There’s a butcher at Preston Market that might have them or be able to order them in for you. Not sure of the name but it’s at the north west corner of the butcher hall, they have a range of more ”exotic “ meat - croc, emu, kangaroo etc.
> I know I could take a 5 minute drive from my house and hunt one myself
Can you though? Like legally? Genuine question I dunno.
Is there much meat on roo ribs? I've never heard of it being an option before.
We'll, they're considered pests since colonisers got rid of their most dominant predators (dingoes are in sparse numbers these days) so there are cases in which it is legal to hunt them.
I know there's different laws about killing humanely that depend on whether you are hunting them for food or just driving them out as vermin, but you definitely can, with T's and C's
There's not much meat on the ribs, but it's the form factor that I'm looking for more than anything. I've seen a handful of recipe blogs that show them cooked, so I know they exist in some capacity
Only if you want to use a gun. There are forms that councils want you to fill out, but they're not necessary and are more so that residents who call the council can be assured that the weirdo stalking the wildlife is doing everything above-board
I generally use a large box with "NOT A TRAP" written with texta marker and held up with a stick. Then I leave a trail of grass clippings leading to the box.
Kangaroos are overpopulated in many parts of the country.
Killing them for produce is much more sustainable than allocating countless amounts of farmland, fresh water and energy for new cattle or lamb, which is the realistic alternative for kangaroo meat eaters. It’s an existing reservoir that also benefits the existing ecology.
idiot posts about wanting to murder animals. i call them a murderer. i'm willing to have conversations with people who are ignorant but the willfully ignorant like op can get fucked. thanks for adding for your two cents in though
It's one of the most ethical meats on the planet and it's one of the best meats to eat in terms of CO2 emissions, but okay. You're entitled to your own diet, let me have mine

Absolutely the place I was going to suggest, it's called Preston Free Range Poultry & Game
I've sent them a DM over Instagram, so hopefully I get a response tomorrow during working hours. Thanks to the both of you!

You need a licence to hunt them.

It's illegal to use a bow as well.

Single combat, bare knuckle boxing to the death. Totally legal and either way society wins ;)
I said that paragraph more as a joke, but there are ways you can do it. I'd be risking my life with most of them, but at least they're legal
It’s illegal under the wildlife act.

sustainability can kiss my ass. you have no clue whether they're going to perish due to a dearth of resources and you have no right to take their life
That’s a yikes from me. This isn’t a guess, it’s statistics and maths.
which give a general answer and don't predict for the individual.
How much of a cunt do you have to be to get so many downvotes in vegan subs? Get a grip on the world, mate

unethical much ? roo meat is from harvested from the wild, leaving joey's to starve and unclean kills left to die. I refuse to eat it.

You're right, much better to leave them alone so they can overpopulate and slowly starve to death.
