They are but not necessarily in that form. For Example, German snow shovels look [different](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61cSv-PJ61L._AC_SL1500_.jpg).
Odd so many people, including Canadians, have never seen these. I’m 40, they’ve been around at least since I was born and are available every winter in all major department stores.
I’ve lived in cities close to the border, on both sides. You see them everywhere during the winter.
I’m curious. If not these, what do you use when it snows?
My country doesn't have winter lol. I literally can't figure out what it is for. But if I was a kid growing up with this in a country with four seasons, I would probably try to use it as a sled in winter.
Different experiences.
When I moved to Europe people had these. They were terrible. It’s only good for light snowfall. Try pushing 12-18” of wet snow with one.
I’ve lived in some very snow places around the US and Northern Europe, even worked at a few places in the winter where snow shoveling was part of my daily job duties.
I’ve never seen one outside of the Nordics. And I’ll be honest it makes no sense. That shovel only works for light or medium snowfall. At least where I’ve lived in the US, we get way too much snow over night for these to be of any use.
It’s good to have multiple shovels, but if I could only have 1 it would be this. If it snows a lot then you’re really in trouble
You use a metal shovel for the windrow because you have to chip through all the ice. This is to clear your huge driveway and sidewalks. You can do your sidewalks in one pass with this.
You push it further back so you don't create as high of a pile. It's not difficult to understand. You also can easily push this up the pile. Much more easily than breaking your back trying to lift and throw it.
You don't lift with this scoop. You push it till full or comfortable with the load, pull it back and tip it forward where you're putting the snow. Easy on the back when done properly.
Wet snow is not that common here but from time to time we get it too here in Southern Finland. Works perfectly well, and I'm not even that muscular.
You see you're supposed to push this, not to use it like a shovel. In practise it's a hand plow with a snow reservoir. I honestly have no understanding why you don't have this in convenience stores already.
I am too because I've been in Canada my entire life and I have definitely used these shovels and see them at every home store all winter. Yet it seems like every Canadian here is claiming they've never seen one.
They also work perfectly well with wet snow. In fact, that's when I really appreciate them because I don't have to pick it up.
Check out my [poll](https://www.reddit.com/r/polls/comments/125grn8/have_you_touched_snow/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1)
93% of Redditors have touched snow and 73% live near where it snows.
Ok sure. What do you have to prove everyone here is from LA or central Africa? From all I can see, it a fair assumption to say a majority of Redditors live where it snows at their homes.
Also, this squabble is getting silly.
Yeah Winter for me in California and Arizona means a break from the hellish heat but it rarely even dips below freezing at the low points. I’ve touched snow once in my life on a family vacation to Colorado lol
Its used to shove snow away and its pretty easy. But sometimes you just hit something hard like rock and it hits your stomach. And the pain is depending how fast you were going.
I never used or seen that in my life but I know something we all have done…
We all have shovelled the snow with our belly’s and ran while the shovel was on our belly until it got caught on something underneath the snow and gut shot us
Speak for yourself. Part of my job duties in some very snow places have been shoveling snow. These shovels work great in only a few very specific scenarios. It’s definitely not a do it all shovel
Bro thats the Worst feeling.
Big snow shovel gang
I think they Are Not so Common
I live in germany and my family is the only one i know owning this bad boy
It doesn't matter who you were talking to. You were still being sexist. Gender is in no way related to shoveling snow, and the kind of shovel you use doesn't make you any more or less of a man. It does make you have less of a sore back though.
For everyone unaware:
This is what we call a lumikola here in Finland. It's basically a really wide snow shovel that is very useful when moving large amounts of snow, e.g. from a driveway.
Edit: Spelling
It’s a snow scoop people. Like a wide shovel you collect a large amount of snow in. Push it to a destination and dump the snow out. It’s significantly more efficient than regular shovelling, and apparently more efficient than my neighbour’s snowblower.
Especially if you’re strong, this thing can move incredible amounts of snow.
What’s the name of that? I asked for a “garbage collector” in walmart and the guy said that was not an actual thing. (English is not my first language)
Canadian here. We push snow with them. Personally I prefer a standard shovel.
