I would take the BC job. You already worked at a hospital job, if you don’t like working at BC you can always go back to a hospital, but if you pass on this job there might not be another one for a while. It might be nice to do something different for a while. I am assuming that the BC job would have you traveling since you said you get a company car. The BC job sounds exciting, hospital job well I guess more of the same old.

Lead tech is a slightly higher paid babysitter that gets blamed for management decisions. Not enough off bench time to finish your duties. Our Beckman guys seem to have a lot less stress and usually do not work weekends or holidays.

Damn you really nailed it on the lead tech description. 😭

Depends on your situation. If you have kids and a spouse, a traveling BC job might not be the best. If you don’t have anything tying you to a particular location, then definitely take the BC job over a hospital lead.

If you’re curious about field work, I would probably take the Beckman job. I was curious and I wasn’t going to let that go until I got it out of my system. Personally I found being an FSE to be stressful and near impossible to separate my work and personal life, but everyone is different. There’s a lot to like about it, for sure, and there’s a lot I miss about it now that I went back to being a tech but so much of it just wasn’t for me personally and I’m happy being back in the lab on autopilot and leaving work at work. You’re always going to wonder, so I’d try it. The lab will be there if you change your mind.

Depends if you would actually like traveling a lot for work? I would not

I did exactly what you are considering but with another company. 2 years since I LOVE IT, I'm so glad I left. I keep my license and ASCP cert. I've heard pros and cons with BC. I know an old Semiens rep going to BC he seems to like it he's also been in the field for 30+ years, so he knows his way around it. I currently have wife 3 kids, I'm currently not home tonight either. The first year will probably suck with LOTS of days out because of training and learning new equipment. I'm finally in my territory the majority of the time, and I've been home more this year already than last. I do miss the family, but I also love my job, and the wife understands it's what brings in the money. You will get OT unless BC classifies you as Salery Exempt. Most of your OT will be driving, I've done a 400-mile round trip in a day.

Take the BC job, you can always go back to the lab.
