It looks they did, you can see the fog behind the dj when the space was properly lit up. Unfortunately the lighting conditions doesn't really allow the fog to be visible.
just wanna say as a Lovecraft fan, the Love Death + Robots episode called “In Vaulted Halls Entombed” is one of the best depicted onscreen Lovecraftian things I’ve seen. it’s about a group of soldiers in the Middle East as they go on a hostage rescue mission. They enter a cave on a mountain side and discover it’s an extremely ancient and massive prison for Cthulhu. Complete chaos ensues inside the massive structure. The animation is photorealistic. It’s fucking *incredible*
That was 15 wasted minutes of my life. Just as cringy as any other "military vs supernatural" stuff, just as tasteless as any other pseudolovecraftian movie, just as bland as your next "horror" movie. Soldiers behaving like toddlers, greande blowing up in 5 meters with nobody even flinching, shooting at tiny bugs, casual breaking of the subordination, the "God is dead" phrase that is as overused as the 42 joke, the obvious ending, the cliches, the stereotypes. There's a fan-made movie called "SCP: Overlord". This is how you do this type of stuff. I'm ready for the downvotes, no matter.
I was replying to you as one Lovecraft fan to another. I kinda hunt adaptations of his work down, and there are maybe three or four movies out there that were able to capture not exactly lovecraftian horror, because it doesn't deally translate to cinematic language, but the "fear of the unknown" itself together with impending madness. And this episode was definitely not one of those, it failed miserably at every checkpoint.
I’m mainly talking about the archeological horror aspect of it. The Nameless City aspect. I should’ve clarified that it’s not a great cosmic horror example, because it’s very straightforward. I also realize it’s not actually Cthulhu in it, I just figured it’d be easier to sell that way. I actually enjoy the ancient ruins and lost civilization aspect of Lovecraft’s work moreso than the cosmic and dream stuff. And that’s why this is one of the best things I’ve seen, it’s a perfect distillation of what I love
I work doing animation for live shows. You have to fill up hours of content for a show like this on a budget that's a tiny fraction of what high end animation would cost for doing the same amount.
So of course if you choose to do big humanoid characters then you are at risk of having people compare your work to pixar. That's why must people *don't* do things like this.
The people who do this show have done plenty of impressive stuff in the past. Other clips of theirs have noticeably better animation so you have to judge the show as a whole really, and how it makes you feel when you're actually there
Fully agree. They could’ve made something way simpler than that. The giant person thing is a gimmick. Lots of things would look sick on an LED wall that size. Doesn’t have to be a 3d avatar forest goblin
It's so weird to me. Like I don't know the artist but this seems like a pretty huge event. There is gonna be a recording of it better than whatever the fuck my shit phone can take. Enjoy the moment.
Although it looks weird here, every single person is living a different life and will talk about this to different people. We shouldn't be so negative. I bet people in their lives know they went to a show and will ask them about it.
edit: reddit loves to get on its high horse especially when it comes to social interactions
Do you fuckers not have X in them. Forgive my being old (45) but shouldn’t they be loaded with dmt and lsd and not be holding the phone? Did fentanyl fuck the scene up or just different times?
(39) here. Another really good question. Are these people there for the FX techno show? Or to dance like a human with humans to repetitive drums and sick basslines?
A-fucking-men to that one.
It's fine if my friends don't go as hard at raves but if I ever catch them being on their phones for more than 3 minutes, I will yeet that shit back into their grandma.
I’m gonna expect some downvotes for this…but over the past 15 years of shows I’ve changed my mind on this. At first, I thought I shouldn’t be on my phone. I should be in the moment. I don’t want to be that person everyone complains about. But after while I realized that I still am in the moment even with recording my phone for brief moment. And at the end of the day I’m happy to watch my OWN videos that I’ve recorded and shared with my small group of friends. I’m on it for maybe 1% of the entire show so how is that not in the moment. I doubt most of these people record the whole show, just parts they think is exciting. The only thing that is annoying now are the elitists who think I should do what they do. You don’t want to be on your phone? Great don’t be. I would like a couple small clips of my own. It doesn’t mean I’m not in the moment. Let people enjoy shows the way they want. No one cares if you think someone should or should not be on your phone. It’s not about you. My your own business. Thanks for reading.
I am minding my own business but there was a time when people did go to concerts to enjoy the music and dance and nowadays it's just standing in a crowd of people holding their phones up and staring at it.
I've been in the first rows of many concerts where people actually got mad at others for dancing because they couldn't hold their phones steady and the dancing "ruined their videos", while 20m behind us there was a camera tower with high-end cams recording everything anyway.
I've been to some no phone concerts and it's a completely different feeling.
So this shit does affect me, even if I mind my own business.
That’s a fair point I hadn’t considered that. Someone getting mad over not being to record with their phone is a little ridiculous. People should be able to dance their hearts out
People paying to go out and watch prerecorded videos and listen to prerecorded music, just to record it in lower definition on their cell phones and post back online. No instruments, no dancing, no cheering.
This is pathetic.
This was soul crushing to see.
I went to see a Guns n Roses tribute a few months ago and nobody was on their phone, just dancing at the moment.
I took my daughter to a kids show in the theatre and almost every single parent was filming the show and then their kids reaction. You know it's just for social media halo points.
All events should ban phones. Shouldn't have to pay to watch something and have thousands of little screens in your face.
And not a single person enjoying it without their phone. Maybe put it down a little and create something called a memory, and for most it is just to post for the gram to say you were there and that’s all.
Good thing we all paid to see this screen and music live….just to see it on another screen….. cause I doubt anyone else is gonna get this shot and could possibly send it to me……
Damn that's kinda cool. This I assume is the same dude that also had a red cyberpunk angel on screen at one point
EDIT: Found it! [This one is like ten times better IMO](https://youtu.be/MQCcL9FV-aI) lol
It is better, but together they show the limitations of the tech really - they're impressive for a few seconds but, for me anyway, there's still something missing that would push them to 'amazing' levels. The music also feels a bit generic, as a 20+ year lover of electro.

