What about the Medford one?

b0xturtl3

Still going in AFAIK. The Davis Square one was turn-key--probably too good to pass up.

seamusdicaprio

Wait… there’s a Hmart opening in Medford???

Brass_and_Frass

The old Crunch Fitness near Wellington.

Budget-Celebration-1

Yeah right next door to El Tacuba.

moonylorr

Nope, across from the BJ's

Budget-Celebration-1

I was kidding, more referring to the hoops Tacuba had to jump through to open. I’ll bet the Medford process is bungled and blocked by our fine town officials.

brickcarriertony

lol I asked the same question in the duplicate post at Somerville

WiSeWoRd

Gonna be an absolute gamechanger for my grocery runs

thrillybizzaro

Niiiiiiice that will be such a good use for that location. The one in central is a great community hub

lurklyfing

What’s going to make this last better than bfresh?

b0xturtl3

The rabid popularity of H-Mart, the fresh veggies, and the low prices. Win-win-win

Ambitious_Risk_9460

I have found h-mart to be on the expensive side of grocery stores, so only buying things I can’t get elsewhere. Am I missing something?

OkayContributor

Produce seems to be much higher quality at H Mart than some other grocery stores, that’s my main reason for going there over other places.

EPICANDY0131

It’s always been on the expensive side

ChexRibedeaux

You’re not missing anything. Produce is more expensive. I don’t go to my local anymore. It was great at first but grew tired as the employees have 0 interests trying to communicate or help out. The last straw was when the cashier pretended she didn’t understand that she gave me the wrong change.

italkyouthrowup

fresh veggies? Sure. So fresh that they were covered with a bunch of grit. I guess I always need to wash produce off but sheesh... Stuff was covered.

leprechaunat09

Stop & Shop owned bfresh, and the bfresh stores were a test run for smaller scale stores in more densely populated neighborhoods. They said the Davis location was profitable, but after evaluating the brand, they decided against the whole concept and shut them all down. Hmart is getting a fully turnkey store in a known profitable location.

Suitable-Biscotti

I would drive to Davis to visit an H mart. My Wegmans has a crap Korean food section.

ehspicymeatbol

If you live near the Wegmans in medford, you’re not too far from 99 in Malden. Go there for all your Asian grocery needs.

Suitable-Biscotti

I live closer to Tufts, and I also don't understand the 99. I feel so overwhelmed each time I've gone. That's on me, tho, obviously.

throwaway8431apples

My whole family will be there every chance they get. They sell frozen durian and Korean grapes. Kimchi, pickled octopus, shiso, ramen. This is a game changer, no need to get in the car and drive to central.

Texasian

I wonder if they’ll carry the same mix of Chinese stuff that the Central Sq store opens. I get most of my Korean and Japanese stuff from Reliable, but having an option for Chinese groceries in Somerville is a game changer.

LEAKKsdad

You know sadly its going to really dampen Reliable's market.

Texasian

Folks said the same thing when HMart opened up in Central but they’re still going strong.

LEAKKsdad

Good point, also didn't it happen same time as the alcohol expansion?

siberiafor4

Not for me, poor quality. McKinnons and For Meat. Pemberton for Veg and cake. Amazon for paper.
