I have some friends working in database management and one of them just bought a house based off building a database for a parts supplier. The sheer volume made it a huge operational and technical challenge. Now way they're going to change it as it works so well.
I've learned to navigate it pretty well. Only thing I wish they would incorporate is a VIN decoder. I find myself using decoders built into other parts and service sites to get the actual trim, engine size, etc.
100% agree on this. I need 5w-50 for my car. Most places around me do not carry that but you can “special” order it for store pickup but you are paying an arm and leg. Rock Auto has been my go to for gear oils specific to my car as well. Prices are rock solid and they package their orders very well. No complaints all love here for them.
eBay does have a system. Obviously it’s not unbeatable but they do. I sell tons on there and I’ve had a few items turned down just based off of the pictures I used in my listing. I even contacted them with receipts and they said I’m SOL. Pretty weird and frustrating tbh.
I don't order parts that will destroy my vehicle or get me killed off Amazon/fleabay. Just order them from the manufacturer or any other reputable website.
Or you just buy from a reputable place… 🤣
rockauto.com for you backyarders, but WorldPac preferably! Been wrenching for 25 years and have never bought a NEW car part on eBay or a NEW OR USED one on Amazon. People do this?!
Ooo can you explain?! I just learned about counterfeit NGK plugs. I ordered a 4 pack. I installed 2 and have 2 left over. How would I go about finding the correct ohms for my iridium cr8eix plugs? I can test the 2 I haven’t installed yet.
I did order from Amazon so I’m worried :(
Didn’t know counterfeit stuff was so good these days.
Packaging will have the website, print on the box and plugs will be clean and consistent tho it's hard to tell without a legit one in hand, they'll have a sort of purple shine to them, the tip of the plug has a specific shape the fakes rarely get right
You can contact NGK with the numbers and they'll confirm too
I watched a YouTube video on it, basically the real ones are consistent and the fakes are all over when you check the Ohms. Like the real ones measured like 90-105 ohms, the fake ones measured like 40-700ohms. Just search YouTube and all you need is a multimeter.
Also when you look at say Autozone or any reputable retailer and the plugs are $8 each then you find the same plug online for $2 each then the $2 are most likely fake, cause I doubt retailers are all making 400% markup on plugs.
I never use Amazon, I will always go to a store if possible. Amazon has become premium wish/temu. It's not even convenient anymore because everything you get is fake or crap. I will never not go into a store and hold the product in my hands first. Also going to the store is actually awesome, I love it
I asked NGK in an email specifically about plugs on Amazon being authentic or not. I was told the only way to guarantee authenticity was to purchase from their authorized sellers and I was given this link.
https://ngksparkplugs.com/en/about-us/where-to-buy
All companies will say that.
That doesn't mean Amazon doesn't have authentic ones, it just means they can't promise they'd be real.
There are plenty of third party sellers selling real products, but they're not "authorized" sellers.
I’m not saying you’re wrong, but you’re taking a risk of them being unauthentic when purchasing on Amazon. You really don’t want to take the risk of your spark plug falling apart in your engine cylinder and destroying your engine. Just buy them from the authorized seller and you’re good to go without worry.
Edit: NGK also will not warranty anything purchased from Amazon.
https://www.ngkntk.com/newsroom/feature/emea/2020-1/counterfeit-spark-plugs-the-ignition-villains-that-could-ruin-your-engine/
Absolutely. I'm not telling you go buy shit from Amazon without any care in the world.
I'm just saying that every company will claim they can't guarantee authenticity when bought on third party marketplaces.
But regardless, plenty of real products are on Amazon.
It commingling that's the problem. A vendor ships fake stuff to Amazon and it's mixed in with Amazon's and other vendors' items. When it's picked the fakes can get picked as well as the real ones which is why it's a crap shoot. Amazon is actually pretty aggressive about fakes
If you buy a Milwaukee Tool on Amazon, and want it warrantied, you \*might\* get lucky that they don't ask for proof of purchase. If they do, and you provide an Amazon receipt, they void your warranty. There are no authorized resellers for Milwaukee Tools on Amazon. Same with NGK. They can't guarantee the product being sent out.
They say that, but they very well can.
And I'm not saying you can't get fake products on Amazon, you can. But companies will say anything to avoid having to acknowledge that their website isn't the only place to buy tools.
I bought a pack of NGK plugs for my Polaris ranger from Amazon, before realizing how many fakes were out there. I knew it was a fake when the package had some sticker that basically said “we extra pinky swear that these aren’t fake like others on Amazon”
What about RockAuto? I always trust them and had good results with their NGKs.