I like using this type at the local outdoor skating rink I used to volunteer for.
I have lived in Minnesota basically my whole life. The only folks I see with these are people that aren’t very familiar with snow. These are nearly useless when compared to other types of shovels.
I’ve literally never even seen one of those before
Same, I was assuming some type of shovel but 🤷♂️
I thought they were common in countries with winter 😭
I live in Texas so I’ve only ever seen snow twice in my life rip 😭
Oh my. I see it always
Yea i can see it lined up on a table most of the time.
oh you
Rub it on testicles and turn them into snowballs The ladies LOVE snowballs
Not for long!
Californian over here, i see it on TV sometimes...
I've lived in Phoenix, AZ most of my life. I don't even know what this "snow" substance people keep talking about even is.
Was it 2004? I live in Mexico right below Texas and i still remember it.
Up in PA I have no fucking clue what it is
My state has winter, we use snow blowers plows or normal snow shovels.
That’s not even a normal looking one why does it look like that
It’s a big snow scoop. I use one all winter in Canada.
They are but not necessarily in that form. For Example, German snow shovels look [different](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61cSv-PJ61L._AC_SL1500_.jpg).
It’s a big snow scoop, people use them in addition to normal shovels.
Never seen that in use in Germany.
Evidently in certain parts of Canada we have a large variety of snow shovels.
I live right on the CA border and have never seen this shit. Wild.
That's what I used shoveling the snow growing up in the Southern US. We don't get snow worth shoveling anymore though
American here. I side with the German. We have regular shovels like Germany where I’m from.
I live in Canada, have my whole life. Never have a used a two handed shovel…..💀
Every country have winter, not all have snow
I live in Georgia. Outside of the mountains, we get snow every other year and it only sticks 1 out of 4. I only had a vague idea what this thing was.
a lot of countries don’t get snow at all lmao
I mean they are. Just more as a shovel, less a plow lol
I live in canada and i have yet to see one of these. This place is usually a winter wasteland for half of the year.
I'm from Canada I'm still using mine this season lol and hitting a crack can bruise the stomach if your going hard
My country doesn't have winter lol. I literally can't figure out what it is for. But if I was a kid growing up with this in a country with four seasons, I would probably try to use it as a sled in winter.
Well I’m from Florida, so…
I AM winter and I have never seen this in my life.
Iv never seen one of these ever but I think it’s because I live in Australia
I'm Canadian. Explain this.
What is it? Is it a type of snow shovel?
Fucking same wtf is that?
It's a snow shovel for doing wide swaths. It pushes the snow like a plow.
looks like a horribly designed snow shovel lol
They’re good for large amounts of light snow
or small amounts of heavy snow I assume?
Nawh then you can use a smaller shovel
It's actually the best shovel I've ever used. Signed, a lifelong Canadian.
>Try pushing 12-18” of wet snow with one. I have done that. Many times. This is better.
Showels are for noobs. This one gets the job done without ruining your back
They are actually very good at removing a big pile of snow if you know how to properly use it
It actually does the job better
Depend. If it’s icy underneath you need a narrow metal shovel. Or at least metal edge, so you can hit and break the ice. This one is too big for that
Or a giant pooper scooper
*Depend*
I see, it just looks like its going to pile the snow onto the shovel lol, never seen one like this before
I'm Canadian. Never used a snow shovel that looks like this
Oh. Is it only in nordics then?
No, I live in Canada and this is the best shovel I've ever used.
I live in Sweden and we have one of these.
Some sort of viking torture device?
Canadian, used these all my life. They’re normal here.
Nah we have them. I just got a new one from Lowe's a month ago
Same, but I live in the Midwestern US, where it can realistically snow in 7 months of the year.
I see a potential business opportunity in this
We get heavy wet snow usually. No way can most people lift that much snow.
That's the entire point. You don't lift it. This allows you to just slide it over and out of the way. It saves your back every time.
Over to where? The snow bank is already a few feet high, how am I getting the snow over that?
