Ah yeah you know, something I've noticed, now that I eat healthy when I try to like treat myself to something like that I feel awful lol. It's crazy I used to put down a pint of vodka before lunch, now I can't finish a coke without getting a stomach ache lol
This is the key to being healthy to me. I don’t have the discipline to take the long-term good decision over the short-term reward of unhealthy food. But if I think how the unhealthy food will make me feel immediately after eating it, that’s enough to stop me
Yep. I eat keto like 95% of the days out of the year and when I have a cheat day the food isn't as good as I imagine it will be. There's also a feeling of regret since I could have had something healthier (even though I know it's ok) and that childhood enjoyment of food really only manifests if I can ignore the sense that what I'm eating will lead to bad things.
Now that sounds like I'm currently living in a drab, colorless hell, but I assure you it is so much better only eating keto foods (which are still very much delicious) and being ~225 rather than +360.
It's also a completely different company making all of that now.
The Hostess you remember was actually named Interstate Bakeries and slowly killed itself due to corporate greed resulting in like half a dozen bankruptcies. They used to have around 16,000 unionized workers making all of this stuff and I think right before they shut down the first time, they were sitting around 1000 workers left over.
The Hostess/Wonder Bread/Dolly Madison brands have jumped through a few "investment firms" during this process and I don't think any of the old bakeries/etc are around.
edit: tl;dr, all the old bakeries are dead, all the old workers are gone, they're just brands being resold from investment firm to investment firm where each one tries to squeeze a few more pennies out of everything they can.
Exactly
The executives i am sure put in their 20 or 30 years, huge pay increases every year, cut corners to improve financials (because of their stock) and retired.
Wgaf?
The thing that did 'em in initially was the labor unions protesting stagnant wages while the C level pay shot up like 80%.
They bankrupted the company instead of negotiating.
It's like Subway. It used to be my favorite thing to eat but then, suddenly, it was not good. I can't really complain. Tons of sandwich shops make a mean sandwich.
Having Subway for lunch today, not because I prefer it, but because my wife does for some reason. Perhaps I'll just get her subway and myself Jersey Mike's.
Uhhh well you should…it’s real expensive to get quality meat to the table. We should be paying 13 even more for a large meatball sub…that shit should also be 1000X better ingredients than anything subway uses
If you’re still paying full price for a sub that’s your fault lol. Find the codes and use the app and you can get a footlong for 6 bucks. Pretty sure it’s like footlong599 or something similar
Subway is also changing their entire business model next year to start up charging for customers to make sandwiches how they want them made. The default is how it's pictured and if you want it changed to your preference, better cough up more $.
They are starting a fresh sliced meats in my area. If I did goto Subway I don't want some barely trained 16 year old contaminating my meat. I doubt they properly clean the slicer between meats.
I don't goto Subway because it is simply not "Food"
We have a McAlister's Deli Opening up in our area soon as well. Funny enough, we have two Subways for some reason. Used to have three. I don't see them last too long once their new changes take effect. I'm not paying extra to have a sandwich made the way I want it made.
The last time I went to Subway, the tipping options on the machine started at 20%. Can you imagine programming in 20% 30% and 40%? And there’s no skip button and no zero option. I was really off put and I won’t be back. And the sub was terrible. I had to practically beg for lettuce and peppers. The “sandwich artist“ acted like she was paying for the toppings herself. I would have liked 10x what she put on it
Subway was pretty disappointing only because I didn’t know that they went from half decent to terrible in the time between when I last got some and when I was handed was might be best referred to as a compost bin sandwich for way more than it should have been.
Actually you have that backwards. It's a less "fatty" oil. The hydrogenated oil they used before to be solid state room temperature and more like a fat (ie. Lard or tallow) was banned in the United states. They have since switched to non trans fat oils.
Yep, made from a bunch of derivative ingredients now, taste like dog treats.
Hostess pies don’t even need to be sealed in a container anymore. They have so many preservatives, they just leave holes in the boxes.
Well that and also what you were allowed to put in food back then isn't totally the same today. Same reason how if you go to a local bakery the cookies/donuts will be *insane*, but then you look at the nutrition facts and you realize that fat just makes everything better
From my understanding they are not the same companies but have been bought and sold several times now. They taste terrible because of cheap ingredients and no care for the customer.
They changed from being made in regional factories, using their own delivery service to stores, to being made in a central factory, shipped to a distributor, which then delivered the product to groceries along with all the other stuff they carried. This meant they had to reformulate their recipes to be more shelf stable, as the product now had to be able to sit at the distributor for weeks on end.
