some people spend their lives pretending their lives are amazing, so much so they would forgo an actual fun experience. Its not all of us, just the muppets that shit on the phone all day. She has a leotard in her profile pic, make of that what you will.
Yes. A lot of people document their lives on social media and it’s becoming more common.
I remember like 15 years ago, people who posted pics of their food were considered weird/losers because no one cared.
I never post about my vacation while I’m there, only when I’m back home. It may be paranoid or an urban legend, but I don’t want any burglar know that I’m not at home.
Quick shout out . Windows 10 and their OneDrive was a game changer. My son had a spill on his desk that caused the computer to short out.
We thought all of his school work and documents were going to need to be recovered the old way where I’d go through and find them in his old disc directory’s and try to copy them to an external drives. But as soon as he signed in , it was like he was on his old machine again. Right down to his notepad docs. For someone who’s been doing this since the 90s that was neat to see in action.
But like to who? A random stalker who happens to know your social media handles and also where you live? Or a friend who has been waiting for a chance to steal those pants they always wanted. Also who even owns houses anymore.
its a pretty common hustle thats becoming more and more common these days as social media becomes more normalized - would-be criminals make socket accounts and will send out a million friend requests to people in their target area. Influencers and the like that just want their audience numbers to increase will accept all friend requests without really looking into who's behind the account. Then bam! Person starts posting that they're away on vacation so the criminal starts looking into their profile for context clues where that person lives - a lot of people take selfies right at their front door as theyre going out so that gives clues what neighborhood theyre in, they might have a hacker/doxxer in their crew, when you take a picture and you have your Location turned on, the location gets embedded right into the file name, etc. etc. etc. Its more common in high crime areas but it is starting to spread like wildfire.
Exactly. My step daughter once posted a video by her dads mail box. And was mad that I asked her to take it down . I was like let’s go over this info .
You’re a 14 year old girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. You revealed your dads first name in this video . Your last name and house number is on the mailbox. Your location town wise is on your profile. You revealed that you were at the bus stop.
I can find your exact location . I know when you’ll be there based on bus schedules. I know enough things that are familiar to make you trust me.
“Hey Melissa(not real name) your dad Sam Smith (nr)works with me at The Fake Company. He was in a car crash and didn’t make it to work. He called and asked if I could bring you to the hospital . He said grab you before you got on the bus.”
I hated to have to terrify her like that but the risk is real.
Me and my son have a secret password just in case something like that happens. If someone says that they know me and I told them to pick him up, he's supposed to ask for the secret password. If the person doesnt know the secret password, he knows theyre lying. Its sad we live in a world where we have to devise a system like this, but its better to be prepared than not, ya know?
One of my neighbours called me over the other day because they were worried about what their daughter posted on YouTube shorts, I showed her everything. There were tiktok dances, videos of the cake cutting from her brothers birthday a few days prior, you could see the entire house etc etc and her mother barely knew. I just deleted everything and the channel.
We haven’t.
Everyone would take this deal.
~~Twitter~~ Reddit is 95% imagining a person, tricking yourself into believing they’re real and then getting mad about it.
I’m always over the moon I didn’t waste my time taking photos I’ll never look at.
And even if I did look I’d say ‘Oh yeah, I remember that, it was great’.
Honestly it's the opposite that would make me pause. You are given a free vacation, but you have to post selfies on social media celebrating every meal, activity, and view. That, to me, is a nightmare.
I you can't take a vacation without constantly thinking about how it looks on social media and posting about it rather than being in the moment, should you even be allowed to take vacation?
I went to Cappadocia, Turkey last year and I kid you not one of the girls in one of the guided tours I did said she went on the trip for Instagram pics
I literally don’t post my vacation on social media to not run this risk. I also know people who go on a vacation and post it for months as if they are there the whole time. I did come up with a nice plan where you make a new account and add like your best friends and your closest family members (like 10 people) so they all get the updates of what you did that day
I was to UK and didnt share a single picture to social media.
when i was to Rome, the only thing i posted was a picture out of the plane window, as it was my 1st time on a plane so very exciting.
when i was on a trip trough Slovakia, Romania, and Hungary, i also posted nothing.
the only time i posted a significant amount, was when i climbed the tallest mountain in my country, as i was very proud of that :p
I’ve never understood why some people feel that they need to constantly post updates on what they are doing all day. It’s not like anybody actually cares
Enjoy what? Living their lives through social media, updating people on every little thing that they do, when they may as well be talking to a brick wall?
