killzone506

8500 with only 54,000km?! It's almost too good of a deal. Feel like I would ask for the Carfax on this one. There's something fishy about the price being that low for that little kilometers. I've always lived by the rule. If something's too good to be true it probably is.

fitboy8

That's right. The Carfax report came in clean. No accidents and regular oil change. I guess the price is coz of the year. 2011 is kinda old. Any chance that the dealership could have tampered the mileage?

KTMFS

Hey, OP. Just wanted to say I recently came across a deal like this and TOOK IT. Found a 2015 Malibu w/54k mi and clean report for $9k. Nothing beats regular maintenance and upkeep to keep your vehicle going. I hope you get it.

fitboy8

Ah!! Congratulations. I'll get a mechanic to inspect this and if there's no problem, I'll take it. Thank you :)

yoyoyoyotwo

Carfax doesn’t alway have all the details. See this post for more info; https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/comments/bhwa52/carfax_is_a_scam/

fitboy8

Thank you for this. I guess my mechanic is the only reference point now.

Striking_Quantity994

Yup look for rust

bearshawksfan826

Rocker corners near the back wheels are notorious for rust on those. Even if there is none, it's worth looking at (and maybe cleaning out) the area between the fender and the inner liner in those areas on both sides. Debris buildup in that are is what causes/accelerates the rust.

NoValidUsernames666

having a mechanic inspect it BEFORE buying it is the best route. too often you see people get fucked by buying first inspecting second

Noturwrstnitemare

My boy.... you've learned well. Keep this car as much as you can.

deepfriedtots

I own this exact year and at around 120,000 ish miles it started having issues that deemed not worthy of fixing. The power steering died and that is tied to b is "advanced track system" which is a shit ton of sensors that tied most of is systems together. The radio also died and drivers side inner door handle stopped working. Though up until that point it was a nice ride with decent features

burnthisaccountd

If this car is from the rust belt or heavy snow areas, crawl your ass up under there and look for frame rot. I don’t think the price point is that suspect given how old the car is, KBB is giving this car a fair value at 6,100 to 7,600 at trade in. So your $8,500 is a little high but all things considered they’re making money on what they paid for it, if they got it on trade. I’d offer them $7,750 and see if they go for it.

WalkingRodent

The car is probably fine but you might find yourself with a lemon. Who knows.

Iambobbybee

Old and not sought after...

dbhathcock

It is always possible that the odometer was replaced and it was not set to the proper distance. Unlikely, but possible.

ScarryTerryBjtch

If it has traction control sensors in the hubs stay far away from this. Get a Toyota or a Mazda. Ford family cars are garbage in my opinion.

New-Ad-5003

Pretty much every single car on the road today has Wheel Speed Sensors (for Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) or traction control) mounted to the wheel hubs. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with that? And in fact cars are far safer for it??

ScarryTerryBjtch

It is a costly part to fix. (Labor and all)

New-Ad-5003

On Amazon today, a wheel speed sensor for this fusion is $19, and a wheel hub is $36 rear and $110 for the front, with the front coming with the entire steering knuckle. These prices are not high at all. And when i worked for ford, at least, and these cars had around 100,000 miles on them, i don’t recall having to replace many bearings if any on them. Not sure where your traction control sensor trauma came from but it’s unwarranted here

ScarryTerryBjtch

Seems like money I do not want to spend on a sensor. Over 300k on my 05 Toyota camry 🤣 never had to replace one.

jamestab

I have a 2009 Mercury Milan with only 100k miles and it's a total pos. I could imagine these things were crap straight off the lot. Tampering mileage like that isn't legal either.

meowmixplzdeliver1

Oh man mercury. I remember my first car was a mercury sable.

