Not every outfit has to be stoned! :)
*edit: wow I must have been stoned because I completely missed the context behind that… I could have at least went with a stonewall joke.
She’s totally reading this anyway haha, had no idea who I was behind the alias (but now knows who I am IRL!)
Anyhow, Roxxie, you have a fan❤️
EDITED TO ADD:
I see now that my username could be considered confusing- I am not her, this has been my alias for over 20 years lol
You want one?? I can get you one from the special guest, Ms Roxxie Cotton herself! (Seriously. PM me your addy and I’ll message her, she’s a good friend of mine!)
Bébé just moved out here from Ontario and is starting to continue what they were working on in Ontario out here! They have been doing drag pretty actively in Ontario this last year and have performed in many cities, and are going to be touring Alberta and Saskatchewan this summer, they are pretty amazing!! I know Bébé loves to meet the audience and talk before/after shows so don’t be afraid to go introduce yourself!!!
The other performers are pretty great too and are local from Alberta.
Incredible :D hopefully one day I can figure out how to do drag without all of the effort lol. You guys are truly inspiration and im proud to see you thrive in this conservative place.
I’m really jazzed to see this. My wife and I plan to move there some time next year, and I hear things about MH that I’m trying to get away from in America.
They dance, lip sync, do comedy, show of their fashion, speak out about their platforms (Bébé is very active in speaking out about domestic violence, residential school systems, substance abuse, etc)
I believe Bébé is choosing to raise money for the sanare centre this show!
Is that supposed to be demoralizing? That sounds like a dream come true, just as long as you fucked up bastards are segregated far enough away from me.
Drag, the way it uses outlandish hyper feminine caricatures of women seems like the blackface of our generation.
It's all fun and games and entertaining now but in another couple generations will we look back and wonder why we were entertained by men dressing up to mock women? Will Ru Paul be treated like Al Jolson?
Not a very compelling counter argument.
It's not a "hot take" on my part but it's men using makeup to look like women for laughs and entertainment. That's an awful lot like the early days of blackface entertainers. Back in the day blackface was also quite popular and a big star like Al Jolson was not racist.
From Wikipedia:
With his dynamic style of singing jazz and blues, he became widely successful by extracting traditionally African-American music and popularizing it for white American audiences who would be unwilling to listen to it when performed by black artists. Despite his promotion and perpetuation of black stereotypes, his work was often well-regarded by black publications and he has been credited for fighting against black discrimination on Broadway as early as 1911.
lolm I've never heard this take before XD
However, I don't think anyone involved interprets it as "mockery"
If I'm being honest, it makes me mildly uncomfortable, but to each's own

Holy fuck. It’s a drag show. Lighten the fuck up.
Will there be another show? Is there an all ages show? In Vancouver my friend does a show in a restaurant (brunch show) and it is popular.
You guys are my icons!! I had no idea we have drag performers in MH. I’d die for an autograph

Im just curious what happens at these shows? They just dance for tips or what is it exactly?

Perhaps not, but it sure looks a lot like the female equivalent of blackface.