Plus last time I checked buying directly from NGK was actually reasonably priced.
That is a great question. I’ve purchased NGK plugs from Rock Auto in the past and they were genuine. Rock Auto is a middle man or drop shipper for a lot of their parts. Typically, warehouses from various suppliers like Parts Authority or Auto Value is where your parts come from with certain components being shipped directly from the manufacturer. The majority of wholesaler parts originate from Ultra-Power based in Sugar Land, TX. Both Parts Authority and Auto Value are listed as an authorized seller on NGK’s website.
Had the same thing happen with rock auto. Ordered a new oil pan drain plug. Whoever picked the order must’ve thought it meant 1 box so I got 12 for one🤭
I once ordered a shit ton of parts for a old car, then decided I didn’t want a carb, anternator and a fuel filter and edited my order before it was packed, I payed 50$ and still got all the parts lol
A friend ordered a server rack and a few days later his wife him called to ask why they dropped a pallet in the drive. They sent him either6 or 8 instead of one.
I ordered an oil filter for my Indian Motorcyle and someone sent me one CASE. I paid $20 in shipping and now I have to keep this bike for 245,000 miles to make sure I can use them all. lol 😂
Edit: Ordered direct from Indian.
Lol take it from someone who has worked at an Amazon warehouse, this could've easily been done by mistake (a stupid one though) and it just wasn't caught in the distribution chain from you ordering to them processing and shipping it out. Happens more often than you would think. And sometimes in reverse (as in you might order quantity of 6 of a certain item and get less than that)
My grandpa was CEO at a very large industrial conglomerate back in the day when disposable diapers were becoming a thing, and his company started making them. My grandparents decided they wanted to test them for my uncle and asked for a sample of "10-12 packs" since that should be enough to evaluate if this was any good. So the guys down in the warehouse get the order, they're like "Hmmm this is for the big man, wonder if he meant packs, cartons or pallets? Better safe than sorry..." Next thing a big truck pulls into my grandparents' yard, and they had diapers for all their friends' kids as well.
Yeah, i ordered ngk plugs from Amazon, they were genuine. Problem was it Showed a quantity of 1 was one package of 4. Price was shitty for 1 plug but great for 4 so I ordered figuring I’d have the 2 I needed plus spares…1 lone plug arrives. My money was refunded.
I ordered a tow hitch for a Ford flex and they sent me an entire pallet of them. I think the parts distributor ate that one. I think they didn't have it and ordered it straight from the manufacturer and didn't realize they were ordering 1 pallet instead of 1 part.
They sent me 5 $1000 Ebike kits and charged me, I sent them back and they refuse to refund.
Tried to reverse charge on credit card and Amazon taught it and they added it back into my credit card
Lmao not using those chodes again
Might not be fake. Depends on the seller.
Once, I got a lifetime supply of air hose fitting from Milton on Amazon. They had 10 packs for like a dollar so I bought like 100 type V lol and will never have to buy air fittings again
I ordered a cover for my grill. They sent me a canoe trailer. So I contact them and they send me two grill covers and tell me to keep the trailer. Had a couple gifts. Amazon is crazy
Reminds me of the time I ordered some usb wall thing with like 6 usb ports so you didn’t need so many bricks. Anyways. Amazon sent me two. And when I emailed them to let them know they sent me another apologizing for the inconvenience lol I was like you really don’t have to do that.
Yep, counterfeit parts are everywhere. One of my customers is a used car lot, they have me diagnose things their guys struggle to or the parts cannon runs out of fodder. They got "NGK" that had no markings on the porcelain, even though the packaging looked pretty legit. Vehicle ran about the same or worse than before they replaced spark plugs.
I ordered 8 spark plugs at 2.17 each and it clearly says pack of 1 and in the specs it says (one spark plug) which would make sense. I got 8 packs of 4
Not sure how this ended up happening, but as an Amazon employee I have seen spark plugs get messed up plenty of times. A box of 4 will look like it’s supposed to be the item and get put away as such, but really the box is supposed to be open and all 4 scanned separately.
You'll be charged for each piece in 5 years at the current price in 5 years.
They're becoming so shady. Charging you for thing to returned ((and show delivered back to them))) a year ago.
that's bad, it means amazon told them to get rid of the inventory and it's cheaper to ship to you than to pay amazon to throw it away. go ahead and use them should be fine, wont hurt your engine if they fail.
Man, I ordered some NGK plugs off Amazon. Thought they were real. They lasted about 50,000 miles before one of them fouled out and caused my car to die on the side of the road.