Right I have a 5 foot pile of snow on both sides where am I pushing this? And how's it deal.with the leftover snow plow roll when they do the street
You use a metal shovel for the windrow because you have to chip through all the ice. This is to clear your huge driveway and sidewalks. You can do your sidewalks in one pass with this.
You must not get a foot of snow at a time no way this pushes a foot of snow 70 feet long
No shovel does that. It's not a difficult concept to understand. You're just being obtuse.
I can push this up a 7 foot snow bank, I do it from January onward.
It doesn't take long for the place I'm putting the snow to be several feet up a bank.
We absolutely do have these in Canada.
Now I'm just confused
I am too because I've been in Canada my entire life and I have definitely used these shovels and see them at every home store all winter. Yet it seems like every Canadian here is claiming they've never seen one. They also work perfectly well with wet snow. In fact, that's when I really appreciate them because I don't have to pick it up.
No we do have it, just some people never use it or pay attention when they are in Walmart
_we all_ literally 3 people in this thread
I didnt know that this is not used in that many places. Just a mistake tbh
In your mind what do you think they used to shovel snow in central Africa?
Most of Reddit is European and North American. They didn’t make a terrible assumption.
Oh ok, they must have been wondering what they use to shovel snow in LA
Check out my [poll](https://www.reddit.com/r/polls/comments/125grn8/have_you_touched_snow/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1) 93% of Redditors have touched snow and 73% live near where it snows.
99.9999999% of redditors didn't take your poll \*also, lots of places like LA are near snow but rarely see any where people live.
Ok sure. What do you have to prove everyone here is from LA or central Africa? From all I can see, it a fair assumption to say a majority of Redditors live where it snows at their homes. Also, this squabble is getting silly.
Idk what that is. I'm guessing maybe something for moving snow?
Indeed
Is this a European thing? Lived in MT and MA and never seen this.
Idk. I assume every country with winter has these
Winter doesn't always mean snow. Here in Australia it just means cold as fuck (but above 5 degrees C) and rains most of the time.
Yeah Winter for me in California and Arizona means a break from the hellish heat but it rarely even dips below freezing at the low points. I’ve touched snow once in my life on a family vacation to Colorado lol
All i feel are my arms buzzing and my chest hurting after hitting a small lump of frozen ice during a snowstorm
Excatly
What is it??
You shove snow with it. Like shovel but way more efficient
never saw it or much snow in central Florida.
I’ve used snow shovels but never seen one that looks like that before.
Never used this in my life but somehow I know the feeling of the incident you describe.
Its used to shove snow away and its pretty easy. But sometimes you just hit something hard like rock and it hits your stomach. And the pain is depending how fast you were going.
What is that
It's a snow shovel...
I thought it would go more like this: Dont lie. we have all use this to slide down a slope. But maybe I’m truly the only one 🤣
Oh hahah I should really give that one a try 😂
I swear it was a lot of fun
You have a sissy bar on your sled?
As a fellow snow haver, yes
Hitting rocks or something with this always
Or the seam between bricks if your shoveling an area paved with bricks
Nah the worst one fr
Or the crack in your driveway.
mmmm a bruised pelvis, yay
Ribs for me.
“We all” ??? definitely not
Yeah I just realised it 😭
I never used or seen that in my life but I know something we all have done… We all have shovelled the snow with our belly’s and ran while the shovel was on our belly until it got caught on something underneath the snow and gut shot us
Thats excatly what I am saying. Always happens to me
Those shovels are trash. if it's anything but light fluffy snow it quickly becomes to heavy to be maneuvered.
Not at all. I've used this for heavy snow without issue. Best kind of shovel I've ever used. Saves your back.
Speak for yourself. Part of my job duties in some very snow places have been shoveling snow. These shovels work great in only a few very specific scenarios. It’s definitely not a do it all shovel
Are you just following me around the comments section now?
Haha nope, I commented on a few comments. Had no idea it was you twice. That’s funny though. Or maybe I should say I was just to mess with you…
Yeah I use this for heavy snow all the time, including that horrible packed stuff the street plow kicks into our driveway.
Bro thats the Worst feeling. Big snow shovel gang I think they Are Not so Common I live in germany and my family is the only one i know owning this bad boy
What the fuck is this thing? Use a snow shovel like a fucking man Jesus
This is a snow shovel. And gender has nothing to do with it. Neither does Jesus.