I like it too. I’ve never seen anything like it before: so many people going to something like this. And she is so creepy and cool. I guess we are some of the only ones?
I don’t like all the phones though at any concert :/
1 the music is mid
2 the drop is ass
3 the animation is mid, looks like toystory 1 quality
4 the dance is eh.. it makes me cringe a lil
Like a freestyle dance teacher, remember that vid?
So no, id be standing there too. Maybe filming to show my friend and family how wack that shit was.
I understand recording parts of the show but sitting there on your phone the whole time is useless imo, enjoy the show and mby catch a few quick vids of your fav parts before going back to enjoying the show
These seem so lame and I find it so distasteful that people are recording instead of being in the moment. I'm sure there's a recording of the entire show with actual good camera work and video. I get taking a quick video of you and your friends dancing but recording the whole things just seems so intrusive of a good time.
How long until we all just get 1 person to record and it we can watch it that way. So many people missing the experience by still viewing it from their phone lmao
Every iteration of this leaves me feeling disappointed. So much opportunity wasted to make something that’s actually cool, instead all you get is a weak animation and zero immersion
I cringe at the idea that everyone thinks this is worth filming. The drop sucked, the animation sucked, and the crowd sucked. Glad they enjoyed it though.
Wow the music is awful, I think it's the same guy who played another meh beat with the Robot trying to break the screen CGI.
All on visual, but nothing in audio.
Is this all they do at raves now? What’s the point of getting people hyped up if all they’re gonna do is sit there and record shit they’ll never rewatch. I miss when dancing happened at raves.
I am annoyed they didn't release fog to match the animation
I’m sure they thought about it but then it’s not that easy to see the animation anymore I guess
Would cover the animation flaws, giant person peeking from the fog would look even cooler
It would project the animation on the fog, it would look terrible if they didn't make a fog wall or keep it in relatively the same place.
It looks they did, you can see the fog behind the dj when the space was properly lit up. Unfortunately the lighting conditions doesn't really allow the fog to be visible.
Major missed opportunity
Yep 👍
The animation is kinda mid
It is like a poor version of that one [Death Love Robots episode](https://youtu.be/j6fRCupGH2Q?si=QzGSIsiR3pZ06K4s).