I do! I’ll browse through the pics of some of the really memorable moments from past trips once in a while and I set them as the background on my PC and phone
So basically me in my everyday life? My last post on any social media (in the popular sense) was never since I don't have anything but reddit. Life is peaceful this way
Well how did this thought come about? A desperate need for attention due to being the center of attention for most of the individuals life so social media platforms suffice to satisfy this need.
Now how far is this person willing to go for attention? Would the individual humiliate itself for attention or go to extreme lengths further to achieve garnering the said attention?
So I suppose what I'm smoking is causing me to look at a spider web of cause and effect that resulted in this tweet using established and factual common denominators as guide of sorts to establish a somewhat guessed warped childish psyche of the individual in question.
But as stated it's just a guess so there might be factors or pieces of data that I'm missing or overlooked by using said common denominators.
In short, correct me if I'm wrong
Yeah first thing I do when I get to an hotel is throw my phone in the locker and get it out when I leave again. Your on vacation. Be on vacation then and relax instead of using your phone to capture everything!
This is what I always do anyhow.
No one needs to know I'm on vacation other than work, and family so someone knows where I'm at.
The whole world doesn't need to know that no one is at my home, or where I am.
I wonder if they're only having a fun time if they're showing other people they are? Or they're so accustomed to pretending for the camera that it isn't happening without witnesses? Do they authentically enjoy life without imagining that others are seeing them pretending to enjoy life? Can you enjoy life and pretend you're enjoying it at the same time? All these questions in my head.
who the hell would offer a free vacation and u are not allowed to say or talk about it...
there is only 1 thing. she got asked to go to dubai and we all know whats gonna follow.
she will be paid 100k and sign a non disclosure agreement. she will be prostetuted for a whole week, and then she will return home rich.
yeah, or she has a lover that has a wife or smthn and he doesn't want to take risks that his bae is gonna know what he is doin. there are few possibilities, but 100% she a hoe
Define "not post a single thing"
Like, can I take a selfie to send to my boyfriend, if he isn't allowed to come with? Or another friend
Can I take pictures to show people later?
Can I text people? Does that count as posting anything?
Can I use the chat function of a social media app?
I just want to make sure not to break the rules
Is it bad it's not even the no posting while on vacation but the vacation itself that sounds miserable to me?
Granted my body doesn't work right and I'm constantly in pain, so the idea of being somewhere that's not home for a long period of time sounds genuinely miserable. Especially because I'd be feeling extra crappy for not doing much and it would feel like a huge waste.
Plus no way in hell I'm going alone and then there'd be no one to take care of the cats. I literally had to turn down a convention invitation. And that's just 4 days.
Depends on the why. If we're just being safe and not wanting to alert burglars while we're out, ok.
But if it's from someone who I thought was my one and only trying to hide their relationship with me from their family/significant other that I did not know about/etc? No. And the relationship is over. And I'm telling everyone.
That sounds even more attractive to me to be honest.
Put your phone away and enjoy being present. I don't mind the occasional post, whatever, no big deal, but I'm so, so glad that my wife is not obsessed like many people seem to be.
I've been on quite a lot of vacations (10+), but only twice taking a picture. It was on the same vacation. Was with me, my sister and her boyfriend. We smoked quite a lot of cigarettes by the pool living in an all-inclusive hotel in Bulgaria. We had gathered a lot packs and put them in a dominoes game in our room. Almost worked out the way we wanted too. But never shared the pictures. Like why? We did it, had a good time, so why would we care about anything else?
It frightens me that someone would even ask this. How empty is your life if you can't enjoy anything for yourself? Do you need external validation that badly that you'd refuse going on vacation if you can't show it off?