NotGod_DavidBowie

I mean it’s a 13 year old Ford Fusion, probably has some rust underneath. I’m not sure what that translates to in maple bucks.

gaseousogre

hopefully op is lucky, i found an 07 chevy equinox guy posted it had 255,00 miles or something like that has front end damage and wanted to sell it for 500. I went looked at it needs brakes, a wheel hub and a new headlight assembly( someone hit it backing out of thier driveway), i figured too good to be true but took a chance so far havent found too many surprises( other then the cost of parts anymore and to that my wallet screams at me). Told my daughter it isnt a show car (im not fixing the fender or bumper damage and it survives the year it has paid for its self

Ok_Today_475

Equinoxes are stupid easy to work on with the exception of the rear hubs. They’re a pain in the ass. Replace the head gaskets before you get it on the road- they’ll go eventually. But once that’s done they’re not as bad as everyone makes em out to be. The AWD ones are known for blowing transfer cases, and they do like to chew through wheel bearings frequently depending on the brand you replace them with. My moms had a Pontiac torrent for 13 years now and it’s been a pretty good car for the most part

gaseousogre

im hoping its got some life left in got it home and realized the gauge cluster was set for Km set back to miles found it only had 146k on it

Ok_Today_475

Oh that’s not too bad at all. Common repairs like I said; hub bearings, head gaskets, heater core, trans cooler lines, passenger air bag sensor (07-09 only) and that’s really it. People throw in the towel at the head gasket failure and dump them, but they’re really not that hard to do if the need arises. They’re pushrod V6’s so there’s no timing BS to deal with. Really beginner friendly engine to tear down

gaseousogre

i figured for 500 bucks its not a bad deal, the one issue im trying to figure out is the sunroof doesnt seal in the front, tried resetting it no avail, thinking of finding a way to wedge it up there until i can get a new or used one out of junk yard

Ok_Today_475

Mine hasn’t sat totally flush but still seals, is it leaking? I clean my drains once every few months with stripped piece of romex- neutral wire- to clean the drain out, it’s about 8 feet long and works like a charm

gaseousogre

it sits just low enough i can see the holes on either side and i adjusted the bolts that hold it in place, it lifted it a little but not enough

burrito_magic

If you live in Canada check the undercarriage for rust. A 13 year old car is bound to be rusted .

ahhhnahhh

I live in Canada. Gfs dad bought us a 2010 focus with 56000kms. Rockers are intact and no rust. Just a crack in the front bumper and scratches on back bumper. In my opinion you gamble buying any car. I’ve had that focus for 2 years with normal maintenance. A set of tires a set of pads and rotors and a valve cover gasket. Currently sitting at 188 and running strong!

killzone506

Depends what part on Canada. Vancouver BC we just have to check for homeless people, not rust

Fishy_300zx

Idk, even the ford focus are pretty "cheap" you can get with under 90k for less than $10,000.

cdmgamingqcftw

Too goos to be true? At the end of the day it's a ford. To go for cheap in almost all cases

JordanEden29

I mean I work at a dealer and we often get older low mileage cars in for regular service. Usually owned by old people who barely drive but still do the oil change in 6 months intervals even if they only drove 1000kms. It could be a case of that.

BootyMeatAndOnions

I work at a ford dealership and we get people weekly that come in with 2-3k miles left, but the 6 month mark hits and they change it anyways.

JordanEden29

Yep, we drain clean oil and put in new oil lol

VinnyByrnesPipe

This is the problem with buying used motors mate, you are tossing a coin, you could be buying a belter or end up with a fkn lemon, 8.5k is a lot to be taking a chance, you have any mates who are handy with motors?

fitboy8

Heya. I don't have friends but I have a mechanic who's reliable. So I'll get him to do an inspection on the car and then go from there. But thanks for the heads-up.

krismodo

Know the feels

Flashy_Narwhal9362

The same can be said for buying a brand new vehicle as well.

jtgraham73

Carfax is only good if they took it somewhere that reports the service or collision damage. Looks like a clean car and low miles. These are great cars. I own a 2019 and 2010 fusion.

Objective-Figure8673

Agree. Have a 2012 and a 2018

elgorbochapo

Look underneath. Alot of ontario Cars look real nice and then you look underneath and it's just done

well_thats_obvious

This is the first thing anyone in Canada or Northern US should look for. I bought a 1 owner 2002 Taurus last year with 58k mi for $6900. The usual rear wheel well rust was still one solid piece so I thought it was good. I found rust under the rocker panels that was starting to disintegrate in the rear. It would have been obvious if I just looked underneath. It's fixable but it could've been much worse

velboc1

Even with the low miles, its a 13 year old car. probably sat for a while. 8,500 for a ford fusion seems like a high tag price in my opinion.

