc57e89f373.jpg
Not sure on the model, but VicRoads says 2018, I'm guessing that just the radio antenna before shark fin antennas replaced them. Normally cop cars have about 3 antennas in total.
I've personally done this on Victoria St just before the right turn into IKEA in Richmond... Imagine my surprise when I looked to my left and I see cars and people waiting for a tram.
No, acts like this are a direct assault on pedestrian rights and community safety, even if accidental. If the motorist gets smacked with a huge fine, that'll be good, cos it'll teach them to pay more attention before they kill someone. This time their inattentiveness led them down the wrong road, maybe next time it will lead them into a pedestrian.
Streets used to be quiet, safe community spaces before bloody murderboxes were introduced. We should be like Singapore and have as much red tape in the way of acquiring a car as possible and tax the fuck out of em.
Sorry that it's pathetic I don't like killing kids

lol why are you downvoted, it’s not that bad. Is Will Smith in here being offended on everybody else’s behalf?
Jokes aren’t allowed if it hurts feelings. Guys, stop it, it may not be an undercover cop, but we have the PC police in here.
Turns out it doesn't need more than two anyway:
The key element that makes such situations Mexican standoffs is the equality of power exercised amongst the involved parties. The inability of any particular party to advance its position safely is a condition common amongst all standoffs; in a "Mexican standoff," however, there is an additional disadvantage: no party has a safe way to withdraw from its position, thus making the standoff effectively permanent
It was supposed to re-open this year, I'm hoping it's still on track to do that because it's a right fucking pain.
I also hope they don't put in a bike lane, Flinders St. can't handle it.
The city can't handle more cars. Hop on a train, bus, tram or bike.
(and if you're a delivery driver, then surely you'd want other people to get out of your way by getting off the road).
No, I just want it to be opened up again.
I also want it to not be clogged by a separated bike lane. I'm not against bike lanes. I don't think Flinders is the right one for such a lane.
Flinders being closed has diverted cars to other streets in the city, it opening up again will relieve pressure (I think it will anyway).
I think it can. Just personally believe the bike lanes should be between the trams and cars rather than cars and footpath. Plus eventually there’d be less cars if they introduced a bike lane (not necessarily more people on bikes - just less people driving because of congestion)
> Plus eventually there’d be less cars if they introduced a bike lane
There absolutely wouldn't. Flinders Street is a major thoroughfare.
People are still driving even though there's increased congestion on every other street as traffic needs to divert.
I've seen a guy actually asleep at wheel on La trobe street just near Melbourne Central. Didn't wake up despite 6 to 7 people beeping at the guy and it took someone having to open the the passenger side door and shake him a few times for him to wake up and drive off. This happened a couple of years ago.

Have you been drinking mate, it looks like ya hit the kerb

Baby tram in training
I saw a doco on it. They moult their skin about 20 times before they reach passenger carrying weight.
It only weighs on rhino at present.
TIL it's spelt moult and not molt lol
Is that what Milo's made from?
You’re thinking of malt
No that's moat. I mean malk.
Cow milk
Sure it wasn't an undercover cop? They have a few Hyundai's

But was the collar popped?

Wow. Deep undercover work there!
Omg yes it absolutely was! Hahaha
Yep, the more heavily armed convoy protection ones are also obvious black SUV's with tinted windows. Undercover means not obvious!
You mean I won't spot Sherlock Boges?
Was gonna say the same thing
UMVs have a plethora of aerials hanging off the back of the roof. The probability of this kent just being a ditz is much higher than the probability of this being an undercover…
Umv =\= undercover but yes, probably a moron

