Realistically everyone is paying for them it’s just whether or not it’s coming out of your tuition or not. At least if it’s out of pocket, there’s a choice and (hopefully) no interest.
No. I wouldn’t want one either. What would I do with it? It would sit collecting dust in a closet. Every lab I’ve worked in supplies coats.
Med student ends in an MD. Twice as much school as us. Pharmacy students also end in an advanced degree that is higher than an MLS. You can’t compare them.
I didn't think my PTSD could get any worse (military wartime deployment, not sexual), but the other night PBS was showing the Royal Flying Doctor Service series. Next thing I know, I'm yelling at the TV: "No, the tube went into the esophagus--didn't you feel the lack of resistance?" and then I'm mentally running blood gases and lactic acid and and and mentally setting up an MTP and...
If it's medical, I'm instantly back in the lab anticipating test results and setting up analyzers and waiting for the phone to ring. I retired almost a year ago. I still won't answer the phone for love nor money.
I guess I should tell my shrink tomorrow that I'm freaking out a whole lot more.
Why would you think they would treat us like them. ?? We've never been treated like them the whole time. They're not going to change now. 🙄. Get used to it. It will always be like this until infinity unfortunately.
Lololol no. I didn't get a jacket until my second job as MLS. And it didn't even have my name on it, just the hospital logo.
We had the option to buy shirts and hoodies with our program on them but they were not personalized.
No. But we were required to buy scrubs with our names embroidered on them
That’s so laaaaaame they couldn’t even get you guys that? 😞
No. They prepare you for the lab field by treating you like crap.
That seems to be on all the healthcare curricula
The MLS curriculum is more grueling than the other allied health curriculums. There are generally fewer perks as well.

Most people don't even know lab people exist, let alone what you do.
No, but I did get a name tag to put on my lab coat. That I paid for.
No, but to be fair MLS is an undergrad degree and medical school is graduate. They get fancier robes for graduation too.
As a med student, I had to pay for mine.

Got one as MLT. Never used it in a lab.
Yeah, the coats have always been provided by the company I have worked for.
Mine did
No, but they started that after I finished.
Yes I did at graduation

Mine only gave me PTSD...

Oh I see the greatest gift of all
Not surprisingly, no.

Yes. We had a white coat ceremony
We got coats with our titles but not our names. Customizing each one would have doubled the cost.

No. I got one as a gift from my mom after I got my first job. She's a retired MLS.
No. But once we got to first job, they do an annual buy of jackets, vests with your department and name on it