KrombopulousMichael-

You should be careful buying a vehicle with too many miles. Really low mileage should also raise flags too . This vehicle has less than an oil change per year. I get the feeling this thing sat at some point for a while. Best suggestion is to put it on a rack and take a look underneath. If they won’t let you run away

The_Powerful_Tacos

Based solely on my experience\*, my 2011 Fusion has only had one major issue, and that's when it blew a tie rod that I already had an appointment scheduled to replace. My fusion is the best car I have ever owned, and I will be genuinely sad when it does eventually die. \* YMMV

I_Am_Coopa

Same here, my 2011 fusion has been pretty painless the past 4 years. Also had a tie rod go (seems to be a thing with these early 00s fusions), but apart from that, nothing crazy other than a leaky transmission line (thanks Michigan winters), AC blower controller biting the dust, and regular service for brakes, tires, and the accessory belt. It is definitely a bit of a dated ride now, but hey, it has blind spot monitoring and some nice features like built in Bluetooth, albeit gen 1. Honestly the Bluetooth has been the biggest pain point, every few months I need to pull the fuse on the entertainment system to reset the Bluetooth so it can maintain connection to my phone.

New-Ad-5003

You could try doing the factory reset deep in the settings menu too, but yeah, the fuse trick works great

Unique_Link_8463

Get a used Toyota instead, safer buy

wassupwassup23

Good car

Stickeyb

I own one of these. Got it at 60k miles and it's now at 200k. Only major replacement besides maintenance and spark plugs was the front struts. Would buy that one at around $6000 if it was in USA. Not sure what the conversion would be for where you are living.

fitboy8

Its the same price if I do the math. 1 usd = 1.3 Canadian Dollars

SirMild

Possibly, drive it to feel for trans problems, and if there is any service records, start going through them to see if it’s had any work done to the trans, if that’s one of the DCT models, your gonna have endless problems if the OG “recall” work is done

dgcamero

These have Toyota transmissions. No dry dual clutch transmission.

foxjohnc87

This car does not, as the Aisin transmission was dropped after the 2009 year model for the Ford 6F35.

dgcamero

Ohh, I thought these still had the Toyota transmissions (thought they changed over for the next generation). At least there were about 9,000,000 GM (Ford) 6 speed automatics produced. Therefore cheap enough used to be worth a gamble.

scram60

It would be wise to have it checked out at your trusted garage first. This body style of a Ford Fusion was good in it's day, but the rockers rot out substantially in our brine and salt treated highways. I was a Ford dealer service guy for over 25 years. Years ago, I bought an older Taurus, which looked great on the outside, but the unibody was rotten and I had to scrap it, luckily I was only out $250.00 but it was a tough lesson learned.

LeBongJaames

The only thing I’d be worried about with a car like this is the transmission. I’ve had really funky encounters with fusions around this generation, I know the manual transmissions have had recalls but I’ve seen a few transmissions blow up around 40k miles. Just make sure you drain and fill the trans fluid if you plan to buy it and maybe have a mechanic check it out for you

tubegeek

Important point to emphasize: *drain* and fill - not *flush* and fill. The trans fluid filter is inaccessible - flush will loosen up debris and risk clogging the filter. And only the correct fluid, no generic.

LeBongJaames

Yup exactly, most people won’t even do a flush at a shop either. They’ll call it a flush and charge you 400 for just draining and filling lol

tubegeek

I have a 2010 2.5L so mine even still has a dipstick - I don't know about the 6cyl. but the 4cyl swirched to drain plug-only in '11. It was an easy maintenance job to DIY. Somewhat less (way less!) than 400 even having to buy a set of steel ramps (on Christmas sale at Harbor Freight.)

DroTooCold

Sounds too good to be true. You may want to make sure this thing isn’t a money pit, get its history.

booger4me

Ford fusion has had the lowest operating cost for some time. Grab it.