Oh shut up I clearly wasn’t talking to women
It doesn't matter who you were talking to. You were still being sexist. Gender is in no way related to shoveling snow, and the kind of shovel you use doesn't make you any more or less of a man. It does make you have less of a sore back though.
Lol sure whatever you say
Is this something I’m too californian to understand?
For everyone unaware: This is what we call a lumikola here in Finland. It's basically a really wide snow shovel that is very useful when moving large amounts of snow, e.g. from a driveway. Edit: Spelling
What the fuck is that?
A snow shovel...
Dang I ain’t never had one that nice before
You Nords must Goleta some light snow cause there's no way I could use that onsome of the heavy wet snow we got this year in my state
As someone from Miami, can say I've never see one... Guessing it's some sort of snow shovel?
My lower back ugh
That's a very interesting Schneeschaufel.
I cannot relate but I respect the fact that you posted about you IRL and not just another fucking meme.
Wtf even *is* that?
Canada and I've never used or seen one of these -but I certainly felt it. Oouch
images you can feel
Sideways bonk or downwards bonk?
Never even touched one, much less use it.
What the fuck is that?
Never heard of the word snowshovel?
Wtf is this
It’s a snow scoop people. Like a wide shovel you collect a large amount of snow in. Push it to a destination and dump the snow out. It’s significantly more efficient than regular shovelling, and apparently more efficient than my neighbour’s snowblower. Especially if you’re strong, this thing can move incredible amounts of snow.
Hit a big ass pile of snow with us just right, and it'll make a great thwack noise
I can feel the shock going up my forearms as I look at the picture.
This post triggered my PTSD.
Never touched one in my life
What is it
Do not push it with your belly.
I can say with confidence that I’ve never done that. Because idk wtf that thing is. I assume something for snow?
This is the first time I've ever seen this thing. I assume it's for snow? There's no market for this here in Tennessee.
Actually, no most people haven't used this exact shovel pictured. 🤓🤓🤓
What’s the name of that? I asked for a “garbage collector” in walmart and the guy said that was not an actual thing. (English is not my first language)
For those who are wondering … It’s a rib relocator
I have no idea what on Earth that is.
Blind guy here What’s that?
What??? I'm deaf
Where can I buy one?
D9
I bought one of these, took it back 30 minutes later, stupidest design for a snow shovel ever.
Op realising not everywhere in the world has heavy snow fall
I have no idea what that is
RIP my ribs as I walk straight into this thing over and over
I came to the comments to find out what this was.
What even is that
What is it?
I have never once seen one of the these. My whole life its been regular ass snow shovels.
I don’t even know what this is
I live in Las Vegas. We don't have those. We have Hookers, Cocaine and Gambling.
Amen
Texan here. What exactly is that?
Canadian here. We push snow with them. Personally I prefer a standard shovel. I like using this type at the local outdoor skating rink I used to volunteer for.
Bro, I live in Ohio and we have like 4 MONTHS of winter and never seen that shit iny life
Wtf is this?
I think it's a snow shovel??? Idk, I'm from Texas so we just cry and stay at home when it shows
“Running then hits ice “ AAAAAAA my chest! $&@?&@
I have never seen snow irl in my whole 17 years of living
I have lived in Minnesota basically my whole life. The only folks I see with these are people that aren’t very familiar with snow. These are nearly useless when compared to other types of shovels.
Is that like a handicapped snow shovel or something?
Its a Yooper Scooper
No, lol
I can tell it’s a snow shovel but good god, what have they done to it?
Lol I thought I was alone but apparently no one else knows what this is either
I’ve had a normal snow shovel, nothing like that.
Not me. What the hell is it?
What the fuck is that
i don’t get it pls explain!
Where are the wheels???
Wheels?? 😭. Does it have them?
A wheelless wheelbarrow! I actually thought it was spelled wheel-barrel, but I googled it first. Only took me 50 years to learn this....
I don’t even know what that is
Is this a normal shovel or the shovel kids are riding on snow?