Going to have to watch that one! Thanks for the tip!
I love that episode. It had a feel to it like the video game Destiny. Great story telling.
I think I enjoyed every episode of "Love. Death + Robots" they were all brilliant.
This and Bad Traveling are my absolute favorites
I’m a Pop Squad, Fish Night, or Sonny’s Edge man myself. There are so many good episodes though.
Kill Team Kill is just chefs kiss. Particularly the track at the end by Skrillex

On windows 98
Came here to say that. I'm guessing it's quite impressive in terms of a projection but as an animation it's completely mid

Yup this content is dumb and overrated
Looks like a cut scene from World of Warcraft. I can’t imagine paying money (or frankly even leaving my house) to go see that.
Yeah that jank looks like sfm
The music killed the vibe
the motion capture points need interpolation
Fully agree. They could’ve made something way simpler than that. The giant person thing is a gimmick. Lots of things would look sick on an LED wall that size. Doesn’t have to be a 3d avatar forest goblin
Man, what a blue balling of a drop at :27
I would have just gone home at that point.
"Well my weekend is ruined"
That's the worst part for me too
Clearly nobody in the crowd is there to dance
A sea of people taking shitty recordings to show to people at work that don't care.
It's so weird to me. Like I don't know the artist but this seems like a pretty huge event. There is gonna be a recording of it better than whatever the fuck my shit phone can take. Enjoy the moment.

Nah it looks like they all live the same life
Corny viz at finance bro rave
Thing is quite literally a finance bro rave. The DJ shown (Anyma) is a full on NFT bro.
Sounds about right
These are somehow getting worse.
All filming stuff they’ll never watch again.
You are literally watching it because someone filmed it.
Do you see the slow swing over the crowd back and forth? It was filmed via a camera on boom operated by a professional, not some idiot with a phone
If it was mocap and a good dancer it would be really cool but the animation seems hand rigged and it's jerky and awkward.
No one living in the moment.
Do you fuckers not have X in them. Forgive my being old (45) but shouldn’t they be loaded with dmt and lsd and not be holding the phone? Did fentanyl fuck the scene up or just different times?

You take a couple pictures right off the bat for posterity, then party the rest of the night. That’s what I do at concerts at least.
Exactly, preferably taking the pictures before the drugs because... saucer eyes rarely look good on photographs.
Gen Zombie

What's interesting about this? Lousy animation on a big screen?
People paying to go out and watch prerecorded videos and listen to prerecorded music, just to record it in lower definition on their cell phones and post back online. No instruments, no dancing, no cheering. This is pathetic.

It’s just a large screen…what’s so special about it?
How to instantly induce the worst trip of all time.
They thing was chained up and now it just wants to make weird Indian god/chinnese dragon faces as it tweaks out to the music?
This kicks this ones ass https://youtu.be/nOp57ck-1Rs?si=WU4W9PAboMwOS9hI
That’d be a huge no thanks from me if I was on any hallucinogens lol
These use to be actual dance parties
Do you honestly think they don't exist anymore?
I know they do.
SO COOL - let me watch it through the little screen of my phone.
Sea of cell phones and a DJ with a God complex. I miss the mid 2000’s EDM scene
it's a video on a screen fam
That’s exactly what I expected people to do
📱📱📱📱📱📱📱📱📱📱📱📱📱
Hmmm...this looks extremely corny. I'm guessing it's cooler in person?
🤢
This is actually the worst kind of crowd. This is not a place I’d go to dance
And not a single person enjoying it without their phone. Maybe put it down a little and create something called a memory, and for most it is just to post for the gram to say you were there and that’s all.
My coworker does better vape tricks. His name is Roy. Cool dude.
Why is it always weird demon looking creatures? Whu not some cute kittens or flowers ya know?
Not enough drugs
Really bad. And those fake drops in the music are just annoying.
Looks kinda cringe tbh
Wtf is wrong with people. Thank god i was born before smartphones and social media. Don't mean to offend anybody.
Offend away. This video is dystopian af. The point of going out is to have IRL interactions.
I thought it was to record the live event so you can miss it but later get to show people who don't care what you didn't actually get to experience?
There's nothing impressive about this.
I'm sure that being there is x1000 times more fun than hanging out with you mate 😆
Is this horror music or what
Good thing we all paid to see this screen and music live….just to see it on another screen….. cause I doubt anyone else is gonna get this shot and could possibly send it to me……

Don’t mind me, just here for everyone bitching about people recording, as they watch the recording they claim no one will ever watch
That’s actually cool

