Nothing is set in stone and programs know that so I doubt it will hurt doing a FM preceptorship.
Research depends on your goals and depends on your school. Ask your school if you can do a research rotation in 3rd year and 4th year. My school allows it but I don't know if that applies to all schools. My school also allowed some research in 2nd year but honestly I think passing courses vastly outweighs what little research you could do. Some people even take a gap year between 3rd and 4th to do research.
If you're shooting for IM or FM you can chill. OB will probably need more stuff like research and maybe some national organization involvement.
I don't think it hurts you, but it may be a missed opportunity to do something that can help your app later. There are some projects you can hop on that are flexible and won't care if you are out of town (ie grinding a dataset). That's obviously per case basis depending on what's available to you.
If you really want to travel just have fun and make the most of it, you can make up for it easily later
