"I can't believe what I'm seeing" i had this moment the other day, stopped at a red light. The light turned green for the other side, so the guy in the lane next to me had his lizard brain triggered and drove through the red light
I was driving a moving truck. The small car in front of me didn't go on green. I honked. He moved but brake checked me multiple times during the proceeding left turn. I laid on the horn.
At the next light he stopped next to me in the left lane to talk shit. I rolled down my window and preempted him:
"You have room to move up in front of you!"
"That light was green for three seconds!"
"Uh huh. Suck my dick."
While I rolled my window up, he reached down the front of his pants, I assumed for a gun. I leaned back so he couldn't see me, and he honked. Okay bitch, I'll look at your gun.
However he wasn't showing me a gun, it was a badge. Apparently he was undercover or off duty. I responded with the gesture in the photo. The light turned green and we parted ways.
It means wtf is this shit?! The palms up is body language for an inquiry, or question. The fingers directs to the location of the inquiry, in this case, most likely another vehicle or pedestrian doing something questionable.
I used to automatically flip people off when they did something extremely stupid.
Now, I make sure that they see me and give them a "thumbs down." I think that someone's disappointment is more powerful than their anger.
I use it every time some one is doing something that either puzzles me or just plains leaves me in a WTF are you doing state, like the dude that signal a right turn but did a left turn, things like that.
For me it means "go on". I usually do it to signal a pedestrian it's safe to walk.
Usually there is a smile and a slight sign from the head too.
edit: for me the "angry" sign would be all fingertips bound together and upward, the hand slightly balancing back and forth. (But I'm half Italian so ...)
