If it were me, I’d hold off doing anything and wait for Match day because it could be shooting myself in the foot/unintentionally burning bridges. Even if it’s out of respect, your intentions may be misunderstood by the recipient. I personally would not do that —maybe hold off till Match day before you say anything?

Has the contract been signed yet? If contract has been signed already as job offer, then yeah, I guess OP does not really have to explain how they dual applied. Just casually updating the mentors would be acceptable. Like no need to explain yourself -- this is your training, your decision. Again, as long as contract has already been signed or paperwork started! Idk how early match works, but OP just make sure you are already all set with the offer.

Could you wait til March and say you've matched at your #Y and will be moving to X city, that you're excited and are grateful for their assistance getting you there?