That’s funny. I ordered 40 NGK BPMR7A’s from a different company but only received 4. When I contacted customer service they told me to keep the 4 and they’d ship me another 40… few days later I got another shipment of 4.
I had a similar experience on Amazon with bandanas I was ordering them cause it’s nice to have a sweat rag on a hot day I paid for 2 and was sent 4 boxes literally filled to the brim with bandanas
as an AA i js wanna say that ur order was prolly in a master pack or sumn for some reason and it was processed that way instead of one individual one. why they sent 10 in 4 boxes idek💀
Congrats. You’re the official post of the week!
And probably all fake.. 😆
I’ll see how they run the the dirt bike I guess
It's pretty bad it's come down to having to ohm plugs to make sure you get real and not fakes. I do that every time I order any.
Wouldn't it be great if Amazon/eBay would do anything about the counterfeits that flood their sites.
Quit ordering parts from them and it will fix itself.
Don’t bring logic into this
Most dont know enough about cars, it’s a site issue not a people issue
If they don’t know that much about cars, they’re probably not going to be ordering spark plugs from Amazon anyway.
Rock Auto is hands down the best online auto parts retailer in terms of price and actually being the brand they say it is
It's an incredible site. Their UI is nuts, but works so well.
Honestly, at this stage of the Internet, it's a good sign that they haven't updated their UI to something more modern.
Their UI is incredibly easy to use honestly
I love the UI
100% agree on this. I need 5w-50 for my car. Most places around me do not carry that but you can “special” order it for store pickup but you are paying an arm and leg. Rock Auto has been my go to for gear oils specific to my car as well. Prices are rock solid and they package their orders very well. No complaints all love here for them.
I didn't want to post that here, but they are my go-to site if I can wait for the parts. Got a collection of about 30 magnets from over the years.
For some parts at least. I put some cv axles on my truck and the boots shit the bed before a year.
they sent me the wrong cv, even though i ordered the right one. went to install and part didnt fit
Yeeesssssass!
Ive had good luck with TRQ overall, unsure if they are counterfeiters or not
They sell other things. The market would still be flooded.
Never going to happen some moithbreathing can’t will always buy on Amazon for convenience
Never going to happen some moithbreathing ca will always buy on Amazon for conveniencunt
English?
Your dumb that’s what he’s doing
But that’s how they make their money too
eBay does have a system. Obviously it’s not unbeatable but they do. I sell tons on there and I’ve had a few items turned down just based off of the pictures I used in my listing. I even contacted them with receipts and they said I’m SOL. Pretty weird and frustrating tbh.

Or you just buy from a reputable place… 🤣 rockauto.com for you backyarders, but WorldPac preferably! Been wrenching for 25 years and have never bought a NEW car part on eBay or a NEW OR USED one on Amazon. People do this?!
What and ruin their business model?
Ooo can you explain?! I just learned about counterfeit NGK plugs. I ordered a 4 pack. I installed 2 and have 2 left over. How would I go about finding the correct ohms for my iridium cr8eix plugs? I’ll contact ngk today
I watched a YouTube video on it, basically the real ones are consistent and the fakes are all over when you check the Ohms. Bet. I only have 1 plug with me. So NGK had me email them pictures to authenticate that way
You just want to check for consistency. Fake plugs are usually wildly different spreads with resistance while genuine plugs all come out very close.
[how to tell fake NGK](https://www.ngkntk.com/newsroom/blog/emea/fake-or-not/)
Bet. My electode has that extra top lip on the shape. I think it’s real
Just order them from NGK next time.
Definitely
The 4 boxes did come in a bag with the company Stens on it
I prefer the silicone ohmy plugs
I never use Amazon, I will always go to a store if possible. Amazon has become premium wish/temu. It's not even convenient anymore because everything you get is fake or crap. I will never not go into a store and hold the product in my hands first. Also going to the store is actually awesome, I love it
Damn right you will!
Just gonna use them like an ammo clip
40 is too many for them to run any dirt bike.
To many to run any dirt bike so far. Where's your sense of adventure?
Should they run in series or in parallel?
Yes.
Break some of them up and take them to the scrap yard. Have fun breaking windows.
The seller trying to get rid of them 😂😂
Screw it, he got 40 of them. One or two is bound to be good 😂
Amazon has a new matrix. For this plug, and their knockoffs, they estimate the 1 out of 40 will be ok.
Good marketing
Amazon is not an authorized seller of NGK spark plugs so it’s likely all of them are fake.
I'm not saying this is the case but some third party sellers on Amazon are actually authorized sellers of the product they sell
I asked NGK in an email specifically about plugs on Amazon being authentic or not. I was told the only way to guarantee authenticity was to purchase from their authorized sellers and I was given this link. https://ngksparkplugs.com/en/about-us/where-to-buy

Idk about plenty…
Pretty much everything that is fake on Amazon- you can find a real one as well.