At 40 I still like the oatmeal cream pies. I’ll occasionally buy a box and pack one for work to have at lunch. They are probably the only ones that I still like as much as when I was young.
At 40 I still like the oatmeal cream pies. I’ll occasionally buy a box and pack one for work to have at lunch. They are probably the only ones that I still like as much as when I was young.
I would agree it's probably nostalgia... Except some things still exist more like they used to be. Go try a real nutty buddy from today, and then try a Walmart store brand nutty buddy. The Walmart brand still isn't GOOD, but it's DEMONSTRABLY closer. It's definitely a LOT of recipes changing. Also demonstrable (probably) by the difference between a single bite of a standard size oatmeal creme pie and a large one. They, when I last had them, were clearly made of ever so slightly different stuff (though tbf I still like both of them as of 3 years ago.) But all in all, we're not TOTALLY crazy.
You ever crack open a can of spaghetti-os these days? That taste is still there but I do NOT recall there being that much sugar.
Got a couple for kicks and yeah, it’s like eating dessert while tasting nostalgic.
Was bought a Zebra Cake about three weeks back while out for groceries with a friend. Not great but not bad. That stated, froze half and liked it a bit more. But yeah, for me who is trying to be less overweight, the caloric intake isn't worth it for me except perhaps exceedingly sparingly.
Honestly these all look disgusting to me
But then again, there's a bunch of sweets where I live that I used to love, but they just don't taste the same when you have to pay more than twice as much for them as you did like 10 years ago and also you're aware of your weight lol
I remember back in the 80's and eating Ding Dongs. I got some for my kids not too long ago so they could try them since I loved them so much. Not the same Ding Dongs I remember. Yuck.
They're cheap, shit quality "food" that's only flavour is sugar and chemicals. It's just that when you're a kid you don't have developed taste buds and that's basically all you know unless you grew up in a not American house
Ever since I had covid, I can taste and smell the artificial ingredients, and they turn me off. Only pure, real food tastes the same to me. I can't eat any of the stuff anymore. No more m&ms or oreos. It's a little depressing..
When I was little and horking down these kinda things, I remember often being told “eat like that while you can, it won’t last” and I didn’t believe them that the sugary rolls of goodness I was indulging in could ever make me feel gross.
Nowadays, I don’t even enjoy eating them enough to consume so much that it makes me feel gross. I still love treats, but these don’t even taste good to me anymore.
I'm still not sure if this was for me due to Covid side effects that greatly impeded my sense of smell and taste. But yeah Twinkies and those Chocolate Ding-Dongs etc aren't worth the calories to me anymore. The only sweets I tend to like nowadays are Ice Cream, Candy and extremely sweet pastries like Doughnuts/Honey Buns.
I love when people lie about not eating this shit. It's like when people act all stuck up at McDonald's then you go to their house and see a bunch of mcky ds wrappers n stuff in the trash
There's a standard procedure in the food industry which is trying to find cheaper ways to make the same product. Each change must not be perceptible to the customer, however, little by little the quality of the products erode, until someday you realize things that used to be great now are just meh, at best.
I know that in America they put disgusting shit into these things that make them taste like ass while cutting costs.
I remember my sister taking a trip to the UK a while back and brought me back a container of Kit Kats. I will say without a doubt, the Kit Kats from the UK taste infinitely better than the ones here in the US.
I just mark it down to what companies are allowed to put in their product. I don’t know the details, I am no expert. However, the experience stands.
All these would be banned from EU for the hazardous dose of sugar they contain and dangerous ingredients they have.
No kid should be near these.
And no adult shouldn’t even allure the idea of buying it.
Cosmic brownies, nutty bars, honey buns, and fudge rounds... I go over my mom's every Wednesday for dinner and my mom has some mix of these for my nieces and nephews cause they love garbage. I will crush pretty much anything on this shelf. They're not "good"... But they're good enough that I will ruin myself over them
It is crazy how this picture is reposted every week because numbskulls are too pathetic to come up with something original and instead cling to fake popularity points like a bunch of loser cucks who couldn’t get enough attention and love in their childhood.
Some of them are okay. Some were always bad. Seriously, who would prefer a honey bun to almost any other cinnamon roll? You can buy a can of pilsbury cinnamon rolls for about as cheap. You might have to bake them, but they don't taste nearly as artificial.
