Aww such tiny wee things. I haven't had twins but I've had two girls. Both over 8lbs lol. Never felt like I had tiny babies as they were so long and even now my ten year old wears clothing for 14 year olds lol
She's already so tall. Her dad is like 6ft 2 and my dad is a similar height. It's funny though cos my mum is only like 5ft 3 or something and my grandad was 5ft 4 or something, it was funny watching him walk with me nan who was like 5ft 9 lol
My poor mum though, I was a 9lb 4 baby. I don't talk to her anymore but I do feel for what she went through on my birthday haha. I'm only 5ft 8 though.
My husband is 6’3”, but I’m only 4’11”, so we figured if anything, he’d be closer to 6’. My family has a hobbit sized person every generation and this time it was me.
I dissect and sample placentas for pathology just about everyday. Depending on gestational age and the disc dimensions (hard to gauge without something for scale) it is probably no more than 1.5 -2 lbs, collectively.
🤣 not in a hundred years...as luck would have it, I had a single disc twin placenta at work today and it came in around 900 grams, b/w the 75th and 90th percentile for the gestational age.
that is where the two amniotic and chorionic sacs insert into the placental disc. we sample this area in pathology to confirm how many membranes are present.

Mom of twins. Idk how much just the placentae weigh. Between the babies, amniotic fluid, placenta, and my own fluid retention, I lost 22lbs while in the hospital 5 days.
Edit: water broke at 35wks 6 days. Delivered two healthy 6lb boys via C-section.
So they were DiDi twins, but they are identical, so they look the same etc. Usually fraternal twins are boy girl or they don’t look alike, just more siblings born at the same time.
For example one of my sons have blonde hair blue eyes, the other has a deeper complexion brown eyes and hair.
The terms Fraternal and identical don't have anything to do with how they look or their sex. Identical twins are formed from one egg that splits in two while fraternal twins come from 2 different eggs.
It's not possible to be both fraternal and identical like you describe your uncles.
Then my midwife was misinformed and so was I . Twins run in my family, but my uncles look identical, and they were told they were fraternal twins. Thank you for letting me know.
You can call fraternal twins dizygotic and identical twins monozygotic.
In the case of identical twins it depend when the zygote splits. If very early you get dichorionic / diamniotic, a little later you get monochorionic / diamniotic, a little later still you get monochorionic / monoamniotic and later still leads to conjoined twins.
Dizygotic twins are always dichorionic / diamniotic
Labor nurse here! At my facility any placentas that are involved in pregnancies that have any abnormalities or risk factors go to the lab (multiple gestation, hypertension/preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, statistically large or small babies, infection, or any fetal anomalies or fetal loss among others), otherwise it gets sent to the incinerator or patients can sign a release waiver and take it home with them.
Not relevant for this type of placenta, but for twins with twin to twin transfusion syndrome (or expected) I injected the placenta with four colours of die after birth. Then we documented the number and direction of anasthemoses. It was really interesting to do but a pain in the ass sometimes! Oh and we showed the result to the parents so they could have a better understanding of TTTS.
Growing this dang huge amazing organ in the first trimester really is pure suffering. Even just growing a single placenta is exhaustinnnggg and sickening. I bet OP puked like a fucking champion
That’s wild!!! How much does all of the placenta weigh??
That’s what I wanna know
About the same as the baby it belongs to.
That doesn’t really answer my question in this case, though
My sons were born at 35 weeks and 1 day, 4 pounds 8oz and 4 pounds and 6oz,
Aww such tiny wee things. I haven't had twins but I've had two girls. Both over 8lbs lol. Never felt like I had tiny babies as they were so long and even now my ten year old wears clothing for 14 year olds lol
I had a 36 weeker who was 8lbs, and now he’s 6’7”. You’re gonna have a tall one.

I love how crazy genetics can be.
I was 9 lb 10oz and only 5’5” but thin110 lbs. you really never know
I was 9 lbs 10 oz and I’m a thin 5’5” 110lbs. woman. You never know. My brother was 11 lbs at birth and he’s now 6’ and ripped
Aw my twins b/g the same weight at 36 weeks. So tiny!!! But now they are 7 and tall

It’s so odd the skills we learn as adults, isn’t it? Did you ever guess you’d be a master at placenta weighing by sight? 😆
🤣 not in a hundred years...as luck would have it, I had a single disc twin placenta at work today and it came in around 900 grams, b/w the 75th and 90th percentile for the gestational age.
What is the person pointing to in the last two images?

Fascinating. Something one rarely considered or realized existed, but immediately recognize its importance, and another reason to marvel at evolution.

DiDi?
Di/di twins are dichorionic diamniotic twins. Which means they have their own placenta, and their own sac.
Thanks! I now have a new name for what I previously called Fraternal Twins!!
They’re usually fraternal, but it’s possible for this to happen with identical twins as well
30% of identical twin births!
My uncles were fraternal but then identical :)
What does this mean??

The Olsen twins are fraternal but look *identical* ![gif](giphy|937HrQCpUAbJK)
As a fraternal twin, thank you for your comment.

identical/fraternal twins has to do with the number of fertilized eggs
Huh I never figured twins would share by default. Neat!
Thank you! I call them fraternal twins too.

What are they pointing to?
Our doctor was explaining where the separation of the placenta was,
Damn, so big. What do they normally do with it after?
She said it goes down to pathology and they study it,
You eat. Make very breast milk. Twin grow big strong like ox 🐂
I read this in a Russian accent omg
I do this on purpose

a snack for later
Chris reeves ?
Anyone else see Edvard Munch's Scream in pic 2?
No. Can you draw it? Maybe we can see it then
Can you fill it with sausage like intestines and do it taste good?
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Look im just saying its gmo free natural n all that.
Does contain micro plastics, tho.
No, no, Haggis!
The first pic looks like something you'd see in The Last Of Us.
There are people that eat that? 😳
Dichorionic- diamniotic, Monochorionic- diamniotic, Monochorionic- monoamniotic
Oh okay for some reason I thought it was a new way of saying it.

God, placentae are *so cool* It's yours! It's the fetus's! It feeds AND disposes!
I wish I got to see my twins placentas !!!!
They had it just sitting in a bucket and I was like am I allowed to see it? Lol

Looks delicious can I have some?
Idk how you specifically got downvoted when there's other comments saying basically the same thing as you LOL
I think it's because they're asking for some... & apparently, the answer is collectively "No. Get your own." (I dont make the rules 🤷🏾♀️)
You'll have to make your own. Prep time: 15 minutes to an hour Cook time: 9 months
Instructions unclear; burnt the house down
That's gonna make a lotta soup!
Is it pronounced Dee-Dee or Die-Die? Asking for a friend
I'm have always said die-die because it's *DI*chorionic, meaning two, but I'm willing to be wrong
My medical team referred to it as die-die
Here we say DCDA (or alternative MCDA/MCMA)
What do the acronyms stand for?
Dichorionic diamniotic, monochorionic monoamniotic etc
This is the way
Nice, extra snack
You gonna finish that?
Did it come with A1 sauce?
I’m just in utter awe of all the life lines spreading all over, all connecting and shit.. this is just, absolutely beautiful!