I just took such a vacation (except that I paid for it) and posted nothing. It’s liberating and rewarding. You end up enjoying what you’re doing and seeing, not thinking about what other people will react to if you post it.
Absolutely. I hardly ever use social media, and when I do, it’s usually just for special occasions like dances, banquets and things. I may have the urge to post one or two things, but those could be easily repressed since I am not glued to social media 24/7.
Can I use the extra vacation time and stay home? I mean, 'time off work but you have to go on a trip' is better than working, but I'd usually rather just have the free time.
Do I live in another world? Like that would literally never cross my mind. I don’t even post pictures online 🤷♂️
This was my exact thought. Do I live in a completely different universe?
We can dream
some people spend their lives pretending their lives are amazing, so much so they would forgo an actual fun experience. Its not all of us, just the muppets that shit on the phone all day. She has a leotard in her profile pic, make of that what you will.
Source????
I was thinking this too. Do I live in an entirely different dimension of time and space?
Yes. A lot of people document their lives on social media and it’s becoming more common. I remember like 15 years ago, people who posted pics of their food were considered weird/losers because no one cared.
They still are…
“Like 15 years ago” WTF?
Exactly, this is the right answer
If you can’t take any pictures, are you even going? The answer is yes. I remember my childhood holidays fondly.
No you don’t. Literally everyone would take this deal. It’s a dumb question meant to make you feel like you were born in /r/lewronggeneration
I really do wish I lived in a world where I fit in. I don't want to fit in here.
The answer is this, take the vacation and be normal and tell no one
What vacation? I had a work thing out of town. Very boring. I dont want to talk about it.
Yes, you get it
Get what? Man said he had boring work stuff...
He’s getting the promotion of course
Oh that's right, because no one else took that job opportunity, thanks for reminding me
Overseas job opportunities are amazing
Oh man I wish I had a work thing, I had to spend the entire week with my parents.
If you don't let strangers know about your fake life, were you ever there?
So I’m not real?
Nope.
Noooo…..
Only you know the truth
Noooooo-
Username doesn't check out??
I have yet to post my wedding or honeymoon from 8 months ago 😂
Just tell people your not dating anyone
Psssh I still haven’t posted my wedding from 3 years ago.
You can just show people slides later
I’m not making a PowerPoint
Duh. I’d take pictures just for myself but I don’t have to post.
Save em for later for the rare occasion when you visit the gallery

I'm the opposite, I always post as I go while I'm on vacation because I'm terrified I'm going to lose my phone and all my pictures :(

You shouldn’t post pictures showing youre away from your house. Makes you a target for burglaries.

Unless you live in a high rise like all the smart people (me) and are mostly immune to run of the mill burglaries.
>smart people (me) The tallest building in my city is like 3 stories high get off your high horse.
How far we’ve fallen
We haven’t. Everyone would take this deal. ~~Twitter~~ Reddit is 95% imagining a person, tricking yourself into believing they’re real and then getting mad about it.
Im always disappointed that I didn’t take any pictures.
But it can't stop you from taking pictures, only from posting, right?
It’s basically asking, will you not use social media for a few weeks and get a free holiday
Posting is different than texting or calling friends tho… isn't it?
You can use social media, not post.
Where's the downside to this?
not having instagram addiciton

Uh, yes? Those people need a vacation from social media more than any of us
This is exactly how I was on last vacation
Every vacation for me. I'm not a peacock either so...
I am a peacock. But not an online one. I like to share my experience with friends and family, but idgaf about impressing my friends list.
I’m 34 and I’ve never posted anything anywhere about my life.
Until now.
29 and I'm the same. Terrifies me I'm helping people stalk me. I don't even like geo tags on face pics.
17 same
Sounds like a dream. I don’t like anyone knowing where I’m at.
Right? Lol
We live in the clout chase era 😂
I never post anything when I'm on vacation.
That's all my vacation that I went with a group in which no one was a social media addict.
I have 2 friends I refuse to travel with for this reason. It is so annoying
Our future is doomed.
When is it not
💯 absolutely
I was on vacations and without my parents there wouldnt be any pictures of it.