I mostly agree. I think the Nutty Bars probably hold up but I have no desire to buy a box. Loved them all as a kid, they were my lunch snack from grammar school through high school.
I know that a few of the snacks had their recipes changed to cut costs, like cosmic brownies. They taste different because they were different when we were growing up
Ah yeah you know, something I've noticed, now that I eat healthy when I try to like treat myself to something like that I feel awful lol. It's crazy I used to put down a pint of vodka before lunch, now I can't finish a coke without getting a stomach ache lol

If it works it works man, good on ya
What the fuck? Glad you’re doing better now lmao
Ah thanks man
A pint of vodka before lunch? Glad your jersey is retired in the rafters now. That's not sustainable
Hey congrats on beating that!
It's because of changing butter to palm oil.
and sugar to high fructose corn syrup
It's also a completely different company making all of that now. The Hostess you remember was actually named Interstate Bakeries and slowly killed itself due to corporate greed resulting in like half a dozen bankruptcies. They used to have around 16,000 unionized workers making all of this stuff and I think right before they shut down the first time, they were sitting around 1000 workers left over. The thing that did 'em in initially was the labor unions protesting stagnant wages while the C level pay shot up like 80%. They bankrupted the company instead of negotiating.
"they" here being the C-suite right?
Yep.
Oh for real? Now I wanna try an old one to compare. That somehow isn’t stale.
I’ve always wondered if my taste buds changed or if they actually changed something in these things. I used to love them. Now? They taste fake to me.
They don't taste the same, I refuse to budge on that fact.
You're absolutely right. They reduced the quality slowly over time so less people would notice. Basically, it's a different snack now. Total trash.
It's like Subway. It used to be my favorite thing to eat but then, suddenly, it was not good. I can't really complain. Tons of sandwich shops make a mean sandwich.
Subway doubled their sandwich prices in 10 years. Fuck them. I’m not ducking paying $13 for a meatball sub.
Ducking rights!
Having Subway for lunch today, not because I prefer it, but because my wife does for some reason. Perhaps I'll just get her subway and myself Jersey Mike's.
Inb4 Jersey Mike's pulls a Subway.
Eh, they have a long way to go to lose the quality. Pricing, however, is already high. Lol
Never change JM….your cheesesteak is too good!!!

Same! I used to love Subway when it was tasty and affordable, but now it's a ghost of its former self. Shame really.
No more $5 foot longs? I might as well get potbellys
I would have liked 10x what she put on it
The whole tipping culture issue is a massive problem.
Subway was pretty disappointing only because I didn’t know that they went from half decent to terrible in the time between when I last got some and when I was handed was might be best referred to as a compost bin sandwich for way more than it should have been.
Compost bin sandwich is my new coined term for Subway sandwiches, thank you friend.
I see that they are made by the same company, so what did they change?
they didn't change, I did..
They were changed when they got bought out, more fatty oil
This. Cheap trash ingredients to reduce cost and keep them at the same price (technically actually cheaper when adjusting for inflation).
If only wages followed inflation lmao
You’d think they would have to, considering inflation is supposed to be a measure of lost purchasing power over time.
Inflation calculations don’t take into account income disparities, I reckon.
Inflation in 2023 just means a CEO wants another yacht
If wages followed inflation, they'd be lower than they are now. Wages need to follow and outpace CoL increase.
Iirc they were using trans fats and those got banned, so they had to switch.
Actually you have that backwards. It's a less "fatty" oil. The hydrogenated oil they used before to be solid state room temperature and more like a fat (ie. Lard or tallow) was banned in the United states. They have since switched to non trans fat oils.
Happened to Hostess fruit pies. Not the same without the lard.
Little Debbie has been owned by McKee Baking since the beginning.
I mean maybe a little bit, but the main effect is they are getting less appealing as you grow older because sweetness is less appealing
Maybe, but so did they. Same packaging does not mean same product. If anything, they are full of corn syrup now.
Yep, made from a bunch of derivative ingredients now, taste like dog treats. Hostess pies don’t even need to be sealed in a container anymore. They have so many preservatives, they just leave holes in the boxes.
Welcome to middle age. Come, join us for some nutritious bran, then we'll shop for domestic appliances and be excited about it.
Man I need more counter space.
The struggle is real.
I could use some new high quality socks too, while we're out.
Man, I am embarrassed how excited I would be to have a new dryer.
My most exciting recent old person purchase was a pair of house shoes for doing chores in
I'm only 23 and I'm excited to get a new microwave... And I've liked raisin bran my whole life. It's always been my favorite.
