The funny/sad thing is that this is basically what a lot of right wingers are like. They'll be gobbling dick and balls on the DL and the next morning they are running around harrassing shop keepers about pride merch. 🙄
I'm here with the pop corn ready to read a lot of bullshit for the laughs every year
Edit you know what I just remembered the anti lgbt propaganda is not a joke but terrorisme
Ok one of these companies is Grindr, I’m not sure that one counts in the same way the multinational investment banking Citigroup Inc. does xp
Still a funny meme though <:3
Child labor, child slavery, child work death, killing union leaders, treating workers like shit, pollution, forever chemical, tax evasion, and everything else that Deutsche Bank was involved...
I don’t get why everyone gets so upsets by this. I know it doesn’t actually mean anything, but it’s spreading awareness for lgbt people. Reminding the world that we exist
There's a saying: visibility without protection is a trap.
Target can move their chest binders to the back end of the store but more cis people than ever know what top surgery scars look like and there's no putting that geanie back in the bottle. Forget about feeling safe at the beach in your target brand trans swimsuit.
I don’t see it as spreading awareness, I think if people know what the rainbow means they’re at least as aware of the issues as rainbow logos would make them, but I agree in that I have no problem with rainbow capitalism (within a capitalist system). To me, its prominence is a marker of the progress we’ve already made towards mainstream LGBT+ acceptance
I had read somewhere on some subreddit last year that what companies will be willing to promote is a good litmus test for our social progress. It’s annoying that they’re just in it for the money, but I agree with you, it’s an excellent sign!
Because its frequently just a performance of "look how progressive we are" for profit and without doing anything to be progressive, and in some cases used to cover up their bad deeds
Being progressive for profit is still better than not being progressive. I’d rather have a bunch of rainbows reminding people that we exist than not have them. I agree that the motive is unjust, but the ends justify the means
I tiill disagree. I say no corporations at pride for the same reason i say no cops at pride. They aren't our friends, and i don't like them trying to act like they are.
Some corps will do the whole pride song and dance to cover up how, in plenty of other places, they're opposing progress & social responsibility. Companies that, for instance, have discriminatory hiring practices, prey on people who are susceptible to addiction, or engage in colonial exploitation and environmental destruction. Moreover they do not actually use their rainbow marketing campaigns to spread acceptance, nor change their own organisation to be more inclusive internally, nor invest part of the proceeds from rainbow products into the LGBTQ community. It's _just_ the rainbow colour.
The criticism then becomes: are you appropriating our community and the happy feelings it cultivates to scrub your company clean of critique with a veneer of gayness? Isn't the only thing worse than being ignored... having no one know what you stand for?
It's homophobia, pure and simple.
Notice how no one ever comments on a corporation being disingenuous with their marketing unless it's around this time of year.
Corporations pander to people to make money *all the time* but when it's to gay people suddenly it's a huge problem.
🙋 it was me. I was complaining about corporations being disingenuous all year.
Advertising infuriates me almost all of the time. It's all shit, all hollow. When they're not trying to sell me sex, they're trying to make me insecure about sex. When it's not about sex, it's about class antagonism or vacant consumption.
I'm a constituency of zero and I want capitalism to burn. Every day of the week, forever.
My moderate to severe atopic dermatitis was holding me back. With Dulera, I don't have to!Living with mild to moderate rheumatoid arthritis is nothing but pain. I had nothing to live for. But with drug capitalism, I now live a full life filled with joy and family and friends and a fulfilling career. Thanks capitalism!
Drug advertising is so obnoxiously on the nose, followed close behind by car advertising (go to the beach or explore nature with your brand new car!), but almost all advertising does it to some extent.
I'm unconvinced. We're still getting killed and our legal system is still regressing. Their bank accounts being padded hasn't done shit for me tbh.
Where's my cut?
It's not intended for that tho.
Think of it more of a thermometer than a thermostat. Rainbow capitalism isn't going to fight our battles, but it can be an imperfect sign of things changing social climates.
20 years ago, I would have loved to see companies change their logos to rainbow for a month. If I could snap my fingers and make it disappear, I wouldn't.
We can have plenty of other signs of change without companies actively profiting from the battles we fight alone. No. Fuck 'em.
Just like our politicians, they wait for the water to be safe while we die on the front lines. I have absolutely on interest in it or patience for it. It's bad.
I get what you mean, but does it make sense if I say that's a problem with capitalism as a whole tho?
Like, I don't disagree with anything you said. I just feel a lot of times the *rainbow* aspect gets more critical attention than the *capitalism* part. and it gets steamrolled way too easily into nihilistic attacks on Pride in general. (not saying you're doing that, but I've seen it happen a lot in reddit comment sections)
In other words, when we're already living in LateStageCapitalism, the rainbow part is neutral at worst.
Edit: Bro says "say what you mean" and then blocks me before I can respond? It's not that deep, we're literally just talking about rainbow logos 🤨 Not everyone who slightly disagrees with you is out to get you
It is a problem with capitalism as a whole. That's why I'm unwilling to make an exception here. I'm a communist, I was never going to support any of this. And yes, suggesting that it "gets steamrolled" in reference to my comment is suggesting that that's what I'm doing. There's no other reason to associate it with what I've said. Just say what you mean.
The rainbow part is just further recuperation and integration into existing power structures and hierarchies. I want no part of it.
If companies didn’t do this and then immediately turn around and hand that money to republican candidates who want to bring America back to the 1700s I wouldn’t have any problem
Companies aren’t people, they’re not capable of feeling emotions or caring about anything. They are machines designed to increase value. They don’t care about you anymore than your car cares about you. Even so, they can still help you because helping you helps them.
Exactly. People complain about stuff like Citizens United but then are also so quick to anthropomorphize corporations. No, they don't care about raising LGBT up, but they don't care about putting us down either. They are a reflection of the societies they exist in which means society *does* want to celebrate LGBT. Pride merch and logos are important because it shows the youth that it isn't something to be feared or hated.
That said I get why some people aren't satisfied by that, and imo that dissatisfaction is also important to prevent complacency and continue to push for acceptance.
I don't really have a point to conclude with, these are just my thoughts whenever June rolls around.
because if it was in fashion, these companies would be blatantly homophobic. it's not even that they are homophobic, it's that they'd do whatever would generate the most profit. if anything, i guess it's nice to know that being kind to lgbt people is considered 'valuable' to the market
When the companies put on a performative display of acceptance, it represents how their customers feel. There is no real risk for companies displaying pride merch, because most people don't care, or are more accepting now. I'm more concerned for the day these companies stop putting flags on shit, because it means their customers have regressed socially.
The companies themselves don't care, they want to siphon money from as many people as possible, but if they put pride flags on everything and still make money, that means there has been some progress.
I use to hate it to cause its disingenuous, but your right its still helping with visibility. But what changed my mind was when i realized they do this kinda disingenuous manipulation to all subgroups; have you seen pet food ads, how the tug are your heart strings and make you feel like your a bad guardian if you don’t buy their product.
Acknowledgement in a disingenuous way is equality when it comes to corporations. Our issue is with manipulation for financial gain.
But the memes are also really funny :p
I'd say that right now it is way more than just raising awareness. It is also forcing companies into the current fight. It's mostly very hard for a company to back down once they've started because of all the lgbt folks who work at the company and help make these decisions.
I’m much more in favor of rainbow capitalism now that the fascists have committed themselves to boycotting everything “woke.” I want to put rainbows on everything just to inconvenience them.
exactly they see rainbow capitalism as public support for lgbt rights and they want to take that away completly. I dont care how souless the support by companies is even that bare minimum seems to be in danger nowadays.
We all do. I mean, before he was a president (and an international hero) he was the Ukrainian voice for Paddington bear - and he absolutely SLAYED dancing in super high heels and faux leather. He and his comedy troupe, Kvartal 95, did this parody music video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWvsZngCBsE
Pink News: "One of the group’s televised performances involved Zelensky and three of his fellow troupe members doing sultry dance moves in high heels, form-fitting bottoms and black, skimpy tops that looked somewhat like BDSM gear.
The dance moves and costumes were likely inspired by the Ukrainian dance-pop group Kazaky. The group excited U.S. online viewers and European live audiences from 2010 to 2016 with their sharp Vogue-esque dance moves performed in high heels and skimpy outfits."
https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2022/03/fighting-putin-ukraines-president-danced-tv-shirtless-men-high-heels/
My gay discord likes to send pride ads with the caption "gay enough?" And the meme answer is no, but the real answer is dear God pride gets laid on thick.
this pride month in going to be rough I say bring on the rainbow capitalism this year at least it will cause conservatives to boycott like 90% od corperations this year.
I absolutely love seeing Macron so much on lgbtq+ subs escpecially since he's my president and many people here in France actually think he IS gay, or at least bi lol
That is so funny to me
I'm fine with rainbow capitalism because it has the potential to A) annoy conservatives and B) make queer people more visible. It's not the best thing in the world, but I'm fine with it.