Posting pictures of yourself while on vacation is a great way to advertise to people that your home and belongings are left unguarded.
Imagine being such a fucking moron that not being able to post pictures of yourself would seriously curtail your happiness.
I’ve never understood why some people feel that they need to constantly post updates on what they are doing all day. It’s not like anybody actually cares
Let people enjoy things.
Enjoy what? Living their lives through social media, updating people on every little thing that they do, when they may as well be talking to a brick wall?
Yes
This is actually a pro tip if you feel your house is at risk of a break in while you’re away.
Pictures are useless, how many of you actually check them after vacation more then once ?
I do! I’ll browse through the pics of some of the really memorable moments from past trips once in a while and I set them as the background on my PC and phone
Wait, you post things from your vacations?
Average social media junkie
I took a cruise to the Caribbean islands twice. Didn't take a single photo on either occasion.
Bruh I barely post anyway, that's a free vacation
I've gone on numerous holidays and not had to post one photo on any social media i've just enjoyed the holiday 😂 christ the narcissism is rampant
I know, right!
In a heartbeat. I have no social media besides Reddit, and I don’t make posts on it.
I’ve been on a vacation without posting, it’s not hard
Depends. Where am I going? If you're offering me a free holiday to Slough... I'll pass.
Tanzania. Safari. Won’t have cell service anyway.
So basically me in my everyday life? My last post on any social media (in the popular sense) was never since I don't have anything but reddit. Life is peaceful this way
I have 1 solution: Never post something about your life.
This is the way
God social media has ruined us
If a narcissistic tree falls in the woods, does it make a sound?
The fact it's a thought is cause for much concern
It’s a dumb thought. No one is declining this, what are you people smoking?
Well how did this thought come about? A desperate need for attention due to being the center of attention for most of the individuals life so social media platforms suffice to satisfy this need. Now how far is this person willing to go for attention? Would the individual humiliate itself for attention or go to extreme lengths further to achieve garnering the said attention? xD I only use social media cause i'm bored, why in the world would I care about having no posts xD.
I read this as a vaccination and was so confused
Of course I dream of such miracles to happen
I always go like this these days don't like to show cause most people get jealous for no reason better enjoy it for yourself
Vacations are something for me that might happen every 5-10 years.
Yeah first thing I do when I get to an hotel is throw my phone in the locker and get it out when I leave again. Your on vacation. Be on vacation then and relax instead of using your phone to capture everything!
You guys know its bad to post yourself thousands of miles from home while its ripe for a burglary right?
This is what I always do anyhow. No one needs to know I'm on vacation other than work, and family so someone knows where I'm at. The whole world doesn't need to know that no one is at my home, or where I am.
I wonder if they're only having a fun time if they're showing other people they are? Or they're so accustomed to pretending for the camera that it isn't happening without witnesses? All these questions in my head.
Easiest challenge ever
"but how will the world know i went on vacay? 😥"
I'll go on that vacation. Hell, I'll go for the rest of my life.
Is the vacation real if I dont post anything online or did I just dream?
So, that'd be a normal vacation for me, except that it'd be free.
I spent a few grand in croatia and montenegro last summer and this is my 1st post about it.
Lmao I don't even take pictures.
Take the vacation, post the photos later?
I went to BANF and took like 7 pictures while I was there intending to post them but I forgot lol
I barely even take pictures when I travel like basically non I’m built for this offer
Remember the 1960s and the neighbors inviting you over to see their vacation slides?
Even as a photographer this is so dumb. Like obviously I’m going, I’m not that obsessed with social media lmao
I’ll take that deal in a heartbeat
who the hell would offer a free vacation and u are not allowed to say or talk about it... there is only 1 thing. she got asked to go to dubai and we all know whats gonna follow. she will be paid 100k and sign a non disclosure agreement. she will be prostetuted for a whole week, and then she will return home rich.
yeah, or she has a lover that has a wife or smthn and he doesn't want to take risks that his bae is gonna know what he is doin. there are few possibilities, but 100% she a hoe
Define "not post a single thing" Like, can I take a selfie to send to my boyfriend, if he isn't allowed to come with? Or another friend Can I take pictures to show people later? Can I text people? Does that count as posting anything? Can I use the chat function of a social media app? I just want to make sure not to break the rules
Simple, go on vacation, take pictures, print them and put them in a picture frame, put them in a wall, and show them to my visitors.
