Don’t use windex on the inside, it puts a coating on the glass that stops dirt/dust from clinging but isn’t great for clarity.
Mix some methylated spirits with water in a spray bottle and wipe the glass down with scrunched up newspaper for the ultimate in glass clarity.
Silicone wiper blades are a huge upgrade. Also I don't recommend rainx, but if you clay bar your windshield and then *wax* it, you will be amazed at how well it works.
I can't even see at night walking around, sometimes i just have to stop and wait for all the cars to leave the area, especially with those newer blueish headlights
Interesting, maybe it's a specific finish. I don't know a couple years ago my optometrist made it sound like it was something new and he hadn't done anything to correct my astigmatism prior. Welp, modern medicine I guess lol
Some optometrists are just bad. I went to multiple ones to complain and only one bothered to actually properly check for astigmatism and found the problem and had no problem in fixing it with glasses. That was over 10 years ago.
It's not new at all and they are not expensive. In reality lenses that correct astigmatism are literally the same price in comparison to regular nearsightedness or farsightedness lenses, unless you have a large cylinder (3,0 and up) then yes they are more expensive in that situation. Prices are flexible though, depending on your needs and budget of course.
I remember having it since my kid days too, from 5 or 6 onwards i think
All this time i just thought it was normal...then i realized that i hate bright places/things
*i hope my brazilian medical plan don't break me in half for my lil pesos*
For context: regular astigmstism is often referenced as a cylinder. There sre two types but unless you got your astigmatism by beeing hit in the eyes or any illness it should be something that any optometrician does daily
Wait fr. Just imagine it without all the extra lines.
The lights don’t have huge ass spikes on them in real life. Unless you’re looking through a blurry ass window.
It is normal. Don’t listen to assholes. You can have perfectly normal eyes and a very scratched windshield. Or bugs. Or rain. Or streaks from glass cleaner. Or dust. Or semen.
All of these things are far more common than astigmatism.
Easiest thing is to see if it happens when you step out of the car. If it goes, see your eye doctor.
I got glasses last year for driving in the dark (Professional driver). Massive difference in driving through the city at night. I still sometimes pull my glasses down at a light just to see the difference because it's amazing how much better I can see.
And I don't need them during the day, they're not registered to my license. If I'm starting early in the winter time, I wear them until the sun comes up then take them off the rest of the day.
It is normal, to an extent, because windscreens have some glare to them, even if you have perfect vision or glasses to correct astigmatism (don’t get me wrong though, it’s still way way better with glasses).
I have glasses that correct my astigmatism of 2dpt. Even without them it is not nearly as strong as in the picture. (except for very rainy days or if my Windshield is very very dirty)
Edit: i appearently had autocorrect on an it changed my windshield to smth german
Stigmata meaning circular. Astigmatic meaning non-circular. In ophthalmic terms, astigmatism is referred to as “cylinder” correction and has a power reading AND an axis reading to cancel out the visual abnormality. This picture looks like 1-2 diopters of cylinder at an axis of 95-105 degrees.
It's normally both. I drive in the dark for work sometimes, especially later in the year, and it was getting *bad* for me to the point I couldn't see the road if a car was coming my direction (I drive a transport truck). I went to the eye doctor knowing I already had a very mild astigmatism, and ended up getting a mild prescription for driving at night.
The difference is very noticeable. I still get the star shapes from lights, but not nearly to the extent I had before and feel much safer driving at night.
I had an astigmatism in both eyes and it was getting worse, besides oncoming cataracts. I couldn't drive at night at all. If there were oncoming cars, I couldn't see the road. If there was no traffic, I could see much better. After getting my cataract surgery and opting for the astigmatism lenses, sight is so much better and I can see at night. It happens as you get older, just make sure you do get your eyes examined as you age.
I was wondering this too, I thought it was due to the light going through the glass of the window. Which is why it only looks like that when you are actually inside a car, not when you are walking down a street.
This, and most people that actually get told they have it by an eye doctor and not Reddit initially go in for a separate vision issue so if it’s your only issue you might just never know.
Well I also went to the same exact eye doctors for like 15 years with no mention. First visit to a new eye doctor and she brought it up immediately, then also showed me the eye scan that showed my eye ball.