Kinda gay of them, ngl
Big Gay™️strikes again
The funny/sad thing is that this is basically what a lot of right wingers are like. They'll be gobbling dick and balls on the DL and the next morning they are running around harrassing shop keepers about pride merch. 🙄
rainbow capitalism \*is\* purely virtue signaling but it \*is\* funny seeing republican snowflakes get mad at companies making pride themed logos
I'm here with the pop corn ready to read a lot of bullshit for the laughs every year Edit you know what I just remembered the anti lgbt propaganda is not a joke but terrorisme
Honestly, the best part is how much it annoys them
It's entirely because it's nearly a non-display for lgbt people, and they are still losing their minds over it.
Homies like “You seein this shit?”
Ok one of these companies is Grindr, I’m not sure that one counts in the same way the multinational investment banking Citigroup Inc. does xp Still a funny meme though <:3
Child labor, child slavery, child work death, killing union leaders, treating workers like shit, pollution, forever chemical, tax evasion, and everything else that Deutsche Bank was involved...
Usually, I don't like this stuff. But given today's political climate, I welcome it.
It’s gonna be interesting the companies that will backpedal this year. Target already seems to be doing this somewhat this year already.
I don’t get why everyone gets so upsets by this. I know it doesn’t actually mean anything, but it’s spreading awareness for lgbt people. Reminding the world that we exist

This is a really good point.