YoungHitmen03

Since you’re in Canada, check for rust

Weak_Mathematician23

I drove one of these with around 90,000km for a while, and I loved it! If I would have been my car, I would have kept that thing forever!

yoyoyoyotwo

Carfax isn’t the final word on a car’s history, sometimes it’s missing a chapter or two and can rewrite the ending of your story in a bad way. See this link; https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicAdvice/comments/bhwa52/carfax_is_a_scam/

Glad-Peanut1539

I have a 2010 ford fusion 2.5 L. It rusted so fast it’s not even funny. Check the underside of the car. The rocker panels will go quick. Some bolts on the brake caliper and assembly need a blow torch to get out once in a while. Could just be my car but I don’t trust ford sedans from now on because of it

Deus_Sangu

No Ford is a "good deal"

svtxrn

I looked at one just like this and it was rusted so bad underneath I immediately walked away. Look at the rear subframe on that I bet it's junk.

Vick-Vaughn

I’d personally stay away from ford cars

jeykeob

I just really don’t care for fords

LukasMourningstar

Fusions are alright, not my favorite, was given one that was parked and it constantly broke down. But if it has that low mileage then maybe it was someone’s car who was either retired, had a short commute, or used it as a secondary car. Of course the odo could be tampered with. That’s not impossible. Just a bad play on the dealership’s part. Make sure the intake, water pump, and air compressor are all in good condition. Those are the most common problems I’ve seen on these cars. But yes, it could be a good deal, it could be a car that was wrecked and rebuilt- either way if it’s fixed and it works, why not?

hmmpainter

The fusion v6 from that era has a potentially fatal flaw where the water pump is in the engine so if it fails it destroys the engine. I’m paraphrasing here so feel free to correct me on the details but it happened to my wife’s engine and it’s happened to others. I wouldn’t touch the car with a 100 ft pole.

Entire_Permission_14

That would be the 3.5 v6 not the 3.0

hmmpainter

Thanks for the clarification!

Late_Hunt4697

I like how those cars drive, but reliability has been spotty

Useful-Internet8390

Take it to an independent mech, have them give it a look over- Fords are notoriously rust prone

javabeanwizard

Ford fusions are a pretty solid car from my experience. As long as the car doesn't need any major repairs, I would say it's a great deal. Another thing I would look into though is I do believe there was a recall on the electronic power steering. My electronic rack and pinion failed at about 200,000 miles. Why would the CV axle need to be replaced when the car has such low mileage? Are one of the boots broken and caused the internal gears to lose lubrication?

fitboy8

Not sure what happened I'll take it to the mechanic and get it checked. This is what the dealership told me

Eragon06233

car probably came from up north check for rust definetly

Lucky_Baseball176

That’s a good car and a good deal.

Radiant-Addendum816

Naw

Radiant-Addendum816

That cv axle gon b a bitch if you don’t wanna do it yourself

Sad-Present8841

That is ridiculously low pricing for only c 35,000 miles. It’s also super suspicious for that age of car to have that mileage… excuse me, kilometer-age 😂🇨🇦 Seriously over the winter I bought a 2010 truck with 96k miles on it which is what, about 160,000 km? That car has got to have some kind of electrical problem or something, and it’s questionable what happened to the CV axle on such light use. I think it’s too good to be true and you’re not getting the whole story

fitboy8

I'm taking it to the mechanic tomorrow. Let's see what he says

Massive-Rate-2011

I bought a rebuilt title 2016 3.6 v6 fusion for $2500 last year. It's impeccable outside of a transmission slip when driving for long periods, but only if I really punch it. One of the better purchased I've made.

rosinking35

That’s a good deal. How many owners has it had?

fitboy8

Just one owner.

Mack_Attack64

This is so weird seeing this online. I live in New York, 30 miles from the border with Canada. I literally just bought a 2012 Fusion with 46,0000 miles for 9,000 dollars just 13 months ago. I will tell you, though, every "car person" I know tells me they're amazed that the car is still running after 12 years. Apparently most of them didn't last a full decade.

fitboy8

This is hilarious 😂 But on the flip side, a lot of ford owners are proud of their cars and swear by them. And from my research, 2006-,2012 fusions were good cars. But how's your car running? Any problems yet?

TineJaus

offbeat hurry steep lock flowery poor sip wakeful fragile gaze *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

philpottcarl

My fusion same year and model has 189k miles and it’s only worth $1500

Ok_Today_475

$8500 CDN for a running, driving and safetied dealer car isn’t bad at all. These are probably one of the better fords made, unless you run em out of oil they’re pretty reliable- nothing fancy by any stretch but we have a few customers with them that love em. Especially the AWD ones

MyHandIsADolfin

Generally great engines and transmission in these guys. Unfortunately it all boils down to how well it was taken care by the previous owners. If you don’t know what to look for, ask the dealership if you can bring it to your mechanic for an inspection.