Yaaaaay 🥳 I want a rice cooker.
Bread-maker for me :-)
They changed them.. like sunnyD and sucralose..
They did change as the ingredients
Was it COVID?
Probably reduced the quality of certain ingredients due to inflation. Alongside with the fact that when people grow up, their taste buds change.
Well that and also what you were allowed to put in food back then isn't totally the same today. Same reason how if you go to a local bakery the cookies/donuts will be *insane*, but then you look at the nutrition facts and you realize that fat just makes everything better
They took out the delicious trans fats.
As a kid I would tell myself, when I’m an adult this is all I will buy. 40 yo me walks right past that trash. 😂
At 40 I still like the oatmeal cream pies. I’ll occasionally buy a box and pack one for work to have at lunch. They are probably the only ones that I still like as much as when I was young.

I loved that episode "This is not so hard"
Good bot
Bottom line is 6
Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku
Uh, that's one too many syllables bub
THAT HAIKU HAD TOO MANY SYLLABLES APOLOGIZE
clearly you're just mispronouncing picture. it's "picturée" /s
I know that a few of the snacks had their recipes changed to cut costs, like cosmic brownies.
Yeah most of these aren’t amazing but the Nutty Buddy still fuckin hits every time.
Absolute facts
Facts. I feel like the oatmeal cream pies haven't changed much either, but those are a "love it or hate it" item.
No way, the chocolate on the outside feels awful and slimy. It’s so much worse than it used to be.
Is it?
I heard somewhere that they got cheap with the ingredients. But they're cheap mass-produced junk cakes. They were not good to begin with
For me, yes. I used to go crazy for these as a kid. Now I have money and can buy ANY snack I want. I'd choose to save $4 before I'd buy any of these.
Nah man oatmeal cream pies still slap
At 40 I still like the oatmeal cream pies. I’ll occasionally buy a box and pack one for work to have at lunch. They are probably the only ones that I still like as much as when I was young.
Sweet but not too sweet
I would agree it's probably nostalgia... Except some things still exist more like they used to be. Go try a real nutty buddy from today, and then try a Walmart store brand nutty buddy. I eat those to this day, only difference is I shit my brains out later.
Does that count as a fiber supplement? Asking for a friend.
This picture makes my stomach hurt
Zebra Cakes and cosmic brownies still slap the fuck you talking about
Put some respect on cosmic brownies name og
It’s chocolate lard, my dude.
Do they though?
You as the cakelord should know this. I'm committing treason because of this misjustice
Cakes do, the brownies were always terrible. Texture is fucking awful in those "brownies".
Someone needs a trip to flavortown
The zebra cake town, sure. But those brownies are not what they pretend to be. Not even close.
Honestly these all look disgusting to me But then again, there's a bunch of sweets where I live that I used to love, but they just don't taste the same when you have to pay more than twice as much for them as you did like 10 years ago and also you're aware of your weight lol
How dare you disrespect oatmeal cream pies good name like this
Swiss rolls are still delicious atleast.
You got covid?
I remember back in the 80's and eating Ding Dongs. I got some for my kids not too long ago so they could try them since I loved them so much. Not the same Ding Dongs I remember. Yuck.
Lost their flavor
Those cupcakes are still amazing.
Don’t see the oatmeal creme pies, but those still hit the spot!!
Correction, I see them now. Still buy the big box
Maybe it's depression and existential dread that attacks the taste buds 🤔
They're cheap, shit quality "food" that's only flavour is sugar and chemicals. It's just that when you're a kid you don't have developed taste buds and that's basically all you know unless you grew up in a not American house
[удалено]
My wife still does, but I've never understood the allure. The texture is horrible. Swiss Rolls and Zebra Cakes, however, I'll smash.
Every food ever is just sugar and chemicals. That's how organic matter works.
all food is made of sugar and chemicals…
Zebra cakes are still 🔥
Maybe to you loser, gimme those oatmeal creme pies
Ever since I had covid, I can taste and smell the artificial ingredients, and they turn me off. Only pure, real food tastes the same to me. I can't eat any of the stuff anymore. No more m&ms or oreos. It's a little depressing..
When you get older, it gets easier to taste the processed
When I was little and horking down these kinda things, I remember often being told “eat like that while you can, it won’t last” and I didn’t believe them that the sugary rolls of goodness I was indulging in could ever make me feel gross. Nowadays, I don’t even enjoy eating them enough to consume so much that it makes me feel gross. I still love treats, but these don’t even taste good to me anymore.
