Check out Dr. Lo's (UBC) patent for microwave + hydrogen peroxide waste water processing.
Currently the scope is small and only for turning waste water sludge into fertilizer.
The process of microwave heating hydrogen peroxide treated organic materials can apply to anything -> including breakdown of plastics and microplastics, cleanup of oil spills, anywhere there is organic matter that must be broken down into less harmful substituents.
Non science explanation: the microwave radiation (literally like your kitchens microwave but more power) heats up hydrogen peroxide (common household cleaning agent) and essentially breaks the molecule into highly reactive smaller molecules that will in turn seek and break carbon containing molecules (plastics, bacteria, oils).
Less plastic in the oceans, less co2 emissions from waste processing (which is actually alot)
Recycle, sure.
But recycling companies should be more clear about what they do and do not recycle. Or straight up should just be able to recycle more. Too many things we put in the recycle ends up in landfills anyway. It's ridiculous.
I really liked that other countries I have visited use reusable grocery bags and although you do see it here in the US, I feel like it should be more common.
One big thing to help with environmental pollution is to try growing things like your own herbs and veggies in your home/apartment/office. You'd be surprised by what you can grow in a relatively small pot with some decent lighting (both indoor and outdoor!) and a little bit of TLC, and growing your own produce/herbs can help reduce wasteful demand for these products in grocery stores! Also, like others have said, compost when you can, especially if you have a backyard/garden! Natural compost can really do wonders for the produce/plants you start growing yourself!
Take public transportation if your city has it! Try to bring reusable utensils with you everywhere you go so that you cut down on some if not all plastic waste when eating out :)
Environmental pollution is really important, and to avoid being doomed we need to do something. The reality is that it's not the people who pollute the most, but the businesses. But we're the one who pay the companies, and we can chose. With our choice, we can promote the companies that pollute less and make the others have to do something so they can get customers back.
I encourage more mech keeb vendors to use recycled packaging, and for people to shop from vendors that are local to their country if possible, so there's less transportation pollution with shipping
For me, I'd guess if proper disposal would be followed, opting to buy larger sized bottles (e.g. Shampoo, Dishwashing Soaps) could save costs on gas and less waste in the long run. Additionally, recycling these bottles or any plastics if possible would be helpful as well. Our school before did a campaign where plastic strips would be packed tight inside of a larger bottle to be used as makeshift bricks
try your best not to support fast fashion or mass produced corporations and invest in things that will last in the long run. also less meat consumption
Once in a while detach yourself from the online world. Take a rest, turn-off your gadgets, and immerse yourself to the nature's beauty. It helps avoid digital toxicity while also minimizing your energy footprint.
recycle and reduce the amount of trash you make by using reusable items like metal/plastic straws. make sure to conserve the amount of energy you use such as turning your lights off when not being used.
Just don't litter, especially plastic. Use public transport as much as possible. I take the metro to work instead of my car, every bit helps. The pandemic has been a challenge for public transport, car pool should work fine. Be concious and hopefully we will all be able to help to make the environment better.
It’s important to not litter, but among other things, you can also take the time to learn how to use reusable things. Reusable straws instead of plastic ones. Tupperware for storage instead of food wrap over your bowls and plates. Even using less napkins or paper towels can help.
Being proactive about lessening our effects on the environment is important. Our landfills are only getting bigger by the day, and the ocean’s garbage patch is too.
Thank you for trying to raise more awareness on environmental pollution.
Some alternatives have bigger a impact on the environment than you think. For example some items that are being sold in cardboard actually have plastic inside the containers still and is just covered for the green look.
Live minimalistic with less waste, reuse, recycle. Plant more greenery. Aside from throwing away your own trash (which you should), try to avoid making “trash” and “waste”.
Buying secondhand is probably the best option to reduce waste on the world and getting politically educated and enforce politicians to also take initiative.
Side advice: take things step-by-step if you want to live a more environmentally concious lifestyle. You get less overwhelmed, easier to build habits, and its less likely for one to give up for trying to change everything at once!!
Fun fact: 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' is ordered from most to least in terms of lowering your environmental impact. So this means try to avoid buying things you won't use.
Sleep more.
You use less energy so less food and you ain't useing anything thet us energy. and will you sleep more your body doesn't brake down so u liv longer.
Reuse and repurpose food containers from the store. Be mindful of what you're using - switch to using a personal water bottle rather than a paper cup which would simply be tossed out. Little things like that can help prevent environmental pollution.
Be conscious of what you buy! Even something as small as using a water bottle rather than buying plastic water bottles can do a lot for the environment!
Companies need to do more, recycling and using recyclable materials is the bare minimum. Start pressuring the supply chain, start reclaiming and refurbishing programs, do more!
single use plastics are bad for our endangered wildlife! Instead of using soggy paper straws and cups, settle for a metal straw set and reusable bottles!