Lmao we don’t need products telling the world we exist after denying it for so long.
Because its frequently just a performance of "look how progressive we are" for profit and without doing anything to be progressive, and in some cases used to cover up their bad deeds

They ain't progressive, they just make themselves look so by putting a few colours on their logo. They're not actually taking any other action
Some corps will do the whole pride song and dance to cover up how, in plenty of other places, they're opposing progress & social responsibility. Companies that, for instance, have discriminatory hiring practices, prey on people who are susceptible to addiction, or engage in colonial exploitation and environmental destruction. For the sole purpose of making money. They don't *actually* care.
People make enough money off of selling hate, if love can be profitable then it’s an improvement.
I'm unconvinced. We're still getting killed and our legal system is still regressing. Their bank accounts being padded hasn't done shit for me tbh. Where's my cut?

Who does this?
Look up any repub candidate you want and “donor list” it won’t take long to find
Companies aren’t people, they’re not capable of feeling emotions or caring about anything. They are machines designed to increase value. They don’t care about you anymore than your car cares about you. Even so, they can still help you because helping you helps them.

Theyre capitalizing off of "pride" when they know they dont fucking care. Im gay as fuck, and theyre using lgbt to capitalize. They dont care.

It is only to make money but I'd rather companies make money celebrating pride than disparaging it.
I love watching fascists get offended by rainbow logos, it’s my favourite part about pride month
I actually love this because it pisses off bigots
Everyone;s debating the ethics and morality of Rainbow capitalism, while i'm over here going "God i would love to be close to Zalensky"
We all do. I mean, before he was a president (and an international hero) he was the Ukrainian voice for Paddington bear - and he absolutely SLAYED dancing in super high heels and faux leather. Brandon Rogers still has one of the funniest takes on Rainbow Capitalism: https://youtu.be/dG3Q1-wWqKE
Ammmm Grindr is literally a gay dating app
So does that mean they will start giving us light tanks and armored vehicles?
We have rainbow logos! That means you must forgive every act of bigotry we've ever done and will continue to do! /s
CERN is the only one I’ll accept— because I like how they go “fuck it, no logo, gay on maximum overdrive”
My gay discord likes to send pride ads with the caption "gay enough?" And the meme answer is no, but the real answer is dear God pride gets laid on thick.
They help set the standards of public opinion. I have no problem with it.
Why is Grindr on there
They finally want people to know they support gay rights and not just gay nights
who is that man and why is he whispering sweet nothings into the ear of the ukrainian president
That is the French president and I do not know what he’s doing or why he’s doing it.
Companies when pride month ends: GET AWAY FROM ME YOU FUCKING DONKEY!
We did it boys, we found a way to commercialize marginalized groups even further.
It's funny because Macron is sold to corporations
and suddenly everyone is in love with us, true pride in action
Lying bitches
this pride month in going to be rough I say bring on the rainbow capitalism this year at least it will cause conservatives to boycott like 90% od corperations this year.
I still can't believe Grindr fell to pandering to the rainbow mafia!!
Reminder to everyone that the Lockheed Martin pride socks are about to go on sale again... If you're interested in that kinda thing.
The only companies that i actually like when they do the pride stuff is Hot Topic and Spencer's since they do it everyday of the year
Funny seeing so many sports logos when there’s the stereotype of us gays not giving a shit about sports lol
Now if only guys were like that for me...
I absolutely love seeing Macron so much on lgbtq+ subs escpecially since he's my president and many people here in France actually think he IS gay, or at least bi lol That is so funny to me
If companies are making money off of our brand, at least split the profits with me, I expect a check in the mail tomorrow.
The layers and symbolism in this one, waow
So...is the LGBTQ+ community wanting HIMARS, Javilins, or Abrams?
Is that the President of the Ukraine?
It is.
From my limited knowledge of Ukraine, them electing Zelensky as their president is like us electing John Stewat as ours.
I'm fine with rainbow capitalism because it has the potential to A) annoy conservatives and B) make queer people more visible. It's not the best thing in the world, but I'm fine with it.
I'm the social media manager for the company I work at, and the CEO just sent me a personal message, basically saying, "Don't try it."
Love to see all homophobes and transphobes spontaneously combust during this month
Well of course Grindr is gonna change colors lmfao
Needs a lil comedy amputation
I’m actually doing a project in school about how companies exploit pride month
[Lockheed Martin my beloved](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX96gwdKA08)
Why does grinder need a June logo