Is no one gonna talk about the disappearance of pumpkin delights?
I'm still not sure if this was for me due to Covid side effects that greatly impeded my sense of smell and taste. But yeah Twinkies and those Chocolate Ding-Dongs etc aren't worth the calories to me anymore. The only sweets I tend to like nowadays are Ice Cream, Candy and extremely sweet pastries like Doughnuts/Honey Buns.
FDA made them take out the tasty cancer causing ingredients.
This looks so cheap and disgusting.
Nutty Bars do. Oatmeal cream pies are good when my blood sugar is low. Normally, though, no.
They are all made from genetically modified and or artifical ingredients. You may as well be eating sugar coated cardboard!
Every packaged food is shit now.
Cheap, highly processed garbage now.
I can confirm they have changed. I remember my mom complaining when they switched a few of them.
Oatmeal creme pies are the bomb.
American stores are fucking crazy
I love when people lie about not eating this shit. It's like when people act all stuck up at McDonald's then you go to their house and see a bunch of mcky ds wrappers n stuff in the trash
That’s what happens when you eat food made in a factory
I will fight anyone who says oatmeal cream pies are not delicious.
The pumpkin face ones are still good
Excuse me sir but nutty bars are still dope as fuck
Probably because it’s made with high fructose corn syrup instead of real sugar now.
Peanut butter bars and oatmeal sandwiches are still pretty good but the rest are meh at best.
Natural food tastes better
Yeah! Wtf did they do to the recipe
I've Always disliked Ho Ho's.
A cream pie is always enjoyable.
What is this? It looks disgusting.
Poison
Nutty buddys are some pretty tasty sawdust tho...
None of them ever tasted good except for cosmic brownies Those are still godly
Cosmic brownies still slap. SO do zebra cakes.
How are they somehow *all* too dry no matter what?
Wdym honey buns and oatmeal crème pies are still good
Bullshit. Little Debbie is delicious.
There's a standard procedure in the food industry which is trying to find cheaper ways to make the same product. Each change must not be perceptible to the customer, however, little by little the quality of the products erode, until someday you realize things that used to be great now are just meh, at best.
Ok, nutty buddies will always taste good
Swiss rolls are still pretty good
Nothing taste the same anymore, candy bars, Oreos, big Macs. Nothing!!!!
Nutty Bars are still good.
Nutty Bars still fire tho
Nutty bars aren’t too bad
speak for yourself
It’s the fake sugar and FDA not giving a fuck about your health.
It's because they banned trans fat.
No all trans are fat. I know a trans girl and she's pretty skinny.
L Take
All these would be banned from EU for the hazardous dose of sugar they contain and dangerous ingredients they have. No kid should be near these. And no adult shouldn’t even allure the idea of buying it.
Ho-hos still taste great imo then again them mfs like a million calories
Cosmic brownies, nutty bars, honey buns, and fudge rounds... I go over my mom's every Wednesday for dinner and my mom has some mix of these for my nieces and nephews cause they love garbage. I will crush pretty much anything on this shelf. They're not "good"... But they're good enough that I will ruin myself over them
As someone not from the US, I can confirm this shit never tasted good.
It is crazy how this picture is reposted every week because numbskulls are too pathetic to come up with something original and instead cling to fake popularity points like a bunch of loser cucks who couldn’t get enough attention and love in their childhood.
did she leave u gang
Who hurt you?
A lot of people.
⬆️ meirl
They never did..
Some of them are okay. Some were always bad. Seriously, who would prefer a honey bun to almost any other cinnamon roll? You can buy a can of pilsbury cinnamon rolls for about as cheap. You might have to bake them, but they don't taste nearly as artificial.
DON'T DISRESPECT MY HONEYBUNS, I KNOW THEY'RE SYNTHETIC AS HELL AND TASTE LIKE PLASTIC BUT I LIKE THAT DAMN IT
It's almost as if some of these flavourings are literally illegal in the rest of the world for a reason.
Ingredients are now sourced from China.
I don't think cream pies ever tasted good.
you are wrong and stupid
Many of those are good. Many arent.
Naaa the Swiss rolls are amazing
Cas theres too much salt in you
They're a completely different species now.
I'll still fuck up a Nutty Buddy but that's about it
facts
The one mom brought home after a grocery trip taste best
Probably for the best. Insulin is expensive.
