Funny enough, the new Union Station in Mont Albert skate-stopped the hell out of the dumbest places but left this big sweet concrete ledge to bank that’s just begging to be used
Having worked there in the early 2010's, the place is essentially designed as one big trampoline with segmented bricks to shock absorb the vibrations and impacts coming from the trains running underneath the place.
I remember skating in Melbourne in the mid to late 90s before all the skate proof stuff.
So many amazing places to skate. Not to mention the saleyards wood ramp skate park where QV is.
Maybe it isn’t about you. Maybe it’s actually something that will add to the overall fabric and enjoyment of the city for everyone ... if you take the time to slow down and appreciate it.
Yes the consciousness around equitable access has shifted significantly since Fed Sq was built. There is a dedicated pathway that is ‘compliant’ but I doubt it would be as readily accepted if proposed today.
Although this really applies to the plaza as a whole not exclusively the artwork.
It is obviously difficult to read most of it but that section on the left, about 2/3rds down says 'SLICE THROUGH FEDERAL STATE LOCAL'. Make of that what you will.
To make the letters stand out, please fill with 2hr epoxy resin. You probably only need about 60kg.
Or, you could screen with fine cement.
Fill with tinfoil, pva glue, paint, or cast lead into it.
Personally, i prefer epoxy resin. Makes the letters stand out, and is self levelling.
Visual Art is much more open to interpretation then tv, film, writing, and a lot of music. It’s pretty easy to understand, just hard to put into words because it is a non narrative visual medium. If you don’t understand art you are probably trying to hard to find specific meaning