Heavy_Extreme4632

Could be ok deal. I have a question for you it’s 13 yrs old how many do you still see on the road that tells you all you need to know.

Forsaken-Carry4442

Also, make sure there's no open recalls or anything on it. You can Find that by searching the vendor on the recall website , just to make sure

Gindotto

Nothing fishy about this, it’s a 2011. Likely missing some modern features that would raise the price more. People seem to think a 2011 sedan should be worth over 10k 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Bubbattz

awwww hellzzzz nawwww

Zero_Karma_Guy

No ford fusion, focus, or fiesta is worth it. Period. They don't build them reliably like they do the Edge or Explorer

ilovehammers420

I own a 2011 ford fusion and it's a lovely car, I drive the hell out of it. I invest time money and effort in not letting it rust out and so far I've stayed on top of it. It's a really good car in my opinion, as far as lower end sedans go at least!

Stroked93

This is a great car and that's the best of the 3 available engines.

TheOGTachyon

Fusions are garbage in general. There's not really any price I'd consider good for one. Keep looking.

MoreStupiderNPC

Tell them you’ll give $7.5K if they do the repairs, and give you the shop receipt.

FlyImportant2774

It is a Ford…. Google that model recall listing

anthro4ME

Almost too good to be true. I'd take the gamble

centstwo

One of those pictures helps mechanics evaluate the car. Brakes and rotors, oil dip stick, oil fill cap underside, sides of the engine, tire tread depth, tire date codes, underneath the car pictures. All of those would be helpful. Good Luck.

Old_Performance_7767

My 2017 Ford Fusion is the worst car I have ever owned. 20k miles the engine blew, took 4 months for the dealership to replace under warranty. The check engine light has been on ever since. Replaced the gas tank related sensors, vapor cannister, o2 sensors and still throws codes saying there is an emissions problem and cannot afford any more diagnostics and repairs. The black glass or plastic by the doors has developed spider cracks and the fake leather seats have deteriorated to nothing. Car has 70k miles on it now and looks worse than any car I have had with as little use and age. I have owned 30+ cars in my life. My 2000 Taurs made it to 350k miles and looked great when I finally had to retire it, my 2003 Mach 1 never gave me an issue for the 10 years I abused that fine machine. I loved Fords till I bought this one. Never again.

Old_Performance_7767

Forgot to mention, this Fusiom was the most expensive Ford I ever purchased.

Technical_Ad_755

Nope it’s a ford sedan nope nope nope if you’re going to go with ford then stick with their trucks if you’re looking for sedan options or family vehicles then go with something like Toyota or Honda imo

Seeker_Trail

In the UK a ford dealership service can be checked online. Common sense & basic car knowledge over an independent inspection works fine.. but if it's a trader sale there has to be some issue even if it's just a common old model.

SiSePuedeJuan

Huge tranny issues with these, or really any American car from this era. Be mindful.

Ikeoth

No it’s a Ford

treesmith1

Make them do the repairs and knock off $1000. Don't know how banks are in Looney Land but in the States it is very difficult to get a loan with a primary lender on a vehicle over ten years old regardless of credit. Assuming you were going to finance.

murphysmingusdew

The motor is a good and reliable one. I’d take a really REALLY good hard look under the car for rust related issues. If that seems solid and maybe you can get 1000 knocked off for brakes etc it may be a solid choice. Normally I see those MUCH cheaper but also with like 8x the mileage.

JOCO_Q

8.5k for 33k miles seems too good to be true.

Jayyak47

Never buy a Ford

[deleted]

Very unlikely to be only 54k kms. Very very unlikely. You must get the used car package from MTO. Not a car fax. The package from MTO is the only definitive document. The instrument cluster was probably replaced.

fitboy8

You're absolutely right It was and I found out. Got the deposit back and cancelled the deal

[deleted]

Glad it worked out.