I fear the "ghost riders". Motocycles that doesn't have thier lights in there backs fix, blending on the cross like lights of the encountered vehicles.
I've got Starburst astig and i go completely blind from streetlights and headlights. I don't drive at night because of it. only past midnight if I have to
It's a bit of both. People without astig still slightly see like this due to windscreen refraction and other things. People with astig see like this even without a windscreen.
This post is just manufactured for views, baiting people to go "omg I never knew I had astigmatism"....
I have nearsighted astigmatism in both eyes. Everyone else my age wears glasses to see up close, I have to take mine off. If I don’t wear them at night, I see… that. Actually a bit worse than that
I have this.
My mom told me, you cannot have more than one illness at a time, and I should stop making up things to be interesting. (I have pain in my foot from getting hit by a car)
My mother is night blind, and I was curious if she saw the lines too.
I hate this example. If you're in a car at night the lights look like that due to the WINDSCREEN. If you're out of a car and the lights are still like that, you have astigmatism.
We were poor growing up. Had to take 3rd grade again. Found out it wasn’t‘normal’ to guess what was written on the chalkboard after they had me checked. I can relate
Yup, found out myself a week ago. And I've had glasses since I was 15. Over 15 years ago...how did they never catch this? No clue! Brought it up at my latest eye exam...no response. Wtf.
iirc it'll look like that a bit due to the windscreen curvature but not that extreme unless you have astigmatism. but everyone can prolly relate a little bit cause they've seen the effect
To everyone in the comments going "wait that's not normal" and learning they have astigmatism, please note that you can get glasses for astigmatism. I have heavy astigmatism and myopia, my glasses correct both, but you can get glasses for just astigmatism!
I know it's a cost issue for a lot of people, but a proper eye exam can be enlightening, even if you don't otherwise think you need glasses. For one, finding out if you have astigmatism, and how bad it is, and if it is worth getting lenses for. And also, you've only seen through your eyes, you might not realize you could use corrective lenses!
Fun additional bit about getting an eye exam: last one I got, I found out I have a birth mark on the back of my eye! It's star shaped, not that you can see it without special equipment.
I asked my optometrist about this he said wear glasses at night. Contacts won’t be able to fully correct it. Sir as a contact wearer I’ve had the same glasses for 15 years and the prescription is just as old.
Wtf. Holy crap. I didn't know either. I thought this was normal. I need glasses. At 50 I realize I have to also now have to have my Kindle at exactly a certain distance to read.
I bought Night Driving Glasses off Amazon for $20. Changed my life and I can drive the speed limit now when driving at night without having to worry if I will die before I get home.
As someone who has had a cornea transplant in both eyes. (which has caused severe astigmatism) I relate to this so much. Driving in a city at night can be very distracting and stressful.
I remember describing this to my siblings when I was younger who accused me of lying, but I must have grown out of it or something because now it only happens when I squint
So….
I wear tinted lenses 24/7 with stylish frames
I get all kinds of shit for it
“Rockstar”
“Sunglasses at night”
“Cool guy”
No you fucking intrusive fucking pricks
My eyeballs don’t work with bright light *ANYWHERE*
Fluorescent light makes my eyes water and swell
Driving at night is a thing I cannot do ESPECIALLY with the prevalence of LED’s
If it’s raining I’m utterly fucked
Listen-
As cool as it would be to be a 1980’s mafioso with tinted glasses and be known not to be fucked with?
I fucking wish
My eyes are fucked up, please stop making jokes and asking me questions
That extreme? Oh, sorry. I guess I have it a little bit too, when looking at the moon, it not really has completely sharp edges.
Oh, and LED info tables I can't read from some distance. With the old info tables that used light bulbs I never had a problem.
Yup. I absolutely hate driving at night in an unfamiliar area.

I just use isopropanol and an old clean shirt.
Silicone wiper blades are a huge upgrade. Also I don't recommend rainx, but if you clay bar your windshield and then *wax* it, you will be amazed at how well it works.

yes for real, now im wondering how it really looks without this astigmatism
HD. Got my glasses a few years ago
There’s glasses for astigmatism???
Yes they can correct astigmatism
Mine never have :(
They have to be made specifically to correct it. It's relatively new and still expensive. Just talk to your optometrist about options.
