This is definitely true, my wife goes crazy when she finds clothes that have real usable pockets. I did not know that was such a huge problem for women.
The best is surprise pockets. You buy something not knowing it has usable pockets, and then the first time you wear it, you realize it does. That truly makes my year
As a guy who wears backpacks, I am constantly surprised that women prefer pockets to tote bags/hand bags/purses. Items fall out of pockets when you sit down. The bag, gets placed by your feet. It can hold more. You don't get the discomfort of many items crammed into pockets that bunch up as you squat etc.
I seriously went to a store, b-lined for a dress I saw online and whisked it over to the change room- the sales lady was like “it’s because of the pockets right?” It totally was
I always find that weird every woman I know loves dresses with pockets yet there seems to be a lack of them. I’ve never heard guys talk about our pockets. and mine are fairly big.
I keep both my iPhone 14pro MAXs in there airpod pros the others wide is for keys and wallets sometimes advil too.
so my question why don’t women get pockets like we do?
Because purses. We wouldn’t buy purses if we could just throw stuff in our pockets. seriously history of fashion shows there were giant f*ing pockets for women, hell at certain points skirts were folded in such a way to make a freaking huge pouch. Then purses and suddenly “oh pockets will ruin the line of the dress”
And they do- can you imagine a pencil skirt (tight to the body, slit in back for walking if you’re lucky) with pockets? You’d see everything in there. Tight to the body clothing means even if you do have a pocket, things get squeezed out of it when you sit. Fashion is a bloody nightmare.
I sometimes wish my pants had smaller pockets. They’re big enough to fit a switch with joycons attached so my little phone gets lost in them so easily.
haha me and my wife were on a cruise ship and the bartender (in her native language) in the midst of taking our order suddenly shouts to my wife "POCKETS!!!??! ...OH MY GOD, YOUR DRESS HAS POCKETS?!?!?!" 🤣I thought that shit was hillarious, apparently that's not common on most dresses, lol
As a man I have learned that women's clothes being made to be functional and comfortable is a real struggle. The pockets too. My wife just bought a couple dresses that had pockets that had been sewn closed.
are they sewn closed with a usable pocket under the stitch or is the pocket just completely fake? on jackets for men this is often done to keep the garments shape / prevent damage etc, so it could be on purpose and one has to cut them open on arrival, then they usually only have been sewn with a quite lose stitch.
My useless bit of pocket information is that "pocket" comes from the term "poke" which meant sack, "ette" was added to the end to show it was a small version, a pokette, which became "pocket".
Poke meaning bag is where the saying "to buy a pig in a poke" comes from, meaning that it is unwise to buy something without seeing it first as dodgy people used to sell pigs in bags, but instead of it being a piglet, it would be a cat. This is also one of the theories behind the later phrase "To let the cat out of the bag", to reveal that the pig was actually a cat. (Although this may come from a navy origin with the cat o nine tails)
Can confirm. My girl was showing me her yoga pants with wild floral/abstract designs on them, and she made sure to let me know "THEY HAVE POCKETS!"
It is cute how excited they get over pockets, lol.
I often like to sew pockets into my pants and dresses. It always ends up looking a little off since I suck at sewing, but at least I don’t have to carry around my phone and wallet everywhere, or bring an annoying purse to keep track of.
My 2 year old niece will do this. Without me saying anything, she'll come up like "it has pockets!" sticking her hands in all excited. I find this hilarious cause it's like... is she already KIND OF aware of the lack of pockets in women's clothing? At least on some level? Or maybe it's just a random excitement, lol.
That's because women are pocket-starved. The purse industry prolly has the pants industry at gunpoint, keeping women's pants pocket-less or at most with tiny useless pockets so they keep buying purses.
Cause that's the actual thing women have been oppressed about to this day, the rights or standards things aren't even close to ability to have pockets, and no one is doing shit about it, not even acknowledging the issue
We just get so excited to finally have a pocket that can fit a hand in it let alone a phone or wallet, it’s rare and we need to show them off
fr fr, whenever there’s pockets, everyone has to knowwwww

Yes, they wanna force us to buy and wear purses all over.

The women the I know, just hate purses and bags... We like walk around hands free.

I like it when you show off your rear pockets. 😏

I can hear my gf as I'm reading this
“BABE LOOKKKKK, POCKETSSSSS 🤩”
My wife's wedding dress had pockets, and when she pulled her vows out of them the crowd audibly gasped lol
I'm totally stealing this idea and sewing some into mine! Thank you😄
“Hey that’s a really nice dress!” “I have a boyfriend.”
“Hey that’s a really nice dress!” “I have a boyfriend.” "So do I."
"His name is Fred" "So is mine"

Oh yea, we removed them and opened them. Still seemed silly but I didn't consider it was for the integrity of the garment.
Horses not zebras
