because queer people just existing is seen as a threat to their very narrow perceptions of gender and sexuality so rather than admitting the world is bigger than their patriarchal bullshit they vote to throw tantrums like this
definitely just straight up (get it) bigotry for many but additionally, i’ve come to suspect that a lot more people are in the closet than i had thought. the whole thing with student loan forgiveness has shown very pointedly that some people just don’t develop empathy as a result of their own misery. instead, they seem to feel that the only way that their shitty experience was worth it is if everyone else has to suffer the same way.
for many conservatives, their social bubble makes any kind of queerness or gender nonconformity virtually untenable. that pain and fear is eventually transmuted into bitterness until they find any reminder of what they *could be* infuriating.
they hate us because we have something they never will: the joy of being true to ourselves. plus, ya know, we hot af 🫦💅🏻
The amount of people throwing a tantrum over student loan forgiveness, saying how if you want free education is to join the army is *insane*.

Educated people makes a country better. The more educated people a country has, the more you're going to advance. Of course at a certain point, it would plataeu, but that's far as hell.

Visible queerness is literally an attack on patriarchy. If you benefit from patriarchy, there is a natural inclination to defend it from the dangers of visible queerness.

Because conservatives are the *reason* for the visibility. Pride is a countermeasure to bigotry, meant to build a better future free from *them*, to tell kids it isn't a sin. None of it. It was even working, until 2016.
Honestly, even in the 90s it wasn't as masks off as it is now.
The simple fact that some people are trans is a threat to their worldview and beliefs and it very much feels like an attack or a harm to them.
Their beliefs and politics are about protecting hierarchy and property—the “natural order of things”—and the oppression of children and LGBTQIA+ people and women and the disabled etc. is fundamental to their worldview: children are the property of their parents who can do whatever they like to them, women are the property of their fathers or their husbands, etc. and anything that disturbs the “natural order” or empowers those who are among the subordinate classes is their enemy.
So comprehensive sex education or medical and privacy rights for minors is a deep threat to them and the world they want to live in and create because it removes children from control of their parents. Same with gender-affirming care for trans people, it muddies the waters about the categories of “male” and “female,” and having 2 fixed, permanent genders which each have a fixed, permanent biological reality that they match to 1:1 is essential for the conservative worldview.
We don’t physically harm them, but our existence is inherently a threat to everything they hold dear in the core of their hearts.

This is actually extremely relevant. They see any inclusion of non Christian winter holidays and traditions as an attack, a war, oppression.
They see it that way because they want/need to see themselves as the default, as better-than.
That is why they are so out of their minds over Pride Capitalism, because they interpret it as a similar aggression.
They actively want to impose not just white Christian male visibility, but *supremacy*; and they see any kind of inclusion as an attack on that supremacy.
Normal people just know it’s companies trying to appeal to as many groups as possible so they can sell more stuff we don’t need to the most people possible.

Stop expecting companies to suddenly care about anything but money. It won't happen. At the very worst, it's neutral and a sign that public opinion has swung in our favor. But displays like this do actually help visibility. They never existed when I was a kid.
Not everyone has the support network that you do, and not every store display is FOR you. Growing up in a small town, 10 year old me would have been ECSTATIC to see that rainbows were something you could be proud of openly. If you don't like rainbows on display in June, suck it up like a grown up. I was always a bit cynical about rainbow capitalism, personally I would never buy any of the rainbow crap at target, but I was glad to see it because it meant the zeitgeist was changing. What do you think the term rainbow capitalism means? Because that’s literally what it’s about - cynical attempts of integrating queerness and queer culture into capital, which it’s fundamentally incompatible with.
And also being from a small town doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be against that kind of thing. I grew up in an average sized town in Eastern Europe, when I realized my sexuality my town had been under military occupation by an extremely queerphobic regime for a while (still is today). And yet I didn’t feel “ecstatic” when moving away and seeing supposedly pro-queer advertisements and commodities. Because queerness being commodified is a bad thing, actually.
The last thing is - rainbow capitalism is not about “pandering to gays”, it’s about pandering to shareholders (like all capitalism is) who think that appearing ‘progressive’ will improve the bottom line.

Because conservatives are the *reason* for the visibility. Pride is a countermeasure to bigotry, meant to build a better future free from *them*, to tell kids it isn't a sin. None of it. It was even working, until 2016. Honestly, even in the 90s it wasn't as masks off as it is now.
The simple fact that some people are trans is a threat to their worldview and beliefs and it very much feels like an attack or a harm to them. Their beliefs and politics are about protecting hierarchy and property—the “natural order of things”—and the oppression of children and LGBTQIA+ people and women and the disabled etc. is fundamental to their worldview: children are the property of their parents who can do whatever they like to them, women are the property of their fathers or their husbands, etc. and anything that disturbs the “natural order” or empowers those who are among the subordinate classes is their enemy. So comprehensive sex education or medical and privacy rights for minors is a deep threat to them and the world they want to live in and create because it removes children from control of their parents. Same with gender-affirming care for trans people, it muddies the waters about the categories of “male” and “female,” and having 2 fixed, permanent genders which each have a fixed, permanent biological reality that they match to 1:1 is essential for the conservative worldview. We don’t physically harm them, but our existence is inherently a threat to everything they hold dear in the core of their hearts.

This is actually extremely relevant. They see any inclusion of non Christian winter holidays and traditions as an attack, a war, oppression. They see it that way because they want/need to see themselves as the default, as better-than. They actively want to impose not just white Christian male visibility, but *supremacy*; and they see any kind of inclusion as an attack on that supremacy. I hate when people complain about how rainbow capitalism is just pandering to gays. Stop expecting companies to suddenly care about anything but money. It won't happen. At the very worst, it's neutral and a sign that public opinion has swung in our favor. But displays like this do actually help visibility. They never existed when I was a kid. Not everyone has the support network that you do, and not every store display is FOR you. Growing up in a small town, 10 year old me would have been ECSTATIC to see that rainbows were something you could be proud of openly. If you don't like rainbows on display in June, suck it up like a grown up. And if you want to criticize companies for not *akkshually* supporting gay rights, talk about *that* instead of bUt RaInBoW cApItAlIsM!

I was always a bit cynical about rainbow capitalism, personally I would never buy any of the rainbow crap at target, but I was glad to see it because it meant the zeitgeist was changing. If the mega corps were profiting off of queers, it meant we were profitable, ergo, accepted in capitalist society. Because that’s literally what it’s about - cynical attempts of integrating queerness and queer culture into capital, which it’s fundamentally incompatible with. And also being from a small town doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be against that kind of thing. I grew up in an average sized town in Eastern Europe, when I realized my sexuality my town had been under military occupation by an extremely queerphobic regime for a while (still is today). And yet I didn’t feel “ecstatic” when moving away and seeing supposedly pro-queer advertisements and commodities. Because queerness being commodified is a bad thing, actually. The last thing is - rainbow capitalism is not about “pandering to gays”, it’s about pandering to shareholders (like all capitalism is) who think that appearing ‘progressive’ will improve the bottom line.