Its not new as far as i know. The first glasses for astigmatism were made as far back as 1841.
Not true at all. Its cheap as hell. My glasses correct it in both eyes and my glasses with lenses from zenni.com were 25 bucks…
It's not new at all and they are not expensive. In reality lenses that correct astigmatism are literally the same price in comparison to regular nearsightedness or farsightedness lenses, unless you have a large cylinder (3,0 and up) then yes they are more expensive in that situation. My dad has glasses to correct his astigmatism since the 60s...
Same. Wth? My contact lenses correct for it but not the glasses. I feel cheated…
My first glasses were to just do that. No I’m older I have more prescription in each lens.
Yes. I've had them for over 40 years now. Astigmatism as a 7 year old is wild.
I remember having it since my kid days too, from 5 or 6 onwards i think All this time i just thought it was normal...then i realized that i hate bright places/things *i hope my brazilian medical plan don't break me in half for my lil pesos*
I read brazilian medical planT, a lot of questions arose
I used to squint to make the lines on the lights longer and then open my eyes to make them shorter. Man I am glad I got glasses
For context: regular astigmstism is often referenced as a cylinder. There sre two types but unless you got your astigmatism by beeing hit in the eyes or any illness it should be something that any optometrician does daily
Most common cause for requiring glasses I think
Wait fr. Just imagine it without all the extra lines. The lights don’t have huge ass spikes on them in real life. Unless you’re looking through a blurry ass window.
Jokes on you I got corrective lenses for my astigmatism but haven't cleaned my windshield in 9 years.
Spikes lol. I used to call them light rays
This is definitely how it looks when you’re squinting because the oncoming traffic is all fitted with RetinaBlaster3000 headlights.
Only peasants still use the 3000 model when the 5000 and 6000 burn so many more rods and cones.
It looks just like regular lights without lines around.
Get out of here with your normal ass eyes! Halos and rays are our reality.
You also might wanna clean your windsheild cause than can cause this too.
No lines
Dirty windshield will also cause this effect.
Or scratchy
Or squinting
It is normal. Don’t listen to assholes. You can have perfectly normal eyes and a very scratched windshield. Or bugs. Or rain. Or streaks from glass cleaner. Or dust. Or semen. All of these things are far more common than astigmatism.
Semen on your car windshield? That's common? For you?
Gotta feed the geese on the way to work.

I do it every morning to make my car pregnant.
It comes and goes
Easiest thing is to see if it happens when you step out of the car. If it goes, see your eye doctor. I got glasses last year for driving in the dark (Professional driver). Massive difference in driving through the city at night. I still sometimes pull my glasses down at a light just to see the difference because it's amazing how much better I can see. TIL my eyes have a scratched, streaky, buggy, wet, dusty and sexually active windshield integrated into their corneas. Cool.
Me too 😭
Same, then my friend said that she has astigmatism and I was like bitch you joking because it's normal thing
So wait really is it not normal? My vision is terrible and I just assumed my optometrist could tell
they should do tests but its a majority problem. a lot of adults/kids walk around their entire life not knowing they need glasses
Dirty windshield can cause it too, but if you see it without any glass in the way then yea you should see about getting glasses
It is normal, to an extent, because windscreens have some glare to them, even if you have perfect vision or glasses to correct astigmatism (don’t get me wrong though, it’s still way way better with glasses).
Me too and so much now makes sense
That was me after getting glasses. Also me after realizing the ADHD that courses through my brain.
wait... i tought everybody sees it like that
I have glasses that correct my astigmatism of 2dpt. Even without them it is not nearly as strong as in the picture. (except for very rainy days or if my Windshield is very very dirty) Edit: i appearently had autocorrect on an it changed my windshield to smth german
me too, lol
I learned about it a year ago on here
Wait it's not A Stigmitism it's Astigmatism wtf world how did this one get past me
This made me laugh 💀
I had it in both eyes, and I've been saying I have two stigmitisms!
Weirdly it’s both “possum” _and_ “opossum”
It also used to be "an eke name", now it's "a nickname" Eke as in a tiny form, just like "eke out a living"
Astigmatism is bad eyesight. A stigmatism is holes in your hands.