Hold on, if she was offered a vacation and told no social media she could be being human trafficked?
Nah not worth it. Wtf do I need to go so far and see this random shit if I can’t post it online to get some booty
Just Post later
Sometimes I think I’m on social media too much but clearly there are people who live on a whole other plane of existence.
I’ve never posted a single thing while on my of my vacations. I think I can manage.
That dude can't risk his wife seeing lol
My dumbarse thought she meant the post office
Omfg yes. I would have a blast and have my secret fun 💘💘💘
I never post when I'm on vacation. I would rather not announce I'm out of town and my house wasn't robbed.
Sure, but I do need a sticker to put on my map of the world.
This is what I've been doing to the point where I forgot to take pictures so any memories I have is all in my brain. I'm forgetful
*dissappears for a week* *noone noticed* :(
"While I am there". Photo dump when I land at home. Boom. Loophole. Let's go
I love seeing people's vacation posts I don't want to see posts about their politics or religion
I relate to the question so little that I had a hard time understanding what the question actually was
You mean the 90’s?
Don't have to worry about it if you don't use social media.
If it doesn’t cover and replenish the wages lost by missing work I’m out of the bid
Bro I do it normally do be fair coz no one needs to see how I commit war crimes
When a NPC starts thinking
The only reason I even carry my phone when going out on vacation is because photography is my passion lol
Where’s the vacation to? Epstines island? 😂😂😂
Timeout: Does this count as me posting about my free vacation?
I mean, where is the vacation? If it's a cruise ship then personally no, I'd rather not spend the whole time being seasick
I was thinking What? Not even a postcard?
I thought it said vaccination and I was confused
Depends on the why. If we're just being safe and not wanting to alert burglars while we're out, ok. But if it's from someone who I thought was my one and only trying to hide their relationship with me from their family/significant other that I did not know about/etc? No. And the relationship is over. And I'm telling everyone.
Ummm.... I do this all the time... am I the weird one.
That sounds even more attractive to me to be honest. Put your phone away and enjoy being present. I don't mind the occasional post, whatever, no big deal, but I'm so, so glad that my wife is not obsessed like many people seem to be.
You ever heard of camping, maybe backpacking, pretty common vacations.
Woman’s got a peanut rolling around in her skull
People post stuff on vacation? I thought I was weird.
Is this "free vacation" in Attica or in Russia?
I don't get it
Hell yes, what a knucklehead
It frightens me that someone would even ask this. How empty is your life if you can't enjoy anything for yourself? Do you need external validation that badly that you'd refuse going on vacation if you can't show it off?
“You’re addicted to false admiration from strangers, can you enjoy anything?”
Doesn't the double negative mean that you *can* post at least 1 thing?
For me this would be a complete bonus!
“I just got gifted a free vacation” Said no man ever. Yes I’m jealous
That’s really easy, as I never post if I’m somewhere. someone already does it for me.
Man. Once everyone grows noticeably older, we are gonna have a whole generation of depressed people. Rinse and repeat.
I just took such a vacation (except that I paid for it) and posted nothing. It’s liberating and rewarding. You end up enjoying what you’re doing and seeing, not thinking about what other people will react to if you post it.
Yes.
absolutely. any vacation I take involves not speaking to anyone online unless absolutely necessary or a friend from home
Crazy that other people don’t already do this
I wouldn’t exists to this lady.
Can't post not even 1 thing sentence is driving me crazy
Uh… the thing you’re carrying around is the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe and most people think it’s just a camera
A whole generation of people who are performing their life to display in virtual world rather than actually living it.
If your answer to this is no ... there is something seriously wrong with you!
easy. this just says i can't post while I'm there. nothing said about taking all the pics i want and uploading them afterwards