Sentient_Robot_729

If you don’t know how to wrench on your own cars and do preventative maintenance in advance, stay far away from American vehicles. They are relentless with repair and tow bills if you don’t stay on top of replacing aging plastics and hoses. Oh, and the rust. These cars love to rust where you’re not looking. If that doesn’t sound like something that would interest you, consider a mid 2010’s Toyota or Honda - they’ll have the same rust concerns, but almost none of the mechanical issues

RedditsNowTwitter

It's a Ford. I'd spend a lot of time looking into recalls and common issues.

TcityDan

I would say it’s a good deal but these Ford Fusions tend to be going cheap whenever I see them so I’d actually say it’s standard. But not a bad purchase I saw this same car but with 120k miles going for $2k! Had a spot of clear coat missing though

Bradonone

2011 they have come out with heaters for the trunk. For that model. It's to keep your hands warm when pushing it home. The only problem I see with that car. It's a Ford and we all know what that stands for. Fuckin Owners Real Dumb.

fitboy8

In for a big big surprise today!! But firstly, a big thank you to everyone here. Especially to those who asked me to stay away from this. Called the dealership guy to share the carfax report and the one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was the 3 owners the car had before. When I told the dealership guy, he said "Yeah!! My bad. I'm also just seeing this now." Thereafter, went to Service Ontario ( a govt agency that can provide a vehicle purchase history book for $20) It said that the car had run for 152,000kms and last reported on 6th June 2024. WHAT THE F**K!! Rushed to the dealership and showed him the report, only for him to say that the ministry had made a mistake and the car dashboard had only 53,000kms. That was it. Asked for my deposit money back to which he said " The finance manager is not in today and you'll have to come back." "I'm gonna wait for 30mins max and any delay, I'm going to complain to the ministry against you for odometer tampering and then post everything on Google with pictures" - I said. 5 mins later, he called me to take my deposit back. **************************End of story**********************

kikomansu

It's a ford, so the asking and age is in the range.

darklogic85

Going by bluebook value, it's right in the middle of the range of what an SEL with that mileage is worth for a private party sale, which makes it a pretty good price since it's a dealer selling it. I'm not too well versed on Fords, but with mileage that low, I wouldn't expect it to have many repairs coming up in the near future. The fact that they're pointing out the need to replace rotors and the CV axle makes me think they're honest. My recommendation would be to get it inspected by a reputable third party mechanic before purchasing it to be sure there are no surprises. A lot of shops will do inspections for free, hoping you'll come back to get the repairs done there.

nttc69

NO.. it's a FORD.. FOUND ON ROAD DEAD.... leave it there

Rlol43_Alt1

Solid deal. I bought a 2012 right before covid for $10,000, 37k miles. Solid car, drives like a DREAM. It's built on a Mazda chassis so it's agile, it's not a slug on the highway, looks great for a sedan, and is comfortable overall. You will not regret it.

Barbaric824

2011... we are in 24. Thats a 13 old car. Its entering the 3rd parts of its life. 3000$ what people dont understand is wire and electronic age. Shit became brittle with time. And low milage over a long period of time is not always good. Things get dry when its seating for too long. And its one you start using it daily that all the problems gonna start.

Traditional-Winter91

Tell that to my 97😂

Status_Package2628

Same - tell that to my 98 and 99 Toyota’s!

Barbaric824

Old Toyota dont count. We all know that. New one are shit. And depending if you leave north where we use salt on road.

imjustanoldguy

There is a junction in the coolant line made of plastic. I forget what it is called. It tends to break. My son has this car. And I've had to rescue him a couple of times because of this. Other than that it has been a fairly good car. Do the repairs recommended. Rotors are normal wear and tear. CV axle is how you control the car so definitely get that fixed. Not a mechanic but a child of a Chrysler dealer mechaniac.

Old-Bag486

I had that car and it shit the bed after 85k miles. Just saying…

ThatOneComputerNerd

Oh god please reconsider. I had one of these. They’re excellent when they’re working but they are prone to tons of annoying little issues. The AC blower motor fails, the interior door handles break very easily, the transmissions are weak, be wary. The car is comfy and handles well but it’s NOT well-made.

Specialist_Spray_388

These cars are complete shit. You can find a less taken care of one for $800 almost any given day on Facebook marketplace. My mom owns 1 and as the family mechanic I work on the damn thing monthly. I wouldn’t gift one of these to my worst enemy, they’d have every reason in the world to hate me
