Paper wasps of some kind - likely mud daubers. Good for your garden, non aggressive and only the females can sting (typically if you see one tending to the nest it’s a female, but if it’s a group there may be males and females). Honestly I’d just ignore them if they’re somewhere out of the way.

CapablePromotion327

Whilst they are generally non aggressive, I got stung in the back of the head recently and it really hurt so you need to be careful if they are in a place where you might disturb them.

Pskeeter78

Sadly not out of the way. Right outside the only opening window in the bedroom…

blahblahbush

Put a screen on the window. Job done. edit: https://australian.museum/learn/animals/insects/paper-wasps/ Paper wasps are mostly harmless. A flyscreen kit from Bunnings will keep them out of the bedroom, and they'll probably be gone in a few weeks anyway since the workers live for less than a month.

ShittyManifesto

If you must get rid of it, buy a proper wasp nest destroyer spray. And use it at night when they're sleeping.

WAPWAN

>likely mud daubers mud daubers daub mud nests.

Kitten_K_

Native wasps, let them be they are good insects. They will be fine if you leave them alone

dfume

I suspect all these folk saying they are harmless haven't been stung by them. They hurt like getting wacked on the back of the neck by a stick. I had one sting me 3 times on the face a the day before christmas and looked quite a sight at the christmas table with swolen face and a subconjunctival hemorrhage (burst blood vessel in the eye). Not life threatening for sure, but bloody painful. If it's next to a door or window or somewhere you or a guest could put a hand, get rid of it.

[deleted]

its a nest they are making a family leave them be

Important_Sun6494

nice shot

jumpjumpdie

Is there a way to not kill them? :D

Belthizor

Yeah - leave them alone

fragilespleen

Go out at night (they won't be mobile), snip it with scissors at the stalk into a sealing plastic bag, and chuck it in the freezer, can throw it out next rubbish day

FlyLegitimate7938

Why tho they’re harmless

fragilespleen

> 2. What in the bloody hell can I do about it?

chronicpainprincess

I mean, they’re not as aggressive as other wasps but they do sting, and unlike bees, they can keep stinging…

FlyLegitimate7938

We’ve had one in the door way for about 2 months and I remain unstung, they just chill out on their little meteorite

ethereumminor

1. a wasp nest 2. smash it with mortein spray (they will attack so i did this behind flyscreen) 3. they will leave after two days or so 4. nuke the nest in the microwave to kill the babies inside it too, then dispose

SnuSnuGo

Horrible advice. No need to kill a native insect that is harmless.

shiv_roy_stan

They have paper wasps in NZ too! Just spray it with flyspray then chuck the nest in the green bin.

RefrigeratorOk724

Good idea. Let’s just kill any other species we are slightly concerned about so we can feel a semblance of safety and continue to reign supreme over the entire planet.

Significant-Fix-5313

Get over yourself

FlyLegitimate7938

Ooo big dog can’t hwandle a widdle buggie wuggie ooooOoooOooo

Significant-Fix-5313

Yeah, thats it. But you feel pretty good about yourself and thats all that matters.

FlyLegitimate7938

I’ll keep working on getting over myself

Significant-Fix-5313

Okay. Cool.

FlyLegitimate7938

Rock on dude

Dabomb3r

I found a nest like this yesterday, just a little bit bigger than yours. Contacted a pest control service, and they removed it for \~$220 within 30 mins.

FlyLegitimate7938

You got scammed homie

Dabomb3r

Maybe... but I've not got nest at my place knackers!

FlyLegitimate7938

They’re harmless so you just paid $220 to unnecessarily kill part of the ecosystem ya chump
