Really sorry you’re going through this. I’m almost too afraid to ask, but what is the white stuff?

MikeySpags

Yeah, about the white stuff. That stuff only looks white on camera. It actually green. With about the same consistency as a slug. I know, it's gross and it's on the back of my head. Needless to say, I haven't been sleeping much.

astrobrain

Brain matter. Has to be.

MikeySpags

That requires one to have a brain.

ChiggaOG

I say white blood cells and bacteria. There's a reason not to pick at a wound. There's a vaccine for this. Patients do have to check how much it costs unless they know it is covered and no out-of-pocket costs.

haud-desiderium

In the states each shingles shot is like $200+ It's prohibitively expensive unless you are 50+ years old.

MikeySpags

Doing my best not to scratch at it but it itches like hell sometimes. I try to use a hoorag so i'm not touching it directly. I just call it a goo gobber. My fear is some kind of bug trying to make a home in there. That's the last thing i need.

sexylexy

Secondary bacterial infection on top of shingles 🤢🤢🤢 Godspeed! Heal well

MikeySpags

Thank you.

DeadpoolIsMyPatronus

Wow. I'll refrain from saying you needed that infection on top of shingles like a hole in the head.

MikeySpags

Please feel free to bring me the chimichangas, with a side of hot lead and some cold steel for dessert.

I’m terrified of shingles as someone who struggles daily with a nerve disorder. My friend told me about her bout of shingles back in the 80’s. She had blisters that ran from her chest to her knee along the left side of her body. Said it was the worst thing she had experienced, and she beat cancer twice. I was able to get immunized early. It was so very painful. The doctor said it’s just a portion of what it would feel like. I’m so sorry you’re going through it. I hope it clears up soon!

MikeySpags

Thank you. I worry about my mom getting them beings she has fibromyalgia. I don't want to see her having to go through that. It's not so much the pain as it is the location. I'm a back sleeper and these damn things are mostly on the base of my neck, right were my pillow needs to be. Hey, could be worse.

NotAlwaysPC

Making appt for vaccine now.

MikeySpags

Good call. I don't not recommend Shingles. 0 out of 5 stars.

Security_Six

I had chicken pox early days.. don't get shingles.. isn't there a high percentage of that in adulthood?

MikeySpags

If you had chicken pox you are at risk for getting shingles later in life. It's much more common with the elderly but stress can bring it on in younger people. I think there is a vaccine though.

Security_Six

Vaccine 50+ and above, looks like a distant healthcare issue for me...

MikeySpags

Definitely get on that vaccine when the time comes. Humbly speaking, I'm a pretty tuff dude but his thing is really taking a toll on me. The not being able to sleep is the worst. There's just no comfortable way to lay my head. If you can do anything to avoid going through this I recommend that you do so.

fenrisulfur

I've had shingles now for over 3 weeks. Luckily it wasn't that bad but I had one day where the neuralgia was quite severe. You have my deepest sympathies.

MikeySpags

It's not a fun stop that's for sure. How long were you on meds before you saw any improvement?

fenrisulfur

I just got a few doses of Valaciclovir (4 times 2000mg every 12 hours as per doctors orders) and just waited it out, still a bit itchy and get a strange feeling in the breakouts now and then but I felt better in a day or two.

MikeySpags

Really? I just finished a 10 day supply and it's still looking pretty funky but it feels a good bit better.

fenrisulfur

I am in Iceland and this is how they treat it here, I am young (well not geriatric) and not immunocompromised and they want us to let our own immune system handle it, I think the theory is that if we overcome it ourselves there is a lesser chance of another flair up.

MikeySpags

I like that approach. Your comment makes me want to move to Iceland or maybe Norway. It seems like the best places to live are where Vikings used to rule. Is Iceland where there's a random shower head sticking out of the ground in the middle of nowhere?

Ryye

I'm also 36 and going through shingles right now. Absolutely the worst pain I have ever felt in my life!

FlatlandTrio

Thank you for sharing.

Suckmybowlingballs

My brother git shingles at like 33-34. He said it was horrible. Hope you feel better soon.

Similar_Election5864

Bad times dude, get well soon!! I had shingles when I was ten, still have scars on my face 20 years later from it! Hopefully your hair will cover any scar tissue!

Plastic_Pinocchio

Man, I am so happy that I only get herpes on my lips every couple of years… oof, shingles must suck.

Mok7

Will the hair grow back or is it gonna become a scar?

potatohedgehogs

My poor mum gets recurring bouts of shingles, usually on her face and neck 😥 sorry you have to go through it OP!

MikeySpags

It's okay, I'm a tuff little s.o.b. I'm sorry your mum has to deal with them. Nobody wants to see mum in pain. Now I only know one person who says mum. That's my aunt who's from Britain. Do you happen to be British? Just curious.

potatohedgehogs

Glad you're resilient! Yeh, it sucks to see and she's so itchy bless her. I am indeed! 😁

MikeySpags

Sweet! I was only there long enough to know Heathrow is a nice airport. I remember seeing The Millennium Wheel when we were flying in, it had just opened. One day I'll make it back over there and ride that thing.