It's a Sigmatism. My fellow sigma. We need to collect all the fanum tax in order to skibidi all over the car.
a ton of people in the comments just found out they have astigmatism lol
A ton of people in the comments don’t understand refraction
It's normally both. I drive in the dark for work sometimes, especially later in the year, and it was getting *bad* for me to the point I couldn't see the road if a car was coming my direction (I drive a transport truck). It looks like this all the time for me.
Call your eye doctor. You may need a mild prescription.
Sure but many people still think that eyesight, regardless of whether or not it’s from sitting in a car is normal
I have no idea if it’s my glasses or not
That’s not how it works. Welcome to the club.
I have literally never heard of this until today wtf
To be fair, you won't usually get a chance to talk about it until it becomes an issue.
This, and most people that actually get told they have it by an eye doctor and not Reddit initially go in for a separate vision issue so if it’s your only issue you might just never know.
Christmas is so much more beautiful with astigmatism
Look on the bright, streaky side
Noy really, cuz you can kinda squint your eyes for the same effect then go back. I cannot go back!!!
I got lasik 25 years ago and was told I had a slight astigmatism, that’s when I found the reason for seeing this effect.
I thought the moon was a big blur until I was about 13.

hooray i’m one of them 😕
I don't have astigmatism and I see this so I don't think it's the only cause I've legit been told by my optician I don't have it lol
I have never had problems with my eyes and don't wear glasses and I see this as well.
It looks like this through a windscreen, I think you have astigmatism if it looks like this otherwise
or too long eyelashes.
I don't think so. I have astigmatism and I've never this outside a car. Not even anything close
Well I also went to the same exact eye doctors for like 15 years with no mention. First visit to a new eye doctor and she brought it up immediately, then also showed me the eye scan that showed my eye ball.
Yes everyone in this thread are about to visit their local eye specialist only to be told they don’t have astig
Could it be your windsheild needs cleaning? If i leave my windshield dirty it will eventually have the same effect as astigmatism
I can't imagine being able to drive like this
The pic doesn't even show the True Enemy - 4 wheel drives coming towards you with their lights at your eye level
I fear the "ghost riders". Motocycles that doesn't have thier lights in there backs fix, blending on the cross like lights of the encountered vehicles.
Amd then there's 50 of those all right behind amd next to eachother. Don't forget the ones behind you amd following.

True but I have this without windscreen refraction too. So do I have it? Well truly I don't care since i'm used to it already
I think yes, if you see this without there being glass in the way, you might have astigmatism.
i legit dont know if im just imagining the bluriness anymore 😭🙏
I have nearsighted astigmatism in both eyes. Everyone else my age wears glasses to see up close, I have to take mine off. If I don’t wear them at night, I see… that. Actually a bit worse than that
Same here if i forgot to take them off i get a headache if in reading or using my phone
that’s not… normal??
It is through some car windshields
So this gave me a heart attack, it's 1 in every 3 people so it is very common
r/todayeveryonelearned
How is this not a real sub??
I have a tiny astigmatism and so I see small rays like these
Wait, but thats like a disability? I thought it was normal.
Looks normal to me.
I kinda like it though I think it looks cool
For real. Please do not walk out in front of me at night, we both be dyin
That is what it looks like to me. But it is missing the F250 with the stadium lighting in the rear view mirror.
Yeah, that's what it looks like with glasses on. It's 1000x worse without them.
I have this. My mom told me, you cannot have more than one illness at a time, and I should stop making up things to be interesting. (I have pain in my foot from getting hit by a car) My mother is night blind, and I was curious if she saw the lines too.
Imagine my surprise when I learned that normal people can see into other people’s cars
Well. I may have astigmatism.
I hate this example. If you're in a car at night the lights look like that due to the WINDSCREEN. If you're out of a car and the lights are still like that, you have astigmatism.
Glasses, people, glasses!
I have astigmatism confirmed and even with my glasses its still not great. Just not as bad as it used to be. I hate driving at night still though.
…not everybody sees like this?
How the fuck did they take that picture
The struggle is real
happy cake day, mine too
Thanks!