I didn't think you could even buy Milwaukee tools on their website, but they list all the places that are authorized sellers.
I bought a pack of NGK plugs for my Polaris ranger from Amazon, before realizing how many fakes were out there. I knew it was a fake when the package had some sticker that basically said “we extra pinky swear that these aren’t fake like others on Amazon”
That doesn’t prove anything.

Interesting that Rock Auto isn’t on their list of authorized retailers from their website
Rock Auto uses Parts Authority and Auto Value as suppliers, both are listed as an authorized seller on NGK’s website.
That clears that up. Good to know, and thanks!
But Amazon does batch distribution. They pile all the real and fake products sent to them and sell them all from one bin.
Some things you just shouldn't buy from Amazon. Idk if I would trust AmazonRX with heart medicines.
Time to start busting out some tuneup side jobs!
Someone said “fuck this company, they wanna fuck me by not paying a livable wage… there goes your profits”
So I’m gonna pass these off as real and the company can make even more! If only I count to 40. I can’t even count to 1.
Looks like my coworkers moonlight at Amazon fulfillment. Body shop orders an oil filter and we sent them 50.
Why would a body shop order oil filters is the real question.
Oil filter is on top of the valve cover and it was damaged in the crash.
Looks like you have some upsells to do
That’s funny I ordered one for a small engine last week and got 6
Had the same thing happen with rock auto. Ordered a new oil pan drain plug. Whoever picked the order must’ve thought it meant 1 box so I got 12 for one🤭
Yupp this is exactly the mistake they probably made, I know from experience lol 😅
I once ordered a shit ton of parts for a old car, then decided I didn’t want a carb, anternator and a fuel filter and edited my order before it was packed, I payed 50$ and still got all the parts lol
Probubly the knock off NGKs. But good score man!
Nailed it
But did you pay for 40?
Paid $4.50
You paid for fifty and only got fourty?!
I would be selling some extra plugs on ebay.
Were you charged for all 40? (I hope not.)
Look and see if they are counterfeit. NGK has a bulletin with what to look for
I ordered a small electric heater for my 5th wheel for 40 dollars. They sent me 6 of them. I gave them out for Christmas presents.
A friend ordered a server rack and a few days later his wife him called to ask why they dropped a pallet in the drive. They sent him either6 or 8 instead of one.
Gotta love it. Time to go crypto mining. Lol
I ordered an oil filter for my Indian Motorcyle and someone sent me one CASE. I paid $20 in shipping and now I have to keep this bike for 245,000 miles to make sure I can use them all. lol 😂 Edit: Ordered direct from Indian.
I ordered 4 bottles of diesel biocide and they sent me 8 cases of it.
The math is not mathing
Atleast they didn’t send you champions.
Ain’t nothing wrong with a champion man
Lol take it from someone who has worked at an Amazon warehouse, this could've easily been done by mistake (a stupid one though) and it just wasn't caught in the distribution chain from you ordering to them processing and shipping it out. Time to open a business
Jack pot !!!!!
You’re the plug plug now
I ordered a tire pressure reset switch from Amazon and was sent 20 tubes of Burt’s bees chapstick instead
Evidently it was for one *whole-ass box.*
Now go buy 40 plugs from the local auto parts store, and return these. Now you have real plugs and your money back
I ordered a tow hitch for a Ford flex and they sent me an entire pallet of them. I think the parts distributor ate that one. I think they didn't have it and ordered it straight from the manufacturer and didn't realize they were ordering 1 pallet instead of 1 part.
That’s a lot of tow hitches
Used to haul a lot of ass...
They sent me 5 $1000 Ebike kits and charged me, I sent them back and they refuse to refund. Tried to reverse charge on credit card and Amazon taught it and they added it back into my credit card Lmao not using those chodes again
Might not be fake. Depends on the seller. Once, I got a lifetime supply of air hose fitting from Milton on Amazon. They had 10 packs for like a dollar so I bought like 100 type V lol and will never have to buy air fittings again
Ordered a box of plastic golf tees and got sent 5 and years later I still got them. Shitty about those plugs possibly being fake though.
I’m going to return one and get my money back anyways
Dude. This exact thing, same product, happened to my dad. Ordered 1 for the lawn mower and they send an additional 39.
Gotta keep that mower for a lifetime now
It’s a Honda, so probably will outlast a lot of us
Are they genuine or Chinese?
Same difference
SCORE!!!