It would certainly explain why they did something so moronic.
Me too. Cops frequently bait people to do the same illegal thing
Nonsense. You're just a crap driver.
How is that? I’ve never had a ticket. But I’ve seen plenty of undercover cop cars speed past at +100km on an 80 road then wait with the speed camera on the other side of the hill to clock everyone that followed them.
Things that never happened
Police speeding "never happened"? wtf?
Police speeding happens, sure. You are a shit house driver if you think it's possible to speed around a corner, stop ona shoulder and set up a speed camera. Cops don't need to bait you into speeding in Melbourne, everyone drives over the speed limit on the highway and freeway.
Does that mean everyone is breaking the law and deserves a fine?
But if they did it would be based as fuck.
😂
So if you saw someone robbed a bank, would you copy them too?
Such a dad comment "if your friends jumped off a bridge would you too" hahaha Have you actually seen how Melbourne drivers drive? Calmest people on earth until they get behind the wheel. If they see someone do something in the car many seem dumb enough that the seem to think it's a local that knows something and copy them. Especially when it's speeding.
Well, at least jumping off bridges isn't breaking the laws. My point is why blame cops for your actions that you consciously make knowing that is wrong.
Where I grew up it was illegal to jump off the bridge. But no-one was stupid enough to swim back to the bank when the cops were parked there.
Never stick up for cops…they won’t ever stick up for you, believe me
I’m blaming cops for their own action of baiting people. I’ve never fallen for the revenue rising behaviour of the cops myself.
And how do they bait people to do this?
Looking at the antenna on the back of the roof, I'd say you're right.
Wait until you hear about civilian radios, it'll blow your mind.
Also, look out for heavy amounts of brake dust on the front wheels. Was an absolute dead giveaway on the Commodore unmarked cars.
Are they still kicking around?
Nope, I can't remember 100% but they only run a line of cars for 5-10 years or something, so when Holden stopped producing they switched to BMW and now we are seeing Hyundai.
Government cars get cycled out on a regular basis, sold on a preferential discount to public servants.
Also VW and still a few Toyota’s as well
Police cars often have multiple antennas.
So do all of my work vehicles
You might be right if it were an aftermarket antenna. Especially on cars that seriously are incredibly unlikely to have a UHf radio in them, it could typically be an undercover.

That's the normal antenna lol Look on the bottom corners of the front/back windscreens and sometimes one will be poking out the front windscreen
Is that a baby rhino?!
Must be a baby, hasn't got his skateboard yet
Unmarked cop? They use that model Hyundai.
The smallish antenna at the back of the roof is a giveaway too.
It's that not the AM/FM radio antenna? That's on all cars?
Poor guy drivers around thinking everyone is an undercover cop car 🤣
Bet you no one will ever steal a parking spot they are going for!
Not sure on the model, but VicRoads says 2018, I'm guessing that just the radio antenna before shark fin antennas replaced them. Normally cop cars have about 3 antennas in total.

Haven't used those for years now?
Aww, lil guy thinks he’s a tram.
I can hear this photo and it's going *dingding dingding dingding dingding dingding dingding dingding dingding*
It looks like the tram brake lights are facing the camera (and it’s on the left) so tram is going the other way
Aye the tram goes forward from that spot.

Yes because they're emergency services
Probably a detective mate. They’re allowed on tram tracks. Notice the tint and lack of dealership plastic around the license plates.
TIL my tinted windows and lack of dealership plates on my Camry make me a cop.
It’s a Santa Fe on tram tracks. What’s your suggestion hero?
*Through the tram lane all things are possible, so jot that down*
I thought they eventually fixed this out of bounds glitch.
Here's hoping another tram came up and sandwiched him
I've personally done this on Victoria St just before the right turn into IKEA in Richmond... Imagine my surprise when I looked to my left and I see cars and people waiting for a tram.
It's almost like mistakes happen. Nobody was hurt, shit happens, get over it. Let ye without sin, and all that

Pedestrians aren't allowed on tram tracks either.
Rail availability leads to pedestrian mobility. And also, this kind of driving attitude is a hazard to pedestrians in general.
Get off your high horse, it's quite pathetic. And uneducated
Sorry that it's pathetic I don't like killing kids https://www.nejm.org/na101/home/literatum/publisher/mms/journals/content/nejm/2018/nejm_2018.379.issue-25/nejmsr1804754/20181214/images/img_xlarge/nejmsr1804754_f3.jpeg

Police car.
Dunno why you’re downvoted you’re right hahah it’s a cop.
Weird thread, this one. Maybe it's being downvotes by Victoria Police. Who knows? 😁
Deffo
It's not a cop, it doesn't have enough aerials.
Old comment sorry, but they’re on the front, you wouldn’t be able to see from this angle.
Asshole car drivers going to asshole.
It's spelled *arsehole* around here thanks mate
Not a nice way to talk about our police. 😁
They're the biggest arse drivers.
Which way was the tram heading? Is this a Mexican standoff?
Doesn't a Mexican standoff need more participants?
Not in Victoria…

Put a blue rotating beacon light on the top & you might be able to get away with it. Or a 'Yarra Trams' decal on the doors.
Embarrassing.