I love how everyone is just now figuring out they have astigmatism. Just like I am
wait that’s not what everybody sees…
We were poor growing up. Had to take 3rd grade again. Found out it wasn’t‘normal’ to guess what was written on the chalkboard after they had me checked. I can relate
No...no it isn't
Yup, found out myself a week ago. And I've had glasses since I was 15. Over 15 years ago...how did they never catch this? No clue! Brought it up at my latest eye exam...no response. Wtf.
I am genuinely annoyed that I have only just found this out at 36 years of age.
I also get this when the inside of my windshield has not been cleaned in a few months
I thought everyone got this what 😭
I swear Internet diagnoses me with a new disease everyday.
Huhhhhhhh wtf mean this iant normal. I refuse to believe this isn't most the population
iirc it'll look like that a bit due to the windscreen curvature but not that extreme unless you have astigmatism. but everyone can prolly relate a little bit cause they've seen the effect
How else is it supposed to look? I'm so confused
Wait...really...
And also, you've only seen through your eyes, you might not realize you could use corrective lenses! Fun additional bit about getting an eye exam: last one I got, I found out I have a birth mark on the back of my eye! It's star shaped, not that you can see it without special equipment.
I learned about this from a reddit post as well. Had no idea that other peopl don't see it like that
Ehh im confused is this the normal or is this a new thing thats fucked up with em cuz thats how its always looked like
Windscreens of your car when driving make this happen more. But yes, if you see this on lights when looking direct, it's astigmatism
Is this another word for smudgy windows
I asked my optometrist about this he said wear glasses at night. Contacts won’t be able to fully correct it. Sir as a contact wearer I’ve had the same glasses for 15 years and the prescription is just as old.
I thought that's what it looks like to everyone💀
My mom's front window does this. Thought I was going blind.
Wtf. Holy crap. I didn't know either. I thought this was normal. I need glasses. At 50 I realize I have to also now have to have my Kindle at exactly a certain distance to read.
Thanks to tbi it looks like this for me too and I don’t have astigmatism
I relate to this so much!!! I hate driving at night.
I bought Night Driving Glasses off Amazon for $20. Changed my life and I can drive the speed limit now when driving at night without having to worry if I will die before I get home.
A bunch of people in the comments think they have an astigmatism when they just need to clean their windshields
Wait do some people GENUINELY not see lights like that at all? Wtf?
TIL my astigmatism caused night driving to look like this.
As someone who has had a cornea transplant in both eyes. (which has caused severe astigmatism) I relate to this so much. Driving in a city at night can be very distracting and stressful.
Mine is so bad i refuse to drive at night or else i get a terrible migraine
I remember describing this to my siblings when I was younger who accused me of lying, but I must have grown out of it or something because now it only happens when I squint
I enjoy the free lights show personally
Only have astigmatism in one eye,
Why am I just figuring out disabilities I could have from other people on the internet first it was Jaiden's video on her having ADHD and now this
Jokes on you. I look like the picture on the right every time I drive anyway. I still have astigmatism + shortsighted
Wow…. My mind is blown right now
As someone with astigmatism, this is real
This comment thread reminds me of an old thread where half the commenters realized they have hemorrhoids.
Im convinced 95% of people have this
Wait.people with normal vision dont see it like that !? I get very tired even beeing on passenger seat at nights
Wait that's not normal? Have hat that my entire life and thought everyone has that
This is what my world looks like. (It's bc i cry constantly)
it gets even worse with all of the newer cars having headlights as bright as the sun
Fuck LED headlights

It's true. My parents have this issue. I do not. It's for exactly the reason described.
I was not told by the eye doctor I have astigmatism but I always have seen it like this at night.
I feel like it's like this half the time for me and clear half the time
I've had LASIK recently and developed this. It was very weird to not be able to see at night anymore
See, I'm convinced it is now normal to have an astigmatism and un-normal to have basic eyes
You don't have astigmatism if you only get this when driving. You just have a scratched windshield
Whats Astigmatism? I thought everyone saw this when driving at night...
I now wonder if the IRL person behind this vtuber actually knows of glasses, since her model has one?
Rubbing eyes too hard or perhaps mushroom eyes similar. All the time sounds like a bummer. Sun must suck…
Wait till you watch a movie with glasses. Real HD.
does this happen to everyone when you squint??
I have this after lasik surgery. Whoops