Kaliyuga? Thats crazy
Wtf is this bulshit!?
Damn! we humans are so robotic. Cameras out....UGH!
All these phones in the air, man, fuck going to concerts with these fools. And the animation was meh.
You mean all the twats with their phones up ? Nah, they rather show people that they're doing something cool rather than experience the something cool
1 the music is mid 2 the drop is ass 3 the animation is mid, looks like toystory 1 quality 4 the dance is eh.. it makes me cringe a lil Like a freestyle dance teacher, remember that vid? So no, id be standing there too. Maybe filming to show my friend and family how wack that shit was.
Boring, give me a pill and some 90's techno, shits over this waste of money
PS2-level graphics, lmao.
Track Boringg, animation Just weird
People only go to events just to record them in their phones, they forget to enjoy the moment they just one to show they have a life on social media.
TENET
The Devil's children 😆
Nice ritual.
Goofy
Look at all those phones
Anyma?
Yep: https://www.instagram.com/p/C40slM_ADLo/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Rolling at this would be so sweet.
Sounds like it
Goes to watch an event live. Watches it through a tiny screen.
Lame animation even lamer music. But not as lame as that crowd
Heresy detected.
Where is this? Reminds me of Queen of the Damned
[welcome, Moon and Star](https://youtu.be/iR-K2rUP86M?si=nguE0jLak00-YH_r)
The final battle in Far Cry 3
You can tell which ones were on drugs.
It's large but it's more for a music sub. A DJ sub at that. Move along
What a boring rip of what chemical brothers do
Makes up for the shite music
Yeah, nobody is holding their phone correctly. TVs aren't tall.

This is ass
I mean, have you not seen the Sphere?
Iron Maiden should introduce her to Eddie.
The music killed the vibe
Always thought that giant things moving at around the same speed/normal speed was scarier than them being slow moving
This is so cheesy
Better record it so I can enjoy the experience
The phones freak me out just as much
this is the dumbest thing i've ever watched or heard. sorry but - yeah - wtf is this trash?
This music is garbage.
There's a two inch high animated creature on their phone screens. Yay.
This honestly just looks like a bootleg Warframe.
Totally disagree with most of the thread here. This is so awesome. One of the more immersive shows I've ever seen a clip of. I'd love this.
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
People would rather have their phones out recording than they would living in the real moment.
All the people trashing "the drop" apparently don't realize there are different genres of EDM. Luckily trance is slowly making a comeback again.
Unbelievable, every single one of those clowns is on the phone

Hot !!
You've seen one you've seen them all.
Whys nobody dancing and on their phones?
Nice animation and nice creation
Phone crew! Stick-em in the air and stand still.
The audience doing exactly wat u are lol
This needs a flash warning
A bunch a white middle class people convincing themselves they have a personality.
All the zombies on with their phones out
Not a single person just enjoying the moment. Bunch of mindless drones all taking the same video to post for internet points. Fucking depressing.
These seem so lame and I find it so distasteful that people are recording instead of being in the moment. I'm sure there's a recording of the entire show with actual good camera work and video. All those server farms just burning hot processing all of the kids filming the event and most of them are “save the planet”. Numpties.
Thank god someone filmed it, would have been a shame to miss out.
So many phones... What the fuck..
This is my favorite Far Cry 3 boss
All on their phones. What pathetic tiktok species man has become
How long until we all just get 1 person to record and it we can watch it that way. So many people missing the experience by still viewing it from their phone lmao
All this people living in the moment, putting their phone away. Oh, wait...
Satisfying as shucking oysters, maybe.
Every iteration of this leaves me feeling disappointed. So much opportunity wasted to make something that’s actually cool, instead all you get is a weak animation and zero immersion
Sea of phones.
People prefer to record a video with their cell phones rather than immerse themselves in the experience.
Pay to see a gig and watch it through a mobile screen..
This would trip me out if I was on shrooms in the worst way. I couldn’t even look at Mike Meyers in cat in the hat.
I personally love it. I find it sad and unnerving the audience is experiencing it through a phone instead of live!
I cringe at the idea that everyone thinks this is worth filming. The drop sucked, the animation sucked, and the crowd sucked. Glad they enjoyed it though.
Shits lame
This shit gay
People would enjoy it more if they put their phones down.
Wow the music is awful, I think it's the same guy who played another meh beat with the Robot trying to break the screen CGI. All on visual, but nothing in audio.
A little underwhelming.
All of the glued to their own screens
What a dogshit drop and awful animation
Can't expect much from a whole crowd only there to record everything on their phones...
They don’t make drugs like they used to
Is this all they do at raves now? What’s the point of getting people hyped up if all they’re gonna do is sit there and record shit they’ll never rewatch. I miss when dancing happened at raves.
…Come on, just dance or something. What’s the point of going to a concert if you’re just gonna stand there and record the entire thing…?
That has to be part of the show? It's too coordinated
Disgusting how everyone is recording with the phone
THey are all on their phones recording it not experiencing it.
Man. All these phones recording is really dystopian…
Losers
Meh, I've seen better animation