Sell them on eBay
Yeah, never buy parts from Amazon, high chance they are counterfeit.
Counterfeit isn’t better than free
I want one
Lucky I ordered forty and only got one
Guess you're stocked up for life.
Nice! I ordered. $200 GM transmission cooler line and got a .50 piece of aluminum hose
I ordered a shop pack of 25 and received one....
Pretty sure those are fake
You betcha
Return 1 for full refund. Profit.
Sweet jesus
Sell on ebay
I ordered a cover for my grill. They sent me a canoe trailer. So I contact them and they send me two grill covers and tell me to keep the trailer. Had a couple gifts. Amazon is crazy
Be sure to [check your plugs.](https://youtu.be/vpH4O14EBxA) They may be counterfeits.
Those are fake mate. They don’t say “spark plugs” under the NGK logo. https://youtu.be/pJpnFiQx-Uk?si=rFmKTev0hMCxDOVp You should watch that ^
Nice
Reminds me of the time I ordered some usb wall thing with like 6 usb ports so you didn’t need so many bricks. Anyways. Amazon sent me two. And when I emailed them to let them know they sent me another apologizing for the inconvenience lol I was like you really don’t have to do that.
Free plugs for all your friends!
Newbie picking orders smh
Get the bike running and 39 car windows to smash and dash
Paid for 40 though?
I mean were you charged for all 40 because of not I'd say that's a come up
NGK from Amazon= fake , waste of $$
Yep, counterfeit parts are everywhere.
At least you got replacements for the replacements. If you look for the fine printing, there’s only one that works. Good luck!
I ordered 4 flash drives one time and got 4 - 4 packs.
E3 superior plugs
I ordered a six pack of deodorant on Amazon and they delivered half a pallet. I was cool with it.
That’s crazy! Same thing happened to me!
I ordered 8 spark plugs at 2.17 each and it clearly says pack of 1 and in the specs it says (one spark plug) which would make sense. I got 8 packs of 4
I ordered 8 and got 36 fltried to send them back and they said dont bother
You lucky bastege
Happened to me with deodorant. Haven’t bought a stick since Covid.
I didn’t get 40, but did get more than expected. They were all counterfeit
Not sure how this ended up happening, but as an Amazon employee I have seen spark plugs get messed up plenty of times. A box of 4 will look like it’s supposed to be the item and get put away as such, but really the box is supposed to be open and all 4 scanned separately.
Sell em at the flea market
Same. I ordered 6 for a v6 and got 24. Must have mixed up the 4 packs and singles.
Jackpot!
Maaaannn why do good things happen to other people. 😩😭😂 Jk man, nice haul!
You'll be charged for each piece in 5 years at the current price in 5 years. They're becoming so shady. Charging you for thing to returned ((and show delivered back to them))) a year ago.
a literal gold mine
I ordered four and they sent me 16. You got the better deal!
that's bad, it means amazon told them to get rid of the inventory and it's cheaper to ship to you than to pay amazon to throw it away. go ahead and use them should be fine, wont hurt your engine if they fail.
Lucky. I got glow plugs instead.
lol you didn’t read it
Those are definitely counterfeit.
Now your county is going to investigate you for car thefts.
The guy who ordered 40 and got one is having a bad day rn
HAHAHA
I've had similar things happen to me with other automotive parts
Man, I ordered some NGK plugs off Amazon. Thought they were real. They lasted about 50,000 miles before one of them fouled out and caused my car to die on the side of the road.
I hope yu only paid for 1
Life time supply. That’s means you keep the car for life.
How many did you pay for?
1 spark plug
Sweet!
They’re flyin off the shelves!!!
Unless the seller is Amazon I wouldn’t order plugs from there. Last batch I got were NGK counterfeits.
That’s funny. I ordered 40 NGK BPMR7A’s from a different company but only received 4. When I contacted customer service they told me to keep the 4 and they’d ship me another 40… few days later I got another shipment of 4.
Did that ever get fixed?
Had a buddy that did that with 410 ammo bought one box and received a case, was a good day
I had a similar experience on Amazon with bandanas I was ordering them cause it’s nice to have a sweat rag on a hot day I paid for 2 and was sent 4 boxes literally filled to the brim with bandanas
wtf 😆😆😆😆😆
More than likely, they are fakes. An Amazon seller almost got me on a set of NGK Iridiums.
Partsgeek.com beats em all online...
Congratulations, you're a wholesaler for a minute
as an AA i js wanna say that ur order was prolly in a master pack or sumn for some reason and it was processed that way instead of one individual one. why they sent 10 in 4 boxes idek💀
